So what are some other backlink sources?
Well there's tons, in fact every website out there can be a possible backlink. What I recommend doing is looking for these sites - but always, always make sure the sites you're looking for are 'niche specific'.
What I mean by 'niche specific' is that you're not wasting your time building links to just any website you come across. You want to establish backlinks on websites of the 2 R's variety:
Related and Relevant
Related and relevant websites are exactly about your niche or product. So visitors on these websites already know what your landing page, website or product is about. There's no need to hard-sell them on these sites, they already know so pre-sell - or give an idea of what you're offering. Now you need to get your link in front of them, and this happens in a few ways.
Other backlink websites could be:
We want to be 'relevant and related' so if the website, directory category or forum isn't about your product niche - don't bother trying to make a backlink.

Other backlink websites could be:
- Directories, like DMOZ.org - be sure to drill down deep into the categories
- Forums - be really specific, lurk a while and identify what the community wants and needs
- Blogs - make relationships with other bloggers, can you learn anything from their comment sections? - what does their audience need?
- Youtube comments - same idea as blogs, there may be some good information in there on what the audience is looking for
- Yahoo Answers - is built to help people find solutions. Your product is a solution to their specific problem
- and the list goes on...
