What is this Scoop. It! You Speak of, Peej?

Scoop.it! is a really cute little content curation tool that you can join for free. I wore out my 14-day trial and built a cool little online magazine which still gets some wee bit of traffic. Also, there's a social aspect to it whereas you can network with some folks and exchange some links. And, I'm STILL using the free version!

Don't know what "Content Curation" is all about?

Curated content is just a mashup of snippets of various type of media and other content from a bunch of different websites into a single magazine-type website. There are several programs both free and paid that can help you "curate" content from websites within your niche. But, from what I have seen, unless you have a "news" type website or newsy category to put this in, it can be a lot more trouble than it's worth. I'm sure others will argue this point, but when I tried it on a couple of websites and it's simply not my cuppa tea, or coffee or whiskey. Hehehe! Anyway, I digress... let's move on.

Backlink Variation

Okay, before we dig into the benefits and using this cool content curation tool, please understand this is simply one variation of the many types of backlinks you should have in your backlink portfolio. I believe all my Scoop. It! backlinks are no-follow. For more on backlink variation, the differences and why it's important, please review my previous training here:

The Benefits of Scoop.It!

Okay, getting back to Scoop. It! As many of you know, I'm all about branding yourself or your services - creating a following and making a name for yourself as an authority within your chosen niche. Be the Big-Dawg master! Don't think you can't do it. We all had to start somewhere.

Okay, so in the past I have mentioned great places to create yourself as an authority such as Medium, Quora, Sway and others. Well, ScoopIt! can help you tremendously in this same realm as well as creating some backlink diversity for the search engines.

"By using Scoop.it, we increased our SEO footprint by 200%.Traffic to our site increased and our SERP rankings improved for keywords we weren’t even on the radar for beforehand." -- Keith Ward - Director of Global Marketing, d-Wise

The Big-G (Google, you may have heard of them.) has indexed a ton of backlinks from Scoop. It! pages for my website. So, again, it's in my toolbox and something you may wanna test out. Just Sayin'!

If you decide to go Pro, here are the prices:

Peg Corwin's insight on Content Curation:

"There is a huge difference between quoting and commenting on a post (curation) and large-scale duplication, or spam. The key is that content curators apply judgement before selecting what to publish. And they add context. Thus curation helps content marketers rank in search."

Although I've been running "expired" for a few months, now that I've nearly completed my website revamp, I'll likely go Pro. I'll warn you though, like some of the other tools within my repertoire, Scoop. It! can be quite addictive once you get used to it. Yep, to me it's just plain fun - but, many folks tell me I'm weird. So, there's that. I did take my meds today though! Okay, again I digress, but hey, whatta want for free! LOL! Moving on....

You put a new light on curation. Others have said don't do it.

I know, Barry! Because Scoop. It! allows the curation on THEIR website and not yours, it's totally safe!
