We are now getting into the FUN stuff! Search Engine Optimization, also known as SEO!

You have your website in place and now you want to make it SEO ready so that search engines can find it. Our goal is to get ranked in the BIG 3 engines, Google, Bing & Yahoo.

Do note that our focus is going to be primarily on Google though as they own over 70% of all search traffic, and over 95% of mobile searches.

But why do you want rankings in the search engines? Simple...

Website Rankings = Targeted Traffic = Revenue!

The rankings are the first step in creating an online revenue stream.

Today we are going to walk you through the set-up of a Wordpress plugin that is going to do a lot of the "dirty work" for you and will take care of the optimization of all your website pages/posts, meta tags, and other aspects that search engines look for when ranking your site.

I have created a "Setting Your Website Up for Search Engines" video walk-through of this training and please follow along as it will add a lot of clarity to how SEO works, but also how to install the All in One SEO plugin.

Task 1: Set-up All in One SEO on your site

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a very important aspect of any website's success.

In this task we are going to be setting up a plugin that makes our website code (the stuff behind the scenes of our website) friendly for search engines like Google so they can index and rank our sites properly. This is going to be very powerful for your website content getting ranked in search engines going forward, so DO NOT skip this task.

Since you activated the All in One SEO within the last lesson, you should see the "All in One SEO" item with your main menu now in your Wordpress back office. If you mouse over that menu icon, a sub menu will pop out (see below).

Simply click the "General Settings" link. This is where you will be going to set-up your SEO settings for your website.

The main section you are going to be updating here is the Home Page Settings section. There are two sections that you will be updating there:

  • Home Title - This is the title of your website that will show up when you get ranked in Google and other search engines. This won't actually show up on your site.

You want this to reflect the actual title of your website that you created with your site, but also add something to make it a bit more captivating.

Ideal Length: 40-60 characters, keep under 60
  • Home Description - This is a description of what your website is about and how it will benefit people. Don't overthink this part, you just want to be descriptive as to what your site is.

    Ideal Length: Under 160 characters

Although there are a TON of other settings, you are not going to need to update any of these at the moment, not for SEO purposes.

When you are done updating your Home Page Settings, scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click the "Save Changes" button.

Upon doing this, you are done. Your website is set-up and SEO READY! :)

A few important points things to take note of here about All in One SEO:

  • You DO NOT need to "Upgrade to Pro". The free version is more than adequate for your needs.
  • You won't see these changes to your actual site. The work is done behind the scenes within your websites HTML code. It is making your code friendly for search engines.

Awesome, your website is all set-up for SEO now! As you build out your new pages/posts, they will automatically be optimized for Google and other search engines. If you have any questions about the set-up process, leave them in the comments below and we will give you a hand.

In the next lesson we are going to be discussing KEYWORDS, the root of all of your rankings, traffic and success online.

Hi Kyle,
Unfortunately, at the moment, I am at a total standstill as I can't find this window on the WA site to enable to move on.
I have sent 2 other requests but haven't received a reply, also posted to the wider community and no reply. Perhaps the question is too silly, or just with Christmas everybody is too busy.
HELP
Thanks
Gwenyth

Hi,
WA has gone thru a face change. So no everything you saw on the left side of the screen which was the menu is now on the top in a horizontal menu. The exact page you show in your image does not exist in that format anymore. what it looks like the the new "home" tab in the horizontal menu.

I attached a screen shot showing what some of the horizontal menus items display.

Hi - you had 2 replies earlier on. Look further down this page. The platform has been upgraded, it doesn't look like that any more. Everything that was on the left hand side, is now across the top of the screen.

Hi guys, I feel stuck on this content creation. I'm confused as it requires me to narrow my Niche to a product that I have an EXPERIENCE in and write on it.
As a nurse, I can talk about disease condition and their management, how then can a niche be carved out from this and how can this yield money by affiliating with say Amazon since it's about health education and healthful living?

It doesn't need to be narrowed down to a product you like. Your niche is something you have an interest in or passion about. Or maybe even a hobby of yours. Amazon definitely isn't the only affiliate program out there. There could be products you can promote for certain diseases or management thereof.

You can just start writing about your passion and monetize it later you can find many ways to make money after you get your site indexed

Amazon may carry related books or videos. Since you are so familiar with the subject you could write your own ebook and charge for it. It could be posted on your website or Amazon or another Affiliate program that manages book affiliate programs. You could type a related phrase in Amazon and see what comes up. I saw healthy living gifts, cookbooks and cookware.

Hope that gives you some ideas.

Hello
I'm finding it difficult to get a niche.
I'm a registered Nurse and I've lived and worked as a nurse, I'm feeling a niche in Health would be good but I don't know how to go about it.
Asides my profession I enjoy music but I don't know much about music so getting a niche is difficult for me.
Finally, I was into women fashion (clothes, handbags and shoes) years back in a traditional method.
I really need a suggestion of which aspect of these that can make a good niche.

They all could be great niches. Health is an industry, you could focus on one thing, something you saw often as a nurse and that you want to educate people about.

As a premium member, you can build up to 10 websites. So you can start with one and earn money from it and then build another one in the next year if you want to diversify and stay motivated.

There would be lot of niches for sure related to nursing. I have even seen websites dedicated to comfortable shoes.

Some of the questions you can ask yourself to identify what you are really passionate about are:
As a nurse, I wish I could have done more to help or teach people about ________________.
If people would only do __________ it would make so much difference in their lives. Here's how I can help now.

This is a difficult point for me, choosing the niche. I am Italian but I live in Belgium. I have a passion in life and this is all about esthetical personal change, total make over, look, style. Maybe you know the program in TV "body fixers". I worked a few years ago also with a plastic surgeon specialized in femminisation (a man who wants to change gender). I found that really interesting. I would like to stay in this sector and find a niche in there but first of all: do I dedicate to the Italian market (Italian site) To the Belgian market (site in Dutch)? To EU? And second, would this be a too small market area maybe?I mean... Not sure this could be something easy to develope online. Any suggestions to help me? Shoot☺️

I am not familiar with either countries market volume. Do you hear much talk about it in either country? Are there a lot of shops? You might check google and see what websites come up.

Look for affiliate programs related to your niche. It will help you decide where you want to target your audience.

Hey there, if you need a hand with choosing your niche, I suggest this blog post and it'll be all clear: If you want to target audience in Italy or Belgium, you'll have to write in their languages.

If what you are passionate about, is what you can go on with in a long while, why not?
