There can be many reasons that we should rewrite and republish our old content, few of them are:

1.Lots of content is timeless.

Many of the content we create on our blogs are timeless and evergreen. Like this subject of why should we rewrite our old content, this topic is evergreen and valid, even after a year or two. In any given niche, there are many topics, subjects and keywords which are evergreen and the content created around this keywords are bound to be effective, informative and get read time and over again.

2. Your audience changes and grows.

We all know that everyday our audience changes, new visitors arrive on our sites, likes our content but if the website is not properlly optimized for the old content, there is no way to a new visitor of our old content which might be very helpful to them.

3. Waste of Quality Copy if not Republished.

We all know that to create a quality content we invest a lot of time and money, and if its not reaching to the targeted audience, it is a waste of quality copy. So rewriting and republishing it after some time, is good idea.

4. More Effective Presentation

As time goes, as a blogger we get to know our audience in much better way, also how the search engines work, slowly we get hold on the all these related topics. So when we rewrite our old blogs, we have better understanding of our audience, keywords and make a more effective presentation of the subject.

5.Keyword Tweaking

Keyword tweaking can also help to reach an entirely new and huge audience on the internet. We all know that little changes in keywords can make it possible to reache to an entirely new audience. So while writing old blog post, tweaking keywords can help you to rank in better way.

Good afternoon Shubhaangi,

Thank you for this good lesson.
Since I have been doing Site Comments I am automatically redoing old posts.
I have this system which is the same for both my websites.
I make a list with all the posts that only have 2 comments. I start with the oldest and check if all is ok, add some more information, a book, and take care it has some links and also a backlink at the bottom.
When all is ok I ask for comments. Like that, I work myself up to the newest post. Then I will start a new list of posts which only have 4 comments.
Like this, I have been rotating everything and I am happy with the result.

Didn't think rewriting content with the same keyword would be a good idea, but you can probably write related keyword articles.

I am a big believer of repurposing content yes. Not so much republishing.
