Today is going to your first introduction to proper organization on your website. One thing that we always need to remember is that we are building our websites for PEOPLE, and our visitors and how someone would view our content and our navigation is what should dictate how we present our content.

In other words, if your website is difficult to navigate, people simply won't. The may read your content, and then just move onto another website. You can increase your website "page views" and overall website revenue if you understand proper navigiation

Introducing "Custom" Menus in Wordpress.

The default Wordpress menus work in very strange ways and can be quite awkward. Typically when you add a page, it automatically goes to the main menu. A post, will go to the homepage blog roll (not the main menu).

As a website owner, you want FULL control of your navigation as your theme by default won't do a very good job of this. Fortunately, it is quite straightforward to create Custom Menus.

Navigation is going to be a critical element to your user experience moving forward and will impact your rankings (as Google ranks sites with proper navigation better), so this is an important step here.

I have created a"Creating Custom Menus, Navigation, & Widgets" video walking you through the process of creating custom menus. You can check it out below.

Task 1: Create a Menu

There are a few simple steps to creating a custom menu. The first thing you need to understand is where to find the Menu management section within your Wordpress admin area.

Under the Appearance, click the Menus sub heading.

This will take you to the custom menu creator.

Under the left tab, you are going to see a Posts section. Posts are not added to your navigation by default, so you are going to need to click the Posts tab and it will show a list of your Posts.

In this case, we have only create the About Me post. Click the check box associated with that, and then click the Add to Menu.

**Note: Most themes by default will add Pages to the top menu, but if you don't see your Privacy Policy within the Menu Structure section, you will need to add that.

Your About Me page has now been added to your menu structure (as shown below).

Once added to your Menu Structure, you can reorganize your menu in any way you like by dragging and dropping them. In this case, I am going to add my About Kyle post above the Privacy Policy, which is going to put it to the "left" of this within the live menu on my website. So in essence, I am ordering my pages here.

Upon completing my menu order, click the "Create Menu" button and you will establish your new menu.

After you have done this, you are going to want to add your newly created menu to your website, to override the Main Menu on your site. You are going to see a new tab created after you have created your new menu called "Manage Locations".

You will want to click this tab, and then under the "Main Menu" item you are going to choose the menu you just created, in this case it is called "Main Menu". After doing that click Save Changes. You are set!

For example purposes, here is what my live website looks like with my newly updated menu.

You can see the order of the menu items and that my "About Kyle" post comes before the "Privacy Policy" post.

And we are done. It is as simple as that and as we continue to build out our website, we are going to be reorganizing our websites regularly, managing this menu and likely creating "sub menus" which we will be getting into later as we have more content on our websites.

Nice work thus far!

Choosing a niche for me was easy. I love vinyl although, currently, my collection is small. But thinking over my Niche I cannot help but looking at the bigger picture realistically. My hobbies include: acrylic painting, 3d art, graphic design, multi media art, poetry, writing a book, photography. If it can be self expressed I love everything about it. I am wondering if Niche can be multiple combination of these and are they realistic?

Hi - no, a niche needs to be as narrow as possible to show Google that you are an authority on that subject, and also so as not to confuse your visitors. All of your suggestions would each be a niche in their own right.

Pick the one you would most enjoy writing about and can quickly think of ideas for topics for your first few articles.

You may be better starting with the online affiliate certification course first, at least the first few lessons to get your website up and running and with more understanding of affiliate marketing, then you could swap over to the bootcamp and continue on.

Will our training lessons still be available after we finished the 10 sessions once we move to Premium Membership? I just asked because I am seeing about Menus and Widgets which will be more applicable later. We can try them now but I am not sure if I can remember the procedure later when more needed?

Yes, from what I understand; they will still be available. All you have to do is go into training and sort of look at the lessons; and uncheck the ones you want and go over them again; and if you want to look again; leave them unchecked. If I am wrong; another Member please correct me?

That would be fine for now. Anyway, there is a huge community and the founders are always available if we have questions. Just like now, I have seen that I have loopholes viewing the website that I created. I can always go back and correct them.

Thanks Michael!

No Problem; I have not learned this yet myself; but if you are doing that? I suggest you learn to back up your website; and how to load the back up. Just in case? Otherwise; I suggest you mostly leave your site alone; unless you talk to Site Support, Kyle and Carson; hope this helps?

As a starter member, you have currently level 1 of the Online Entrepreneur Certification along with Phase 1 of the Bootcamp course that will always be available to you whenever you wish to revisit them.

Should you decide to go premium you have with the Online Entrepreneur Certification an extra 4 level of 40 lessons and with the Bootcamp 6 more phase lessons of 10 lessons in each.

They too can be revisited anytime as a premium member.

This does not include the many hundreds of Training Webinars that Jay (magistudios gives each and every week throughout the year. they are there along with the added courses and resources waiting for you.

Wishing you well along your online journey.

You are most welcome Rose and you will see how much more you will gain along the way when you decide to go premium.

If you do there is currently a special Black Friday offer till May 11 where you can pay only $299 for the year and that will be locked in forever while you remain as a yearly member just wanted to let you know.

That is your choice to make how you want to go as premium but thought you should know to give you the best opportunity available while it is still there

Here is Kyle's post on this to give you further information.

Ok, I will see budget allocation for that. I am just curious about what I've read from the community discussion last night, is it true that we will begin to get income from here in 6-12 months? Or are there ways to speed it up depending on the training that we are availing?

Normally that is around the time it may take to see some money coming through remember this is a training platform to show you how to build a website from scratch with the niche of your choice,

The training is built in a way and in a certain order to learn how to do this right and that is why it is important to follow each lesson in the order given and complete each task at the end of the lessons.

This is done for a good reason for your to get the best out of the training and Kyle and Carson have had WA going for 15 years and still are going strong because they know what is the right way and what not to do.

You then need to get your website indexed by Google and the other search engines along with creating posts about the niche you have chosen and keep creating content.

That in itself can take time as you need to build up your website to attract visitors.

That is why it can take some time it is also dependant on how much effort and work you put in as well

There are many other factors that are covered in the training to monetize your website but working and putting in the effort and creating content is a crucial step to success online.

Online or affiliate marketing is passive income meaning there are no quick ways to succeed and note that you are building your own brand and business online.

Just like any brick and mortar business, they don't become successful overnight even with all the overheads they need to stay afloat.

There are many scams online promising you the world and making thousands in a quick time but the only ones making money quickly are the scammers ripping you off in the process.

WA is not a quick rich scheme but a steady process to build a solid foundation to your website and as stated above this is dependant on your own effort and why you put into it.

That is why many fail and give up because they don't want to do the work and expect to push a button and make money overnight. It doesn't work that way

Hope that gives you more clarity with this.

As for your budget allocation the suggestion to go yearly is the cheapest way but that is only if you can afford it. Remember family and bills come first you can always upgrade to yearly later in need be its just that the $299 is and only will be available till May 11 but that is your choice to make

Ok, I am willing too. In fact , I am working my way towards traditional business and have the same mindset but my family only permits me to do online works due to my limited physical capacity. Still a bit limp in walking, though stable anyway.

Ok, hubby can answer that more depending on his priorities. I am still somewhat dependent on him

Log in to your site, click on settings on the left side of the menu at the bottom, and in general settings at the top is site title.

That's where you can delete and change the title.

Great lesson. Q: 1. If I change the email in Admin, who sends the the confirmation of the change - Word Press and/or Wealthy Affiliate? 2. Who can see my settings in my website? 3. Can a custom password be made to get into my website?
Sorry, really new to all of this! :-)
