Thank you Marion for another easy to follow tutorial.

I haven't paid much attention to my GWT until now and I've searched everywhere in WA community to find the solution to my problem, but I don't think I know enough about sitemaps to figure it out.
So I have some questions to ask..

When I go under "Sitemaps" in "Crawl", I find that there are 17 indexed and 27 submitted content types. What does that mean?

Because below the chart I can only see 4 sitemaps I tried to add today and all of them have errors I have no idea how to fix it. I attached photo of an error reported.

I've been trying to fix it for hours now and nothing.
Would much appreciate any help and tips.

Thank you,
Katya

This sort of issue often occurs when there is more than one plugin generating a sitemap. If you have another sitemap or SEO plugin then please deactivate it and delete it. If the problem persists then contact Site Support.

Hi Marion - thank you for this training. I have a question, should the Sitemap include photos? Also, I noticed some URL’s that don’t link to anything. I believe they were posts I started but are not currently published. How would I clean that up?

Thank you so much for your help,

Michele
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
The images in your website each have their own URL so they usually get included in the sitemap. When you say "URLs that don't link to anything" do you mean Error 404s? The plugin should be updating the sitemap whenever you add or remove content.

pags7247 Premium
Thank you for the response Marion. I cleaned up a few things that I didn't realize were published, so I think that was the issue. But I still have one question, it looks like all of the photos in my library are included in the sitemap. I would have thought it would just be the ones included in the posts that are published.

Thanks again for your help.

Michele

Hello Marion,
I follow your training about Sitemap and was able to follow. But your video does not tell me how to actually create a sitemap. When I follow your steps, my sitemap is empty, not populated like yours. I am sure I missed something when creating my post which could explain why many of my posts are still not indexed. my website is www.balancedbodyph.com. Please check it out and tell me what I am doing wrong.
Cheers

The plugin creates the sitemap when you activate that feature. Please watch the video again and make sure you follow all the steps.

Make sure you have deactivated and deleted any other plugins that have the ability to create sitemaps such as Yoast SEO and Google XML Sitemaps or you'll have more than one plugin trying to create the same file which results in failure. Deactivating is not enough, you have to delete the plugin too to remove all data it may have created.

Deactivate all other plugins that can create sitemaps. Having more than one plugin doing the same job causes problems.

Hello Marion, thanks for sharing this helpful training! I've followed along and mostly found success, except that when I clicked on "view your sitemap" to see how it looked, all I've got is a blank page, that says "this XML file does not appear to have style information associated with it". Do you know why this might be?? thanks!
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
That often occurs when you've got 2 plugins trying to create sitemaps. If you have Yoast SEO or Google XML Sitemaps or a similar plugin then deactivate the extra plugin(s) and just use All In One SEO.
Reply
JMeola Premium
Ok! The 4 plugins that I have on my site or All in One, EWW image optimizer, CommentLuv, and Social Warfare. Do you know which one might be causing the mix up? I'm sorry to ask so many questions, I'm just really stuck.
Reply
JMeola Premium
I did read that the All In One SEO sitemap will only work if I have pretty permalinks installed, and I don't have that. Do I need to get something to make the links "pretty"?
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
I don't think Pretty Links plugin would make the slightest difference Jordan.

I notice that CommentLuv has not been updated for over a year and has not been tested with the current version of WordPress. Perhaps that's what is interfering with the sitemap.

Hi marion i just finished installing the sitemap using seo, but when i tried to copy it, i got this:
"My url is here before all this other things"/wp-admin/admin.php?page=all-in-one-seo-pack/modules/aioseop_sitemap.php

I dont know what am doing wrong.

I had to take out the url as am unable to post this message with it.

Url is steadyincomefromhome.com

Thanks.
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
It looks like your sitemap is not working properly. When I use https://steadyincomefromhome.com/sitemap.xml/ to try to access your sitemap I'm taken to your home page.

Make sure you don't have any other plugins that have the potential to generate a sitemap e.g. Yoast SEO or Google XML Sitemaps. When 2 or more plugins are trying to generate the same file they trip over each other.

Thanks for checking this out Marion. I tried to submit the sitemap using the plugin as Kyle's video showed but to no avail so i tried using the seo as you showed, everything was exatly as you explained it. The only problem is that when i tried to copy my url to webmaster i endup getting this: dormain"/wp-admin/admin.php?page=all-in-one-seo-pack/modules/aioseop_sitemap.php.i dont undetstand why.
I tried to deactivate the plug in and tried the seo method again but its the same. I cant figure what went wrong.

Reply
MarionBlack Premium
I'm not sure why this is happening Lana. Make sure you don't have any other plugins that can generate a sitemap as having 2 or more plugins doing the same job can really mess things up.
Reply

thank you for your answer. I don't have any other plugins which generate sitemap.
I have only following:
Ad injection (for advertising atachment to the site)
All In One SEO Pack
EWWW Image Optimizer
Insert Headers and Footers
SumoMe
WP Statistics
I am almost sure that none of them is creating site map.

Hi Marion, I also have the Google XML sitemap per the training. I do have a couple of questions for you.

1) What is the difference in a sitemap created by AIO SEO plugin vs Google XML plugin?

2) I recently had SiteSupport tell me to submit a sitemap to Google Search Console using the AIO SEO. From the training though, I used Google XML for Bing. I had some errors, but have since fixed them and that is why SiteSupport had me submit a new sitemap. I did not think about submitting a new sitemap to Bing. How should I proceed with Bing? Using Google XML or AIO SEO?

3) Can I uninstall Google XML plugin? I suppose not if I am using it for Bing? I guess I need an answer to #2 first.

I have had some issues with sitemaps, so I am kind of afraid to mess with anything, like uninstalling.

Thanks!
Steve

MarionBlack Premium
The issues you've had with sitemaps are most likely because you've had two plugins trying to do the same job and they clash with each other. They are both trying to create the same file. It's up to you to decide which plugin you want to use and then you can deactivate and delete the other one. I prefer to use the SEO plugin to generate the sitemap to reduce the number of plugins.

I think that All In One SEO and Google Sitemaps create the same file (sitemap.xml) so it doesn't matter which sitemap you've submitted to Bing as they just look at the most recent sitemap as they crawl your website. Once you've removed the extra plugin you can resubmit your sitemap to all the search engines.

The other day I went to the All In One SEO drop down menu and saw XML Sitemap? and wondered why I have the Google Sitemap by Bestwebsoft plugin, and not that one it's sitting there.

(I used to have the Google XML Sitemap plugin added from one of the lessons, but had problems and SiteSupport went in and fixed it, adding the plugin I have now)

Why don't we use the one in the All In One SEO from the beginning?

This is confusing for myself being new here.

If I use this one, can I remove the Google Sitemap by Bestwebsoft plugin?

Thanks :)
