If my definition of domain name is half way correct, I would think I can use the IP address in place of the URL. Open your browser and enter 208.109.205.238 as the URL. You don't even need the http://. Just the number will do.

Surprise! You should be at the main WA page.

In keeping with Kyle & Carson's training examples, I used WA as an example. Now enter 208.109.205.238/faq.php and see where you end up. You end up at the same place as if you entered either http://wealthyaffillates.com./faq.php. or 208.109.205.238/faq.php.

So how is it possible to enter a number or name and end up at the same place? DNS (Domain Name Server) is the answer. Every web server or web host requires a DNS server to translate the name into a number.

When you go through the process of getting a domain name, what is the one thing they tell you that you will have to wait 12 to 24 hours for? That's right. Your domain name to propagate. It takes a little time for your domain name to get pushed (transmitted) to the other DNS servers. There are thousands of DNS servers out there. Oh, don't believe the 12 to 24 hour wait thing. In most cases an hour or so will do the trick:))

Yea, you took a whole lot off my shoulders. This so practical. Wish the tutorials were more like this. Am actually looking up name.com and namecheap for my domain purchase after 1&1 had failed. I was looking to see if anyone has a testimonial on them. It's good to know you bought from namecheap. I guess, my concern is met. You get my gold for this, Fred. Thanks.

It is Namecheap that gives you the free whoisgaurd for a year (which is where I purchase mine for that very reason).

Also important not to buy your name from the same company that hosts your site (so I'm told...for technical reasons)
