PageRank uses a specific algorithm to evaluate web pages based on their external backlinks. The term “PageRank” was originated from Larry Page, a computer technologist who invented this algorithm along with Sergey Brin during their days at Standford University and patented it around 1997.
Literally, a web page with hundreds or thousands of inbound links is ranked higher than a page with only a couple of backlinks. In SEO best practices, the expression “PageRank” is mostly related to link juice.
