You´ve probably heard it before “Content is King” and really for Google now unique quality content is what rules in the eyes of Google. This means that copy content from someone else and put it on your own site is probably the worst thing you can do when it comes to SEO. Google will hit you hard and you site will not be visible in the rankings.

A good piece of advice is to write about something you know or something you like. This way you write in a more natural way and Google will notice. Try to avoid spelling errors this is easy for Google to discover and it´s not necessary to rank lower due to something as simple as that.

When it comes to content diversify and add different types of content to your site. If you only use text it can be really hard to rank high these days. Use pictures that are related to what you are writing about and change the alternative text to something related to your topic. It could be your main keyword, but don´t spam it and use this on all your pictures. Choose something that is related to your text and you´ll be fine.

Add video to you site or blog; make sure it is related to what you are writing about. Preferably you should make your own videos and have them link back to your site. YouTube is owned by Google and usually rank faster than sites these days! It is quite common to see several YouTube videos in the top 10 listing and this means that you should use it too. Make sure you add a link back to your site or blog and if possible add some information about your site in the video as well. Make it easy and desirable for viewers to visit your site.
If you don´t make videos (though I think you should take a look at the article: No more excuse for not making Videos - meet Screenr) you should always link to or embed videos that are related to your content.

Remember that since content is important a blog post should not be shorter than 400 words. Actually I find it easier to write a good quality content blog if it is around 600 words, this way it´s easier to avoid a high keyword density in the text as well. I will discuss keyword density in more detail later.
