You have likely heard the term "keyword research". This is the act of finding keyword phrases that are relevant to your niche and deciding whether or not it is appropriate to build content around that particular keyword.

Keywords are going to be the “root” of all your SEO success.

First Off, WHAT IS A KEYWORD?

A keyword is simply a word or phrase that people search for in the search engines. Every time you do a google search you are entering a "keyword" into the search box.

For example, here is an example search I did in Google.

The "calorie based diet" input is a keyword. I searched for something that I was looking for and Google is going to provide me with the most relevant results (see below).

When I click on one of these results, I am taken to a website that has been "ranked" in Google. If I purchase something from that page or click an ad, that website owner will make money as a result.

With your SEO and your keyword research efforts, your goal is going to be to building a list of relevant keywords to your niche, and then working to rank them in Google just like this.

There are literally MILLIONS of keywords in every niche, leading to incredible potential. And by being a member at Wealthy Affiliate and what you are going to learn here about proper "ranking techniques", you are going to have the competitive edge over your competition.

In this lesson you are going to be tasked to come up with a few "keywords" relevant to your website and your niche.

Each Post You Create Will Be Targeting a Keyword...

Moving forward, you are going to be building content on your website. Each page of content that you create will target a brand new keyword (and we will be showing you how).

This means that every page/post will have the opportunity to rank under that given keyword in Google and lead to you getting traffic.

100 posts = 100 target keywords = 100+ potential Google rankings.

This can and will lead to mass amounts of traffic and those that follow along with this training are going to see their traffic continue to go up with every "keyword targeted" page or post that they create on their website.

Remember, Google and other search engines exist because of CONTENT and if you can deliver quality content (that targets low competition keywords), you will be able to get great rankings!

I have created a video walk-through of this lesson called "Keyword Mastery - Keywords are the Foundation of Your Content" and I suggest you watch on keyword mastery. It is going to increase your comfort level with keywords by 100 fold!

Task 1: Perform 5 different searches using Jaaxy

Your next task is going to be performing 5 searches relevant to your niche using the Jaaxy Keyword Tool.

To access Jaaxy, you are going to simply click the "Research" tab within the top menu, as shown below.

This will open up the entire Jaaxy platform, which is a highly sophisticated research platform that you have access to here at Wealthy Affiliate.

To access the keyword research platform, you will do so through the "Keywords" tab once inside Jaaxy (as shown below).

My suggestion with your initial searches is to start broad with a few of your searches (ie. two or three word searches). For example if your niche was "calorie based diets", you might want to start with the search terms:

  • calorie counting
  • calorie diets
  • how to count calories
  • etc

Here is an example search that I did using the "calorie counting" as the search phrase.

As you can see there are several columns of "keyword data". These are all very important when it comes to choosing keywords that are going to be useful to you.

  • Keyword. This is the search phrase that the data to the right of it is representing.
  • Avg. This is the overall monthly traffic this search term gets, globally.
  • Traffic. This is the estimated amount of traffic you will get if you rank on the first page of Google under this term.
  • QSR. Known as Quoted Search Results, this is the exact number of results in Google that you are competing with under this search phrase. In other words, this is how much competition you have.
  • KQI (Keyword Quality Indicator). This is a quick indicator on the keyword viability and quality based on all of the combined metrics.

If you do a search and you don't see the full data, you simply need to click the "Get QSR" link and it will fetch the data for you. You will see that if that particular keyword has never been searched before.

**Note: If you are a Premium Plus+ member, you have access to Jaaxy Enterprise which provides INSTANT QSR results.

Next, I want to discuss how to "choose" appropriate keywords for your content. This is critical in terms of getting ranked in Google and being the most efficient with your time. Don't worry though, it isn't all that complex. :)

The Rules of a Quality Keyword

There are a few rules that you need to follow

Rule #1: More than 30 monthly searches. You want your far left "Avg" column to ideally be greater than 30. Sometimes it is OK to go with a search volume less than this, but over 30 searches per month is ideal.

Rule #2: Less than 100 QSR (Competition). You want to keep your competition below 100 pages in Google, the lower the better though obviously. You will likely come across many terms with less than 100 QSR when doing your research, and that is even better!

As you progress with your website, under 200 is perfectly fine as you will be gaining more authority and better ranks in search engines.

Rule #3: Keyword must make sense. This is critically important. If the keyword doesn't make grammatical sense, don't use it. Do another search on the keyword that makes sense as that will likely give you different data and that is the data you want to measure.

An example of this is "best tips lose belly fat" which doesn't make grammatical sense (it is missing the "to"). I would do another search on this but this time "best tips to lose belly fat".

Do this exact process within your niche to come up with 5 Keywords. If you have any questions about the keyword research proces, please leave them in the comments below. :)

Important Note: As a Premium member here you not only get access UNLIMITED keyword searches using Jaaxy, you get many more features that are available within Jaaxy. These include more SiteRank scans, faster results, domain search affiliate program search and much more. Jaaxy Lite is 100% Included when you upgrade to Premium.

Go Premium and Get Jaaxy Lite (& Unlimited Searches)!

Tasks 0/3 completed
2. Perform at Least 5 Searches Using Jaaxy (do as many as you want though)
3. Find 5 Keywords that meet the keyword criteria (related to niche, 30 avg searches, less than 100 competition)

Hi everyone,

I want to change the Meta Title on my website, but for some reason I cannot change the whole thing. It says "Just another WordPress site" at the end of my title. Because of that it doesn't allow me to enter the full title. Can I do something to change it?

Yes you can change your site description and remove the "just another..."

go to your website backoffice
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites

scroll down to Settings (Not SEO tab) -> General -> site description (site tagline, meta description). Be sure to clear out the trailing wording. Save and refresh your browser (F5) and you can also "refresh" your website view.

Hello, I am currently at Lesson 8 of Level one. I have two important questions : I'd like to know if I am supposed to have achieved something already (I mean work) , or I am in a general scope to understand what will come next later and get to it. 2) I want to know how can I have support one on one ? Is that possible ? I hate making questions and when I get the answer this jumps to a next question and on an on ... Is there a support where you can actually chat with someone ?

Hi Kyle, I'm confused about websites and niches. So for every niche you have is that a separate website. For example if I want to sell kitchen products. Would i have one website for silverware and another for blenders?
Thanks ahead for any info you can pass my way.
Laura

That's correct, only one niche per website. You can always expand it later.

Hey thanks for your answer. I have another question pertaining to niches. For example if I wanted to sell kitchen products, would silverware be one website and blenders another website?
Sorry trying to workout my confusion.
Thanks!

Hi - yes, but remember, a niche is not a product. It is a subject you can help a targeted audience with.

So, you could have juicing for beginners or cooking for vegetarian teens or how to organize a small kitchen etc.

You could then promote different products, as long as they relate to the main niche.

You are not setting up a shop, you will have to write lots of articles to help people.

Hey thanks for your reply. Now I'm even more confused. In the lesson on making money, Kyle used an example of someone who sells Football Snack Helmets and that is the name of his website. It's not really a subject but a product. So again what exactly is a niche?
Sorry for my confusion. Thanks for any clarification.

ONE niche, a website. Products and programs can be varied however all must be relevant to the niche.

Also a niche is subject vs a product.

For example
Asian cooking techniques for vegans.

A niche subject is something you are passionate and genuinely interested in could be a hobby or an interest, and know so well you can write plenty original content about.

When deciding on a niche try narrow it down to a more specific niche, you can ask yourself the following question:

So I want to help people with ____________________ ?

Fill in the blank and you are going to get closer to a specific audience.

Its great to see you have an interest in kitchen products. As you think about products remember it is people are are writing content for and helping people. So an easier way to think of this is to think of a targeted group of people you wish to help because you will be writing content to help them and your content will not always be about specific products. For example, let's say you want to help the working mom who does not have a lot of time to cook but want her family to eat great tasting meats. You would have a specific audience you are trying to help. And you can write content ideas plus offer product suggests by doing comparisons and reviews. .To decide who your targeted audience is first and how you want to help them and problems you want to solve for them. That way you will get a following for you website.

Choose the audience and focus that you are most passionate about. The more knowledge you have and experience you have in what you choose the better because it doesn't take as much research time. That is not a requirement just a thought.

Yes, Jay did create the website football snack helmets which appears to be musty products though he did add football team into to each product. We attended his webinar as he created it.
Jay is very experienced in affiliate marketing (over 15 years so can do some different th8ings) but if you want your website to grow traffic and make sales you will not follow this approach.

The best approach is to choose an audience and help them with a lot of original content posts (informational and transactional) but Jay is now recommending around 70% of your niche website posts should be informational. (how to, guides, What is, Why) you can use answersocartes.com to find questions people as about your niche idea as well as googles "people also ask"
section below browser searches. . .

This is what I'm confused about as well. If my niche is making the busy's mom life easier, would I be able to use the same domain for all products I believe can add value and freedom back into their life? Like could I do hacks for keeping a clean house with minimal effort and have tools/products that could make help? EX. here's this air fryer on Amazon and maybe put in a PDF download for the top 5 healthy recipes families love or something. Then I could also have other content that's not related to cooking but is related to making the busy mama's life easier? EX. products for kid proofing your house or something?
Reply
jghwebbrand Premium
Yes, uou can have the purpose of your website be making the busy mom's life easier and then focus on various ways one category or type at a time. So if its cleaning the house focus on that writing several posts on it - answering questions and solving problems and then introducing products.. Jay, WAs webinar instructor suggests somewhere around 70% informational posts (how to, guides, definitions, tips) and 30% commercial intent. You can find questions people ask using answersocrates.com. By having several articles you will keep your audience coming back and not wanting to click away to another site. This grows authority and trust for your site. Then you can move on to another related focus..

I'm reading a lot of comments saying "it will take time to make any money" and "it's very unlikely to make enough money in the first month to pay for the second month" etc. which leads me to question does anybody actually make any money at all from the siterubix sites or do they all just run through the process, upgrade, port the site across to an owned domain and profit from there? That is a question that comes from fear (i guess) and what lies beneath it (but not far beneath) is another question. Does anyone learn enough from the starter membership to make money or does it just hook you into the potential of the possible existence of chance that you can do it and you upgrade and blow your budget learning and never quite have enough to make a go of it? I'm not sure these are real questions but I'm sure people have been where I am and been burned (gone away, recovered and come back to some similar effort to be burned again and again.) If the free stuff convinces me I need more but leaves me ultimately unsatisfied/unconvinced, does the paid stuff tell me I need more too? Sorry I'm reaching I know...

Absolutely. There's many folks here who make money.

Well if you are serious about building an online business, it is no brainer to upgrade to a premium.

You can learn loads absolutely. For the first seven days you can test drive the Wealthy Affiliate platform limited premium access to see if it fits with your business needs and objectives.

As ask as many questions as you like to get clarifications exactly like what you are doing right now.

Other options are available too, you could remain a Wealthy Affiliate starter indefinitely and your siterubix subdomain remains valid for six months from day signing up to the platform, giving you time to build content.

However the learning curve would be steeper as communications with the Wealthy Affiliate platform ceases up in 7 days from time signing up, you will not have access to coaching and sound advice.

As and when you decide to become a Wealthy Affiliate Premium, your first month would be $19 then $49 monthly afterwards

Or $49 first month then $99 monthly afterwards for premium plus +

Hello from Nottingham! Well, you have obviously read some of my responses to other members' questions. And I prefer to be honest.

If you have absolutely no knowledge of building a website, writing content that converts to sales, and affiliate marketing, then it is practically impossible to make any money from the free membership.

One of the biggest hindrances to success is the lack of ability to communicate after your first 7 days, to ask questions and you have no access to Technical Support either if you have a problem with your website. Basically, you are on your own and will have to research everything yourself.

And another drawback that is not often mentioned, is that the free website you are given is limited to 1,000 visitors per month. That is nowhere near enough to make a sustainable, decent income.

As a premium member, you have unlimited support, and access to hundreds of lessons and hundreds of webinars. However, that alone is not enough to guarantee success.

The business model as taught here is not a "set it and forget it" plan. You will have to be prepared to write as much original content as you can on your chosen niche subject, with nothing copied. Every single week, even in years to come. Eventually, you will have written hundreds of articles for your website.

Most people give up after 3 months, maybe 6 months, as even with the premium membership, you are unlikely to see any income before then. Google needs to see you are in this for the long term and that you have established yourself as an authority on your subject.

Sorry, I have rambled on a bit! But what it boils down to, is the question of are you prepared to write article after article for the foreseeable future?

Hi Trev,

Remember the definition of F.E.A.R. (False Evidence Appearing Real).

There’s really no need to fear. Though, there is a need to work hard at anything, if you want to succeed.

Do you know of any successful businesses that were built overnight, or in one month, or three months, or even in a year? On average it takes at least five years to build a solid business foundation. In other words, every business takes time to succeed. For success is not a destination, it’s a daily process. The more you proceed to build your business, the more successful you become. It’s when you allow negative thoughts to intervene and block your success, is when you fail.

Remember too, I can’t and you can’t and nobody I know can spell success without a “u.” So, decide to dedicate yourself to a daily successful busy by setting daily goals, plugging into the WA trainings daily, and writing posts daily and, I’ll meet you on the other side of success!

Blessings to you & yours,

Kathy🦋

Great questions here.
The real purpose for the Free Starter training is to let you try the Paid premium membership so you know what it offers without investing first. It also gives you an idea of who this works and if it is something you wish to pursue further.

How soon you earn money is dependent upon may factors. For someone starring with no experience it usually takes longer but then it also depends on how easily the training is understood and applied to your online business.

It takes work and doesn't happen magically.

Since you are still within your first 7 days, click on some of the menu tabs. see what's in them Do a search on some terms and see what comes up. There is both formal training and one weekly webinar by Jay, the WA training.

Until recently, now Premium Plus membership also exists with more training from those WA members who are Super Achievers, this is the learning system that we all have used. Many have made over one mullion already. Do a menu bar search "success stories" . There is no way to predict how you will, but the training, tools and support needed are here.

Hi Trev01.

I am new and cero experience within the affiliate marketing world. I understand your fear, I feel the same way some time.

This is the think, the $49 per month will be less than the monthly subscription of a gym membership. This will be like an investment for your future business.

If you don't expect unrealistic quick results you must likely won't be disappointed. I think we need to be patience. Realistically it will take time.

I wish you well and best of luck.
