Namecheap has recently redesigned their website creating a lot of confusion for new members trying to point their new domain names to WA hosting.

First, you want to move our cursor over your user name which will give you this drop down menu. Click Manage Domains

Yeah can you believe this. Wouldn't I make a great success story some day? ha ha ha ha ha. It could be our miracle story! See, I thought it meant move cursor over username here on WA but it was talking about on Namecheap. That's how confused I get. Everything has to be exact and very clear. It was not clear to me which site he was talking about, see? And I could not find a user name here on the WA site to move my cursor over. I think where other people assume, I am never sure, and have to ask. My logic is different than everyone else's.

Oh no, I moved my growingoldwithdiabetes.siterubix.com to WA hosting and growingoldwithdiabetes.com and when I log in, everything is gone. I had purchased the domain and transferred it to WA earlier and checked whois to make sure the DNS was pointing to WA servers before I moved. I was very careful about typing in the right domain.com too. What do I do?

Reply
steveo5770 Premium
The siterubix site would already be on WA hosting. It sounds like you tried to replace your sub-domain with a premium domain. You should not have lost your content but if did, you should submit a support ticket since WA backs all content as long as it wasn't deleted.

On the WA your DNS is the info Steve gave you above. It is in WA under "Domains" tab on your "Build My Website."

In your "Namecheap" point on your account name and find "Manage Domains"

Choose the domain you what to point to WA.

Now on the left side look for "General,"

Under that Look for "Domain Name Server Setup".

Once your open "Domain Name Server Setup."

Copy and paste the two Nameservers Steve posted above.

It could take up to 24 hours for everything to completely transfer. One I had took about and hour the other was not until the next day.

Hi Steve, yeah that's where my trouble began. I was trying to find out how well my site ranks in Google Webmaster Tools and they gave me a set of instructions to carry out to verify that I am the owner of my site. I originally purchased the domain from namecheap and one of the instructions was to choose the option 'all host records' except this wasn't there. I managed to contact a representative who told me that the option 'all host records' would not be there because i am not hosting my site from namecheap. I have followed the training videos fronm the beginningt including hosting my site with WA. I therefore asked this forum how I can find out my ranking and I was told that Alexa is the best option. Do you know how I can use Google webmaster tools please when it won't give me the 'all host records option' as i am njnot hosting with them?
Reply
steveo5770 Premium
Sorry you're having problems with this. I don't remember exactly how it worked when I set up google webmaster tools but I remember it being a fast and simple process.
Reply
mdshelley Premium
OK, thanks Steve. I was getting confused about the terminology from the early lessons that I completed a while ago. Yeah, I am definitely already hosting my domain name from WA. With regards to where my website ranks in Google, I guess I can check on Alexa from time to time to see if it's visible yet. At the moment I am spending most of my time adding content to my website and was just curious how this has affected my Google ranking. I am really enjoying creating my site and love writing movie reviews to the extent that I sometimes forget that I am doing this to to earn a living! As time passes though, the financial side will become more of an issue and sometimes panic when I realize this!
Reply
steveo5770 Premium
Alexa won't tell you anything about your Google ranking. I don't think Google ranks your entire site. Each page is ranked individually and you can see how well they rank within Google Webmaster Tools.

Reply
No.

From your main page once you've logged in, there will be a column and at the top it will say "number of domains on your account: View"

Click view.

Then click the domain name you want to set up the nameserver.

Now on the left had side is a new column and under "General" the second option there says "Domain Name Server Setup"

click on that.

click "specify custom DNS servers" and then add the WA namesevers and hit save changes.

May take 24 hours for the switch to happen, but usually it's within the hour

Moving a Domain Name out of Your Account

If you want to move a domain name from one account with us to another, you are in the right place to get started — it's called an Account Change. If you need to move a domain name to a different registrar, see Transferring Domain Names to Another Registrar.

After you complete the following steps, we send the owner of the receiving account an email with instructions to confirm the move. The recipient must confirm the domain name move within 10 days. After that time, the transaction times out and you must reinitiate it. For instructions on confirming a domain name move, see Accepting a Domain Name into Your Account.

NOTE: A domain name must be in active status to change accounts. Account changes can only be performed 5 days after the initial registration.
To Move a Domain Name Out of Your Account

Log in to your Account Manager.
Next to Domains, click Launch.
Select the domain name(s) you want to move.
Under More, click Begin Account Change.
Enter the Email address of the new owner.
If you know the new owner's customer number, select I have... and then enter the account login information.

NOTE: If you do not know the new registrant's login information, leave this field blank, and then select Enter new details in step 7.
In Domain's contact information, select one of the following:

NOTE: The new registrant's Customer # or login name might be required or optional depending on what you select here. For Enter new details, it is optional. For all other options, it is required. If entered, the value must match information on file in the receiving account.
Enter new details — Enter contact information for the new registrant.
Use details from specified customer account — Use contact information from the account you entered in step 6. (This will not work until the specified customer has setup their settings page to include all necessary information.)
Do not change — Retain the contact information currently assigned to the domain name you are moving.

NOTE: If moving a country-code top-level domain name (ccTLD), you might have to select this option and have the new registrant contact our support department to update the contact information. For more information, see About ccTLDs (Country-Code Domain Names).
Select Keep the current nameservers for this domain to retain the current nameservers for the domain name. If you do not select this option, we park the domain name when the new registrant activates it in the new account.

NOTE: The domain name loses any custom DNS when it moves to the new account.
Click Next.
If you selected Enter new details, complete the following, and then click Next:
Organization (Optional) — The organization with which the new registrant is affiliated, if any
I certify that the specified organization... (Optional) — Indicates you agree that the organization will be the legal registrant
First name and Last name — The new registrant's first and last name
Address 1 and 2 — The new registrant's street address
Country — The country in which the new registrant resides
City, State, Postal Code — The new registrant's city, state, and ZIP code
Phone — The new registrant's phone number
Fax (Optional) — The new registrant's fax number

NOTE: We display a list of the services that we will cancel after you move the domain name from your account. You cannot reverse a cancellation after you agree to the move.
Read the Domain Name Change of Registrant Agreement, and, if you agree to the terms, select I have read and agree to the Domain Name Change...

NOTE: When you change the Organization or the First name or the Last name (in the absence of an Organization entry), you must agree to a 60-day lockdown to continue. If you have a .au domain name, a 60-day lock will not apply.
If you want to transfer your domain name during the 60-day period, you should decline the Change of Registrant and transfer your domain name before updating the Organization, First name, or Last name fields. Otherwise, select I understand that, if I want to
