It’s now time to login into your FTP. Once logged in move your eyes over to the top right column as in the image above and click on the httpdocs, which is the third down.

Now move your eyes to the bottom right column, for this you may need to scroll down. You need to search for the wp-config-sample.php file.

Don’t be alarmed opening up this file, it won’t bite you. Follow these simple tips and all will be well.

To open up this php file you need to right click and move your mouse to Edit/View. Click on this to open, it is okay to open this in notepad.

Another question sharon. What is a config file? and what are Keys andv Salts an how does one use them?

Oh, and what are PHP files? Also what do you mean by 'hacking'?

These are actually big questions that can't be answered simply. But in essence, PHP files are what make your site look the way it does and they all talk to each other, this includes the config file. Keys & Salts are unique phrases to ward off hackers, I think I explained this in my training. Hackers are evil things that love to destroy. I hope I've answered your question :)

I agree, do you think it's too complicated?

Hi Sharon, no, I don't think it's too complicated, particularly if you have some knowledge of ftp and php, although people may be concerned that if they get it wrong it could crash their sites. I would suggest trying it on a site rubix test site, that way if it goes wrong it can be deleted, then start again on another test site till you find out where you are going wrong. Unfortunately, free members are only allowed two free sites, so I would say to them be careful.
