You have likely heard the term "keyword research". This is the act of finding keyword phrases that are relevant to your niche and deciding whether or not it is appropriate to build content around that particular keyword.

Keywords are going to be the “root” of all your SEO success.

A keyword is simply a word or phrase that people search for in the search engines. Every time you do a google search you are entering a "keyword" into the search box.

For example, here is an example search I did in Google.

This is a keyword. I searched for something that I was looking for and Google is going to provide me with the most relevant results (see below).

When I click on one of these results, I am taken to a website that has been "ranked" in Google. If I purchase something from that page or click an ad, that website owner will make money as a result.

With your SEO and your keyword research efforts, your goal is going to be to building a list of relevant keywords to your niche, and then working to rank them in Google just like this.

There are literally MILLIONS of keywords in every niche, leading to incredible potential. And by being a member at Wealthy Affiliate and what you are going to learn here about proper "ranking techniques", you are going to have the competitive edge over your competition.

In this lesson you are going to be tasked to come up with a few "keywords" relevant to your website and your niche.

Each Post You Create Will Be Targeting a Keyword...

Moving forward, you are going to be building content on your website. Each page of content that you create will target a brand new keyword (and we will be showing you how).

This means that every page/post will have the opportunity to rank under that given keyword in Google and lead to you getting traffic.

100 posts = 100 target keywords = 100+ potential Google rankings.

This can and will lead to mass amounts of traffic and those that follow along with this training are going to see their traffic continue to go up with every "keyword targeted" page or post that they create on their website.

Remember, Google and other search engines exist because of CONTENT and if you can deliver quality content (that targets low competition keywords), you will be able to get great rankings!

I have created a video walk-through of this lesson called "Keyword Mastery - Keywords are the Foundation of Your Success"and I suggest you watch on keyword mastery. It is going to increase your comfort level with keywords by 100 fold!

Task 1: Perform 5 different searches using

Your next task is going to be performing 5 searches relevant to your niche using the Jaaxy Keyword Tool.

There is a quick search feature available to you right within the Jaaxy menu. You simply click on the menu and it will pop up the submenu, with the search available right within it.

You can see I have entered "increase vertical jump" into the search (as shown below).

My suggestion is to start broad with a few of your searches (ie. two or three word searches). For example if your niche was "basketball skills & drills", you might want to start with the search terms:

  • basketball drills
  • basketball skills
  • increase vertical jump
  • dribbling drills
  • etc

After performing the search, you will simply want to click the "magnifying glass" icon or press enter on your keyboard.

Here are how the search results look for the "increase vertical jump" search.

As you can see there are several columns of "keyword data". These are all very important when it comes to choosing keywords that are going to be useful to you.

  • Keyword. This is the search phrase that the data to the right of it is representing.
  • Avg. This is the overall monthly traffic this search term gets, globally.
  • Traffic. This is the estimated amount of traffic you will get if you rank on the first page of Google under this term.
  • QSR. Known as Quoted Search Results, this is the exact number of results in Google that you are competing with under this search phrase. In other words, this is how much competition you have.
  • KQI (Keyword Quality Indicator)

If you do a search and you don't see the full data, you simply need to click the "Get QSR" link and it will fetch the data for you. You will see that if that particular keyword has never been searched before.

Next, I want to discuss how to "choose" appropriate keywords for your content. This is critical in terms of getting ranked in Google and being the most efficient with your time. Don't worry though, it isn't all that complex. :)

The Rules of a Quality Keyword

There are a few rules that you need to follow

Rule #1: More than 30 monthly searches. You want your far left "Avg" column to ideally be greater than 30. Sometimes it is OK to go with a search volume less than this, but over 30 searches per month is ideal.

Rule #2: Less than 100 QSR (Competition). You want to keep your competition below 100 pages in Google, the lower the better though obviously. You will likely come across many terms with less than 100 QSR when doing your research, and that is even better!

As you progress with your website, under 200 is perfectly fine as you will be gaining more authority and better ranks in search engines.

Rule #3: Keyword must make sense. This is critically important. If the keyword doesn't make grammatical sense, don't use it. Do another search on the keyword that makes sense as that will likely give you different data and that is the data you want to measure.

An example of this is "best tips lose belly fat" which doesn't make grammatical sense (it is missing the "to"). I would do another search on this but this time "best tips to lose belly fat".

Do this exact process within your niche to come up with 5 Keywords. If you have any questions about the keyword research proces, please leave them in the comments below. :)

I need assistance with the Privacy Policy. Rather than having "Privacy Policy" as a title in my top navigation bar, it shows the first several words of the body text... "In 2015, the Federal Trade Commission..." I tried to update it myself but I'm having no luck. I'd appreciate your guidance and suggestions.
JosephRebisz Premium
Actually, that one is the affiliate disclosure. Is that what you meant? There is a template for the privacy policy in site content as well, where all you have to do is insert your domain in wherever it says 'your site'.
DianeScorpio Premium
Hi - have you actually put the title in the box above the post? If not, then it will use the beginning of the post as the title. And remember, once it's published, you can't make any changes in Site Content. All editing has to be done in WordPress.

Try to work on it by going to your widget, you will find the way out there

if I want to add a Landing Page, or a Sales Funnel, will I need to purchase an app like ClickFunnels, or does WA provide that functionality, within its membership? Likewise, if I want to add an auto-email responder, will I need to purchase an app like Aweber, or does WA provide that functionality, with the membership?
feigner Premium
there are plugins to collect emails - which you can then send newsletters or promotions via a plugin.
a landing page is just a page with only two options - to complete the call to action or leave -this can be done in wordpress on some themes or with a plugin....
the auto responder would need to be sourced externally - but there are some free otions for small lists.
just be careful with matching the autoresponder up with your niche - some don't like make money online niche....
good luck
i would put that off till you start getting traffic and concentrate on content
Chazz87g Premium
Just to be clear, are you saying, initially, I should just create and publish content, and NOT include lead magnets to capture email addresses?
feigner Premium
forgot to check that you are on a starter membership and cannot add in plugins to your site
i am saying that if you want to pay for an auto responder when no one is coming to your site then that is your choice....
but you obviously have a path you want to follow - i do wonder where your traffic wil lbe coming from with no other content on your site - unless you are paying for ads....
if you are going to pay for traffic then yes add the landing page and lead magnet to try to collect emails
but for most people at the start of their journey - getting organic traffic will take time - so concentrating on content wil be the best use of time....
Good question.

Okay, serious question. I have a couple big-time niches in mind that sort of share the top rank of my preferences:
- electronic music
- matcha
- self-education (online courses, ebooks, webinars etc.)

Because I need to pick one to start with, are there any other criteria I need to pick on, other than the list of things to do under the video? (like having to write content, communicating with the niche, choosing the right products / services to promote etc.)?

I hope this question makes sense to those reading this comment :) Thank you, regardless!
yevroma Premium

Self-education is quite a large niche and very competitive, there are some large companies already in this niche. If you'd like to stick with this, you definitely can but just expect a harder time. I'd recommend trying to narrow the self-education down into something more specific, like online courses in a particular field. That way, that you could also support the affiliate links, reviews, and sales with other engaging and relevant content that builds trust in you and your site.

Matcha sounds like a very solid niche if you plan to pursue it. A website for all things matcha is narrow enough that you would have a clear target audience rather than a broad range of people looking for self-help. You would be able to speak as an authority on matcha and of course get sales and visits from people keen to buy or discover matcha.

As for electronic music, I'm sorry I don't have much in the way of a recommendation for this as I'm not sure how you could monetize your website with it. Maybe some of the other more experienced folks on here would be give you some direction.

Best regards,

i know one and three are huge topics you would have to narrow down to make any headway in but in google trends - which one would you pick
would you look into whether there are any groups - yep
any forums containing it - yep
go through a quick search in google and see if ads come up - yep
just follow your nose - nope
create a content strategy- yep
find what is related to this [roduct- yep
find out why people drink it- yep....
i'm starting to get specific now....
try answerthepublic dot com to see questions people ask relating to the topics.
or ubersuggest or
and have a good look at google - look at the questions at thetop and the related searches at the bottom.
come up with a few categories for your niche
so don't pick the product itself but why you would use the product and then you can promote this and other prooducts....
don't pick a too health related reason - you will have a hard time with google ranking....
good luck

Pick the one you are most passionate about.

Oh wow, that's a freat deal of insights you gave! Will already start researching these aspects, because yeah - electronic muaic can be broken down into teaching it, or providing sounds, performance sets etc. Thank you for that, Phil!
HectorCryo Premium
That is very true. Given this, it is rather logical to tap into Matcha one first since it's narrow enough already! Thank you Yev :)
I hope if you don't mind..can I ask if how can you earn credits on this platform so that I can upgrade myself to premium? or how can I use my link to refer it to somebody I know? So that I can also help him. I hope you don't mind.
DianeScorpio Premium
Hi - as a starter member, you cannot earn any credits here. The only way to upgrade is to pay the subscription fee.

Your personal referral link can be found by clicking on the dollar symbol at the top of the page and clicking on links and tracking. You can email the link to your friend, and if they upgrade you can earn a commission.

Hi Princess, You can make money using other online opportunities first like on or (sell your services), an online job, or get a local job, and then come back to buy the Premium membership.

Or you can use your free account to use WA's affiliate program to earn by taking your affiliate link found on top menu under the $ icon > Links & Tracking, and go promote it on forums, social media, etc... However, you may find that most platforms don't allow affiliate links.

So, you'll need to put the affiliate link on your website, which you get one free with your free account. Go through the first 10 free lessons to get your free website.

Without Premium though, it'll be very hard for you to earn from your website as you won't know what to do with it to make it attract its own visitors, plus many other things you'll need to know about building this business.

I can tell you right now that this training is indeed worth it as I was able to have results like this recently: So, do as much as you can to earn $19 so you can pay for the first month here and earn more so you can pay for the second month which is $49. Building this online business takes time, so you need to have another source of income first before building this.

I hope this helps you,
That is what I wanted to do - earn the membership fee before applying for Premium. I do want to do Premium, but I don't have a lot of extra money to go Premium without earning it first.
Thank you, little mama. I will do exactly as that.. thank you very much. because of that will go for now and I will be back in a bit. Thank you again.. I hope you have a nice and blessed day ahead. ;)

Thanks for great video!

My website has an error, the 'e' didn't come out in the footer or the top left of my site, so it says, 'Th Age-Defying Vegan' instead of 'The'.

How do I correct this please? I can't find any 'footer modification' etc and I need to change the top left too,

Many thanks

feigner Premium
Hi Nikki - to change the title of your site go into the wordpress dashboard and click on settings general and you will find the title there.
the footer modification should be under appearance - customize and in there there should be footer...
but it may not be in that maybe in the site identity...or elsewhere.
the designers of these templates express their personalities in things they can alter and the customize menu structure is one of them....
best to look at the themes homepage for documentation on your particular theme
good luck
