At this stage of the course you should have your website created! Congratulations, this is a big accomplishment!

Looking back to 2002 when I started my career in Online Business it took me 30 days just to figure out how to build a website. There definitely weren't any platforms like the Website platform you have access to here. What takes 30 seconds now, took 30 days back then.

How things have changed!

In this lesson we are going to be walking you through the process of the initial website set-up. This includes the removal of "default" content that is installed with every website as well as a look around of the back office of your website.

Additionally, I am also going to be walking you through the activation of your "Plugins" and be walking you through the benefits of the plugins (feature extensions) that have been installed automatically with your website.

Below is a video walk-through showing you the process of setting up your website. Click play to watch the "Setting Up Your Niche Website - The Initial Steps" video below.

Task 1: Login Into Your Website Back Office

In order to do this, you need to log into your website. This is very easy to do and can be done using the "Log In!" button (as shown below).

This will automatically show you all your users you have associated with your website and from there you can log into your website.

No more need for manual logins and the passwords within your account are encrypted and secured using SiteRubix technology!

You can also find your website login details, username, and password within the Details link on your SiteManager dashboard.

Task 2: Activate and Update Your Plugins

After you login, you will see your Wordpress administration dashboard for your website (see below).

This may look completely foreign to you if you have never logged into a WordPress website before, but don't worry, you will get the hang of this and there is a ton of help here within the community to work you through any questions/issues you may run into.

Wordpress is the most powerful and widely used website platform in the world. It is used by over 30% of ALL websites (millions) and it also has a wide range of "add ons" known as plugins that you can use extend the functionality of your website.

When you install website here at WA we pre-install three of the most useful plugins with your website automatically and your first step is going to be activating these plugins.

You will see the All in One SEO plugin, which we will be setting up in the next lesson. This is a plugin that is going to help you get found and ranked by search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo.

You will also see the Classic Editor plugin, which is already activated. This gives you access to the classic editor when you upgrade and create posts within your back office, which is preferrable (in particular when getting started) to the new and more modular editor. It is going to make your life a lot easier and it is already set up for you so you have to do nothing from you end.

Lastly, the Kraken Image Optimization plugin is going to compress and optimize all of the images on your website automatically. This is really sophisticated and advanced platform that is going to lead to better website speeds, a better user experience, and better search engine rankings. This is already set-up optimally for you.

Task 3: Delete Default Posts, Pages and Comments

Every new Wordpress website that you install will come with "default" or dummy content that is added with every website install. You want to get rid of this content before you can start creating content that is relevant to your niche.

The first thing you want to do is delete the default post that is added with each website.

Click on the Posts button, within the side menu.

This will take you to the posts page where you will go to see a list of all the posts on your website. A post is simply a content page on your site (we will be explaining them in more detail later).

Simply "mouse over" the post area and it will reveal the post management buttons. You will want to then click the "Trash" button. This will delete the default "Hello World!" post.

Do the same with the "Pages" link as well. There may be a few different Pages, including the Privacy Policy page. You can delete all of these pages as we are going to be starting fresh with our own content and starting the build out process of this in upcoming lessons.

**Do note that there may not be both default Pages and Posts. If that is the case, just move on.

That is it for this lesson, nice work! You now have a live website that is set-up and ready to go. This is your own Internet "real estate". You will use this website to connect with your niche and ultimately earn revenue through. This website is your foundation for building a successful online business!

The next lesson we are going to be showing you how to get your website ready to rank in Google and other search engines!

If you have any questions about the set up of your website, please scroll down and leave them within the comments below.

Hi guys.
I'm having trouble understanding the choosing between the free domain and my own domain part. Firstly, I would assume I would pay for my own domain and not the other one. Is that correct? If so, how much? Secondly, why is it ideal to own a domain? Why not just continue on a free domain?

Hello Hugo, Joe here. Yes, you do have to pay for your own domain, but generally they run about $13-$14/year. Owning you own .com domain will get ranked faster with Google as it shows more authority. You have to build up a lot of content before you start getting ranked in Google, but it's worth the time and effort, in my opinion.
Good luck and best wishes on your success. We're here to help in any way you need, just ask.

your assumptions are correct about paying
the free one is the siterubix one which are owned by wa - ll the content on your site is yours ...but you cannot move it to another hosting company - so if you decide to part company and want to move your site...tough.
now if you purchase a domain, it is yours for as long as you pay the yearly fee for it - you can now move it to a new hosting company and it stays yours....
the cost - well here you will pay about $14 per year.... elsewhere you might see them for $0.99, but look at the next year and you will be charged $25.00 or so....
then you have the hassle of changing te nameservers to have it hosted here and then transferring the registrar so next year you pay wa....or just buy from sitedomains and it is already in your portfolio of sites - you can then use the one click move button to move all the content from your siterubix to your domain - they handle all the redirections and you get to work on your site again.....
but you can continue on a free siterubix site for as long as you want, but some affilaite programs won't accept subdomains, and google apparently doesn't rank subdomains as highly ( although i really have never found this to be a problem...)
good uck

Hi - as a premium member, you are given up to 10 free domains to use. They are actually subdomains, so they will end with the words siterubix.com, rather than .com.

If you wish to buy your own .com domain, it will cost $13.99 per year.

People are more likely to trust a .com domain, as they may not be familiar with seeing a siterubix website.

The siterubix domains are not your property, and if you ever leave WA, you can't take them with you, at some point they will be deleted. If you purchase a .com domain, it is yours to keep, even if you leave.

With a free domain, you can't have an email address associated with it. Some affiliate programs won't accept it, and Google AdSense definitely won't.

Most people start with a free domain, until they are confident they have chosen the right niche, because once you have bought a domain, its name can't be changed. Once you are ready to buy, it is a simple process to transfer all the content over from your free domain to the purchased one. You don't lose any of your work.

Hello,

Unfortunately, yes. You have to wait until Google found you. You'll be notified and you'll also get a G badge here at WA.

Have you posted your About Me and Privacy Policy page yet?
You'd probably want to post your first article too so your website can get indexed by Google.
Follow the training and you'll get there.

All the best,

Ferra

Hey guys I've decided to let my niche go in the direction of football/soccer. Not only because i love the sport but because not long ago i realised how big a part of the economy football is and that is genuinely one of the most sought after things in our time. Any tips on how to move forward from here?..

hey, first of all welcome to wealthy affiliate.
Soccer is a great niche. This is what my second website will be about...
You need to narrow it down into a specific targeted audience. Who is your targeted audience ? How do you want to help ? is it by giving information on latter news, players biography etc.

Answer those questions will help you define your sub niche.

Also, what products do you want to promote after etc ?

Once you have figured out this, then keep going with the training.

I hope this help.

Already I feel a lot of comfort and confidence in seeing so many people interacting and communicating so freely and in a friendly tone. I know I've come to the right place. I still regard myself as a newbie at online marketing so I will be dropping in now and then to our gret helpers for this lesson. Again, a big "Hello" and great to be here

I am a newbie to online marketing, too. We can only go up from here. With a community such as WA, our chances of getting up when we fall and going over the hurdles look encouraging and doable as long as we are doing our part. Stay the course and take one step at a time!

I just added my about me page and the privacy policy to my page.
So excited.
I would love if I could get some feed back on it though. I am not a writer, and I have been told that I am a piece when it comes to writing lol, so if you have a second, I would be so honored to hear your feedback.
Thank you so much for your time

I read your page and I love the content. It is really touching and got a warm feeling in my heart when I read it. The only thing you need to change are the headlines of each paragraph to suit the content of each paragraph. You should not leave the headlines as they are.

Instead of leaving it as "your story", you can change it to 'my life story", and same with all the other headlines. Instead of "why you want to help people" just change it to something like "my passion to helping people" if it makes sense.

Great job so far

Honestly the content of your writing is very good, The way i would go about improving your writing is with compound sentences. Sentence structure is something that is very easy to learn, and once you apply it to your writing it will become second nature in no time.

Some Basic Ideas that you could go into further research on are these.
Compound Sentence: A sentence that consist of 2 or more independent clauses.
Complex Sentence: A sentence that consist of one or more independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses.

A clause basically completes a thought in a sentence.
Subject+ a Verb
A dependent clause is not complete on its own but adds on to an independent clause.
There a couple others and honestly they are pretty easy concepts to grasp once you've seen a few examples.
Also you don't need to worry about having perfect grammar or writing skills. Most people are not Masters in the art of Grammar and writing. These are just a few simple tricks that can take your writing to the next level.

I wish you luck, and hope this helped.

Hello Aaron,
Thank you for the kind words. I am a virgin here at blogging and creating a website. Not to mention, my writing skills leaves a lot to be desired, but I am a work in progress. :)

I applaud you for the strength you have inspite of the physical challenges you have and your optimistic atittude about life as evidenced in your love of capturing the natural beauty around you through your eyes and the lens of your camera. Just a couple of thoughts/suggestions on your post...: Did you mean "Pain" instead of "Paine"? Some apostrophes are not needed as in "father's" and "son's". I would suggest that you use "inexpensive" instead of "cheap"! Keep capturing the beauty of nature! Much success to you!
