Your homepage should be at the top. You will then have sections or pages under it. All of your content should be possible to file under one of these categories.

You can also divide your website into sections or subcategories if you have a larger site. Your individual pages and posts will be listed below your subcategories or categories.

Your Homepage

Avoid linking to too many pages on your homepage. This will create clutter. A cluttered homepage is not going to guide visitors. There are many other things you can do to improve your homepage.

Navigation

A well-structured website is important, but so is clear navigation. The menu and breadcrumbs are the two major elements of your site's navigation.

The Menu

Let's start with the menu. Your website menu is the most important navigation tool on your site.

Your menu is used by visitors to navigate your website. It allows them to understand the structure of your site. The main categories of your website should have a place on the homepage's menu.

It's not necessary to have everything on one menu. A large site may have many categories. This can make your main menu look cluttered and not reflect the rest of your site. It's fine to have a second menu if it makes sense.

eBay, for example, has a top-bar menu, also known as the top menu, and the main menu. This menu links directly to pages that don't belong to a specific category in the shop. The eBay main menu displays the most important product categories.

You should not add too many links to your menu, just as you do on your homepage. They will be less useful for users as well as search engines if you do.

Breadcrumb Trail

Breadcrumbs can be added to pages to make the structure of your site even clearer. Breadcrumbs are clickable hyperlinks that can be found at the top or bottom of a page, post, or another area.

They are a way to show the structure of your website and also allow visitors to find their way around your site. Also, breadcrumbs improve the user experience and the SEO of your website.

You can choose from a variety of breadcrumb plugins available for WordPress sites. The Yoast SEO plugin also has a breadcrumb function.
