When commenting DON'T:

1. Leave a short and silly reply like:

"Hey dude, nice post!"

What on earth am I going to do with that other than delete it? If you are not going to leave a QUALITY comment don't bother.

2. Text Type.

For starters it looks terrible. It just looks cheap to me. It is hard to read... and more importantly the search engines are probably like "what the F is that"? Are you following me? Yes the search engines can't read text type, they don't like it. I don't like it and I am sure the website owner doesn't either.

Leave text type for text messaging your personal friends. That is where it belongs.

3. Give feedback on the website owners website!

This one is common. I personally always appreciate feedback on my website, wait ALMOST ALWAYS. If you inbox me on WA and point out my typing errors, or tell me you think my website would convert better if I did something else, YES please!

When you comment on my website pointing out my typing errors and telling me my theme looks bad not so cool! Leave a quality comment and then take the time to contact me privately and tell me your thoughts. I would LOVE to hear them.

4. Say you are a WA member!

Not that you need to hide this, but when someone arrives on my website and 95% of my comments are from fellow WA members don't you think my visitors will find this just a little bit strange?

Instead of saying, Yes I am also a WA member and I am loving it too, say something constructive and valuable! Ask a question about WA, like for eg: would you recommend WA above XYZ platform to build a free website.

Ask why you should trust WA after being caught out in so many scams?

This gives the website owner the chance to compare WA with something else and give reasons why. If you just blather on about also being a WA member and it being so great the only way the website owner can reply is to say something "Glad you are enjoying WA too!"

And if most of the people that come to my site say they are from WA and love it, most of comments back can only be along the lines of "Glad you are enjoying it". This is kinda boring and repetitive don't you think?

Thanks for writing this! I struggle daily with the comments I get. They are so vague that I don't even know if the person who left the comment read my article.

Yip I get that too sometimes, are you using the site comments feature? I put the link in the training.

At least that way you have full control over how many comments you get and if you disapprove one you will still get another comment. This way whatever work you put in you always get back!

They could scan article, it is faster and use in comments thoughts from our writing. During all time, I got few real comments. Other just couple long sentences.

Did my rant inspire you to write this? Whatever did, I'm glad. I guess I should have thought of doing it, since my issues of late led to my rant in the first place!

You had a rant? Sorry I missed it :)

Nope just something I have noticed lately, lots of people complaining and I see the same people leaving quality comments on my website over and over again, which is great! But there are lots of people asking for comments in the thread and I am there every day.... so I just wonder where they are putting their comments.

I have also seen other people complaining about not getting many comments when they give a lot.... and these are very often the people I see leaving great comments on my website. So essentially something is going wrong isn't there?

I have also received some really silly comments like "hey nice site" on my websites... pointless, completely pointless.

I just think if everyone understood the importance of what they are doing they would do a better job of it.

I'm glad you wrote this. I wish it was mandatory reading, especially for people using the comments exchange. Some of the comments I've gotten from there the past few weeks have been rubbish. Let's hope this training reaches a wide audience for all of our sake.

Cheers!

It is a pleasure and there is a reason I wrote it! I hope to help others, I am sure they don't intentionally give low quality comments, they just don't understand the importance of comments.

If everyone just gave really high quality comments everyone wouldn't have to work quite so hard! We wouldn't need as many would we :)
