When you have a problem with your website, it's often caused by the active theme or one or more of the plugins.

Sometimes it's because 2 plugins don't play nicely together, especially when you have more than one plugin doing the same job. A typical example of this is having Google XML Site Maps plus All In One SEO or Yoast SEO all trying to generate a site map. They trip over each other's feet.

So my usual advice has been to switch to the latest standard theme issued by WordPress and deactivate all the plugins. Then activate them one at a time, testing as you go to find the source of the problem.

While that's still sound advice, it's not always practical when your website is live and you may have visitors on it. So wouldn't it be nice to be able to deactivate all of those plugins for troubleshooting purposes without affecting your site visitors?

There are some plugins you don't want to be without, even for an instant as they need to be active all the time for them to work. I don't want to turn off my pretty links when someone could be trying to access one of my affiliate programs.

Hi Marion,

Just a quick update. I have used this Health Check plugin and so far couldn't find any real malfunction of the plugins I am using.

The problem I had with not being able to leave a comment, white screen etc. It did still happen, using Vivaldi Browser, so I used your training and the Health Check plugin to check what is going on.

My results are, that the Advanced Tiny MCE plugin might be the culprit. I was sending test comments after enabling each plugin, starting from the top and they all went through.

However, I got the white screen when enabling advanced tiny mce plugin but, when I tried to resubmit, I got a similar message as you did, sending me the image of your try.

Nevertheless, it did go through after pushing the button a couple of times. lol

My conclusion, now, is to keep this plugin deactivated when not writing or editing a post.
Btw, what are your thoughts of keeping certain plugins, when not in immediate need of use, deactivated?

I am doing it with WP-Clone, WP-Optimize, EWWW which I only activate when I need them to do their job.

Thanks, again for all the help and your step by step training, so helpful.

Sylvia

P.S. I don't like the Twenty Nineteen theme my site looked awful, to say the least.

Ditch TinyMCE Advanced and install WP Edit, Sylvia. It's working with the latest versions of WordPress. What a pity you had to go through the alphabet before getting to "T" to find the culprit.

I keep some plugins deactivated when not using them, such as Post Type Switcher. But the plugins I use frequently stay activated.

What a boring internet it would be if everyone used the same theme for their websites. My theme of choice is Weaver Xtreme. It's super versatile.

Thanks a lot, Marion. I had never heard of the WP Clone, but I figured that out, too, and easily installed it.

My interface has no "manage active plugins" in the drop down. What is there is the word Plugins and then a drop-down that offers the choice to Disable Health Check & Troubleshooting or to Enable each of my plugins one by one from the list there. The navigation is different, but the resulting action is the same as in your demonstration.

Best regards,
Joe

I leave it activated all the time, Yang, but it's entirely up to you.
