There are a couple of good reasons to add captions to your images on your site. The first is that it helps with the visual appeal. Secondly, it is a great way to help the reader connect with your content. Sometimes Wordpress can be a little finicky with adding captions, so I will also show you some workarounds here that I use.
The Basics:
The above image here shows the box puled up to the right in Wordpress when you are adding in an image. As you can see there is a place for the title of the image, a place to write the caption, & down on the bottom are the display settings.
This is the first spot that you can add a caption to the image. Sometimes though, adding the caption here can cause weird issues with inserting the image into the proper place on your site. If this is happening I just add the image here without the caption and then go back into the image to add it. If you click on the image in the content area you will get two boxes that pop up on the image (see below image). The first is to go into the image options and the second will delete the image.
When you click on the little landscape image there it will take you into the screen to edit the image (see below image).
From here you can edit several different parts of the image as well as add in a caption from here. Even this route can sometimes be finicky and there is one last option that I have found to work for me. Put the image centered above the paragraph that you want to have the image aligned to the right of. Then add the caption by clicking on the little landscape image. Once you have that completed, change the alignment to the right or with just the image highlighted click the align text right button (see image below).
I congratulate you a very well done tutorial. I have only one question. Whenever I insert media into my post or page, I always must only use "none" in the display settings link box or my media does not show up on the page. I don't understand what is going on with this linking aspect.
