When prospective freelance writers get in touch and ask me how they could make a head start in freelance writing, I simply reply to them with a couple of things. For instance, I instruct them to:
- Build a brand
- Blog consistently
- Build engagement with influencers and other relevant people on social media platforms
- Use your picture and real name on social media platforms
- Write guest posts
- Leave attention-grabbing comments on relevant blogs
Some of those people tried a few things out, while others did give up on the freelance writing hustle. Though freelancing entails much perseverance, energy and courage, it has to be seen or managed as a side hustle while you keep moving on the blogging ride.
I publish guest posts for other niche-related bloggers who have got much more traffic than I have and that has helped a lot in connecting with the ideal audience through comments and referral traffic. Not that you would have to focus on guest posting for SEO or backlinks, but you would rather guest post to build bonds with other bloggers in your specialty and their followers. When they start following you back to your blog, their audiences will follow suit.
