You have likely heard the term "keyword research". This is the act of finding keyword phrases that are relevant to your niche and deciding whether or not it is appropriate to build content around that particular keyword.

Keywords are going to be the “root” of all your SEO success.

First Off, WHAT IS A KEYWORD?

A keyword is simply a word or phrase that people search for in the search engines. Every time you do a google search you are entering a "keyword" into the search box.

For example, here is an example search I did in Google.

The "calorie based diet" input is a keyword. I searched for something that I was looking for and Google is going to provide me with the most relevant results (see below).

When I click on one of these results, I am taken to a website that has been "ranked" in Google. If I purchase something from that page or click an ad, that website owner will make money as a result.

With your SEO and your keyword research efforts, your goal is going to be to building a list of relevant keywords to your niche, and then working to rank them in Google just like this.

There are literally MILLIONS of keywords in every niche, leading to incredible potential. And by being a member at Wealthy Affiliate and what you are going to learn here about proper "ranking techniques", you are going to have the competitive edge over your competition.

In this lesson you are going to be tasked to come up with a few "keywords" relevant to your website and your niche.

Each Post You Create Will Be Targeting a Keyword...

Moving forward, you are going to be building content on your website. Each page of content that you create will target a brand new keyword (and we will be showing you how).

This means that every page/post will have the opportunity to rank under that given keyword in Google and lead to you getting traffic.

100 posts = 100 target keywords = 100+ potential Google rankings.

This can and will lead to mass amounts of traffic and those that follow along with this training are going to see their traffic continue to go up with every "keyword targeted" page or post that they create on their website.

Remember, Google and other search engines exist because of CONTENT and if you can deliver quality content (that targets low competition keywords), you will be able to get great rankings!

I have created a video walk-through of this lesson called "Keyword Mastery - Keywords are the Foundation of Your Content" and I suggest you watch on keyword mastery. It is going to increase your comfort level with keywords by 100 fold!

Task 1: Perform 5 different searches using Jaaxy

Your next task is going to be performing 5 searches relevant to your niche using the Jaaxy Keyword Tool.

To access Jaaxy, you are going to simply click the "Research" tab within the top menu, as shown below.

This will open up the entire Jaaxy platform, which is a highly sophisticated research platform that you have access to here at Wealthy Affiliate.

To access the keyword research platform, you will do so through the "Keywords" tab once inside Jaaxy (as shown below).

My suggestion with your initial searches is to start broad with a few of your searches (ie. two or three word searches). For example if your niche was "calorie based diets", you might want to start with the search terms:

  • calorie counting
  • calorie diets
  • how to count calories
  • etc

Here is an example search that I did using the "calorie counting" as the search phrase.

As you can see there are several columns of "keyword data". These are all very important when it comes to choosing keywords that are going to be useful to you.

  • Keyword. This is the search phrase that the data to the right of it is representing.
  • Avg. This is the overall monthly traffic this search term gets, globally.
  • Traffic. This is the estimated amount of traffic you will get if you rank on the first page of Google under this term.
  • QSR. Known as Quoted Search Results, this is the exact number of results in Google that you are competing with under this search phrase. In other words, this is how much competition you have.
  • KQI (Keyword Quality Indicator). This is a quick indicator on the keyword viability and quality based on all of the combined metrics.

If you do a search and you don't see the full data, you simply need to click the "Get QSR" link and it will fetch the data for you. You will see that if that particular keyword has never been searched before.

**Note: If you are a Premium Plus+ member, you have access to Jaaxy Enterprise which provides INSTANT QSR results.

Next, I want to discuss how to "choose" appropriate keywords for your content. This is critical in terms of getting ranked in Google and being the most efficient with your time. Don't worry though, it isn't all that complex. :)

The Rules of a Quality Keyword

There are a few rules that you need to follow

Rule #1: More than 30 monthly searches. You want your far left "Avg" column to ideally be greater than 30. Sometimes it is OK to go with a search volume less than this, but over 30 searches per month is ideal.

Rule #2: Less than 100 QSR (Competition). You want to keep your competition below 100 pages in Google, the lower the better though obviously. You will likely come across many terms with less than 100 QSR when doing your research, and that is even better!

As you progress with your website, under 200 is perfectly fine as you will be gaining more authority and better ranks in search engines.

Rule #3: Keyword must make sense. This is critically important. If the keyword doesn't make grammatical sense, don't use it. Do another search on the keyword that makes sense as that will likely give you different data and that is the data you want to measure.

An example of this is "best tips lose belly fat" which doesn't make grammatical sense (it is missing the "to"). I would do another search on this but this time "best tips to lose belly fat".

Do this exact process within your niche to come up with 5 Keywords. If you have any questions about the keyword research proces, please leave them in the comments below. :)

Important Note: As a Premium member here you not only get access UNLIMITED keyword searches using Jaaxy, you get many more features that are available within Jaaxy. These include more SiteRank scans, faster results, domain search affiliate program search and much more. Jaaxy Lite is 100% Included when you upgrade to Premium.

Go Premium and Get Jaaxy Lite (& Unlimited Searches)!

Tasks 0/3 completed
2. Perform at Least 5 Searches Using Jaaxy (do as many as you want though)
3. Find 5 Keywords that meet the keyword criteria (related to niche, 30 avg searches, less than 100 competition)

As a premium member I would like to build a website where I have more options and control rather than the free website option here. I just need to clarify one thing regarding the other 2 options. The second option is for people who already purchased other domain outside wealthy affiliate? Meaning if I want a better website and more options and I never had a website before, I can choose only the third options? Am I correct? Thank you for your help in advance 🙏

you don't have to buy outside of wa ...if you click on websites and then sitedomains then you can buy a domain from there...
what do you mean by more options and control on your site...
if you are looking at more control of the styling then that is down to the theme on your site....
more control, like a cpanel... nope this is managed hosting and what you see in sitemanager is all you get whether on a siterubix or a domain you own...
be aware that sitedomains can only offer com, org and net ...if you want a country specific you will need to search outside wa...
good luck

The first option is for people who want to build a free website on a sub-domain.

The second option is for people who already purchased a domain INSIDE Wealthy Affiliate and now want to activate it and build a website.

The third option is to buy your own domain through Wealthy Affiliate and include it into your hosting package that is included with a Premium membership.

In your case, you want to choose the third option (Register a Domain) 👍

The real issue is free domain name vs paid domain name. WA offers both. WA gives you a free domain website to start with so your can learn how this works without obligation.

A WA Paid Domain Name gives you the freedom to choose your own WP theme and Design your domain name website as you choose.

Where you buy your domain name has no influence on freedom WA gives you complete freedom to design your paid domain name websites as you choose. WA gives you the same freedom as any third party domain name registrar unless a third part registrar gives you a hard time in pointing the DataName Servers to WA hosting..

The issue is free domain website vs Paid domain name website.
We see you are a Paid Premium member so would recommend you purchase your domain name from WA and let them be your domain name registrar the cost to purchase a Domain name through WA is very competitive and ends up being cheaper than those who offer a first year discount.

Buying a domain name through WA gives you ultimate freedom to build your website. - You chose the Wordpress theme, design, features and affiliate programs.

Thank you for clarifying that. So basically you are saying to choose option 3? That's what I thought as I don't see the point to go down on any independent road if I'm already a member of this community and they offer everything I need, I just wasn't sure which option is this.

Kind regards

Thanks Ivan. That means my option is only the third one if I want more features themes etc but not having any domain purchased yet from WA.
I looked into the themes and it's so many, really overwhelming. I don't even know what to choose at this stage. Even if I have a niche I haven't figured out yet the content so I'm not sure how I should choose.

go for a popular one ... personally i would advise blocksy for a free theme or if you are going to pay for a premium one a lot go for generatepress....
but maybe start with blocksy and see how you get on
anothre is kadence...
but keep it plain and get content on there..3 0or so articles then come back and think about tyling it...not the other way around ...that way google can work on your site and it doesn't care ( too much) about how you style it....
and you can start getting visitors looking for your content...

Hi

You can however starting out you need to get a head start on adding content as it is the bulk of our sites and takes the longest to get noticed and ranked in the search engines.

You may start with a siterubix subdomain around a focused niche and build up content and until you are satisfied with your niche and name, down the line have your own dot com, as some affiliate programs do not work with a subdomain. Cost of which is $15 yearly each privacy included. You can then move your siterubix to your dot com applying the move feature found within the site manager which is an easy process.

However if you already own domain and has content on it, you need reach out to support for further instructions how to migrate site to WA servers.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support

Third option if you want to register a new domain with WA, hosting is included with your premium subscription to the platform.

You can use leandomainsearch dot com, you input a word and it gives you another

And a godaddy valuation tool to find a memorable name.

However nowadays domains are not so affected by SEO vs writing quality rich content with good choice of keywords, latter of which would rank you in the search engines.

I would always go for a dot com domain name vs dot net or dot org as people's perceptions when they start typing they would typically assume it is a dot com. And make sure it is spelled correctly as it cannot be edited once purchased.

I would not include dashes and check if the domain is copyrighted, trademarked and ' or registered to an established business.

You can use Jaaxy fo find something suitable and along the metrics would also search if the dot com domain is available

Look for searches (avg.) above 30 and competition (qsr. ) lower than 100, the lower the qsr the better. Starter sites SEO greater than 95.

As for theme options,

The majority here uses the GeneratePress theme.

GeneratePress (or so a theme) is extremely light, fast, well coded, SEO optimised, flexible, adaptable and customisable

Or you may try

Kadence WP with Kadence blocks

The Affiliate Bootcamp, the make money online niche you ought to choose a target audience, folks who resonate with you and can build rapport and connect with through the creation of your content However, we always recommend starting out with own niche vs the Affiliate Bootcamp (make money online niche) as the latter is a lot harder and more competitive, you would need to write 300 to 400 articles before you are able scratch the surface. (vs. 100 articles own niche)

You'd also need to do the whole Bootcamp in its entirety before you can commence with your site.

Recommendation is to focus on ONE niche at a time, even Kyle himself would recommend the same.

If you need some tips on choosing a niche for the website you wished to build, here are some tips (lesson 3)

A niche is something you feel super excited to write about, a skill you have attained, something that resonates with you. You will want to be focused on one niche. What is it that you want to help a group of people with or what problem do you want to help them solve (group could be age, gender, location, experience level, degree or type of need, etc.)

A niche is not a product, it's a subject that you can help a target audience with. Remember, you are not setting up a shop (store), you will be writing lots of articles about your niche to help your targeted audience.

The importance of a targeted audience is that It's always better to target a specific niche with a specific solution to problems.

Kyles asks us to complete this statement.
'i want to help ____(group) with ______(problem)'

For example. I like camping.
Camping is a very broad topic with a lot of competition so to eliminate some competition in the beginning and to give my website has a chance to rank and grow in traffic, the focus needs to be a smaller scope.

For example my initial narrow scope could be: essential camping equipment for beginners. I can talk about camping, my experiences, what I have learned about camping, and how I have discovered what is really needed. Since I am quality focused, I have found good equipment which I believe is the very best. I will share my review of the equipment I use and why it is the best. Once the website is established and has a good volume of traffic, its scope can be expanded to include other things camping related.

So with my initial narrow scope, after visiting my website, a beginning camper will have a good idea of what camping is all about for a beginner and the equipment needed and the best brand products to buy. I will have many products on my niche website, but they will all relate to camping.

I am passionate about camping and want my readers to get excited about it too and feel comfortable when going for the first time that they have the necessary equipment..

So my niche is camping with an initial narrow scope. My targeted group is beginning campers wondering what equipment is needed and what the best is.

I have had some disappointing experiences so I want to help them avoid the same mistakes I have made. I will help campers buy the right equipment to make their camping experience more pleasant and safe.

I will write many content posts about camping (the how tos, what is, etc.). A beginner camper has no idea what kind of equipment is necessary. So I will write posts about the necessary equipment. I will choose products I can recommend. I will compare products and identify the best. So after visiting my website a beginning camper will have a good idea of what camping equipment is needed and the best brand products to buy. So I will have many products on my niche website, but they will all relate to camping equipment necessary for a pleasant and safe camping experience.

For an about me post, there's no minimum, you can write as many words as you like on your “About Me” post. I would elaborate as much as possible. This is the first contact your visitors have with your site, they want to know the founder, what's the site about, can they establish rapport and above all can they trust the site and is it content worthy and user experience friendly. What would be your USP (unique selling point) - Think of it when you walk in a store, what would you like to see and what would your first impression be. If it doesn't hold to your standards you'd leave, same with your about me page, if the visitor doesn't feel at ease, they will click away.

You can also promote WA on your About Me post if you were to choose your own interest / hobby niche. You may then include a paragraph middle of page or towards end, adding few features about the benefits of joining the WA platform and there you can hyperlink your own unique affiliate link which you can fetch via the $ sign top menu. If you happen to have created it as a page you can easily switch it back to a post by using the Post Type Switcher.

You may add that to your Plugins as you are a premium member.

In quick edit, you can select whether you want it a post or a page, and update changes. Hope this helps.

within the training at a higher level you are shown how to embed a video onto your page...
as a starter you can do this but it may slow your site down as you cannot add plugins to help delay the loading....
but to add the video you goto youtube and find the share button ...normally under the video...
click on that and then click on the embed video...
copy the code...
come back to your page and add ( click the + at hte top left) a html block...
paste the code in there and click preview and you will see hte video thumbnail...
when searching on google you probably have come across sites made by members, almost anything is possible...
try having a look at some of the sites in the comments thread have fun

Hi - although you can use a YouTube video on your website, you won't receive any compensation from the owner.

If a member wishes to share their website, it will be on their profile page, but you would have to be in their network to see it.

Or you can take a look at the comment request thread. To be honest, the websites built here are no different from any you might see on the internet.

In fact, you may have already seen some WA websites when doing a Google search but wouldn't see them as being any different from any other site.

Keep on rocking!

Yes. after your have the basics of your website set up and you have niche content posts added you can embed a YouTube video in your post. Youtube videos can be placed in your posts making sure the owner gets the credit and that is it Using someone else's Youtube video in your post will not give you the Youtube owners traffic. Some visitors may click to the Youtube owner's website, but the majority of the time they won't. Youtubes are a way to visualize what your post is addressing and are very effective.

As for WA members examples. Here are some of Kyles websites: realdealaffiate.com;
Jays, WA webinar instructor: standingworkplace.com and homesafetylab.com (just started).

I make sure the YouTube video is relevant and of good content, it has an embed share and as far proceeds no, however there's chance your visitors may click on it and watch it in YouTube, and follow the YouTuber who posted it.

Please also be aware that you cannot edit any part of the video, you'd have to share it as is.

To view other peoples' work, same as the others have mentioned, however more I would go to Google and insert

The other one is music, and I`d like some advice here on what would be the easiest to market. Instruments and accessories or ablums and LPs as many people have started getting into record collection again.

some advice would be great.

Hi

The question is WHO would be your target audience vs Not what you are selling to an audience.

You need aim for ONE focused niche with a specific group of people, I'd go with what's best resonates with me.

The recommendation is to focus on ONE site starting out as it takes lots of effort and work get it going, however once you know what you are doing, then the learning curve would be less steeper to scale up.

That's a great niche to be in however broad you may want to narrow it down to a subcategory starting out, otherwise you will find it very hard to get noticed by the search engines and to compete with big authority sites. Target audience is important too, who would you be writing to, once you are able to identify them, you are closer to finding a focused niche.

Once a site starts gaining traction, traffic and authority you can then scale to cover another subcategory.

See example blog post below A niche subject is something you are passionate and genuinely interested in could be a hobby or an interest, and know so well you can write plenty original content about.

ONE niche, a website. Products and programs can be varied however all must be relevant to the niche.

You may consult with https://answersocrates.com/ for further research into finding a subcategory starting out. You can search what real people are asking as in Questions, Prepositions, Comparisons, in the past, letters and query. It is also great if someone wants to write a thorough research based article.

For example if you are in fitness
Aerobic fitness techniques for beginners

https://blog.feedspot.com/fitness_blogs/

When deciding on a niche try narrow it down to a more specific niche, you can ask yourself the following question:

So I want to help people with ____________________ ?

Fill in the blank and you are going to get closer to a specific audience. Your niche research:-

Questions People are Asking
How to Solutions
Resources Within the Niche
Products You Can Promote/Review
Affiliate Programs
Products
Top Authority Sites/Competitors
Low Competition Keywords

Which one of your interests are you most passionate about? And have the most knowledge about and want to help people with?

From our perspective Album collection is difficult because people have their own outlets where they purchase and want to see what they are buying - the condition and if it the original artist...

Doing something with jump ropes sounds promising.

So after you decide your focus it is important to identify the audience you with to help because you will be writing 100+ posts about your chosen niche.

Here are some general niche tips you can apply to your interests.
