Google, heard of it?

If you are like me, you rely on Google for pretty much everything, from research, to product reviews, to solutions to problems. Google has billions of users, actively using their search engine every day to find stuff.

Introducing Search Engine Optimization...

Our goal with our website, in particular in the first 6-12 months with it is to get lots of rankings in Google (and other search engines) and to do so for FREE.

This is accomplished through what is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO), which is something that you are going to become very knowledgeable with in a short period of time. You are going to learn how you can show up in Google, get traffic, and generate a lot of revenue as a result.

I have created a video walking you through the fundamentals of a successful SEO ready website and I also show you how to set-up your All in One SEO plugin, which is going to be the framework for getting your website prepared for SEO.

SEO is NOT Rocket Science.

People tend to overthink SEO and think there is MORE to it than there actually is. Part of the problem is that there is so much misinformation online about SEO.

I can tell you, first hand, it is not rocket science. You don't need backlinks, you don't need to know some random secret, you don't need PBN's (if you don't know what that is, don't worry) and you don't need to be an expert author.

There are a few basic components to SEO that are going to be our focus as we move you through the training. I am going to give you a quick overview of these, not to add to complexity or overwhelm you, but rather add simplicity.

  • Initial Website SEO Set-Up (which we will be covering today)
  • Keyword Selection
  • Content Length
  • Content Structure
  • Engagement
  • Social Elements
  • Time (Authority)

Frankly, wipe clean your SEO knowledge. You are going to be learning how to rank not just now, but for years to come as you move through the Bootcamp training. It is in my best interest to see you succeed with your SEO and I want you to see results!

The Incredible, Long Term Opportunity With SEO.

SEO is a long term traffic opportunity that is not going anywhere. As more people come online and more people spend time online, they are searching for things at a higher rate than ever.

The average person performs over 130 searches per month in Google, and Google is currently getting over 3.5 BILLION searches per day. And that is just Google.

That is traffic that YOU can leverage. With 3.75 BILLION people active online, it is going to be your job to intercept people through "search terms" (keywords) that they enter in Google, build trust through helping them, then make a recommendation of products and services.

In the case of your Affiliate Bootcamp website, Wealthy Affiliate will be one of the websites that you can recommend and earn a great deal of income with.

People simply are not going to stop searching, in fact, as people become more and more connect with MORE devices, the number of daily searches only goes up. This creates an incredible and very much growing opportunity for you as an affiliate marketer.

Task 1: Set Up Your Website Up For SEO

Task 1: Set-up All in One SEO on your site

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a very important aspect of any website's success.

In this task we are going to be setting up a plugin that makes our website code (the stuff behind the scenes of our website) friendly for search engines like Google so they can index and rank our sites properly. This is going to be very powerful for your website content getting ranked in search engines going forward, so DO NOT skip this task.

Since you activated the All in One SEO within the last lesson, you should see the "All in One SEO" item with your main menu now in your Wordpress back office. If you mouse over that menu icon, a sub menu will pop out (see below).

Simply click the "General Settings" link. This is where you will be going to set-up your SEO settings for your website.

The main section you are going to be updating here is the Home Page Settings section. There are two sections that you will be updating there:

  • Home Title - This is the title of your website that will show up when you get ranked in Google and other search engines. This won't actually show up on your site.

You want this to reflect the actual title of your website that you created with your site, but also add something to make it a bit more captivating.

Ideal Length: 40-60 characters, keep under 60
  • Home Description - This is a description of what your website is about and how it will benefit people. Don't overthink this part, you just want to be descriptive as to what your site is.

    Ideal Length: Under 160 characters

Although there are a TON of other settings, you are not going to need to update any of these at the moment, not for SEO purposes.

When you are done updating your Home Page Settings, scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click the "Save Changes" button.

Upon doing this, you are done. Your website is set-up and SEO READY! :)

A few important points things to take note of here about All in One SEO:

  • You DO NOT need to "Upgrade to Pro". The free version is more than adequate for your needs.
  • You won't see these changes to your actual site. The work is done behind the scenes within your websites HTML code. It is making your code friendly for search engines.

Awesome, your website is all set-up for SEO now! As you build out your new pages/posts, they will automatically be optimized for Google and other search engines. If you have any questions about the set-up process, leave them in the comments below and we will give you a hand.

Kyle, I am taking the Affiliate Bootcamp because I want to start marketing the Wealthy Affiliate along with a few other MMO products. Looking at the list of possible target audiences many people fit into more than one of those categories.

Are you saying to target one of those many targets listed? For example a middle class person might have a mortgage, want to quit his job and learn to make money online as well as be a baby boomer about to retire, have real estate investments as well as medical bills.

And you listed many other targetable categories within the MMO niche. At this point I am just seeking guidance, I am building a website I am calling Laptop Jobsite mainly because that is also the name of my domain.

hey Neil. I don't know if you'll get an answer from Kyle, but I would recommend that you try to be as specific to a niche as possible, but if it overlaps, then it's okay too! I guess it also depends on the products that you are reviewing, since mostly, the MMO niche would require you to do a lot of reviews.

This is my opinion and my thoughts, so I thought I would share.

Why wouldn't something that appeals to retired baby boomers with lots of medical bills also appeal to a 40 year old office worker with a mortgage who fears downsizing and wants to quit his job? All of those are sub niches to the MMO niche. By the same token why wouldn't a recent college graduate who can't get a job in his chosen field not be just as interested. My nephew graduated a year ago in horticulture and can't find a horticultural job.

It is unfair of you go offer students one course package, then when they believe their are making some kind of progress, you encourage them to upgrade, then they find themselves have to start from scratch once again. I have only been with you a few days, and already I am having regrets.

You shouldn't have to start all over again, Sarah. What makes you think that you do?

I think Sarah is half way right

Reach out to Kyle if you have any issues. I didn't have to start again when I upgraded and neither should you. Maybe there is a system glitch.

Hie SarahKerr1, yes everyone is right you need to work through the training step by step. Try not to jump from one thing to another as it may confuse and overwhelm you. WA offers every thing you need but have clear goals that you set re: what you want to achieve. You can send a private message to Kyle if you have an issue - don't give up and work at a steady pace but consistently. All the best.

Hi, I am wondering if really should post a Wealthy Affiliate review on my website because isnt it completely out of context to post that on a vegan protein powder themed one? And if yes, what can I write about to make my first review? A product ? The problem with that is that it seems very unaccurate because the only other post is my about me post.
I would be very grateful if someone could help me out here! :)

Hi - this Bootcamp training course is for those who want to build a website about making money online and promoting WA.

If you have chosen your own niche subject, then you need to switch to the Online Entrepreneur course.

On the other hand, I have seen websites promoting hiking trails, and then still have a page or post promoting WA without batting an eye. So it can be done if you don't feel it is crossing channels. Or you could actually start another site along side of your current one.

I hope that the Ambassadors agree with me on this
I have been looking at websites on Google possibly with Adsense
(I don't know for sure) but lots of them have ads on the sites that are nothing to do with the nature of the site.
Example if you are on a site for Supplements let's say some of the ads could be fo home and garden. Thats an example. I think if your ad is subtle you can get away with it.
Its an old sales thing you go shopping for 1 thing and come back with something you never intended to buy.
The other way that was suggested to me was to write a blog or Article on how WA trained me to create the website and slip it in somewhere.
Good luck

Hi - as regards Google AdSense, it selects which ads to display, depending on who is visiting the site, and what they have recently been searching for. Each visitor to your site will actually see something different.

So, if I have recently been searching for car insurance, then AdSense will display ads relating to that, regardless of what the website I am visiting is actually about.

I have deleted the Privacy Policy from the main menu and put it in the side bar but it is now appearing in both! I added and deleted it again to / from the top menu but it will not budge. Not desperate I suppose, but if anyone knows how to fix it that would be great.

Best,

Jean

Not a big issue here. You are in full control of these menus. You can add these custom menus to organize your top menu in any way in which you like, as well as create sub-menus (for themes that will support this). You can also use these custom menus to add within your side widgets on your website (within your sidebar).

Here is a tutorial on how to create custom menus: I use custom menus on all of my websites (over-ride that default menu). It allows much more control and organization....both good things!

Feedback please?

Trying to decide between two choices for my website home title:

Success With Des - Personal Affiliate Mentor

and

Success with Des - Affiliate Marketing Mentor

One of them sounds a bit more personal, and the other sounds a bit more concise. What do you all think?

My website is one promoting WA.

At the end of the day you have to be happy with your brand name. It was something I struggled with too. But if you like it that means other like minded individuals will like it too. Stay positive and keep moving forward.
