At this stage of the course you should have your website created! Congratulations, this is a big accomplishment!

Looking back to 2002 when I started my career in Online Business it took me 30 days just to figure out how to build a website. There definitely weren't any platforms like the Website platform you have access to here. What takes 30 seconds now, took 30 days back then.

How things have changed!

In this lesson we are going to be walking you through the process of the initial website set-up. This includes the removal of "default" content that is installed with every website as well as a look around of the back office of your website.

Additionally, I am also going to be walking you through the activation of your "Plugins" and be walking you through the benefits of the plugins (feature extensions) that have been installed automatically with your website.

Below is a video walk-through showing you the process of setting up your website. Click play to watch the "Setting Up Your Niche Website - The Initial Steps" video below.

Task 1: Login Into Your Website Back Office

In order to do this, you need to log into your website. This is very easy to do and can be done using the "Log In!" button (as shown below).

This will automatically show you all your users you have associated with your website and from there you can log into your website.

No more need for manual logins and the passwords within your account are encrypted and secured using SiteRubix technology!

You can also find your website login details, username, and password within the Details link on your SiteManager dashboard.

Task 2: Activate and Update Your Plugins

After you login, you will see your Wordpress administration dashboard for your website (see below).

This may look completely foreign to you if you have never logged into a WordPress website before, but don't worry, you will get the hang of this and there is a ton of help here within the community to work you through any questions/issues you may run into.

Wordpress is the most powerful and widely used website platform in the world. It is used by over 30% of ALL websites (millions) and it also has a wide range of "add ons" known as plugins that you can use extend the functionality of your website.

When you install website here at WA we pre-install three of the most useful plugins with your website automatically and your first step is going to be activating these plugins.

You will see the All in One SEO plugin, which we will be setting up in the next lesson. This is a plugin that is going to help you get found and ranked by search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo.

You will also see the Classic Editor plugin, which is already activated. This gives you access to the classic editor when you upgrade and create posts within your back office, which is preferrable (in particular when getting started) to the new and more modular editor. It is going to make your life a lot easier and it is already set up for you so you have to do nothing from you end.

Lastly, the Kraken Image Optimization plugin is going to compress and optimize all of the images on your website automatically. This is really sophisticated and advanced platform that is going to lead to better website speeds, a better user experience, and better search engine rankings. This is already set-up optimally for you.

Task 3: Delete Default Posts, Pages and Comments

Every new Wordpress website that you install will come with "default" or dummy content that is added with every website install. You want to get rid of this content before you can start creating content that is relevant to your niche.

The first thing you want to do is delete the default post that is added with each website.

Click on the Posts button, within the side menu.

This will take you to the posts page where you will go to see a list of all the posts on your website. A post is simply a content page on your site (we will be explaining them in more detail later).

Simply "mouse over" the post area and it will reveal the post management buttons. You will want to then click the "Trash" button. This will delete the default "Hello World!" post.

Do the same with the "Pages" link as well. There may be a few different Pages, including the Privacy Policy page. You can delete all of these pages as we are going to be starting fresh with our own content and starting the build out process of this in upcoming lessons.

**Do note that there may not be both default Pages and Posts. If that is the case, just move on.

That is it for this lesson, nice work! You now have a live website that is set-up and ready to go. This is your own Internet "real estate". You will use this website to connect with your niche and ultimately earn revenue through. This website is your foundation for building a successful online business!

The next lesson we are going to be showing you how to get your website ready to rank in Google and other search engines!

If you have any questions about the set up of your website, please scroll down and leave them within the comments below.

Affiliate links question!

If I would have an affiliate link on my website too, let's say an amazon product, will I only get paid if the customer buys the product the first time he goes to that affiliate page? Or could the customer log off and then come back to the affiliate page weeks later and buy and I would still get the money?

Most affiliate programs have a period that your cookies that tell them the visitor came from your site, but every affiliate program usually is a little different.

Another thing you are going to like even if they don't buy the product on your site but use your link to get to the affiliate site and purchase a completely different product you will get credit so if you get lucky and they spend a big chunk of money from your link you will earn more money

Choosing affiliate programs that pay 15% commission and higher is what I recommend if you are serious about earning as much money as you possibly can, so don't join the first program until you shop around for the highest paying programs within the niche you choose

I hope this helps

It doesn't matter when that person buys the product. As long as they go to the Amazon website through your affiliate link and complete the purchase within 24 hours of entering via your link, you will get the commission.

Good to see your hard at work there, Alexander.
Amazon has a 24-hour cookie system and the person can buy other items as well and you get the commissions.

Ok! Does anybody know if it is always 24 hours? I want to be affiliate for a product that takes months of planning for the buyer... They will not buy that within 24 hours...The link has to be valid for at least three months...

Good question, been wondering about this myself.
To the Wealthy Affiliate community all the best over the festive season and the new year as well.

Good question but you will find it difficult to find many of the small paying affiliate programs such as Amazon to ever give you months from someone using your link but what you can do is insert more of your past posts to get more people to see past product links.

Hi Alexander - one way you could get round this would be to get your visitors onto a mailing list.
Have you bought this product yourself? Do you know how to plan to get it - is there a way you can smooth the process for your visitors?
If there is then you could supply that info in an emailing series that would end up with you supplying the Amazon link at the end of each email.

I am promoting programs that pay 15% and higher in commissions and the longest cookie duration in any of my programs is 30 days and not many of them will go that long

You might want to check into dropshipping instead of affiliate marketing for what you are wanting, you can open an online store on your website to promote drop shipping products as well

Alexander - just found out that Amazon does have a 90 day cookie (sort of). You can find more info if you search for 'Amazon Affiliate 90 Day Cookie' on your favourite search engine.

That is great news, what do you mean sort of
Jeff

From what I've seen Jeff, if the shopper gets onto Amazon through you link and places a product into their shopping cart, the link lasts until the shopping cart expires (usually 90 days) - so it's not really a cookie but kinda acts like a cookie.

yes and it is strange cause it has to be the same for other affiliates that have links to these products today, products that cost around 200000$, I wonder who buys that within 24 hours...
Reply
DValentine Premium
That depends on where in the customer buying cycle you connect with them.
If someone types in 'Maserati' into a search engine, they are unlikely to be in a position to buy the car but if someone types in 'maserati Ghibli Granturismo price' they are closer to buying the thing.
If they're typing in 'where can I buy a Maserati Ghibli Granturismo near me' they are very close to buying one.
So, you need to discover the search terms being used by folks who are close to buying the product and use those search terms in your content.

If I build a free domain website and later want to move it to a domain I own, do the followers I have on the free domain move as well? Will they still be able to find it the same as they did before? Does the Google rating/locator start over?

Hi Chelsea, well that would be a Yes, Yes, No

everything is transferred safely and securely when you buy a domain name. Google will not punish you, in fact, when you buy a .com domain you will rank higher in Google

the rankings will drop for a bit as with any major change, but redirection is setup to allow your previous visitors to find your new site - this is one reason for leaving your old site up for a month after moving.
if you go into sitemanager and click on details you wil lsee what you are getting with your site as a starter member
your site will be https - all wa sites are now - or have the ability to be secure.
good luck chelsea

somebody please help me out. I have chosen "baby clothing" as my niche, so i have a question here, since i will be making a collection of baby fashion how do I get all the clothing infos and display them on my website and since I might be choosing amazon, ebay or walmart. and since my affiliation would directly to them so, do I have to get their clothing images from their websites or is it the other way around. do I have to get my own images and still be able to match their fashion stores and direct traffic to them.

Hi - all the images on your site have to be copyright-free. They will be difficult to find, if you want to promote branded products. You can't just copy and paste the images from Google or other websites.

Once you have applied to join affiliate programs such as Amazon, if you are approved, then they will supply you with images that you are allowed to use.

By the way, is baby clothing a subject you are genuinely interested in? You will be expected to write lots of articles on your chosen niche, as that is how you attract visitors to your website.
Reply
Jeffreybs Premium
why did you choose baby clothing, I just am not sure if this is the right niche for you.

Maybe you should take more time to think about your niche, you don't want to jump into a niche unless you really have an interest in the topic and the products

Just trying to help

So you have to apply to your chosen affiliate?

Hi - yes, they will inspect your website to see if it is suitable.

You will find some affiliate programs accept you right away, but some like Amazon make you wait until they are ready to approve you

Whichever affiliate programs you choose I wish you the best

Hello! I'm wondering if anyone else has experience setting up their website on another platform. I am familiar with creating websites with the Wordpress platform, and I would like to stay within that format. If I create with WA, will I still have the ability to modify the website's code, access my website database? I'm doing this while also following a web development course, so I want this to all make sense together.

Hi Dari, and Welcome, Yes you can still edit your WordPress themes here, just be careful when you are adding and deleting code that you do not break your website

Thank you @Psalisbury!

Dari - you get a very secure environment here for your hosting
with the siterubix sites you don't get ftp access - but one work around is to use the filemanager plugin - but only when you are premium.
with your own domain hosted here you get ftp access, but no cpanel. or limited cpanel.
with the theme you can easily create a child theme for you to experiment on - i would recommend the one by elementor - hello as it has the absolute minimum required and then you can style it as you wish.
you can always create your own theme and upload it and go on to create your own plugins as well.
good luck with your course and with your development wherever you continue it.

Could you establish an affiliate program your online store that you have or is planning to launch, in order to drive traffic and sales. I it is so what would I need to do to make this possible. For e.g. do I need to register an affiliate company to do so.
Reply
Jeffreybs Premium
I am not sure what you are asking, but if you are planning to promote an online store you would need products. You can join an affiliate program, digital products such as Clickbank, or you could add a dropshipping store which you sign up with a supplier but you do need to sign up with a company unless you have your own products to sell

Hey Jermaine - if you're thinking of having affiliates selling your own products for a commission - I think that's a little out of the scope of WA - WA teaches you how to be an affiliate marketer for someone else - if that's the route you want to go and I applaud you for doing so - then you should contact your personal coach (top left of your dashboard screen) for further help - or reach out to Kyle and/or Carson for more help.
