One important step in setting up your blog or website is getting the right domain name. Sometimes, the name chosen by a blogger or webmaster might already be taken leaving him with fewer options or suggestions by the hosting company.

It is quite common to find bloggers who have their domain names the same as their personal names. I know you may be wondering if that is a smart thing to do. With your personal domain name, there are many things you can do online.

As a business owner, you may wish to host your online store or share information with some of your customers. You can also have a digital base where people can learn about you and reach out to communicate with you.

We will take a look at the benefits and demerits of using your personal name as your domain name.

Lately I have in mind to put for my wife her first and last name in the domain of her site. Thank you Israel for clarifying the pros and cons.

I have a domain with my name but am not using it at the moment, maybe later. Food for thought.

Of course, you should keep that personalized domain name and start using it some other time. Thanks for your lovely comment, Lily!

Great post Israel. For me using my name as a brand has enabled me to get far more exposure, as near enough everything I do online, (emails, posts, comments and sites) will have my name in some form or another. It's also free publicity.
