We are now getting into the FUN stuff! Search Engine Optimization, also known as SEO!

You have your website in place and now you want to make it SEO ready so that search engines can find it. Our goal is to get ranked in the BIG 3 engines, Google, Bing & Yahoo. Do note that our focus is going to be primarily on Google though as they own over 65% of all search traffic, and over 95% of mobile searches.

But why do you want rankings in the search engines? Simple...

Website Rankings = Targeted Traffic = Revenue!

The rankings are the first step in creating an online revenue stream.

Today we are going to walk you through the set-up of a Wordpress plugin that is going to do a lot of the "dirty work" for you and will take care of the optimization of all your website pages/posts, meta tags, and other aspects that search engines look for when ranking your site.

I have created a video walk-through of this training and please follow along as it will add a lot of clarity to how SEO works, but also how to install the All in One SEO plugin.

DISCUSS THIS VIDEO HERE: Setting Your Website Up For Search Engines

Task 1: Set-up All in One SEO on your site

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a very important aspect of any website's success.

In this task we are going to be setting up a plugin that makes our website code (the stuff behind the scenes of our website) friendly for search engines like Google so they can index and rank our sites properly. This is going to be very powerful for your website content getting ranked in search engines going forward, so DO NOT skip this task.

Since you activated the All in One SEO within the last lesson, you should see the "All in One SEO" item with your main menu now in your Wordpress back office. If you mouse over that menu icon, a sub menu will pop out (see below).

Simply click the "General Settings" link. This is where you will be going to set-up your SEO settings for your website.

The main section you are going to be updating here is the Home Page Settings section. There are two sections that you will be updating there:

  • Home Title - This is the title of your website that will show up when you get ranked in Google and other search engines. This won't actually show up on your site.

You want this to reflect the actual title of your website that you created with your site, but also add something to make it a bit more captivating.

Ideal Length: 40-60 characters, keep under 60
  • Home Description - This is a description of what your website is about and how it will benefit people. Don't overthink this part, you just want to be descriptive as to what your site is.

    Ideal Length: Under 160 characters

Although there are a TON of other settings, you are not going to need to update any of these at the moment, not for SEO purposes.

When you are done updating your Home Page Settings, scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click the "Update Options" button (as shown below).

Upon doing this, you are done. Your website is set-up and SEO READY! :)

A few important points things to take note of here about All in One SEO:

  • You DO NOT need to "Upgrade to Pro". The free version is more than adequate for your needs.
  • You won't see these changes to your actual site. The work is done behind the scenes within your websites HTML code. It is making your code friendly for search engines.

Awesome, your website is all set-up for SEO now! As you build out your new pages/posts, they will automatically be optimized for Google and other search engines.

In the next lesson we are going to be discussing KEYWORDS, the root of all of your rankings and success online.

I need help under standing the like and follow.I'm trying to do the same as they have done for me. I see the bell click on it and see that others are on it as well and I'm trying to like and send out the msg but it goes out to one person. what am I doing wrong?

To like a comment you click the word Like to reply you click the word reply and then a box comes up and you can respond.

To follow someone at the top there is a follow me button click that and you are automatically connected to that member.

Should they reply back to you will get a message via email if you have that set up which you can do in your account settings under your profile image to your left click that at the bottom is account settings?

OR you will see where the bell is a number or numbers which you click and it may take a few seconds and you will see if anyone is following you or has replied to your comment, question etc.

Say for example you have 5 people follow you so when you see the bell it will show 5.

Click the bell that as you see that there are people following you the reason you only get to that one person is that you need to click on each member individually to respond back to them so that is what you will need to do

When you click one member and reply go back and click the bell and you can go to the next person

Alternatively you can under your profile image on the right side you will see network click that and you will find people that you followed as well as people follow you when you click those following you if you haven't followed them yet the follow me button will show again click the member and reply and then click the follow me at the top of their profile.

If you just click the follow button itself it will only follow them but not take you to their profile image

Hi everyone, Im in the process of choosing a website theme in website builder. I would just really like to know if the themes are editable to the point of changing the link words at the top of the theme page ? for example ; changing a link that says " our team " to " our vision ".
How much room do we have in changing link words around on our site or do we have to run the website to the format that is displayed? Correct advice would be very appreciated as I'm stalling on this question.

yes you will be ble to create your own menu - in fact you can create several to test out what you like and what converts better.
and you maybe able to have one or two at the top and one at the bottom - theme dependent.
go into appearance customize and you will see the changes live(ish).
have fun changing it.

Hi :)

The answer is: It depends. Each theme is different as to what you can edit. The WA themes are mainly a collection of the themes from WordPress.org in one place for your convenience to start you out.

Once you choose a theme and hit the magic button (don't be scared!), you can easily go into the back end of your website and install a whole bunch more themes to try out to your hearts content.

It's the best way to find out what a theme has, to just install it, activate it, and play around with it.

I wouldn't spend too much time on this, like others have suggested because the content you learn to write is the most important thing and you want to get moving forward on the lessons.

But I can see how this is important to you, so go ahead and pick anything really and you can immediately go in after and try a few more if you want.

Here is a nice training to show you how to do that if you want to.

definitely don't stall - choose a simple theme and carry on creating content.
you can have a test site to try out other themes.
and then update your main site- but don't delay for this or you will go through all 3000 of them looking for the ideal one.
as kyle says it is better to have a plain site and good content - that is what the reader is there for at the end of the day - than have a flashy site trying to boost a mediocre site.
you will be able to change the top menu and create your own - most things will be customizable, but it may be in the premium theme where you get the most customization.
good luk with your selection

it should all be customizable - check under appearance - customize and you will see the menu of what you can change - try it out on a test site and then your main site - there is no reset- although i do remember seeing a plugin to do that - theme reset!

You will have your website up and running in your own niche (the direction of your business) and it will be a full functional Wordpress website.

If you upgrade to premium, will be totally up to you. That is your decision.

Any one out there that is a wiz at Jaaxy? I'm looking for keywords for a particular page and have tried all variations that I can think of..am I pushing it with a QSR of 95 to 100? They all say "great" but this is a page for a travel niche and most of the sites that are ranking are bigger guns in the travel industry. Searches range from 150 to 300.

Thanks!

In lesson two, you say I have to have a website. What about using social media in addition to or instead of a website? For example, let's say I produce YouTube videos and I have a direct link to my products there. In that case, can't I bypass the website entirely?
Reply
Labman Premium
No, you will want to have a place to send people to. A website is a necessary thing. You will support your website using the other media that you mention but a website is a necessity.

Many people create their business on leased land (ie.social media) and then the rules change and they are basically out of business.

If you have your own website, it can't be taken away and your business is secure.

Hi,
What I think your doing is you are opening that whole page so yes then you can read it.

Have you added your About me page into the menu section on your dashboard.

That way your about me comes up as the top level menu then you click on About me and your page opens up then when you click About me.

Could you send me your URL here your web address to your website. So I can take a look to see where you may have gone wrong.
You can do this for us if we need to look further at your website to see where you have gone wrong. As I am not 100% sure what you mean.

Domains usually run around 13 or 14 dollars a year. If possible get a .com site as opposed to a .org or .net, etc. The Site Domain tab in the Site Manager will walk you through it. I would get the domain name as soon as possible, but you can start on the free site and it only takes the click of a mouse to transfer it to your purchased site when you are ready.

Sometimes there will be "default" menus or widgets there. If you add another widget, it will often times remove that default menu.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like you are looking at your website from the front end as anyone else would. You can log in to the back end where the WordPress dashboard is by going to the site manager section and logging into your site.

This will then show the little black bar at top and then you can switch between "visit site" and back to the dashboard.

Edits to your pages need to be made in the pages editor for each page on your WordPress site.

Not sure if this helps, let me know if I'm completely off track.

Hi I've just watched the building your website in under 30 seconds video. Kyle clearly says that you should name your domain as near to the niche as possible... I understand why in terms of searches and contacts etc BUT.... does that mean you need a web site for each product within that niche??? Say for instance as Kyle demonstrates you pick baby products should the domain just reflect children ? or ( if the niche is baby strollers ) then it should say Babystollers(.com) for example ? I'm not really confused but before I go ahead and make a mistake I would just like to clarify this .... THANKS x
Reply
caljones6750 Premium
You can have several things in your niche on one website. For instance, if baby strollers are your niche, you can also promote car seats, carriers, swings, etc. and your domain name could be: getbabymoving.com or mobilebaby.com or something like that. Or, you could indeed go for something that reflects children in general. It would be a lot broader, but still in the ball park. But even if you did go with babystrollers.com, you would still be attracting people who are in the market for other baby stuff. Unless you are committed to just baby strollers and are confident that the market will support it, I'd give myself a little breathing room. As a starter member you can build 2 websites. When you go Premium, you can have up to 50. So you'll have plenty of room to branch out.
Reply
JustinaTyson Premium
Hi, You can pick a more general domain name that fits your niche so you can include multiple products under it. Example: if your niche is children/babyproducts you could use a domain like happychildren or happychild.... child/children would be broad enough to include any age including teens. Hope that answers your question!

The adding menu only allows me to to add the post , I just want an additional page . Thanks.

Now created new menus but all my menus now gone ( about me , privacy , etc replaced with the menu I have created .hahahahaha..i am so frustrated ..

To have a drop down menu just add the posts under the main head line you want it under and slide it across gently that gives you the drop down menu. Hope that helps :)

Thanks . I went back to this lessono 8 n Level 1 as I am now on Level 2 ( asking feedback on my site ) basically trying to get it ready for someone to get feedback on..
I have watched the video of Kyle 3x then went to wordpress toedit my menus .
Although I am slow in technical aspect but have not skipped any lesson.so far The video does not show me how to create menu to my top page . It shows creating a new menu on different topic but all i wanted to do is to stay on top page and add a title or page to that top menu page and keep adding title like contact etc ( lining up with About me, Home , Privacy etc ) I want to create a new page/heading i.e Blogs so all my posts are tidy up in one page/title so that my readers can use the dropdown under that heading so to speak .

Debs66 Premium
Sorry sweetie. I have confused myself and you. :( Ok To create a top level menu. You have to create a page or post.

For example if I wanted to have top level menu that says Blog and under that Blog I want a blog roll.

I will create a page that says Blog. I will update it.

Then I go to menu add That blog page into the menu update it. Go back to my main page I now Have blog sitting there along side Privacy about me etc.

Then as I post my articles as a blog. I will go to menu add my latest post in the menu section.

Pop it directly under the Blog then slide it across slightly to the left. That way I create a direct drop down Menu right under Blog on my top level menu. :) Is that what you mean. :)
Reply
Debs66 Premium
To make a new top level menu you need to create that page also. Then you add to it your menu.

Here is a video of creating a drop down and sub menu. It may help a little more. It is a little old but works the same.

Just start with the training program. It outlines everything step-by-step.

As far as a return on your investment, that's a bit of a loaded question. There are just too many variables. Some have done it in as little as a few months, while others take a couple of years or more (if ever.)

Just keep in mind that this is in no way get-rich-quick. It's going to take time, patience, and a boatload of hard work. It's a business like any other. The only difference is you don't have all the typically associated overhead that goes along with a traditional business (office space, storefront, warehouse, etc.)

I think conservatively if you give yourself 6-12 months before you expect to make any money you will be okay. As I said, it may actually be less than that, but it's better to be prepared for it.

For now, just work through the lessons and focus on creating quality content for your audience. You could have all the ads and links in the world on your site, but without anyone actually there to see them, you still won't make a dime.

The real challenge is getting traffic and building an audience. After that, the money part is easy :-)

One per site Beneliza, imagine if I come to your site to learn about office supplies and I find information about groceries! I am going to think it's odd to say the least and I am not interested in groceries I wanted info about office supplies, probably going to click away.

You want your site to become the authority site about whatever the niche is, so keep it to the point.
Reply
JackieSmith Premium
To add to what Heidi has advised, only concentrate on one site at a time and narrow that site down so that it isn't too broad.

So for example, if you wanted to build a website around grocery stuffs, you might want to narrow it down to Healthy Grocery for diabetics.

By building your site like this, you can become an authority in the niche.

Hi all! I'm trying to decide on a niche and I have a few different ideas- any feedback is great!
1. homeschooling- I homeschool 2 of my kids and am passionate about it, however, I won't be able to continue homeschooling 2 years from now. Does that matter?
2. relationship advice- I have no official education in the area, but people often ask how my husband and I are able to have such a strong relationship
3. sex- advice and sex toy reviews done classy, not trashy, and would be angled at the average joe/jane relationship, not the 50 shades of grey relationship;) Ha!

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Hi Alisia,

Here are a few tips that could help you to make a decision

Sex advice may be a great start.I have been a Sellhealth affiliate which offer sexual health products along with tools like articles, videos and coupons. It has antiaging sexual health and mens and female sexual products to promote. You need a website to join .Link is bit.ly/sellhealthaffiliateprogram

I have made a couple of few thousand dollars by using free website.Of course pinterest has helped. You can consider which niche you like. Its your decision

You don't have to be currently homeschooling to have a website in that niche as long as you are content to continue working on a homeschooling site after you stop homeschooling. You could narrow it down quite a bit, like "history resources for homeschooling" or "planning your days" and design schedule pages as free resources for members.

I homeschooled two children through high school and my third into elementary school. He is now in public school but I'm still interested in homeschooling and have toyed with the idea of starting a niche website in that area.

You could make the other ideas work as well.

Thanks for the walk through video. The only issue I have is the very last step. There are no boxes below my text at the bottom of the privacy policy page in the wordpress editor. Have I missed a step somewhere?
The boxes I mean are the
Keywords (Comma seperated)
Robots meta noindex
Robots nofollow
Can anyone offer some help?
Thanks in advance

Have you set up the All in One SEO plugin, if so, then you should be able to manage the robots below the page editor. If you don't see it there that is fine as well, this won't really represent any issue at all moving forward. ;)

HI everyone, I have chosen my niche, I hope so. I want it to be Cats or Kittens. I know it is a large niche and it will take a lot of work. I love cats and had them all my life. But last year I lost my 2 babies. And I miss them so much, I think this will help me.
Please let me know if I can make it work. Thank you all.

Welcome, Bonnie. And a very definite yes...

Here's the thing about choosing a niche: ANY niche can be a great niche as long as it is something you are passionate about. I tell people all the time that internet marketing requires a ton of content, and choosing something based solely on the money almost never works; people get burned out long before they get enough content to succeed.

Having said that, now the trick is for you to decide exactly what your site will be about and look like. I ran the numbers for the keywords "dogs" and also "cats". Unfortunately -- but not unexpected -- they are terrible. There's just way too much competition for a generic cat or dog site.

Instead, think about how you can make it tighter. For example, something like "best pets for kids", "best pets for seniors", "raising healthy pets", etc.

By starting small and tight like that, you have a better chance of getting your foot in the door and pulling in some real traffic. Then, as you grow and gain a steady audience, you can start to expand out to bigger keywords, and who knows... you might even become a recognized authority one day and be able to even get the more generic words such as dog and cat as well.

Think about what makes you unique and share that with your readers. If you do that, you will do great :-)

If you have any more questions or need anything, please don't hesitate to ask.

BonnieN2 Premium
Hi AJTrimble1, Thank you for responding, I like the ideal on making it tighter, I am going to get me a kitten very soon I hope. I am thinking about " Raising healthy kittens". Have people follow me and help me find my kitten and how to do it.

Hi Rahima
Unfortunately no you can't put your membership on hold, you are either a member or you are not.

You will have 30 days from when your membership finishes to move your site to other hosting if you wish to keep it alive.

I have heard that WA keeps your site in some sort of back up so if you return within 6 months it may be available, BUT you would need to confirm that for definite with Kyle or Carson (unless another member can say for sure).

It would be shame to see your work go to waste, I hope you can stretch to keeping your membership going.

I need suggestions. As I am attempting to get through my training, I am finding that I would like to limit the notifications that come up under the [Bell Icon].I am getting too distracted and it is slowing me down. Can anyone advise me how to set preferences under [Change Options]? Is it better to limit what I see up there while I'm getting started. It's going to take me a long time to get started because this is all new to me.
Specifically, I do not care to see every new person's initial goals (ie. How much do you want to make? etc.) How do I single out responses to those 3 questions?

Is it a bad idea to block out all of the notifications?
Reply
merlynmac Premium
Click on the bell and click Change Options. I have mine set to Comments and Answers to My Questions. The rest can be seen by other means.
Reply
roxydog1312 Premium
I understand your frustration as I am new to a lot of this too. I have found that I basically ignore the bigger posts now (the goals one for sure). I do all of my responding through my emails. Each email has a link that takes you to the comment. I respond to the comment, then delete the email. Then I hit the "bell" and just glance over the newer stuff to be sure I"m not missing anything.

Also, I have put aside a day of the week where I do my helper stuff. I go in and answer questions and like peoples comments, and give critiques in websites etc. That stuff is important, but can be distracting from writing content.

Kyle mentioned too that he sets aside time where all he does is write content. I have taken this one step further and have set aside a block of time where all I do is training.

That's what works for me. Do it in blocks. Hope this helps. Rhonda Leigh

In which lesson do I learn how to affiliate merchandise? Meaning I am setting up a store but want the commission when customer is linked to buying item with Amazon. I am in lesson 7 and everything seems to be about writing. I am not doing a blog I am focusing on a storefront I found a niche but need affiliates and suppliers to place on my website.

Hi - the idea behind affiliate marketing is to create great content which brings visitors to your site, and then they can purchase the items you recommend. How do you plan on attracting customers otherwise? You will just be yet another shop among millions, and nobody will find you.

Please follow the training, it gives you the best chance of success. Bear in mind, that some affiliate programs will inspect your site before they approve you, so there needs to be something of value on it.

I guess you are not understanding what I am asking.. is there a lesson that shows how to use products on my site that link to customers purchasing on places like Amazon or do I need to figure out on my own, and I have had a service business with own website and know how to market and build own website etc I just thought these lessons would fill me in others areas I not familiar with before I have to learn from own research...@dianescorpio I understand what affiliate marketing entails and I want customers to buy from items I recommend which if you read my question is how do I get those items listed on my website to affiliate market?
I was very outset by your comment as it does not relate to what I was asking

When money is that tight, WA is expensive, I know. I’m stretching my budget as well here. And you need to realise that once you go Premium, you can’t go back to a free account.

But you can acces a lot of training for free as well and build your online business on a free Siterubix site. You’d be relying more on the help of the community, but this is a very helpful group of people.

Putting questions or keywords in the search bar (top left) will give you loads of blog posts, tuturials, trainings and answers. For free.

If you don’t find answers there, you can ask the questions and get answers from WA members directly. For free.

A free account still gives you acces to the knowledge and the support from fellow WA members.

I hope you won’t be discouraged to give your online business a real try. As well as WA.

Best,

Either way, you need to create keyword rich content to reach your audience.
Maybe the music niche is easier for you to write a lot of blog posts and once you have organic traffic you can still offer your service as admin in a side banner on the instrument niche blog.
Just my thoughts :)

Hmmm... what is to stop someone from just slapping a paragraph full of keywords on one of their site pages? And I'm not even talking about full sentences. Like something on the bottom of the page that says
"People like you search for:
*keyword
*keyword
*keyword
*keyword"

Like would the search engines get confused or like, suspicious or something? There has to be a reason people don't do this.

In a word... Google. lol

Back when the internet was new, this was exactly how it worked. Of course, this led to a web full of spam sites that didn't really give the searcher what they were looking for. But that all ended years ago.

Google's algorithm is incredibly advanced today, and such tactics will get you at best ignored, and at worst, such down. Now it's all about creating quality content. It's borderline impossible to game the system now.

So started off in the bootcamp training but have had a change of direction. Suddenly getting clearer on my goals. I am branding myself and I have a brand name....yet I have 3 distinct niches under my brand name. Would I put these three different niches within my website or create subdomains. I am not keen on purchasing a different domain for each niche at this point in time. The niches all relate to me and do overlap and interconnect. Hope this makes sense.

So...I've been on and off here for the past week or so - wasn't too sure about it...however, I stuck it out (at a slack rate lol), cause why not? I just finished level 1 of my Online Entrepreneur Certification. It was full of flayvorrr. Loads of helpful information and easy to refer back to after my time away! It's so easy to become skeptical due to the scams out there and most places seem very "pitchy". This 1st level has taught me so much so I'm actually now very curious to see this all work. It's a realistic approach and has a genuine feel. Now I'm a premium and going to stick to it much more consistent this round. I actually can't wait to dive into the next lesson. 😂

For anyone reading, stick it out. I'm so lazy with reading, I thought I could skim through the first part but realised there's actually alot of vital information so well worth the read (plus there's videos). Don't be lazy! Do it right the first time. Don't give up. :) Wishing you very the best. :)

Hi! Don't skim over any part of the training. I am probably taking a little longer than many simply because (for the time since 2001) I finally "get" the system of working from the ground up, one step at a time, rather than trying to jump into the deep end. I'm learning to swim :-) As you say. Do it right the first time! Following you...

Thank you! :) Yes sometimes we have to learn to slow down and I'm glad I learnt that early on through the training. Well great things take time and I'm sure your steady approach is/will be rewarding. It's not just laziness that can cause us to miss things. I was so excited, I think I missed a lot in my eagerness to move forward. As soon as I completed a task, I checked it off and went to the next lesson. It probably would have been beneficial to pause and process along the way and tweak things a bit before moving ahead. I'm glad it's easy to go back and review.
Reply
Ksallycee Premium
Yes! I agree. It's so easy to have our eyes so fixated on the prize, or (in this case) the end result, so much that we forget the valuable steps in-between. Good things take time, patience and a few slow breaths to sooth the excitement and in my case a bit of consistency. It sounds like you have a positive take. Thank you for sharing and wishing you the best. :)

Hi everybody...got a simple question. I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I'm presently doing my first searches on Jaaxy and finding some nice numbers. But now and then I run into this <10 beneath the average searches per month. Sometimes (rarely) rather than a concrete number on the left column, this symbol and the number 10 appear, as the first listing. This listing usually includes a very very low QSR, such as 0, or 1, or 8. My question: what does <10 mean? Is this a good keyword or bad? I know the QSR is somewhat unbelievable. Enjoying every minute of learning....
Thanks in advance,
Andy

It means that there are less than 10 searches a month. In other words Andy it's not worth going for it as a main keyword. You can put in your spreadsheet to be added as a secondary keyword in a related article

it could be that the keyword is very new - so if it is a new product - then there maynot be enough data on it yet.
or as catherine says - no one is searching for it.
if you run into this and feel that it is the keyword you want to use - type it into google and see what comes up in the google related or the google instant. and see if that is a better keyword.
good luck

You can keep working on your siterubix stie for as long as you want for free. You will not be locked out.
You will be limited in the training you can get if you do not go premium.

Hi - you can stay as a free starter for as long as you like, and still have access to your website, even when it is up and running. However, you will only have access to the first 10 lessons, which may not be enough for a successful business. The first month is $19, followed by $49 per month, and you can cancel at any time.

The up grade is well worth it when you are ready as you will have access to more videos and training. Just remember it is an expense to you and can be taken off for taxes as such. You can also stay as a free member

As others have noted, you will always have access to your free site as well as the first 10 lessons of the training program. You will lose access to the community, however.

If you are still on the fence but would like to see what all you get with the premium membership, as long as you sign up before the timer is us your first month is only $19. That's a pretty small investment and would give you plenty of time to go through the entire program and see if this is really for you.

Hope this heips :-)

1. You will not be locked out.
2. You will need premium to progress through the remainder of the training, and it is such a good idea to get it.
3. Join within seven days = $19 first month.
4. How you pay determines what you pay. Join on a monthly basis and it is $49 month. Pay up front and you can get it for as low as $29 a month.
I went monthly because that suited my pocket. I will pay more up front when I am further down the track, but for now I am happy with $49 a month. I live in New Zealand and with the exchange rate I budget for approximately NZ$20 a week, and what is there to not like about that?
Anyway, best of luck.

Premium membership is wonderful but not necessary. You can start with your two free websites and work on creating quality content for them and upgrade to Premium later when it will not create a financial strain.

I knew without a doubt almost immediately that this was for me and I made some sacrifices to be able to upgrade. It may not be for you or it may be for you but later.

Good luck, whatever you decide!

I think you are lucky to have some things already working for you. Are your 10 biz opps making money for you yet? If not, You can learn so much here and I am sure it will help you even with what you have already developed.
When I first started two months ago, I took the free training and even before I finished the free training, I knew I was going to upgrade to Premium. There is so much that is offered here and the price per month/year is so reasonable. I wasted so much money in the past looking for a community/coach that would really help me, not just take my money.
I know it is difficult when there is no money. I have been there. You can take the free training, work with your two free websites and when money is better, you can upgrade. I highly recommend that you in vest in a program that works and this is that program as far as I am concerned.
I do wish you the best of luck in your choice and I know you can reach success. Good Luck. Linda

I want to make sure I understood correctly what a niche should be. When I went over the lesson I understood it as something very specific to a general hobby or interest you have. For example, if you like skateboarding, I thought the niche meant it would be skateboards, helmets, skateboarding shoes, or skateboarding clothes, etc. I didn't think the niche would be skateboarding because I understood that this would be too general? Is this correct or would skateboarding be the niche?

If that is the case, would you suggest starting a whole different website so that the url doesn't have a name specific to skateboarding shoes or skateboarding helmets for example?
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
Yes and no. Yes, you want to "niche down" with your content because it is easier to rank for more specific keywords. However, I always recommend "niching up" with your domain name. Here's what I mean...

Keep your content tight. Think of your niche as nothing more than a particular topic. So, in that sense, start with a single, specific niche (like skateboarding shoes in your example.) Then write a bunch of content around that topic. Once you start to rank and get steady traffic for that topic, you can branch out to the next one (helmets, clothing, etc.) That's where a more general domain name comes in.

By keeping the domain more general, you build in the room to expand into other topics later. The challenge with making a domain too keyword specific is you risk locking yourself into a tight niche. Then you run into trouble when you want to expand because no one will know your other topics are there, or you risk turning your readers off if they come expecting one thing and see a bunch of other "unrelated" posts.

It's late and I'm kind of tired, so hopefully I'm not rambling too much and this makes sense :-)

skateboarding can be too general, there are allot of content like, shoes, helmets, bearings, wheels, the top anti slip liner etc. You can start small and work your way up. I to started broad and narrowed it down.

and remember to begin with the mindset to help out people before you want to start selling them products.

you want to gain trust before they even think about buying from you.
keep at it and do not give up.

good luck,

a question I have is when you want to buy something online, most people are going to go to google and type for amazon or walmart and they will get on to their website, how are people going to find your website ??? okay, unless you are giving someone courses??? how does this really work
Reply
Kari14 Premium
Say someone wants to know all about how to do their nails at home. How would you go about finding that information? Of course you would type in the Google bar--Nails or maybe how to do my nails. You would get a list of websites that you could choose from. This is where your website will be once you get INDEXED(I don't mean to yell this). On the first page for people to choose your site. That is what we are striving for, to get Indexed. Then whatever you have on your site is what they can purchase or you send them where they can. Hope I helped you out. Blessed Be
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
You are correct. People will typically go straight to Amazon and Walmart... IF they already know what they want. But many people aren't there yet.

There is this thing in business known as the purchase cycle. The end of the cycle is, of course, the person buying a product. But long before that there are various stages where people are curious, somewhat interested, researching, etc. Those are the people we're looking for.

People who haven't made up their mind or are still considering a purchase may do all kinds of research to see if it is really something they want. Your job is the figure out what questions they might have and answer those questions. If at that point they are comfortable with the purchase, they might just click on that nice convenient link you have sitting right there in front of them :-)

i tend to disagree - you first identify a need - then you find that there is something to fill that need - then you look for the best one - and that is where your site comes in - to help others find the best solution for their problem.
they may click through - and will find themselves on amazon - so trust the site and buy.
but you need to show that you know what you are talking about by giving away info - not jsut products.
people now research more than just jump into a shop - they are looking for more now.
the business model does work
good luck

Ok, if i want to promote seveal different products off clickbank, how am I going to come close to writing blogs for say 10 different products or more. Or if I am promoting Amazon products, there is no way to just stay within the realm of my interests. Just because I like anything doesn't mean it is the most profitable product affiliate product off clickbank to promote? A bit lost here.

The training digs deeper into this in level 3, lesson 6. You can write a review for one product or you can write one post where you review several similar products. You can review any products, but its important to stay within your niche so you can organically promote the products and link reviews to your content pages. Your goal is to provide meaningful content that helps your readers, and the promoting products and reviews are a byproduct of that helpful info (content) you create.
Hope this helps!
Reply
DianeScorpio Premium
Hi - don't be thinking of just how you can promote high-ticket items, or as you say, the readers will soon realise that you have no interest in the product.

Firstly, you need to choose your niche, a subject you are genuinely interested in. You will be writing purely informational articles, with no promotions to start with. Then you can write reviews of products which tie into your niche.

Say, for example, your niche is all about dogs. You might write articles about how to train your dog or what vaccinations it might need. You could then write reviews on dog-related products. People would read your articles and reviews, and then hopefully purchase through your link.

Hi,
I’m not an advanced marketer yet but will do everything to achieve this goal and become independent. I think any niche can be perfect but the best is
• to find something you like - so that you’d enjoy the ’work’ and
• you know a lot about so that you could share your personal experiences with your future customers.
’Personal Development Industry’ seems to be such a niche for you bt at the beginning it seems to be too broad so I’d narrow it. Nowadays there are a great deal of digital products so I’m sure if you learn the ’hows’ here, you’ll be successful in this niche. Wishing you good luck and success,
Bela

Hey Neel, Sounds like you know your direction which is great. The PD niche is good but very competitive. In the training here our aim is to choose sub niches to begin with so that these can rank in the search engines and get traffic organically. Then in time expand the niche as your site grows.

So maybe choose a domain name that is generic across the PD niche but pick one of the five topics you mention and concentrate on this until you get some momentum.

Amazing potential with this Neel :)

This system is very interesting and I can't wait for the next lesson. I think the hardest for me will be first: the niche, 2nd the content of the website. I really like the example of the snack helmet and wonder how the person came up with this idea? Is the training going to help with the selection of cool ideas like that? how about ideas like the person has on that website with recipes that can be used for the snack helmet? Are there other examples on WA to look at? I'm very new at this and going to need a lot of help to build my first website and make it interesting and appealing like that...but I'm hopeful :) and super excited to be learning more about building website and make it rank well on google. What's the best way to pick up a niche? trending? These may be stupid questions but I need to ask...
Thanks in advance for the answers,
Josie

The best way to pick a niche is to think about what you love enough to write about it regularly. What sort of websites do you like to visit? That might give you some ideas. Think about your hobbies. Many WA bloggers have links to their websites on their profile pages but I think that might be more of a distraction than a help. You will be writing informative articles without promoting anything sometimes, so keep that in mind.

Are you actually recommending against it or just saying it is not necessary if we don't want to share? Is there any risk in allowing this tracking if it is for improvements?

You can allow it if you wish. I chose no as it's just one more thing that uses resources. Granted, it's a very small resource use, but still.

Can my niche be a concept or does it need to be based around a product area? I was thinking of going with a blog about my narcissist mother as I have plenty of content ideas but that's not a physical thing. So I thought I'd promote self help books, self care products and art. But do I need to read every book out there before promoting it?? Do I need to buy every product I promote? If not, how can I genuinely recommend products and make money from them in good conscience? And is this topic/these products too broad?
Reply
StefanC Premium
Hi, it's good to have an idea of which type of products you will promote. But your niche should be based on a topic of your interest. Do a research on affiliate programs in your niche and decide whether it offers a good profit margin. Digital products like training usually pay higher commissions. Books offer lower commission rate and thus, your website traffic needs to be much higher. You have the freedom to talk about products through your research even if you dont buy them. Just be honest and helpful when expressing your thoughts about the products.

I hope this helps, but If you have more questions, just let me know.
Reply
Hi, thank you for replying. What is considered a good commission? Around 5%?
Reply
StefanC Premium
No problem! I consider $20+ per sale a good affiliate commission. You can achieve $20+ by promoting more expensive items or choosing an affiliate program pay pays a higher percentage.

For example, to earn the same revenue, you will need 2x more traffic if you earn $20/sale compared to $10/sale.

From my experience, selling products that will pay you double is much easier than doubling your traffic.

Sure, you can. You are in full control and you can move your website to any host that you want.

In saying this, the Managed Wordpress hosting you have access to here at WA is matched by very few hosts in the industry in terms of quality, security, speed, and support. It definitely is not a budget host like the other shared hosting companies out there. The hosting you get here at WA is comparable to $250 per MONTH hosting packages.

You can learn more about it here:

For now, just think about what passions or interests you have. for me that set of figures would say information gathering rather then a long way down the buying chain.
so if you are after creating an informational article - go for it.
just check who is on page one and whether you can beat any of them - if not - leave it alone.
if page one is full of ecom big stores then you are unlikely to get in there.
you really are looking for the sort of figures talked about in the training.
the low hanging fruit which is of no interest to large companies or high authority sites.
so have a look at the keyword and decide where it is in the buying cycle. is it right for your site and can you move them from there along the buying cycle towards someone who clicks through on an affiliate link.
good luck if you go for it

Thanks Phil Your response makes a lot of sense and that was what i was sensing. After looking into the first page of the product we have a lot of big ecom stores . There are a few information and review sites are very comprehensive and i can honestly say hard to beat in that regard. So !! the big question is What kind of other strategy can be used to tap in? or am i just wasting my time ??
Reply
feigner Premium
no you are not wasting your time at all.
another strategy is to go for that keyword if it is a product keyword and create a review - tutorial- info on it and then choose several low hanging fruit keywords surrounding it.
these low hanging fruit articles you will be able to get ranked and visitors coming in- you link from them to your main one and visitors may click through - this does 2 things - one may get you sales and 2 google gets to know that your main page is important.
but the prize is to get your articles onto page one of google - ideally pos 1-3 otherwise no traffic.
it takes time with the number you need to produce and selecting the low hanging fruit, but it does work and get you there- with stamina.
go after the higher volumes and, as you have found, if you are on page 2 the visitor has already gone to another site- no traffic.
this is the reason i have now changed my keyword research to the above tactic and it appears to work - even with new sites.
a site with three or four articles and one review ranking at pos 33
site only two months old. so now what i have got to do is to write lhf articles boosting helping boost the review and push it up in the ranking.
i heard the other day that there are three stages for ranking - first machine read which will take two to three weeks - first major ranking - takes up to 12 weeks and 90% final ranking takes upto 34 weeks - so after this if you are not happy with the ranknig - creaet a new article redirect the old articles and go through the loop again.
good luck

Finding a good niche seems like a tough task, but it's actually pretty easy. Actually, ANY niche can make money, so you definitely should not worry if your niche is profitable or not. As far as competition goes, that's also something to not worry about. If there's competition, it just means people are making money. That means you can make some too! As time progresses, new products come out, new technology is introduced, new ideas formed, and each change is an opportunity for "the new kid" to get a foothold and overtake established websites.

So the big question is not "what" is going to make money, but "what do you want to make money with?"

In other words, what are your own interests?
What do you think would be interesting to research and write about?
What do you want to help people with?

A good sentence to help you decide your niche is "I want to help people _____"

Helping people is the best way to make money in any business. Everyone wins. Short of that, pick something that you just find interesting.

There are literally thousands of affiliate programs, products, and ways to make money in any niche or industry if you get creative. All of that will come into focus in Level 3 of your training, so for now, we just need to look at getting your topic chosen, your website built, and then start creating awesome content for your business!

I'm struggling to choose a niche... I have a family (husband and 3 sons under 10) and FT job (which I love, but its in pharmaceutical research/development, process improvement and training/team support, so doesn't feel quite right for a "public" niche - and could probably get me in trouble if I say the wrong thing!). I don't really have any (current) hobbies, although I do try to exercise and I would love to travel more. I hardly ever do, except for work/business trips - usually always to the same European city, and I never get time to see anything when there!... I feel like I used to loads of stuff - gymnastics as a child/teenager, (I was good and one of my sons is also now a keen gymnast), dancing, swimming, scuba diving, skiing, snowboarding! And I did travel in my 20's, Asia, South America and lived in Australia for almost a decade, but that's my "past" and previously exciting life! Right now I feel like I just "get by" juggling life! ... Any ideas?!

I do like helping people, and I'm a pretty big believer in "you get out what you put in" (or "you get back what you put out") so try to be positive but fairly often fail whilst juggling life with my four crazy boys (and yes - I definitely include my hubby in that group!)

What about a site involving work travel? This is just off the top of my head but what about offering tips and tricks for the work traveler? Things like planning your flights to provide a time to relax or ways to do some sightseeing while traveling for work?

I'm not sure how to monetize it off-hand....maybe partnering with destination attractions or ticketing services, ride sharing companies and so on. Maybe offering affiliate links to items of use to the work traveler (i.e. suitcases with battery packs, etc.)

Just a thought. Since you do it, what can you think of that might work?
Reply
SaraElliott Premium
What about the gymnastics world? There is a lot of attention on the sport lately (good and bad) and since you have first hand knowledge of being a gymnast and also being the parent of a gymnast, I would think that could give you a great niche to start with! Also, remember that your 1st niche or website doesn't have to be your only one!

And you could monetize it by using affiliate links to all kinds of things; equipment, additional training, clothing, hand/foot wraps, floor mats, etc.

Keep us updated! Hope you find something that works for you!

This is definitely something I'm considering, I already started to research a bit on other "gym mums", most have girls so there probably is a bit of an opening for a "boy gymnast mum"... he actually does a ton of other pretty "non-traditional" activities for a boy - dancing (currently ballet and modern, but now wants to start tap too!), drama and singing, diving (from a board/platform into a pool - not scuba!!)... I think there could be something here as I always struggle to find clothes for him suitable for his dance and gymnastic training... it's always so.... girly!... and he just... isn't!! He is not yet 8, absolutely solid/ripped (will beat his 9 year old brother in any strength contest, even though his brother is also strong and an orange belt in kick boxing!!). He's just totally "found his niche" in these activities!... hmmm, I'll definitely have to build on that thought!

Thanks but not really my thing... never been much of a shopper or fashion follower... Working from home with three sons under 10 who do a ton of activities, I live in jeans and trainers/sneakers!!

Thanks - this one I hadn't thought of... could be something there, for sure. When I started out in my career and whilst living in Oz I travelled almost weekly (and between states, so nearly always flying), it's less frequent now but I have still got a few good tips and many I still used today - pack smart, hand luggage only, even for a week and with the liquid restrictions!... get through security in record time, make your flight despite still being in PJs at home 90mins before take off!! Oh its all coming back to me... the stories I could tell... Thanks!!!

Niche I'm thinking of. Home supplies for disabled kids. Ex: bed pads, nebulizer masks, otc meds, specialized devices not covered by insurance, things specifically designed for kids. Help the parents find things all in one place. I'm in the field and know there is a need for it but....affiliates, Etc? Don't know . I have found things for my past clients through Walmart before and I they have an affiliate program. All comments welcome...

I like the idea. Don't know if I've seen anyone try that yet.

Yes, Walmart does have an affiliate program. Not sure, but you may find some things on Amazon as well.

Spurhilt,

Wow that is a great niche. Good luck with that I am thinking success is coming with that.

That's a great niche and I'm sure you will be able to find useful affiliate programs. You will need to do a ton of informative writing in addition to sharing products. That was a challenge for me. I'm three months in and just getting the hang of writing informative articles.

When choosing a domain name for the .siterubix. is the choice available or not available, ours or not ours, only within the .siterubix., or is that domain name one that is an official world wide web URL domain name? If it's only for .siterubix., can free starter members purchase a domain name that will transfer to the www?

.siterubix is not a www.domain.com website. You can purchase a domain name from WA for about $13.99/year. When you do that, you will be able to have a website without .siterubix as part of the website address. There's no rush to purchase a domain name. Everything will transfer over easily when you are ready. I wouldn't bother to purchase a domain name unless you are going to become a premium member. Unless you are already very, very good at creating websites and making money from them. The community help comes with a premium membership.

Hi,,
If I upgrade to Premium member today at the 61% discount ( $16) do I have to select the premium billing now? There are 3 premium billings,
1. Monthly
2. 6 months
3. Yearly,

Put it differently if I were to immediately select monthly option can I change it to 6 months or yearly before the first month is up ?

You can start with monthly and move up from there at any time. You will actually receive credit for what you have invested at that point so its a win win.

When choosing a name for a website Like I love to cook and the latest cooking pots are the "fast pots" I call them "SMART Pots" because they are multi functional and programmable. But I also want to be able to add a cookbook to my site and other Cooking related Items as well.
I guess my question is how would I make a domain that would cover where I want to go with my site? Do I just make a domain that would cover just one idea and add the rest ?

FranNicholls,

This is a good questions. Although, I may not be as far you but I have the same issue. My niche is going to be geared toward men. it is such a board topic. I mean I know men are impatient and want things quick so getting him to come to a site, purchasing something and then waiting. When I think of men I think on impatience. I guess I need to ask that question now.

Hi, maybe you could use kitchen in your domain, or cooking, like smart cooking dot com or happykitchen dot com

Hi - to be honest, people find your site in Google by searching for the keywords in your content, not by its name. Pick something cooking/kitchen related and just make sure it doesn't contain a brand name, such as Instant Pots.

You're right! I'm extremely impatient! Go simple, as simple and efficient as possible

Instead of the saying "one stop shop" you could say "one pot stop". One pot stop....Cooking and kitchen simplified

My time is running out to ask questions. I’m struggling to find a niche that I want to write about and will have affiliate products. (I’m an author and am
Passionate about writing but there are few affiliate programs for writing fiction and fiction writers don’t spend a lot because we make little money writing fiction). I am just stumped. And since my hubby lost his job, I’m hesitant to sign up for premium without a solid niche plan. I thought about fitness but I’m not certified in any fitness area nir do I have medical training. I thought about parenting but I’m not sure there are enough affiliate programs to make any money. I’m feeling a little discouraged.
