Create your fan club.

Building an optin list is one thing; turning your list into a fan club is an entirely different problem. When your list sees you as someone they know, like and trust, they will look forward to your messages and they will want to do business with you.

How do you build that kind of relationship? Your list must see you as an attractive, helpful human being.

Think about how you want to be perceived. How can you build your attractive persona? My wife always says, “I don’t want to see a movie where I don’t care about at least one of the actors.” If she cannot care about someone in the movie, she caqnnot relate.

You are not an actor. Don’t try to be someone you are not. On the other hand, everyone is complex. You can be a leader, a reluctant hero, an adventurer or a challenger. Mr Trump chooses to be a strong man leading us vs them. Obama is the reluctant hero. He is leader of the free world, but doesn’t want a fuss made over his accomplishments. Hillary Clinton has been an evangalist for children and families all her life. I am a conservationist who is an advocate for diversity and resilience. I’m a bit of an adventurer because I am always looking for new opportunities to help people live their dreams.

Tell a story.

The best way to connect with people is to tell them a little story that illustrates your point. You see those all the time in sales copy. "I was living in a car, until I found this secret” “I had a terrible boss, so I built my own business and was able to tell the boss goodbye." “We got to break up the 1% and give the rest of us a decent chance.” “I’ve got a secret I want to share…” “Did you hear about this amazing discovery?" “My business really took off when I started working with Bill."

Your autoresponder is your key to creating a fan from your new opt-in. I use a simple five letter series. One letter per day. If it is italicized replace the italicized words with appropriate wording.

  1. Your first letter is your thank you letter for joining my opt-in list. It sets the stage for what is to come.
  2. The second letter should start with high drama and tell the story of your success. If you haven’t achieved success yet tell the story of your mentor’s success.
  3. Your 3rd letter describes the discover that set you on your path of success. Usually this is not an epiphany. It is usually a gradual path of discovery and learning.
  4. Your 4th email tells why joining your team is a good idea.
  5. Your 5th letter is your call to action.
