Today is going to your first introduction to proper organization on your website. One thing that we always need to remember is that we are building our websites for PEOPLE, and our visitors and how someone would view our content and our navigation is what should dictate how we present our content.

In other words, if your website is difficult to navigate, people simply won't. The may read your content, and then just move onto another website. You can increase your website "page views" and overall website revenue if you understand proper navigiation

Introducing "Custom" Menus in Wordpress.

The default Wordpress menus work in very strange ways and can be quite awkward. Typically when you add a page, it automatically goes to the main menu. A post, will go to the homepage blog roll (not the main menu).

As a website owner, you want FULL control of your navigation as your theme by default won't do a very good job of this. Fortunately, it is quite straightforward to create Custom Menus.

Navigation is going to be a critical element to your user experience moving forward and will impact your rankings (as Google ranks sites with proper navigation better), so this is an important step here.

I have created a"Creating Custom Menus, Navigation, & Widgets" video walking you through the process of creating custom menus. You can check it out below.

Task 1: Create a Menu

There are a few simple steps to creating a custom menu. The first thing you need to understand is where to find the Menu management section within your Wordpress admin area.

Under the Appearance, click the Menus sub heading.

This will take you to the custom menu creator.

Under the left tab, you are going to see a Posts section. Posts are not added to your navigation by default, so you are going to need to click the Posts tab and it will show a list of your Posts.

In this case, we have only create the About Me post. Click the check box associated with that, and then click the Add to Menu.

**Note: Most themes by default will add Pages to the top menu, but if you don't see your Privacy Policy within the Menu Structure section, you will need to add that.

Your About Me page has now been added to your menu structure (as shown below).

Once added to your Menu Structure, you can reorganize your menu in any way you like by dragging and dropping them. In this case, I am going to add my About Kyle post above the Privacy Policy, which is going to put it to the "left" of this within the live menu on my website. So in essence, I am ordering my pages here.

Upon completing my menu order, click the "Create Menu" button and you will establish your new menu.

After you have done this, you are going to want to add your newly created menu to your website, to override the Main Menu on your site. You are going to see a new tab created after you have created your new menu called "Manage Locations".

You will want to click this tab, and then under the "Main Menu" item you are going to choose the menu you just created, in this case it is called "Main Menu". After doing that click Save Changes. You are set!

For example purposes, here is what my live website looks like with my newly updated menu.

You can see the order of the menu items and that my "About Kyle" post comes before the "Privacy Policy" post.

And we are done. It is as simple as that and as we continue to build out our website, we are going to be reorganizing our websites regularly, managing this menu and likely creating "sub menus" which we will be getting into later as we have more content on our websites.

Nice work thus far!

Great question. Yes. Like Cyndes said, you can use a pen name. The key is that you use a name that people can connect with. Good luck!

Hi! Just wanted to create an account on Click Bank and when I entered the details at the profile after I clicked "save" this message came out:
Account Disabled
We appreciate your interest in ClickBank. Based on a review of your profile information, we are unable to offer you a ClickBank account at this time.
This decision is final. Inquiries through our support channels regarding this decision will not change this account status.
No further action is required. Thank you for your understanding.

Do you have any idea why?

Same thing happened on TextBroker. I just don't understand why.

Hi guys! Christina here and I just finished the "Choose A Niche" section. I have to admit I'm surprised that nothing was mentioned about high competition keywords. That said I'm somewhat stuck on choosing my niche. Here are a couple ideas I had:

I'm a huge nerd and I love Pokemon, but honestly I have no idea how I could even begin to make money from that niche. Honestly it's probably too broad, but things like merch is already pretty easy to find with google search - thoughts?

I also had the thought of trying for Shiba Inus - my guess there would be that I could potentially make money off of affiliate links to dog products for people who are intending to get a Shiba.

Thanks for your time and it's great to meet you all!

A niche is something you are passionate about and would write 100 articles or so about it, could be a hobby, an interest perhaps. To put it in perspective, would you be writing about it in five years time.

Via Kyle:
A niche can honestly be anything, what are you passionate about? What are you interested in?
When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:
I want to help people that ______________.
Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

You can do a google search
Your niche + affiliate programs
Your niche + affiliate programs + location
and see what results you get

You can use Jaaxy to drill down keywords, you are allowed 30 searches. Look for searches (avg.) above 30 and competition (qsr. ) lower than 100, the lower the qsr the better.

https://my.jaaxy.com/search/keywords

For your choice of keywords, always do an incognito search on Google before settling on a keyword, to see who appears in the top 3 positions.

You can search Affiliate Programs via left sidebar

Hi YaGirl!
Glad to see you are working on a niche! You are definitely on the right track by choosing things you love and/or are interested in; these things will take you farther than if you just picked something that is "popular." That way, you will never get tired of posting about your niche whether its popular or not.

Best wishes for a successful journey at WA!

Shiba Inus, the Japanese dogs?

I can lay down some suggestions for you on that niche of Shibas!

Include videos of when they are puppies and timeline of that to adulthood.

Please include Japanese videos of Shiba Inus in movies.

Hatchiko!

A Tale of Mari and the 3 Puppies.

Dedicated songs for movie A Tale of Mari and the 3 puppies, Mari is Japanese for Mary.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding your niche of Pokemon, you can make $$$ from it, the games, the entire Pokemon Trading Card collecting is a huge franchise in and of itself.

https://www.unovarpg.com/ That is Pokemon Indigo Online, play in it and collect all the Pokemon.

Try finding out more about Pokemon, by watching this List of movies and playing this games on such and such gaming device platforms too.

Hope this helps Christina!

video 11:26 minutes shows complete drop down of side bar list to edit or delete. mine does not. I added one item to the side bar, but the entire top line of options is duplicated under this. I tried to edit it 5 times. no luck. Also, cannot edit my website title line, which wraps in a field value too small to hold the size. there must be a an edit menu somewhere, but it does not appear on my screen. so I cannot folllow the steps in this video and cannot edit. how to edit?

Hi, you can access your sidebar by going to Appearance > Widgets, you'd see a sidebar.

Check this tutorial To edit Title, you'd go to Appearance > Customize, then Site Identity and Edit from there.

@AbieAJ left some great tutorials for you, but you may also want to check this one out on Menus Each theme is different though, so keep that in mind. A theme Kyle is using may have a specific setup, and if you chose a different theme, your setup may vary slightly. That being said, the main ingredients of a blog are going to be the menu, sidebar widgets, and main content area.

Let us know if you have any more questions Robert!

Hi Craig,

Have you tried to clear your browser's cache and cookies? Also, you can go to Websites > Site Details > Clear cache.
Maybe it is a cache issue.

If the problems are not fixed by clearing the browser and website cache, then I would suggest you send a ticket to Site Support:

Please provide info with a screenshot so they can help resolve the problems better.

Hope things will be sorted out for you.
