INTRODUCTION

Hi, everyone...Today I want to briefly go through the Reddit platform and describe to you what it is, why you should consider adding it to your social platforms used for promoting your brand, traffic, leads, and conversions for your online marketing business.

Whether you are doing affiliate marketing, e-commerce, educational courses, or even writing ebooks, Reddit can help you build and grow your business. I am a lurker, and have been studying the platform for a while now...

I have seen some members get blown out of the water when they approach the platform in a spammy way, and on the other hand I have seen what a good job the site can do with getting you attention and traffic, etc.

This will serve as a compendium of what I have learned to now. This will save you literally 3-4 weeks of 2-3 hours a day of learning for yourself the do's and don'ts of the platform, so it is a timesaver I believe...

Let's get started...

WHAT IS REDDIT?

I know we all tend to focus on Google and Facebook mainly, and to a lesser degree, Google +, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc. I want to start off by saying that these are indeed important social platforms to use.

However, I want to introduce you to a lesser known for the average marketer platform called Reddit. It too is an easy way to get a lot of folks visiting your website and building your business. Used properly Reddit will increase your sales and profits.

I can tell you that I have seen a single post generate thousands and thousands of traffic hits and the audience is highly targeted for reasons that we will go into in this tutorial.

It appears to me after study that Reddit has as much potential as Facebook or Twitter and possibly it can work better for you depending on your niche. Quite simply, I think this is a traffic source you can't afford to ignore.

REDDIT - BACKGROUND

Similar to StumbleUpon or Digg, Reddit is an aggregated content site. There you will find salient content that has been voted to the top by other users and thereby selected for its popularity among the community.

More on that voting thing below, in case you are wondering, do not worry...

The platform was founded by two guys named Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian. They were roommates and students at the University of Virginia, which sounds familiar to other such platforms we know of...

Subsequently the company was acquired by a company called Conde Nast Publications in 2006. Thes days it operates as a separate entity but Advance (Conde Nast's parent company) is the largest shareholder, so indirectly they are still involved.

Reading about Reddit's mission statement, it is readily apparent what they have tried to do with the platform. They want to become the 'front page of the internet' and do so by letting members select the sub communities (called Subreddits) that they want to subscribe to.

They then will show members the top voted content for that sub community daily. You can find these at the following URL if you care to go have a look now: www.reddit.com/r/nameofsubreddit.

Generally, any content posted has to get a level of votes before it starts appearing on the home page for particular users who are interested in the subject of the content.Herein lies the power of Reddit...

You will get targeted audiences looking at your content and if that content is engaging, interesting, informative, you will likely start getting up votes and more attention...This can lead to more...

Read on...

SETTING UP AN ACCOUNT

It is easy to set up and about the same as for other social platforms...Provide your name and email, confirm, and you are off and running...Once a member, you will then select the subjects and -categories you are interested in and then from that point Reddit will show you top content from each of those categories daily.

HOW IT WORKS

This top content can be blog posts, other external links, or 'self- posts' that are text posts by members that are designed to stimulate discussion within the community. From there you can view Subreddits to see the latest and most popular links and the discussion for that subject.

Both the subreddits and the front page from the platform you see when signing in will have multiple categories that you can access by clicking on tabs...Some include 'Hot', 'New', 'Rising', 'Controversial', or 'Top',

Many members will check 'New' and 'Rising' often and 'Top' has the receltly top voted recent posts based on popularity.

Of course, you as a member will also be able to upvote and downvote content, and help influence what content gets seen by others and which may not. You can also comment on others' posts and engage in an active discussion.

Every time one of your posts or your comments gets an up or down vote, it will contribute to your overall what they call 'karma' on the site. There are two separate karma values – one is for content you've shared and the other is for comments you've made.

You also have a profile and other members will be able to click on that see your previous posts and rating. Your postive rating will help you build authority over time while if you have a negative rating it can affect the credibility of your content and comments with other members

There are some sub-reddits that have "'minimum karma' requirements before you can post or even comment in some cases. This helps keep things from getting spammy...

For the subreddits there ate moderators, as with forums, and these folks can delete posts, add tags and even can ban members if warranted. Any member can create a new Subreddit and when you do so, you automatically become the moderator. You can add moderators later as needed to manage the page.

So that is it...a down and dirty of how Reddit works...

OK - WHAT IS NEXT?

There is MUCH more you need to know to keep from getting in trouble there...Just as with Wealthy Affiliate, using Reddit you need to be aware of the rules and norms to stay out of trouble...Reddit is MUCH less forgiving than Wealthy Affiliate when it comes to the community...

We'll cover these and more starting on the next page... ===>

Good stuff. I occasionally post on Reddit. I try not to post on there all the time as I don't want to spam the boards. Plus, it is also good to interact with other posts the board before posting.

Yes, lots of interesting subreddits to look at...I too am more of a lurker up to this point...I wanted to really understand how it all works before just jumping in...Those that use it for spamming do not last long hehe...Definitely, the platform requires a strategy when proceeding...I agree with you, it is better to start interaction with a subreddit group prior to posting your own stuff...Thanks for adding to the conversation....Cheers! Hi Dave really good to see a tutorial with some real actionable information in it, really appreciate your take on things, Not currently using Reddit but feel that I am well placed to make some positive gains after viewing and implementing some of the tips and advice in this training thank you.One of the things that were putting me off to a degree was the need to be aware of offending other members. Like all things, it is all about being aware and adapting accordingly.Thank you much, appreciated.

Thanks, Alexander...This platform is one of the most interesting to me so far, in that there is a lot of very informed people (and some not so much hehe) that like to add their thoughts into a conversation...These people that take the time to do so are also more likely to take action with your offers if you can entice them over to your website! Cheers! Dave : )

Glad it may be of use to you...The thing I like is there is a huge audience and they can be very targeted users that you interact with...As you build your reputation and 'karma' your voice will command attention, and these folks that listen are already primed to take action...Cheers! Dave : )
