When I first began trying to build an internet business I worked pretty inconsistently. I was searching for shortcuts and push-button systems half of the time because, frankly, I was too lazy to do any real work.

I got sick of being scammed and I finally decided that I was going to start working consistently. That is when I finally broke through.

Consistency is key, and it's the first step in setting up shop.

Think about how many hours you can work on your internet business each week. It doesn't matter if you have a full-time job or if you have all of the time in the world - you need to set a number and stick to it. And it should be AT LEAST 10 hours per week.

Set that number and hit it each week for the next six months MINIMUM.

Okay, so you should have the number of hours that you can work each week set in your mind by this point in the email. If you don't, pause to stop reading, crunch the numbers and figure out what your number is. Again, it should be at least 10. Got it? Good, then let's really start today's lesson.

I get asked this question a lot: "Do I need a website to run an internet business?" The answer is yes. Unequivocally, irrefutably - yes. Does a shoe store sell to you out of the trunk of their car? What about your groceries - do you buy them out of a trunk?

We both know the answer to those questions, so if the idea of starting a website freaks you out then I'm sorry, you're going to have to get over it or give up now. You can't run an internet business without one. Anyone that tells you otherwise is trying to scam you.

It's not remotely as difficult as you might think it is and we'll discuss website setup more in a minute.

Before we do that, you'll have to pick a niche. There are A LOT of ways to pick a niche, but the best walkthrough I have ever come across online is this one, and conveniently it's here within the WA community. Brainstorm a few niche ideas by following the walkthrough I've linked you to above. After you've done that (take your time with it), continue with this lesson.

There's A TON of other brilliant, extremely helpful content within Wealthy Affiliate that you can access for free, but please explore it at another time. For now we need to stay focused on this lesson.

After you've followed all of the steps in that lesson and have some ideas for niches, you'll need to setup your website. I'm going to link you to some other free lessons within Wealthy Affiliate that will walk you through setting up a website step-by-step.

This is a several step process and it will probably take you one or two hours if you've never setup a website before. It won't always take that long, but the first time might. Here are the steps:

1) Setting up the foundation of your site
2) Familiarizing yourself with your website
3) Fine-tuning a few key points
4) Preparing your site for the search engines

Don't skip any of those steps. If you're in a hurry right now, save this message and come back to it later. If not, you'll be skipping to multiplication without ever learning simple addition/subtraction - you're screwing yourself a little ways down the road.

I could keep stacking on tasks, but this is enough for this lesson. Make sure to accomplish the three tasks at the bottom of this lesson, and once you've done that you'll be ready to move onto lesson two.

If you're feeling overwhelmed just do your best to push through it. Remember, the idea of this SIMPLE7 course isn't to have you running a fully operational website by the end of the course. Rather, the idea is to teach you all of the vital information you need to succeed in this industry.

Relax and take a deep breath. You can do this, you just need to work consistently, get up whenever you're knocked down, and stay focused.

If you're still reading this lesson I have complete faith that you can make it in this industry. Keep pressing forward.

Tasks 0/3 completed
1. Choose a number of hours that you can work each week on your internet business
2. Pick a niche using the Wealthy Affiliate walkthrough I linked to about halfway through the post
3. Setup your website using the four steps I

Just completed your training, Ian. Boy, was it well-done, too! I am amazed at the level of instructional prowess you and other WA trainers possess. Your teaching points were very clear, well-organized, and very applicable to my niche website experiences thus far.

You suggested offering my visitors a useful opt-in incentive such as an ebook. I found a couple of plr ebooks related to my niche and downloaded them. One of them (Bird Watching for Beginners) is excellent and I will use it right away. The other, (Making Money Online from Your Hobby) unfortunately, was not as good. It contained a multitude of grammatical errors and fluency issues, making it unsatisfactory for my readers. I'm considering writing my own ebook on the same topic, incorporating the information and knowledge I've gained from WA over the past couple of months into the manuscript. I think I'm finally up for that big task!

Finally, I will continue to strengthen my niche website by continued application of your 7 steps -- in particular, using solid data to drive my improvements. Analyzing my data from Google Analytics is becoming much easier for me as I learn how to interpret all of the facets involved (visitor behavior, page content stats, bounce rates, referral sources, conversions, etc...).

Thank you for providing us with such excellent instructional support. Now I'm off to apply more of what I've learned from you today!

Thank you very much for letting me know that you found it helpful Marie! Would it be asking for too much if I requested that you leave a review for other community members on the training homepage? It would help them to know whether or not it's worth their time!

Yes, of course, Ian. Sorry I neglected to leave a review right after posting my comment here. (It was very late and all of that comprehensive training exhausted my brain (LOL)! I will head over to the homepage right now. Thanx for everything!

I just saw your review, and thank you so much! That helps people know what to expect coming in. I'm so happy that I've helped you, and very much look forward to hearing how it helps you expand your business in the future!

And don't worry, I know it's exhausting. I actually wrote them as a set of courses that's spread out over two weeks to my email list, so covering it all in one night is no small feat. You're a trooper!
