Target Audiences for Wealthy Affiliate

When you sit down and think about all the people in the world that would like to make more money, you could pretty much include just about everyone.

Every person from every little corner of the population could use extra cash and that is really the target audience. So in essence, your target audience consists of the close to 7 BILLION people that live this world, 3.4 of them have high speed internet and would love to have access to a platform like Wealthy Affiliate.

That is a pretty MASSIVE target audience, so within this tutorial I am going to give you a hand with some more targeted examples of audiences and show you exactly how to break them down.

Pretty big and pretty broad right? That was intended to prove the scale of the market that you can promote to, and within this section we are going to explain smaller more niche target audiences and also let you in on some ways in which you can research and market to these audiences.

When many affiliates begin to work on their keyword and industry research for Wealthy Affiliate research, they typically think of the most obvious marketers that are highly relevant to the services offered at Wealthy Affiliate. The main audiences that come to mind are:

  • Making Money
  • Work From Home
  • Internet Marketing
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • PPC Marketing
  • Email Marketing

These are fine and they are definitely targeted, however marketers typically run into a wall when they attempt to promote WA under these keywords as they are very competitive. They convert, but they are competitive.

Because of this, we recommend also venturing into other very targeted niches. I have included a list of these below:

  • Entrepreneur Programs
  • Website Marketing
  • Local Marketing
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Twitter marketing
  • Facebook Marketing
  • Linked In marketing
  • Email Marketing
  • Google Adwords
  • Google content network
  • BingAds
  • PPC Marketing
  • Clickbank
  • Data Entry
  • Home Business
  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Article Marketing
  • Getting Rich Quick
  • Become a Millionaire
  • Search Engine Marketing
  • Self-Employment
  • Affiliate Programs
  • Affiliate Networks
  • Wordpress Plugins/Theme/Hosting
  • Website Hosting
  • Website Builders
  • Internet Marketing Tools

These are all hot topics and highly related to what is offered within Wealthy Affiliate. Anyone looking for help in any of these areas can easily get help and get training within the Wealthy Affiliate community if you look a little deeper you find that there are even more than the obvious.

These can all be target audiences and I am going to show you how to elaborate on these in a second. However, there are complete demographics of people that should not be forgotten about. Massive groups of people that are looking for opportunities, to create businesses online or to expand their existing businesses online.

  • College Students
  • University Students
  • Retired Individuals
  • Middle Class Populous (large majority of US consumers)
  • Retired Veterans / Disabled Veterans
  • Disabled Individuals (who can work from their computer)
  • New Career seekers
  • Career Development/Advancement seekers
  • Laid Off Employees
  • Unemployment Benefits
  • People with massive hospital/health bills
  • Low Salary Employees
  • High Salary Employees that Want More
  • Minimum Wage Workers / McJobs
  • Passive Income Seekers
  • Residual Income Seekers
  • Baby Boomers About to Retire
  • People Who Vacation Lots (like the freedom)
  • Loans/Cash Advances
  • People with a mortgage
  • People that are forced to foreclose their homes
  • Debt Consolidation
  • People with Undesirable Jobs
  • Office Workers
  • People looking to win the lottery
  • Computer Jobs and remote jobs
  • People interesting in computer programming
  • Residents at business and Internet marketing schools
  • People looking to get a marketing, finance, or business education
  • Someone who wants to quit their job
  • Franchising/Franchisees
  • Ebay Sellers
  • Summer Job Seekers
  • Part-Time Employment
  • People seeking any type of employment!
  • Employment Search Engines (JobSearch, Monster, Careers.com)
  • Criminal Employment (employment for criminals)
  • People seeking post secondary education (can target University and College names)
  • Real Estate Investors
  • Online Surveys Takers
  • Related Forums and discussion rooms
  • TV Shows (Apprentice, Deal or No Deal, etc)
  • Famous Rich People (Donald Trump, Bill Gates, Rich Dad Poor Dad)
  • Hard Copy Books (The Art of the Deal, Buzz marketing, etc)
  • Affiliate Network Keywords (CJ, Clickbank, Linkshare, Shareasale, Kowabunga, etc)

These are some demographic based audiences that you can target. These above ideas alone will give you enough ammunition to promote Wealthy Affiliate for a lifetime!

With what we have already given you, you could easily scale a campaign to make over $1 MILLION per year...in fact, if you put your effort into just one of these target audiences, you could likely make that with just one.

Remember, the average affiliate referral for Wealthy Affiliate is close to $150. Commissions and recurring revenue add up very quickly!

In the next section, we are going to elaborate on a few of these so you can get a better idea of how to research and find keywords within them, and and how to effectively set up campaigns targeting them.

Wow.. I am so amazed at how this business actually teaches you the whole process, right down to the nitty gritty, unlike many others that I have tried & paid anywhere from 2-4x the amount or even more for!... and i can honestly say that I bearly learned anything, causd I would get so frustrated, and stuck and couldn't ever actually get someone to respond to me and if they did, they didn't eved really break it down in a manner in which i could actually understand or comprehend!... I have literally learned most of what i have learned over the yrs. from self searching, reading, studying & learning, thru videos, books, blogs, social media, like YouTube, a lil off of F.B from others who were advertising and self google searchs, ect... but this literally has everything that you actually need all in one place, anywhere else, if you could even find this anywhere else, would cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars upfront along with a whole list of upsells I'm sure!!!...
Yay... FINALLY I HAVE FOUND WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR ALMOST THIS LAST 8-10 YRS. NOW OR SO!!!... 😀😀😀😄🤗😇

Hi, I want my niche to have a two pronged approach. I want to target the people who want to work from home (me) and who don't expect or desire to make millions (me) but want a bit more cash flow to be comfortable (me) and aspire to be financially independent in the long run (me).
I believe I understand these people and the mindset, as it is me!
I also believe this program and place sells itself, it is just the proper introduction that is needed.
What do you think?

Great job Kyle. I almost sent you a message but relaxed after reading this article. I'm inclined towards WORKERS/EMPLOYEES/SALARY EARNERS. Whether they are low or high income earners, happy or unsatisfied with their job, new career sseekers or those who are about to quit their job.

So please advise me; Can I have these categories of workers/salary earners under my niche? or should I focus on one category?
Reply

The short answer is, yes you can. The long answer is, try to focus your niche to a specific group. It will make it easier to become a trusted authority and lower your competition a bit.

Each one above you can target separately. Doing so will allow you to write your content specifically to that group.

i think the main takeaway is that you can't talk to everyone about everything.
so you will be talking to a small group of people about a single topic.
so if you know about make money online programs that may not work then tell others about them and maybe recommend this one - if you feel it is worth it.
or go with something you know about - your work, a hobby you have - if you like gardening repairing cars, cooking anything you can talk to like minded people and share your xperiences and inform them about hte good and bad.
you definitely are not stupid, it may just take longer to grasp the concept - others wil struggle with different parts - so never think of yourself as stupid.
So hopefully Dale you will be able to grasp the concept and carry on with the training and make some money this time.
have fun

I choose as my target audience making extra money to supplement retirement since the regular niche I created is helping people with low income make ends meet and get out of debt and I use the same website, or should I have a separate WA website.
I am thinking of staying with the one I will get double the draw. Interested to know what others think.

I’ve started Boot Camp. Now on Lesson 2. Very new to blogging and building websites. Can you target different audiences with different posts on the same website? For example, if I am promoting Wealthy Affiliates can I use a key word in today’s post directed at retirees and in tomorrows post can I use keywords directed at senior employees planning for retirement?

So what you saying is that I need to include "audience-calling" keywords, to attract my audience to my website?

For instance, if I post an article on 'budget tablets' and my audience are students, then I would have to use keywords like "college graduates", or "entry-level employees", "students from Florida", etc.
Reply
merlynmac Premium
Basically, yes. By doing so you help narrow down the target audience and competition at the same time. Best tablets for college students would be more targeted than best tablets.

Hi, wow that sounds amazing....good luck with that.

AJTrimble1 Premium
For our purposes, Dominique, your target audience and niche can really be thought of as the same. Okay, perhaps not exactly, but at least two sides to the same coin.

I think that is a wonderful mission, by the way. My uncle works in a prison, and he told me most of them really aren't bad guys; they just made some bad decisions and are now stuck. He said that this very issue is actually one of the main reasons people wind up going back to prison; they just have too much trouble finding "legitimate" work because no one will give them a chance. It's quite sad really. If you have the passion and expertise to help them I think that is awesome.

Now, the challenge is not going to be in the niche itself, but more on how to market to them. Remember, part of what makes something a niche is an audience that gathers and hangs out online. For instance, photographers in a photo forum, readers in an online book club, etc.

So, with that in mind, brainstorm keywords you can target and other ways you can put your site in front of that target audience...

In other words, if I have a criminal background and having difficultly finding work, getting interviews, landing the job, etc., where might I look? What kinds of things might I be typing into Google to find help?

Make sense?

Good luck, and definitely keep me posted. I'm interested in seeing what you come up with. :-)

There are so many areas I have never thought about. I know people in just about every area mentioned above.
I am sure anyone can find people in any one of these niches and when you feel stale in one area go for a different niche.

The information and idea creation material here on WA is like finding a gold mine, we just have to get digging to uncover the rich seam of GOLD and then drag it to the surface.

Thanks guys.

So I'm continuously adding KW's to help with ranking on google, etc and also creating the relevant content for each but in essence, it's still within the same niche. Which means every time someone types in any one of those keywords the chances of my website being seen is highly likelier which ultimately brings in more traffic and possible referrals which leads to conversions.

Am I catching on to this correctly? I need to make sure before I move on.

Hi Kyle,

I am researching my first niche which is stay at home mums. I searched 'can I afford to stay at home' in Jaxxy and had good results but when I went into google I got About 234,000,000 results (0.67 seconds).

How could I narrow my search to get under 300 competing sites in google?
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
First of all, that is actually quite a broad search term. "Can I afford to stay at home" could be interpreted a million different ways and apply to a million different people.

Think more about your niche specifically. For instance, the keyword "how can I afford to be a stay at home mom" has good numbers and would make a great article title as well.

The best way to learn your way around Jaaxy is really just to get in there and play with it. Try different word combinations, and make sure you also look at the related results; it is very common to find other keywords you weren't even thinking about at the time. That's the real power of Jaaxy.

As far as the millions of Google results, just ignore it. Rather than go into details again here, I wrote a post about this very thing: Hope this helps :-)

Hi AJ,

Lovely to receive a response from you. Thank you for your article. 10 is a much better number.

Jaxxy is for finding keywords on what to write about for blog articles. Google to see what top 10 competitors have on their website so that I can beat.

The question I have now is when you say think more about your niche specifically. I am not sure what you mean. This is where I get stuck. So can you give me an example please?
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
Sure...

So, based on your bio and your niche, I am assuming that you are a stay at home mom yourself; or, at least you hope to be.

And I also assume that at some point you were searching for this kind of information when you came across Wealthy Affiliate.

So, given that, think about the types of things you typed into Google when you were looking. "how to be a stay at home mom", "how can I work from home", "what types of jobs are available for stay at home moms", whatever. That'll give you a good start.

Next, if I were you, I would go into Jaaxy and just start with the broadest term: stay at home mom. Run it and start making a list of all the different terms that come up with good numbers that also make grammatical sense (i.e. they are something someone would actually say, not just a string of random words; remember, you are looking to use this phrase in an article title.)

Then find one you like and click on it to do another search. You will get another long list. And so on. Just keep up the process until you have a list of, say, 30-50 good keywords to work with. I call this process The Rabbit Hole. Just keep going down one "hole" after another until you have your target list.

Next, you take those keywords, one at a time, and do a Google search on them. That's where the competition-of-ten idea comes in. Read each one of the top 10 articles and see what you might need to do to knock one of them off of their pedestal.

Then get to writing :-)

Sorry, but I didn't really understand the following statement:
"Along these lines, people are always looking for lower paying, unskilled jobs"
Why would anyone look for a lower paying job to begin with?
Secondly - If I want to target people with a desire to make a nice living why would I search for keywords like "Low Wage'?
What link do I miss in the picture?
Reply

Just off the top of my head
Older people who are facing age discrimination in hiring practices or are looking to supplement their social security
Those who don't have many skills or much education.
Students
Those who are looking to supplement their income with a part-time job
Perhaps those with a criminal record.
Reply

Got it. Make sense. However - the question what is the benefit of targeting and spending effort on such low potent population? Thanks so much.
Reply
hagstf Premium
I think that any of those mentioned would welcome the opportunity to improve their financial situation and Kyle gives many other examples as well.

The reason you may want to consider targeting these groups of people with informative content is that is what they are searching for online and where people are searching, that is where you want to be.

Also, retirees, students, people looking to supplement their income = huge potential

I just did a search in Google for "who has the world's best certified online entrepreneur training program. There are only THREE listed that are not universities or colleges out of 89,900,000. Why isn't WA in the top Four non-university or non-college competitors? Would this be a target for marketing WA? I know the numbers are a bit high, but the majority of the listings on Google are college or university-based degree programs. QSR means Quoted Search Results – and that number is the total number of competing websites related to that keyword phrase. The lower the QSR better. Personally I look for keywords that have a QSR of 100 or less with good search volume.

Thanks for this tutorial, because, up until now, I wasn't coming up with anything. I'm heading toward the Middle Class -specifically the middle class woman. She has school aged children, a husband trying to climb the corporate ladder, and at least one older parent who needs some level of care. She has school activities to deal with, some entertainment socials that might improve her husband's job climb. She doesn't want a job outside the home, but perhaps a passive income outlet would suit her time wise. She is out there- I was one years ago.

I am definitely in the minimum wage bracket. I can feel for these people. That's what makes it so hard to get into investing, the get rich quick scenes. You see the small entrance fee and think you can proceed in. You do it, which I did several times, then, when you get in, there is another bigger price you have to pay so you can start, and your money is already gone! You can't go further or you put yourself in debt. And someone with a minimum wage cannot easily get out of that debt! I know! I have been through that!

I like targeting retirees since they have all the time in the world, but would they believe me coming from someone who's probably same age as their grandkids .
Maybe college/university students niche is better . At least I can relate to them, but they don't have much time.
IDK, what u think ?

SondraM Premium
I would try to target a group that you understand.

Most retirees that I know do NOT have all the time in the world in real life.

Many are even busier after they have retired than when they worked.

p.s. When I think back, I had more free time as a college student than I ever had since.
Reply
Kuppinger Premium
I think you need to pick a niche you understand, either because you are living it or because someone close to you is. College kids don't have as many responsibilities, are busy, but may not have the money to invest. Stay at home parents vary the most I think. Some are very busy, others aren't. Some have money, some don't. Most have good computer skills. Retirees vary, some are busy, some aren't, many have the worry they want to continue to live the financial life they did when they were working full time. Don't try to guess that you understand a certain group. Go with the one you feel most comfortable with.

Your reason has to be more than, “they have all the time in the world.” You have to come from a place of genuine concern for their well being, then you will come across real and not for profit. Remember older wiser folks than yourself can smell bullshit miles off. Other than that if you are sincere you will do just fine.

My take is that if you are giving them fantastic information your age will not be an issue. Just make sure that you give them information that will sort out their possible financial issues. Trust me they will thank you for it. As they say, age is just a number.

the only problem with that is if you are taking to retirees, you are not talking to the other two niches - so you dilute the effect.

For one of my keywords- College Students activities I am getting a QSR (Quoted Search Results-The number of competing websites ranked in google for this exact keyword ) of 82 in the Jaaxy keyword tool. However when I type the same keyword in google it shows - About 1,48,00,00,000 results.

How come is this even possible?

Does it mean that Jaaxy isn't giving the correct QSR? This is quite confusing

Niket,
When you type a keyword into Google you are ending up with a
search result of all the websites containing that keyword not the websites ranking for the keyword - try it with quotation marks

Yes it is. According to Kyle, Google doesn't show accurate results which is why the competition is so powerful. One has to manually click to the last page in google to get the correct number.

Hello all. Lots of great information and tools to work with. The direction I decided to go for my brand Is to promote WA. My target audience will be people who either want to quit their job or are about to retire and want to stay busy because they do not have other time consuming hobbies. I know several displaced friends that lost their positions because of downsizing. I also know several young mothers that aren’t able to pay for babysitting while working so they are going to work from home. I want to make life better for all! I want people to know that they control their destiny. I am living proof of where hard work and commitment gets you. Keeping my focus on my goals! I plan to promote WA on FB, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, etc. but will take small steps, because, first, I need to learn to build a web site and blog. I think I am going in the right direction, but your input is greatly appreciated. Continuing on with my training...keep smiling

I plan on getting completely debt free and leaving my family in the best shape possible.
I am still trying to get through all the training offered here at WA.

Hi everyone, I am just looking for some feedback on the direction I have decided to go in and my brand choice. So because I have decided to promote WA, I want my target audience to be people who want to quit their job. Reason being is because I am that person and is one of the main reasons I joined WA so I can definitely relate. My brand is going to be Free To Be Me. I think it fits the whole concept of what WA is all about. Helping people become free to be themselves and build a life they've always dreamed of for them and their family. I think I am headed in the right direction, but any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Great idea, That is the same thing i did. but in hindsight, knowing what i know now, i would have loved to promote something else first. Because what ever i do, i'll always be able to promote WA on the side.

But then, this is just me and my opinion. At the end of the day, what works for me in a particular way, works for another in a different way. you know what i mean?

hello everyone, i have a few question im a little lost as far as what am i supposed to do to get leads or refferal. am i suppose to make a website put content in and do things that way or, am i suppose to make an optin funels and drive traffic, collect e-mails and send people to WA landing page?, i decided to give this a shot because i want to create my own website/and blogs from the ground up and eventually have a huge audience engaging my content. I also understand that a great website takes time to build specially when you want to put great content on it and not just do something half ass just to slap a few affiliate links on it......i guess what i'm trying to say is how can i start driving traffic and making some type of income, while slowly learning and bulding my website with great content

There's more than one strategy to do things here. Some people build blogs, others build funnel pages. Personally, I'm much more a fan of blogs. I find funnel pages infuriating and far too "salesy". I never stay on one for more than a few seconds.

Keep in mind that you also don't have to build a blog or funnel just to promote WA. You can do so about just about anything else in the world, and those may convert more easily than joining the other 100,000 WA members currently building sites about making money online.

Do you have any hobbies? What's your passion? I always suggest that you create a site about that first, successfully monetize it using affiliate marketing, then create the WA promotional site when you actually know what you are talking about.

People who want to quit their job,
People with undesirable jobs... Are these niches that can go under one website or are they actually just keywords? I'm a little confused please help.

Hello, people. I want to make a website in which to promote WA, and at the same time offer free audio books, PDF books and video courses about affiliate marketing. So I want the core product to be WA Platform, and secondary to be some tips and know-how articles on how to generate extra income. I don't want the website to be big. Only 3-4 pages. Is there anyone here who did this and can show me an example so I can take inspiration?
Reply

if you just promote free books, audio etc people will expect everything to be free - when they find out that you have to pay for wa then they will never return.
possibly a better idea is to have a free lead and then build an email list, market to them with free stuff and build towards the wa offer, so free pdf, info , $7 audio, info, free pdf, $14 video, free pdf, info, wa offer email sequence.
to have just a 3-4 page site, unless you have extremely good long content then it will not appear in google's ranking system.
it is better to build a loyal following rather than trying to convert cold leads every time.
but good luck with your venture.

Hint... at my JOB, we have a relationship with Phillips lights -- I expect you've heard of them -- and they have developed SEVERAL specific audiences that they target for their different products, as well as different ads for specific audiences for the same product.

As the internet & its availability is growing rapidly in this huge & very industrious nation, I m hopeful of a wide & relatively easy capture if a vast amount of traffic towards my broad & racially biased website, which will capture & hold the interest, of ALL who have a desire to save what little money they have, to spend on essentials, to obtain items costing very little, with the hope of saving expenditure in the future on what has become an "ESSENTIAL" for many, as their family, interests, & desire for knowledge of the outside world grows, with the spread of TV channels etc:continue there implacable growth, in spite of mains electricity being the only "essential" they have no need of, but must buy & use, in order to WATCH TV!!!

Hi Robert,

This is how you use keywords:

You find keywords with BOTH of this combination:

AVG > 100
QSR < 50

For me, those are the ideal criteria to look for in any keywords.

So to get that kind of keyword, yes, it's usually a phrase.

You will find as many keywords as you can.

Each post you write will be tackling only ONE of these keywords on your list.

sample "how to train a dog to sit"

Then you will incorporate that phrase in your title, first paragraph, and then once again near the end of your post.

Title: "3 Easy Steps: How To Train A Dog To Sit" - Always add to the title to make it enticing and reason why people should click on YOUR post on their results page.

First paragraph (within first 160 characters):
"When first getting a new puppy, you will want to learn how to train a dog to sit when he or she is 2 - 4 months old.

I have 3 easy steps below that I'm going to go through with you so you can teach your new puppy...."

Body: anything you want.

Last section of post somewhere:

"If you have learned how to train your dog to sit, then please comment below and let me know of your results!" - or something else, anything that will bring that keyword back into your article.

When researching keywords you need to beware of Stop Words like "what is" "how to" and words like "in" "a" "on".

Those words don't really count and if you see another keyword with same AVG but higher QSR and without those stop words, then that keyword is the true QSR.

For example "what is commission junction" and "commission junction" are the similar AVG but the true keyword is "commission junction" which will have a much higher QSR than "what is commission junction".

Sometimes you may also need to be more creative in your keywords if the product name you're promoting does not have any good keywords, you could work around that and think of why a person would need this product.

So instead of using product name keywords, you could also look at keywords like "how to cure...." or "natural remedy for..." whatever your product can do/improve for people, and so that's more keywords you could use.

You have to put yourself into the mindset of the person doing that search and figure out what a person that needs the information you're offering would search for.

Demographics is the people you are talking to in your niche. So some keywords can incorporate that as well like "best cameras for kids".

I hope this helps!

Those are the metrics to use in Jaaxy, AVG is the average searches for that keyword and QSR is the competition.

Google Analytics measures the visitor activity on your website, it has nothing to do with keywords.

That's why they are different.

Because those keywords in Google Adwords is based on PPC, not SEO.

Reply
littlemama Premium
When it's based on PPC, it's more about how much money people are bidding on those keywords, so that's what the competitiveness mean on Google Adwords' keyword planner.

Jaaxy's QSR (competition) measures how many websites use that particular in their content.

Hope this helps,
Grace

Hi Donna..... the mind blows with the opportunity you have here with your niche.
You could tackle it from - how to make your home work efficiently for you - Ie cleaning, decluttering, routines etc
this would then give the mum time and energy to spend on her on line business.
You could tackle it from - Activities and education an at home mum can do with their young children and link to educational toys and products
You could tackle it from - The mum using a hobby ie handcrafts, art, etc and how to market this through various channels.

These are just thoughts I had. Good luck with choosing your niche.

I'd like to add a thought that came up when looking through the list on page/lesson 1:
If you've ever worked in a corporate environment/company for more than one week, you came across some very unsatisfied coworkers.

Maybe some didn't show it that much to their outer world to not be laid off immediately, but I bet you can think of a couple of people who are highly unsatisfied with their current (work-life) situation.

I think that's a perfect target group, unhappy ex-colleagues that you probably can highly relate to, which in essence is "knowing your (potential) customer".

Have a great one and stay awesome! :)

Lesson learned...1) Slice the excitement, buckle down and thoroughly read and don't move to the next step, without a thorough understanding of the present content. 2) Choose the right training, if unsure, no doubt, the boot camp training, should be first. 3) Come to each lesson, ready to participate, learn and apply the knowledge. Could you provide a little more detail on what QSR on Jaaxy really means. For example, many search terms look like they have nearly the same number of searches vs traffic...but very different QSR results. The QSR on three keyword searches might yield 64, 97, and 162.

What does the QSR number tell us? Is it 100 and lower? Or just right at 100? Is there a range of QSR scores that will be acceptable?

Thanks!
Reply
CravenATAT Premium
QSR is quoted search results. This refers to the amount of websites out there using that keyword. Lower number there means less competition.

SEO is your search engine optimization. That is the number near 100. The higher it is, the better chance you have and google recognizing it.

Seo should be at or near 100 while QSR should be low so less competition. I was typing fast earlier and may have mistyped.

You want to make sure the QSR is under 100. The left columns give you the number of searches so the higher there the better. On the right will be the .com .net .org availability. I would check your keywords for qsr to see which is better, and of course google those words and see who you are up against on each.

Need advice (based on the tutorial).
I'm a vet and am targeting vets. Typing "how veterans" in Google search yields among its popular results: "how veterans can start a business."
Inserting that into WA Keyword Search yields "Searches: 56," "Traffic: 10," and "QSR / competition: 4."
Google believes that this is a popular search; WA KW search doesn't seem to think so. Am I misinterpreting the data? Google seems to be pointing me in the direction of exploiting (in a nice way) this market.

Nope. The numbers were the first result I got when I plugged "how veterans can start a business" (from Google search) into the WA keyword search (/kw_research). I don't know if the numbers I got were too low, though Google says that was a popular search in their search engine. Looks like the competition isn't very much.

Jaaxy's result is accurate. Google search does not show you the actual keyword searches and competition for the exact same keyword.

How do you know "Google says" it was a popular search?

Because when I used the main Google search screen, and typed in "how veterans," the fuller keyword ("how veterans can start a business") instantly popped up as one of the options for completing the search entry. Kyle says in the lesson says that this feature, "called Google instant," was launched by Google in 2010.

As I try to understand this I have a question.

Lets say I choose to build a site. E.g. I choose to write a post about unemployed college dropouts.

Is it in my best interest to continue writing many articles related to this initial target audience 'unemployed college dropouts.' Trying to find different low competition keywords that relate and build a business like that

Or is it just as good to write 1 or a few articles about unemployed college dropouts. And then move on to, lets say 'work opportunities for the retired'. So on, and so forth?

As I gather building a niche site is to be specific to the topic and condense as much info out of it as possible.

Any true wisdom offered will be appreciated!!!
Reply
RCoppersmit1 Premium
It depends on what your objective is with your blog, either is right. Is it to help college dropouts or anyone that is unemployed? You might write about college dropouts, the challenges they face trying to find decent employment, how they can make money, inspire them to go back to school, teach them about starting a business or teach them about affiliate marketing. One Tab for college drop outs with sub tabs, one tab for the retired with sub tabs,if it is about the unemployed; or you could make them two different niches with posts focusing on the target audience (college dropouts, retirees, stay at home mother's etc.).
Hope this helps, Best Wishes

.on a not so good day, some signs of my disability show like crazy. This makes it difficult to function in a "normal" environment even more because I never know what kind of a day I will have.
For me, my purpose for generating a second income is because I can't make ends meet on what I receive from SSDI. But ultimately, I want to leave a legacy and I hope to accomplish that from what I am learning here. I think being disabled and reaching out to others who are disabled is a pretty slim topic. I would need to expand my topic.
So, David4618, don't you think anyone who wants to do this will find the funds? There are many things they can do. Sell something on Craigslist or borrow from a close friend who supports what they are doing. I just let my need be known through conversation and "BOOM" help came from 3 directions. My daughter mailed me some money, my partner gave it to me, my neighbor who owed me money , paid me back. Of course, as soon as they get a couple of referrals, they can pay their monthly amount easily.
There is a site with Amazon where you can earn money doing odd jobs online. It's incredible. If you want anymore info. on this subject, I can direct you to it. PM me if intrrested.
I hope I have helped someone here and didn't just blab on and on.

Wishing you all the best,
Karen

Hi There, I have a very newbie question. After doing a Google Instant Search as described in Lesson 3 of this tutorial to find the most commonly searched keywords, do you need to go back to the WA keyword tool as shown in Lesson 2 & plug these keywords into that tool & follow all of the steps as shown in Lesson 2? Thank you for your help :)

Q- When I check competition by clicking the "View Result" button for specific keywords, I found no results! so in this case, is this keyword good or not good enough (I mean should I got some competitors for the key words to decide if it is good or no)!

Ok so keywords & utilise social hang outs I think I understand, but I don't have a webpage and need to learn how to do that... so I'll keep reading training until that comes forth, the actual step through of how to set up web page, so I can utilise keywords targeting my audience to attract traffic to my page for WA Affiliate interest to turn into $$. I feel I'm a long way from that...

If I wrote one article review show some of services provided at WA without pointing to any targeted audience, is this right?

then when I using google Ads will use one of the listed target audience, is this correct? (I misunderstood Kyle through his post! he means something I did not get it yet!

what I understand that Jaaxy is not enough for keyword search and can be overestimated! Oh God..Is it correct?
Reply
AlexEvans Premium
Hi Safia,
I am just in between meetings so will try to give it a good shot.

Just from reading your comment it appears that you are putting the horse before the cart. Using PPC or Google add words to promote is further along in the training, so plenty of things to work through before tackling that and as per the training it is probably better to start with Bing adds not as expensive as Google add words, a good way to learn and not so expensive if you make mistakes along the way.

If we go to the training, We are trying to establish our direction, or who are we going to reach out to.

The direction I am going to be choosing for my business is:

...........................................................................................

and the second thing

The name of my brand:

.....................................................................................................

Initially, we need to work out who we are targetting and then secondly how are we going to create content that will reach out to that audience.

The basics of it are that we want to create content that is related to what people are searching for in Google.

The amount of content that is posted online on an hourly basis is mind-boggling, it is unbelievable.

The key is to create content that is focused and relevant to the audience that we have decided to target.

So if we look at the training Kyle has started with a broad search term.

If at that stage you write an article and someone from an authority site writes an article...................both are indexed

The question is will you be on the same page in the search results for that search term, the answer is no you will not even be in the same stadium.

So how you leverage the keyword research is that you drill down so if we look at the example, Kyle has drilled down and down and down, so it ends up with search terms that are more targetted and as we do that the search terms have less competition, not so many folks writing about that topic, at the same people are searching for those search terms, so the chances that when Safia writes an article, folks will click on it and read and possibly click through to your offer and the chances are that you will end up on page one for that particular search term so once again more chances for folks to see your content.

Hope that makes sense

Good job.and the more content that we produce and get indexed and ranked more and more folks turn up to your show.

It is a whole process and one that does not happen overnight, much better to follow the training and cross the bridges as you get to them

Best wishes.

Hi Safia,
Try not to overthink things, it causes us more problems than it solves, only speaking from experience.

Jaaxy is an amazing resource, personally, it has been of huge benefit, can't say enough about it.

Like all tools and resources, they are only as good as our skill set to use it and the only way to do that is to use it, get our heads around it, you have to play around with it........... to get the results we need to work it.

The thing about it is that it is just not one thing we are building a huge jigsaw puzzle and each little bit adds to the picture.

Just follow the training we don't have to reinvent it.

Best wishes.

Okay I agree that this could be a very good target audience, but would this audience really be searching for these terms? I think if I was one from this audience I would be more likely to be searching for something like, "how to increase my income" It would be interesting to see some demographics of these searchers.

so that i one of the target keywords to use - show them how adding a 'passive income' stream to their portfolio will gove them more income.
but getting to konw the audience is one of the most important things you can do - you then think like them and know what they are after.

i know how you feel - a couple of years ago i was in the same boat - i have a lot of interests but couldn't decide on one so went for the bootcamp - thre months later i was looking back at the certification course and starting again.
seriously if you are not really passionate about the make money online business and can either buy the products or just cobble together reiviews from others on the net then go for something less competative.
even something like bathroom fans! - they are cheaper than mmo products and there are a lot of them.
it can be something you are looking to improve on the house or have just bought. others will want the same thing so why not create a site about that?
note that your first one may not be your best one - or it may be a red hot hit.
take a little bit longer and use the search bar above to look for more info on how to look for your niche - boomergp08 has a good training as has loes.

I'm not a creative person maybe.. But..
I think we need to be a bit more realistic. WA is not for everyone. There are some basic skills that a person must possess to start any online business with WA.
Ability to express oneself in writing (better in English), ability to learn some tech skills, willingness to put in a lot of time and effort before seeing any money.
I wouldn't target people who want to win a lottery or find any other get rich quick method. It will take too much effort trying to change this mental setting. Look at the "Work from home" type of groups on FB. The only posts that get attention and a gazillion "How?" comments are those with videos of people counting $100 bills.
Cash is the king there.
Well, it's getting too long. I'll have to make a blog out of it..

I share your opinion Maria - WA is not for everyone.
It's not for people who are not willing to learn and not patient.
The skill how to build an online business is something everybody has to learn - and all are provided here in WA. If one is willing to learn and persevere, she will break the code of how to 'anything' about the business - writing, expressing ideas, promoting and so on.

Just my opinion.

Look, my former nanny desperately needs work, as she has her own baby now. She is creative - can create diaper cakes, knit blankets etc.
But her English is very weak, no grammar whatsoever. She'll need years to fix it. Or hire writers.
But she is on food stamps and really has no money.
I would be happy to help her, but I feel it's just too over her head.

Hi Mary,
I agree with you 100%; WA is not for everyone! People still have to be teachable and have a certain level of basic skills. Recently, I have seen some poorly written profiles and I wonder how are those people going to be able to write. Content is the backbone of the online business. It's hard enough to be successful without the added lack of the basic skills.

There are 3 things that I can suggest you can explore.

1) She is good with creating products. Can she join-venture with someone who can write about her product and promote it online?

2) Get someone who is already have a site in her niche and have one category to promote here product. This can be done on an agreed proportion profit rate

3) Can she write in other language? If she can, help her to build a multi-language site which can be translated into English.

Just my opinion.

Hi Kyle
Having a target like "everybody with computer and internet" is really so wide and rich to think of possible WA clients. Why do we have to brand and segregate them when quest for "money/income" is also all embracing? If we do branding, we limit our scope to a limited group and drive away potential clients that we could reach or come in contact with? Can we just be open when it comes to "Target Audience"?

You have a talk targeted audience because everybody is too wide you cannot focus on the needs of everybody and by trying to you end up by targeting no one

It’s easier to position yourself as an authority site within a smaller niche Majorie, your articles can be tailored and more specific so you can really help people, plus you have less competition from other websites.

OK, I've got a question here.

I have found a keyword that I really like It has 500+ AVG and 0 QSR, I think it will convert really well and even .com is available.

Now the question is should I buy that domain or should I create several content posts around it? or both? I assume it is both, just the thing is it is quite long(29 characters) and I don't think its that brandable.

Besides the length, my concern is will the domain name help with the ranking in the google for that specific keyword and will I get that traffic if I don't have that keyword that many times in the posts?

Thank you for the help in advance! :)
Reply
TheCatherine Premium
Alex,
you have to remember that a domain name should be memorable.Your suggestion is too long to be memorable. The shorter the domain name the better it will rank and also having your keyword in the title no longer has the impact it used to have. Providing you don't use the domain name WWW.hangingplants.com and then try and sell dog food from that site you should be okay. What I mean there is you can tailor a domain to your needs but it should contain Keyword phrases from another niche
Reply
AlexSomm Premium
I have read in a couple of different places that it has an impact, then I have read in some other that it doesn't I guess that changed during some time so that is why there are different pieces of information out there.

The keyword is the niche Its similar to Kyle's "Howtolosebellyfat" from the training and I saw that a lot of his websites have long domain names, that is why I asked.

Thank you Kat. :)

It has all changed.
Once upon a time having the keyword was like "magic" and then it lead to "domain squatting" and other problems. I mean there can only ever be one "www.chocolate.com" or "www.lawyer.com" right? There are over 1 billion websites on the internet so the Search Engines have all changed their algorithms to minimise this problem now.
My advice is simply to pick the name you like and then write lots of post targeting your niche / targeting your audiences specific problems. Very, very, very few people take the time to read domain names anyway. Working links in the right spot are more important that the actual letters that make up your domain name.
Good luck with it.

I'm sure that many of Steve Jobs' ideas could have been called, 'pie in the sky' but he changed the face of mobile telephony. :)

I regularly speak to a friend in Beijing and I think that yes, there's no reason you couldn't build a website here on WA for people in China (as long as it's not blocked by the state firewall).

People in China share the same hopes and dreams that we do and I'm sure that if you picked the right niche, it could be a success.

We're definitely not targeting every person in the world. Your website should have a target audience, be it in English, Chinese or any other language.

You just need to recognize the group of people you want to target, then work towards offering value to them and them eventually monetize it.

If you need more clarification on your niche, you can check out Kyle's post here: Also, as you mentioned you may want to build websites in other languages apart from English, I've created a training here for that:

Your target audience for selling WA is NOT everyone on-line.
Please remember that many of the common features / benefits that you enjoy as a WA member are only possible because you can both speak AND write in English.

Jaaxy struggles with non-English based queries.
All the training / Jay's video's and almost all of the community posts / replies are also English based.
Chinese people who do are not literate in English will not / cannot get $49 per month of value from WA as a result.

if it is available then yes - you could use namemesh to findout whether you like other names like nameaffiliatedotcom or similar
the niche is the group of people you are serving - be clear and specific on this as you wil lbe targeting them
so people 40-50 looking to get out of a job and take early retirement - they need to find another way - affiliate marketing is the way to get more time with the grandchildren and help them through college etc
so what information do they need, what are the problems they face, what keeps them up at night or wakes them up.
look for topics and then search for keywords to write articles about
more money for retirement ( topic) 5 ways to make more money for retirement ( article title) ( keyword make money for retirement) then write about 1k words about this topic - research 4 other ways and add in affiliate marketing as one linking to your wa review

To be successful with your online business you will need to put forth some time and effort. There is a lot of hard work, especially in the beginning. However, you work at your own pace. The less time you put in the longer it will take you to reach your goals. But, this is not a race.

I would suggest you try to get in about 10 hours a week at least, but if you can't, do what you can. Maybe you have more time on the weekend.

Not quite understanding what you are saying about the laptop, but I think you are saying you do have a laptop. If that understanding is correct, you work on it when you can. If you don't have a laptop/desktop you can always do something different. There is someone here that actually goes to the library to use their computers.

Sounds like you didn't get a good first-time impression of WA. Let me assure you that the community here is very helpful to other members. I apologize if you felt something different from that. I have been here for three years and have felt nothing but encouragement and have received a lot of help from other members.

I hope that you will continue here at WA because I can honestly say that you can't get what WA offers from any place else. Sometimes people can't always express what they are actually trying to say in writing and sometimes it doesn't come out like we intend it to.

I would suggest that you concentrate on getting through the training. First the Certification Course and then The Affiliate BootCamp. Do the training step-by-step and don't skip around.

By the time you finish the course, you will have created your website and built out the content for it. The training is designed to get you where you need to be.

There are some great helpful members here and all you have to do is ask questions about anything you don't understand or need clarification on. We will be here for you.

Best wishes to you.

very useful content. As i read through the discussions I uncover that if I don't have much experience on "making money online" it may be quite a task to produce regular content on the subject, thereby rendering it difficult to promote WA. That got me a bit confused for a moment but then, I thought...even if I were to write about something I am more familiar with and passionate about, like fitness and exercise, I would still need to do research so that I produce QUALITY content!

So, why not set a challenge and enter into the deep end but strive not to drown? get out of my comfort zone and get things done?

just my opinion...what do you think?

You don't actually use Google for keyword research, you use Jaaxy. The results of a general Google search are not very accurate. Please use the tool provided for you to find the right keywords.

Don't pay too much attention to google searches.
These results are based on a general keyword and related keywords that are used by countless people to find what they want.

Your ideal keyword would be one with over a 100 searches per month but under 50 for the QSR.
It may not have many searches but it will be easy to rank with.

You and your site are in this for the long term so the more articles you publish with different keywords the more your site and articles will appear in the search results.
Have a great Sunday.

You don't HAVE to be active on Facebook. However it can be another source of quality traffic to your website. It is best to create a Facebook PAGE so that you won't have to use your personal FB page thus you won't pester your FB friends.

When you are ready to take that step, there are loads of great tutorials offered on Facebook Fan pages right on WA. See the 2nd screen print below to see how you can access them.

Basically all you need to do before you go on are 2 things.
I) Ask yourself, "Who would I like to tell about WA?"
2) What name will encompass the idea of WA and the people I want to share it with?

Look at the group Kyle Choose and look at the Name he choose.
Keep it simple you will get it as you go along.

I appreciate you,

You are always so kind and helpful. I just found messages in the bell and am replying. I still don't have an audience or a nich. I've been on that for three days. I sent them to someone to look at but have no idea who or where or how to get back to where AI was. I'm so confused. I was quitting but am going to give it another try. I didn't realize it was so much to this. It's WAY more than they make it out to be in the beginning!! Or, maybe it's just me. Either way, I'm lost and confused and have had several serious meltdowns. Hope I can do this.

The problem I have always had with getting keywords is not actually getting the keywords. It is actually developing content around those keywords so that the content is original. All my posts eventually sound like a big parrot or a broken record, just repeating the same thing over and over. That seems to be my big problem with keyword work. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting past this phenomenon?
Reply

I am not sure I understand the problem, but do you think that you need to use the keyword in all paragraphs? This is certainly not the case. You should use it in the header and withing the first 100 words or first paragraph. Then you use it sparingly. What I do is have the key topic, make 6 different paragraphs (relevant to topic) and start writing. I hope this helps.

No. The issue is that all the posts that I wrote back then sounded similar to one another. The seemed to be no differentiation from post to post on the website. I understand that all the posts are designed to "funnel down" to the promotion of WA, but the content over the whole site seemed very homogeneous rather than like separate concepts that lead to one point. Does that make sense?

Then choose keywords that are not so close to each other. In my site howtobeatyourboss.com I have post like: 'my boss is a jerk' and 'why HR is not helping' and 'passed over for promotion unfairly'. All of them eventually have a CTA to review WA.

you don't need to make all of your post tunnel down to promote wa- you can pick pu a few other affiliate programs- jaaxy or other keyword tools - ahrefs or similar.
so you are starting to move away from just one affiliate program.
dependant on how you are promoting wa, does depend on how your site will sound.
if you are posting about wordpress there is lots of differeent areas to create articles about.
if you are talking about mmo then again there are lots of areas.
what you need to do is to go back and write down the different areas within the main topic and then create 15 titles of articles and see if they match what direction you are going in.
good luck Sean

You could try PLR articles.
You would have to really edit them to make them your own though.
There are also lots of Article sites you could go to for inspiration and again edit any article that would suit.

Here's one that has a lot of categories so you're sure to find something.

I don't understand dis part I mean.
Utilise social hangouts relevant to target audience.

And also this.... leverage the keywords to promote WA.

No3..through google adwords, bingads com (pay per click promotion) ...those it mean that one can get paid once they click the promotion or what and how do they pay.

Hi,
utilising social hangouts relevant to target audiences means you go where ever your target audience are. For example, lets say your target audience are retirees then you would find social media sites, community programs, instragram pages fb pages and any websites catering to retirees etc etc. That is where you want to promote yourself to get the best responses. It will be covered more later but for example, if you advertise with fb you will use specific parameters (ie age 65 - 85) to help narrow in on your specific group.

Leveraging the keywords to promote WA is simply using the key word(s) over and over in your articles, blogs, advertisement etc to drive referrals back to WA. You want to make sure that when someone googles those words (as in the eg) your business eventually becomes one of the top sites that pops up--your goal is to be on pg 1 not pg 1798.

Pay per click is just that every time someone click on your advertisement you will get paid. I believe the amount and how to set it up will be covered a little later in the boot camp.

Hope this helps. :)

Cheers

I like your damned-the-torpedoes attitude, Mike
You have a two-inch-thick skin!

And I'm like you, buddy.
This stuff is confusing to me too but I have figured that if any of these folks can do it, I can do it too... I just need a tad more time for the information to mature in my brain.

My goal is to establish a solid passive 6-figure income...
Does it matter how long it will take me to get there?
So, what if it takes me 5 years... would it be worth it?
You betcha it is worth it - and then some!

Meantime... and until it clicks, I will just keep on reading, watching videos, asking questions, getting involved in the community... you know, immersing myself in the culture.

Again, I figure that the same way I learned English, I can learn this foreign language as well... I just need to give it whatever time it takes to make sense... my English is not too bad anymore

I'm rooting for you, Mike!

Thanks Kyle , Great Tutorial.
Something I was thinking about is that people do not only like low wage unskilled jobs. I have noticed that people tend toward easy things minimal efforts , easy money. I do not know, but by their nature they do not like to work hard. They are lazy. I believe making the things easy for them is a key in here.

I am still not clear on how to target the above list. Im trying to figure out how to take one of the examples and break it down with keywords pertaining to it and write an article about it. I wish someone who know could make a more extensive training on it.
Like for instance, tv shows. Not sure how I would target it. Or clickbank. Or people with undesirable jobs. Or looking to win the lottery.
My website is all about making money from home. I have gone over this training many times trying to get it. I need some more elaboration examples.

So you are already making money from home, right?

If that's your niche target audience then all you have to do is break it down further.

Who are you wanting to show how to make money from home, is it stay at home moms that are in their 30's, is it retired military moms in their 50's, single dads in their 40's?

You can't just say you want to show everyone how to make money from home. That's when you'll be told it is too broad of a niche.

If you are making money from home, how did you start making money from home yourself?

Where did you get your information from that got you started and what can you do better to make other's like yourself start making money at home?

You have to look at what you're doing already and do what you're familiar with. There is nothing wrong with learning how to make money from home as you do it, but if you're not making money from home how are you going to help others make it?

There are people who are already making money at home and if they want to help others make money then they would have to do research on what group of people they're more comfortable in working with.

If it's a male dad making money from home he would focus on single dads; if it's a female teacher, then her audience would be young educators looking to make extra money from home, or if it's a retired military male or female in their 40's 50's 60's already making money they would focus on military people in their age because that is something they are familiar with.

Go through the video over and over till you get what Kyle is getting across. You'll get it soon no doubt.

Hope that helps,

Rick

Hey Reta,

You're welcome! I know that finding a niche can be confusing. WA has a comprehensive lesson on this and it doesn't have to stop there.

There are other sites that explain what a niche is that can give you ideas on how to pick a niche that is fit for you.

Here's one for example - http://www.falkenstein.com/

This lady gives some tips on what to look for in a niche. There are many other sites on niches to help you just Google them and learn as much as you can until you understand then come back to WA with a different view on how to look for that niche that you can become an authority of.

You can do it Reta, you already have the desire and passion for it. Just do it, girl!

Wishing you the best and hope you find that niche

Rick

So if I were to build a site around a Click Bank product/s, would I choose an audience first and then pick up a product or products to review and promote?

If anyone has any advice on how to go about promoting CB products via Bootcamp training, I'd be very grateful.

I am torn between starting a stay work at home mom website where I'd promote WA and a CB site... Advice, please? Thanks so much!

Actually combining the two is very easy... most of the products are in the 'making money online' niche, which is also where WA falls. Pick products that are poor comparisons to WA to review and 'promote' - believe it or not, you often sell just as many products from a negative review as you do from a positive one.

Being a newbie, one of the things that I'm blown away with is that all of the sidebar tasks related to getting the job done is somehow condensed into a few steps or click of a few buttons. You don't have to over think things to complete sidebar tasks which allows you to keep moving forward.
Again...Thank you

This is really great information because this is just the way I want to promote WA; to everyone!

I understand the task behind this I think. I think it is to promote to all this different type of people separately by going to where each of these groups hangs out, so to speak. But, I'm thinking just promoting through social media would catch all these groups of people. Is that right?
Reply
onmyownterms Premium
Social media is a wide net, to be sure, but there is still no better way than by writing audience-specific content on a website.
Reply
verna8767 Premium
Okay, I will go with the audience-specific content.

Yes I can see where you're coming from. Here in the UK there are thousands of people on a minimum salary and quite a lot on a stupid scheme where employers put there staff on a no-hours contract, meaning they can phone the staff and tell them they are not needed on any particular day or time. How sad!

This bit of information is going to be useful through out this online business journey and will continue to be useful even after! There are so many people in this world in search of information and knowing that I can serve others by helping them solve whatever it is they're in search of is truly a wonderful feeling!

Reaching out to others and helping in many ways with this incredible platform is unimaginably AWESOME!!!!

Kyle,
You had me at a Million Dollars... just by deliberately focusing on one particular audience... Wow, That's huge!!

This means that building my WA Affiliate business to just 1/10 of that ($100,000 per year)- in 5 years, is so incredibly doable...!

This way of thinking could actually get the fire going under anyone remotely perceiving how big this can get, right?

I keep remembering what you said earlier that every expert... everyone making big money today-including you and Carson, was just a newbie not long ago... Wow, Somebody slap my mama!

Thanks again

Do you recommend targeting one website around one specific group of people (i.e. college students)? I would like to make a website specifically tailored to writers who want to make money through a variety of avenues (self-publishing, traditional publishing, fiction, non-fiction, copywriting, blogging) because I've tried them all. I'm not sure if that's specific enough, though.
Reply

Hi Kate,
Yes, one site per niche - otherwise you'll end up in competition with yourself for keywords and keyphrases. Plus your content may get a little diluted across two sites.

That's a great niche, and yes, I'd say it was specific enough.

Good luck.

I agree with Sean, definitely go with one website, one topic. You may find an opening to expand your niche as your site grows, but in general, the more narrow your niche, the easier it is to become an authority and consistently rank well. Having said that... you don't want to go so narrow that your audience is too small, or you run out of content ideas too quickly... which won't be a problem in the writers niche.

The key to getting traction early on is going after the low hanging fruit as Kyle teaches when doing keyword research. There may not be a ton of traffic with low competition keywords but you can rank much easier and the traffic you get will signal to Google what your website is about. The behaviour of your readers... how long they remain on page for example, and how they interact with your site... (do they click through to your other pages or hit the back button), indicates to Google the quality of your content and its relevancy.

So, when you're doing your keyword research, make sure to also do SERP (search engine results page) research as well to see the competition you're up against. Your SERP research will give you insight into what Google sees as relevant to that search term and your aim is to create better, more engaging content than your competition... which is much easier inside a relatively narrow niche.

As far as the niche you're suggesting, I would start out with only one topic. Self-publishing for example, but base that decision on your keyword research. The "blogging" for bloggers niche is extremely competitive so my personal opinion would be to leave that one alone (but you may uncover something there during your research). Blogging for teenagers and young adults for example might be a way to narrow that topic down.
