We are now getting into the FUN stuff! Search Engine Optimization, also known as SEO!

You have your website in place and now you want to make it SEO ready so that search engines can find it. Our goal is to get ranked in the BIG 3 engines, Google, Bing & Yahoo. Do note that our focus is going to be primarily on Google though as they own over 65% of all search traffic, and over 95% of mobile searches.

But why do you want rankings in the search engines? Simple...

Website Rankings = Targeted Traffic = Revenue!

The rankings are the first step in creating an online revenue stream.

Today we are going to walk you through the set-up of a Wordpress plugin that is going to do a lot of the "dirty work" for you and will take care of the optimization of all your website pages/posts, meta tags, and other aspects that search engines look for when ranking your site.

I have created a video walk-through of this training and please follow along as it will add a lot of clarity to how SEO works, but also how to install the All in One SEO plugin.

DISCUSS THIS VIDEO HERE: Setting Your Website Up For Search Engines

Task 1: Set-up All in One SEO on your site

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a very important aspect of any website's success.

In this task we are going to be setting up a plugin that makes our website code (the stuff behind the scenes of our website) friendly for search engines like Google so they can index and rank our sites properly. This is going to be very powerful for your website content getting ranked in search engines going forward, so DO NOT skip this task.

Since you activated the All in One SEO within the last lesson, you should see the "All in One SEO" item with your main menu now in your Wordpress back office. If you mouse over that menu icon, a sub menu will pop out (see below).

Simply click the "General Settings" link. This is where you will be going to set-up your SEO settings for your website.

The main section you are going to be updating here is the Home Page Settings section. There are two sections that you will be updating there:

  • Home Title - This is the title of your website that will show up when you get ranked in Google and other search engines. This won't actually show up on your site.

You want this to reflect the actual title of your website that you created with your site, but also add something to make it a bit more captivating.

Ideal Length: 40-60 characters, keep under 60
  • Home Description - This is a description of what your website is about and how it will benefit people. Don't overthink this part, you just want to be descriptive as to what your site is.

    Ideal Length: Under 160 characters

Although there are a TON of other settings, you are not going to need to update any of these at the moment, not for SEO purposes.

When you are done updating your Home Page Settings, scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click the "Update Options" button (as shown below).

Upon doing this, you are done. Your website is set-up and SEO READY! :)

A few important points things to take note of here about All in One SEO:

  • You DO NOT need to "Upgrade to Pro". The free version is more than adequate for your needs.
  • You won't see these changes to your actual site. The work is done behind the scenes within your websites HTML code. It is making your code friendly for search engines.

Awesome, your website is all set-up for SEO now! As you build out your new pages/posts, they will automatically be optimized for Google and other search engines.

In the next lesson we are going to be discussing KEYWORDS, the root of all of your rankings and success online.

I am thinking of upgrading to premium one day, but I read some comments that if people cancel their membership, they lose everything they had on this platform, that including the Starter profile and THE WEBSITE they built.
Is the last part true? Let`s just say I go to premium and I make everything right, and in two years I have the site making me good income, so I don`t need the training anymore, and I decide that I don`t want to spend $49 a month anymore. Would I lose the site?
Thanks! :)

P.S. I am sorry if it is written in terms of use or somewhere and I was too lazy to find it. I just really prefer to spend some time exploring the training right now.

If you have your own domain you will not loose anything you just going have to pay to upgrade your level up but to make a long story short you will not loosing nothing just making sure you buy you a domain 13 or 15 dollars then you good

You would have 30 days to move the site to a new host if you decide to leave premium.

Here's the complete break down of what happens if you are premium and you leave and decide to come back at a later date.

Keep in mind with the yearly plan you save $229 over the monthly price and it works out to less than a dollar a day with the yearly plan.

If you have your own domain, you just have to move it to another host. If you have a siterubix domain, you can't have the domain name - because it's not yours, but you can move the site to another domain. So it'll have a different URL.

Hi there, in short, there are many benefits to staying after you are done with the certification training. There is so much more to learn. Thousands of hours of video training/tutorials and more.

Now, if you decide you do not want to pay for the membership, you will have 30 days after you cancel your account to move your website to a different host.

You will always have to pay some company for hosting and will always have to pay for your domain. A domain will cost 13 or 15 dollars a year so that is not much.

Here at WA though, premium members get free domains so you do not have to pay for that, unless you want to.

With the cost of the membership, you get training, a community, webinars, as well as site support, site security, top notch servers, Technical support, mentors/coaches and so much more! So many of those things will cost you extra at any other hosting company.

Wealthy Affiliate is much more than a hosting company. Not to mention the earning opportunities as a premium member!

You get all that and more at the cheapest price there is! If you pay for a yearly membership, that brings your monthly cost down to only $29 a month and if you are serious about sticking around, it is worth it to pay once a year... you save about 40%!!!

All the best to you Teodor :) Looking forward to seeing you around here as a premium member ;)

Thank you for the deeply explained answer! I appreciate it.
Truth is I am just a bit sceptical when it comes to paying that amount of money (I know I should invest in courses and webinars, but when a man does not have much...) It`s scary and overwhelming in the beginning.
But I am probably going to give it a try, just not right now, as I can`t afford a (half)yearly membership at this moment.

TIPS for those going through the training like me.

1. Be logged in to your web site while watching the video. The web site will open in a new tab.

2. Pause the video after each step and complete the step on your own web site rather than trying to remember the whole video at the end of it.

3. PC users a fast shortcut to switch between tabs on most browsers is CTRL-TAB. This will cycle back and forth each time you do it.

Kyle,

Someone needs to proof your web page. Notice the typo.

"also knwn as SiteRubix"

Most people wouldn't notice it because our brains unscramble letters it knows to be missing or wrong. "It deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe." You can see my point, that ability is called, Typoglycemia, we all that the ability, with the exception people with Dyslexia.

Just sayin, you might want to fix it....

This was a fun lil comment to read :)

I wonder if this "typo" of Kyle's is basically a purposeful abbrev?

Even in the case of a "typo" it goes to show that we are all human and need to feel confident that while we are not true "editors" we can still have great quality websites.

Kyle teaches us that it is okay to make mistakes in our typing because what really matters is not our grammar or proper use of English or spelling errors, but it is our ability to help, inform and relate to our readers.

Hope this helps you to not worry so much about yours or others mistakes either, it will all be okay :)

Not something I would be too concerned about.... mistakes happen.

I've finished the 10 lessons of the online entrepreneur certification, and I'm not quite ready to upgrade to premium. I really learned a lot, but I didn't really get much clarification on the type of content the website should have.

Should I build my website out more like a blog or like an online store? I guess what I'm trying to ask is should I be writing a ton of blog posts within my niche until I could possibly be ranked? Also, do you have to be ranked to begin affiliate programs?

Thank you in advance,
Elizabeth

Hi - content is the key to attracting Google's attention and therefore getting a higher ranking. Consistent posting of valuable and informational posts is what you should be doing now.

If you just add products without any reviews, articles or opinions, you will just be another shop among the millions already out there.

You don't have to be ranked to join affiliate programs, but they will expect to see content on your site, at least 10 posts.

Hi Liz, (if I can call you that)

I was confused about this when I started too. Ultimately it depends on what you want your store to be, if you're selling products through an ecommerce strategy (i.e. dropshipping or print on demand) then posting blogs isn't your number 1 concern, though it can be a massive source of traffic and I personally recommend it.

If you're going for the affiliate marketing strategy, which is just links to other websites that you get commissions off, then really you want to make blogging what your entire website is based around, as this is how people will find your website and make you money. This is what WA is designed for and what they teach.

Personally, I combine the two in a fairly unique way.

If you want help to think about where you want to take your website and what ideas you should pursue, as well as how to write your content, feel free to DM me and I'll help you

I'm just starting to use Jaaxy, but I'm not seeing what is being shown in the video. The QSR is not loading automatically. I have to click on each button separately to show the QSR results. This is with using Jaaxy Lite with Premium membership, while the video was showing Jaxxy Starter with basic membership.

Is this the new normal? If so, this will certainly slow down my research.
Reply
Amelita Premium
Yes it is normal and actually quite helpful as we do not need to know the QSR for all keywords.
It helps because in looking at keywords and trying to decide which one to use, we can more easily focus on the ones we choose to "search"

Hope this helps

Question on Niches. I have a desire to create a niche within a passion I have. I also have a desire to build an agency type business (ultimately) assisting SMBs with business development. I have a narrow segment in each area.

Would I be better starting out with my narrow segment passion niche or would I be better off with my narrow niche business-focused niche?

I think you will want to hold tight to those passions as you move through the course. When you get to the niches, you will probably be surprised to find them listed there and learn which way to go on the Agency thing. Hope this helps. Keep having fun.

I am not very familiar with your niche but the good thing is that there are various ways you can do your research.

Amazon, for example, is a good example where you can find products you can possibly market in the future.

One of the ways you can monetize your blog is affiliate marketing, ad sense or google ads.

As for the success of your niche, you probably need to check the marketability of your niche. By that I mean is if there is a demand for such.

I am sure there is since a lot of parents are struggling to teach their children and are clueless about parenting/teaching. But do not take my word for it and still verify through research.

If you still have any questions, try asking the community as well, by using the Help Center.

Could someone help me with thoughts or ideas about the following? Still, need help with choosing a Niche/Audience?

There are 3 audiences I would like to target:

a) people who want to quit their job or fire their boss
b) newbie affiliate marketers
c) people who want to travel more

Do I start with "quit my job" b) "affiliate marketing for beginners" c) "travel" for initial search and then continue to get more targeted?

Hi there and congrats on starting here at WA! I would look at the three options you have and choose the one that will draw someone's attention initially. For me, I first looked at the "quit my job" option because that's my goal and its something that would make my life much easier and take some stress away. Then go from there in order to continue to draw others in as well as keep the audience you already have. Best of luck to you!
Reply
QuirkyMom Premium
I think it would make the most sense to go in the order you'd have to implement those steps in real life. So you'd probably have to do some research and least learn the basics of affiliate marketing BEFORE you'd be in a position to quit your job. And most other people could not quit without first knowing what they're going to do when they quit or having built up some income/savings first. Traveling would probably be last.
Reply
MurphysMom Premium
Hi, the first thing you want to figure out is which area are you most interested in. From there you can brainstorm thoughts about that niche.

i.e. People who want to quit their job-
What type of job, what age group of people etc.

You can brainstorm each area you’ve mentioned.
Narrow your niche to a targeted group...as Kyle reminds us, there are billions of people on the internet and each person has their own interests.

Hope this helps!
Reply
webcash2us Premium
The first two are tough niche's because it's already a saturated market, that doesn't mean you can't be successful, but it means it's a tougher sell than the travel market.

The thing is, you will be writing plenty of content on your site, so you want the subject to be about something you know about and enjoy discussing regardless of what that may be.

You want to narrow the niche down, if the niche is travel, you can narrow it down, as in travel destinations or travel luggage or traveling by train or 5 star travels, etc...

I created a blog that touches on narrowing down your niche. Having a narrowed down niche is key, you want it to be specific and have great content information value for your readers. I hope this helps you.
Reply
feigner Premium
why not start with all three - peopel who want to quit their job and start affiliate marketing because they want to travel more.
this is still a large niche and you would be targeting a niche that combines all three of your requirements.

Absolutely what I was thinking about the first 2 being saturated. However, I feel like I could write a bunch about that particular topic (quit my job) just due to my experiences with a past employer. In fact, it's the reason, I don't ever want to work for someone again aside from many other things, but it's initially what got me seeking out opportunities online.

From not being allowed to use the restroom, watching elderly people being treated poorly, toxic environments, unfair working conditions, positions being created for people who didn't have much tenure while others who did had no chance of making it even with more experience, lack of compassion, micro-managing, favoritism, watching co-workers get yelled at out loud in front of customers for little things and the list goes on...(Abusive Authority)

I guess you could say I've developed a disgust for people having to work for employers of this caliber.

All while these are the people who are really working their tales off while others reap the benefits.

People missing out on children growing up, wanting to spend more time with their families and loved ones, relationships strained, ...

As far as the other 2 goes, I don't know much except with affiliate marketing I'm still learning and growing and with travel, I would love to do it but don't have enough experience to elaborate.

Thank you so much for your insight and sharing that article with me. It has definitely inspired me and although "quit my job" it's saturated I believe the post reveals some passion with that subject.

Do you think that would make for good content? and then offer WA as the solution then diversifying along the way?

If you’re well known under that name, maybe you could use it to start. I can see your site appealing to a certain niche, especially if you include something like a blog with tutorials on how to paint (even if it isn’t high art, people can learn from your process). You could link to the art supplies you use, and maybe have another section with other spiritual materials related to angels or self discovery. Books, even!

Do we have any way of knowing that affiliate sales are really being registered and tracked, as well as honestly credited to us? Something from our end rather than just what the sites we send people to report back to us? I've always wondered that.

I checked one affiliate program that uses a 24 hour cookie, so you get credit for sales within 24 hours of clicking on your affiliate link. After that, no credit. May people who research products will take longer than 24 hours to purchase it.

Also what if someone has cookies blocked? Then you just get no credit?

I hope the training will address my questions but I want to get them down while they are fresh.

Thanks everyone.

Tracking can be done inside most affiliate programs but you can also create unique tracking links and track them elsewhere. You can track pages using Google Search Console and Google Analytics.

Amazon uses a 24 HR cookie, but there is a way to get a 90 day cookie from Amazon and that is by using an add to cart feature on your website.

Most other affiliate programs I know of are usually 30 day and up to 90 day cookies being offered. I have a few private programs that I use that offer lifetime cookies and lifetime clients.

Amazon requires you to allow cookies to use the platform, if you block their cookies you can not use any of the services that require you to sign into the platform including the shopping cart and proceeding to checkout.

Hi guys!
I`m new so that might be a silly question but just to clear my head:
niche is connected to a webpage or an entire website?

following the baby nappy example in the video:
is my website going to be about baby products in general with one page about nappies or the entire website will be infos and links only about nappies?
thanks
Reply
Mubs1 Premium
Baby products is the general niche and then baby nappies would be a sub niche.

When starting out you want to focus on a small sub niche. So you would start writing posts relating to everything there is to know about baby nappies.

Once you see that google is ranking your articles you can then go on and start talking about other baby products.

This strategy will give you the fastest traction.

Your entire website is about baby products but there will be pages dedicated to just nappies.

Hi - you don't actually need any experience, as the platform is designed to walk you through every step, and along the way you are given tasks to do, which slowly build up your website.

There is a lot of writing to do, but you don't need to be an expert. You are taught to do it as though you were chatting to a friend. There is a spelling and grammar checker to help you as well.

There are lots of older generation and retired members here.

Yes you can.

Every new skill seems difficult at first. But with practice it becomes easy. I have joined WA just about a week ago and here are my honest observations -

1. WA has the most comprehensive training on affiliate marketing available on the internet.
2. The community is awesome and very helpful towards beginners.

Just be patient, learn by heart and implement as well as you can. You'll definitely succeed.

No worries, I didn't know what a niche was either, after a few days going through the training, things will start getting clear.
But for now, I will tell you that a niche is your targeted audience for your website.
For example, if you create a website and you want to talk about Golf for people over 40, then that is your niche, you will be targeting golfers who are over 40 years of age, and so you will write Golf content targeting those people.

Or you can just go for golf equipment that, where you will just be discussing and recommending the best golf equipment

I hope that makes sense.

Hello All!

I'm just getting started. My issue with this sort of program is I could only ever promote something I feel passionate about and could get behind.

If I look at products that I myself use and would recommend to friends or family, often I see commissions of as low as 2%.

So I imagine to really make something like this into a business, you would have to drive massive amounts of traffic to your site.

That's difficult to do in this day and age with so many others out there trying to do the same thing. You want a "niche" but others will likely be there already.

Just thinking while I type.

I like the site so far and will continue to read.

Hi Colin,

It's never too late within a niche. It is a common belief that there are too many people out all doing the same thing, but this is untrue.

Kyle wrote a blog post recently, in which he talked about this very subject. He used golf as an analogy. You can read it here: There's room for everyone in this business. Have a read of Kyle's article.

Hello everyone,
This is my first post here!
I have just recently joined WA and at the moment I am trying to organise everything together in my head. I have few ideas about how to find my own niche as it seems to be the most important foundation for your first step, as often people disregarded the importance to find the right niche as for ex: keyword search, good titles, website metrics, etc. I hope I will learn every single step of this process at WA. As I keep reading the comments and watching the videos, I clearly see that there is a really great helpful and kind community on this platform.

I use the Notepad program in Windows. This allows me to type notes to myself or copy & paste something from the lesson. Notepad is kind of old school but I'm used to it. I use a to-do list app on my phone if I want to remind myself to follow up on something that is time sensitive.

There are other programs like Evernote or Google Keep that do similar things. Try a couple of them and see what works best for you.

For instance , if i was to do a niche about chess...
is chess my niche or should i go further in depth like 'chess pieces' ext.

The niche depends on you but you need to keep in mind you will need to create content on that niche. You want your niche narrowed down somewhat but not to the point you quickly run out of things to write about.

Hi - you don't pick your niche from a list, you have to think of one yourself. It should be something you are passionate about, as you will be writing a lot of content about it, and wouldn't want to be bored.

Hi guys, I’m looking for opinions on my niche

So I’m passionate about fashion, formal wear to be specific
You know the toastmaster/Jamesbond kinda dressing

So the aim would be to make it like the complete thing, so for instance the suit, shirt, tie, shoe, formal coats and the like
(Of cause one one would be looking for one item say a shirt only)

I know most people are often switching to casual these days but there are a few classic men and women out there who are still fond of the dressing like me, maybe for work or descent occasions

What do you guys think?

Hi Jimmy, your niche is amazing, I have a suggestion, since its a very broad niche, why don't you start with formal wear for ether for men or for women, and then as time goes by and your website gains authority, you can add other things.

I think you could create content advising people how to put a certain look together, but when you link products you could link them separately, like shirts ties and shoes.

It's a great niche that's for sure, and especially if you think you can find ideas for great content.

All the best

I would appreciate opinions on a niche idea.

I have become a total fan of a little known pair of mystery authors. They have a series (I own all of it). There is also 3 or 4 smaller series on the side. Characters from one series keep appearing in the other ones. A deep sense of family emerges and you rapidly become involved in all that these two masters write.
I have read other authors and none can create a sense of mystery, depth of characters, always bringing some fantastic bit of history to the present scene and unexpected twist of plot.
Could I promote these author's work?
Reply
adreyna Premium
Certainly - that's a very interesting niche idea.
Reply
SnazzyIT Premium
Definitely, you can have a masters of suspense site, where you can review their books and any other authors.
Your niche could be focused on book reviewing and writers pay you to review their work, although you focus on the two authors.

You can come up with some cool site names.
Reply
J-KWest Premium
Yes, you can absolutely promote their work. You do want to make sure there is an audience searching for their work though.

There are two sides of your niche you need to consider though. The topic/niche itself and also the audience.

Then you want to think about what kind of problem you can solve. This is important. People are happy to spend money when you are solving their problem, but not so much if you're just entertaining them or trying to convince/sell them something.

And when I say solving problems I don't mean curing a disease. A problem can be as simple as someone who loves to read mysteries but hasn't been able to find the right author or series that resonates with them.

So if you're promoting authors or books, the key is in understanding your audience and being able give them what they want.

And "promoting" isn't always the best word to use because in some ways it implies "convincing"... and the last thing you want to do is find yourself trying to convince your audience to do or buy something.

You want to find an audience who already needs or is looking for the exact thing those authors/books can provide. And of course this applies to any niche.

Along the way you'll end up convincing people anyway, but your energy is far better spent targeting the right audience in the first place (which you would do by choosing keywords that represent the searches of the audience you're looking for).

Hope that helps :-)

Thank you for the reply! Question: On my web site, must I list individual books or can I promote the authors/series and still get a commission on a sale? Can I have multiple stores on my site like Barns & Noble and Amazon?
Reply
Ropesa Premium
Absolutely, you can and you should because you sound like you are passionate about this.
Reply
J-KWest Premium
You could have multiple stores, but if you were using contextual links... links to your affiliate offers within your content, you would only choose one. And you'd want to choose the most popular.

At one time, and I'm not sure this is still accurate, but Amazon/Kindle had something like 70% of all online book sales, so you'd definitely want to stick with Amazon because most people already have an account with them.

For example, if I was reading a post that recommended a book I wanted to buy and I clicked a link which took me to Barnes & Noble, well... I've never bought a book from there before. We also don't have Barnes & Noble in Canada so I'd probably go off on my own and buy it from Amazon because I already have an account with Amazon and that's where I've bought books before.

In that situation the person who recommended the book would not earn a commission because I left the place they were recommending and went somewhere else to buy the book. I didn't leave Barnes & Noble because I didn't want that person to earn a commission (9 out of 10 people wouldn't even know a commission was being earned)... I left because it was far more convenient for me to buy the book from a place I already had an account and relationship with.

Now, if that article had just linked to Amazon in the first place (instead of Barnes & Noble) I would have landed on Amazon's site (which I'd probably be logged into automatically) and since my Amazon account already has my payment card and shipping address set up... buying the book would be single click away and the author (of the article) or website owner would earn that commission.

But there's more, because I may have been meaning to pick up a few other things from Amazon but just hadn't gotten around to it yet. Now that I'm there though I might order those things as well and the author/website owner would also earn commissions on those products (even though they weren't promoting them and their website had nothing to do with them).

So it's a bit of a numbers game. If Amazon has 70% marketshare, you'll get the commission 70% of the time someone buys a book using your affiliate link, plus anything else they buy from Amazon within a 24 hour period.

If your link is to Barnes & Noble and the remaining 30% marketshare is divided up by everyone else including the ibookstore, Google books, Indigo etc. Barnes & Noble might only have 10% marketshare. You'd then only earn commissions on 10% of the buyers who used your affiliate link with no opportunity of additional commissions from unrelated products.

There could be places on your site where you listed multiple stores but that would be too redundant to do for every mention of every book/author.

Hey David, I'm pretty sure your monthly payments come out automatically. I do mine annually through PayPal so I'm not 100% but pretty close... 99% :-D

As far as following, the follow me button is to follow individual members so if there was someone specific you wanted to follow you'll kind of have to back track to through those comments. In most cases you'll see those people post a comment again in another thread and you can follow them then.

David you can click on those you didn't follow in your profile, just click your own image to go there. Once in your profile click on all the green follow me buttons you see. Secondly, you can adjust your sub payments in your account which can be accessed if you hover over your small image on the left hand side of your profile menu. Click on the account settings and follow the options.

Hello, WA team. I'm completely new in this world of affiliate marketing and I would like to know what do you think about create a niche related to self-development? It would be focused on "help young and not so young people to find their passions in life". I seriously want to create something useful and powerful linked to this niche. Thank you!
Reply
Kyle Premium
Don't worry Benjamin, we were all new to this at a point in time. For me that was 17 years ago, but the reality is that you are just as capable of building a business online as me or anyone else.

Self development is a trap niche, as is the "life coaching" niche. Whom do you want to help specifically, self develop what? Someone looking to develop better skills in their relationship with their spouse or someone looking to get over their fear of public speaking, or someone looking to......etc?

You need to narrow this down to something that is more specific.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Do not worry about being knew to this venture or any other venture. Sometimes that works out for the better because you have no preconceived notions about the whole process,so take what you learn and run with it. after all you are not alone.

Hi there,
I have a question about "Niche's.
Let's say that I have chosen make-up as my Niche, what happens when the make-up Niche is not successful? I know that things like this question will be covered throughout the courses but, will there be help with making the Niche that one has chosen get off the ground and running? Is there a partner Niche that can be done? I guess the "term" to use would be like either piggy backing ? or working with another person to earn revenue from the same Niche? I'm sure that these are silly questions but, I am always ready and willing to learn and absorb new information. I really want to learn how all this works and start a new journey for my kids and I. Thanks so much for taking the time to review and answer my questions.

Hi Rebecca,
I can't imagine make-up not being successful, lol. That's something that will never go away.
Why don't you narrow it down a little to start? Maybe something like make-up for older skin types etc. And when you've earned some authority there, you can expand into other skin types. And further, expand again into skincare etc.
The trick is to find a domain name that doesn't limit you to a small niche and lets you expand down the road.
There are millions of products that you can promote with affiliate links, so don't worry about sharing. This is your business and you deserve all the profits!
Make sense?

All niches can be made profitable/successful depending on if it is your passion or not.

If it is not something you see yourself doing for years to come, rather pick something else.

Once you get thoroughly set in the course work at WA, you'll learn how to make it successful and what you need (research etc.) to make it work.

A partner niche may work, but do not limit yourself to one specific topic. There are many unique niches that will pique your interest even though it doesn't appear so at first.
Reply
J-KWest Premium
Hi Becky, there's definitely a lot of money to be made in the make-up niche. A significant amount of money. You might find it's not the right niche for you and in those terms, it's possible that you don't find it to be successful, and that completely okay.

I think (although I haven't done the research) that the make-up niche would be a community niche.

For example, each niche has it's own unique traffic sources and I think you'll find a lot of the traffic coming to a site in the make-up niche will come from social media, sites like Pinterest and even YouTube if you decide to go that route in the future.

On a side note... you don't want to build your business on those platforms because they (those platforms) control all of your traffic, they make the rules and with a simple algorithm change people have lost their businesses overnight.

So you still want to follow the training here and then use those platforms as tools to help you drive traffic.

I owned a fashion site for awhile and I was shocked by the amount of traffic that came from those kinds of sources and the networking that goes on among people in that niche. It's a real community.

Now, I know absolutely nothing about fashion. It was a domain that I purchased and used as an outsourcing project so I hired writers. But it was difficult to maintain because I had people reaching out to me about a topic I knew nothing about and didn't really have the time to learn.

Which brings me to the main point I wanted to make...

It's not a big deal if you decide to change your niche.

I ended up changing that site to more of lifestyle blog but found that was just too broad of a niche and difficult to monetize. Eventually I shut it down, changed domain names, and started a new site.

Before that I had a site in the "benefits of good sleep" niche which I found difficult to write about (I liked the topic and thought it would be fun and helpful, but it was a lot of research and sourcing medical studies and journals).

Prior to that site (and finding WA) I had a blog that I wrote about the disruption of technology in our economy. Again, it was a difficult to get traction with that kind of topic and monetize it.

At one time I had 2 - 3 dozen different domain names and more than 10 sites in various stages of completion.

Each time I learned something new. Most of the time I learned what NOT to do, which is just as important as learning what you should do.

So... the moral of the story so to speak, is that it's okay if your first niche doesn't work out. You may find you can pivot to something similar. You might want to change completely. Or... maybe you find that it's the perfect niche for you.

I know at the time (because it felt that way to me too) that you're doing all this work and what if it doesn't work out. But that experience you're getting and the development of new skills are the very thing you need to succeed. Those are things that will make you an expert at this, and your skills and experience are what ultimately make you money online.

It's a critical part of the learning journey and finding what works for you. The goal isn't necessarily to knock it out of the park right away.

When we were young in school and later in our careers, mistakes were discouraged. As solo entrepreneurs though, mistakes are not mistakes... they are critical to our learning process and finding the path we were meant for.

Hi - to be fair, no matter which niche you choose, you are likely to find other websites covering the subject. That is why it is recommended that you narrow it down, so you can be seen as an authority and have less competition.

However, you are bringing your personal touch to the subject, your opinions and experience, that is the aspect readers will enjoy. Don't choose a niche because you think it will be more successful. Go with your instincts and let your enthusiasm shine through.

I just finished watching the videos on choosing your Niche. Being new to this entire AM journey, I am definitely excitedly overwhelmed!

I am very passionate within, health, fitness and beauty industry and it makes sense to choose this as my Niche but my question is this:

if I would like to follow the Boot camp section can I do so at a later stage as you mentioned that you don't recommend doing both the OEC and Boot camp certificates?
or would you recommend I start with the Boot camp program and then move onto my Niche?

Hi Mijuane,

Yes, you can. The more you learn about Wealthy Affiliate, the more you will want to join the Bootcamp and add Wealthy Affiliate to your product/service portfolio.

You can join Bootcamp at any time.

Hi - it is recommended that you don't try and follow both the training courses at the same time as they are quite in-depth, and you would need two separate websites. Trying to add content to two sites on a regular basis can be challenging and time-consuming.

Many people find it easier to start with their own niche, as it is easier to write about a subject you are passionate about.

The Bootcamp training concentrates on the money making online niche, and specifically, the promotion of WA. If you are new to marketing, trying to come up with articles on this subject can be difficult.

Of course, once you have completed one training, and have your website up and running, you can then switch to the other.

Your suggestions for your own niche are very broad, you would have to narrow it down. Health, in particular, is in the top three niches and is a competitive market.

When you become a Premium member, you can link to your websites and social media in the 'Follow me on' section on your profile page, in the right-hand sidebar at the very bottom.

You are not permitted to blatantly advertise your website using links anywhere else in Wealthy Affiliate.

If you are linking to something relevant and helpful to the community, then that is acceptable. You are linking to a website that is aimed at getting more traffic then that will be frowned upon, and you may lose posting rights within Wealthy Affiliate for a period.

Hi guys! I am new here and need some help, please.
I have one question. I already posted two articles on a blog created by myself on Wordpress. What would be best now? Continue there or start over here on this platform? What are the advantages and disadvantages? What would you recommend?
Thank you! Have a great day! :)
Reply

You don't have to use the website platform here if you don't want. You can use an existing site that you already have set-up with the training here or you can start fresh.

Sometimes with an existing site there may be some things that you have done in the past that could be hurting your rankings (backlinks, spun content, duplicate content, low quality content), so starting fresh and doing things properly from the start can be advantageous. But this is totally up to you.

Because your website is so fresh that you started, I would recommend that you consider starting over here and doing things correctly right from the ground up.

Either way, I am here to help you along the way Amalia!

I joined a couple days ago and I'm a bit confused as to what the format of the website should look like. It sounds like it's going to be more of a blog... but I thought it was more of like a sales website so that people can purchase items through your link? Does anyone have a website I could look at as an example?
Reply
YvetteC2 Premium
Welcome to WA. It will all be explained as you go through the training. But an overview is your website is going to be several articles you write around your niche. The whole goal is as you continue to write consistent content using great keywords, you rank in search engines. The goal of ranking is to gain traffic. When you gain the traffic, you can become an affiliate for companies in your niche. At that point, you can start to post links in your articles. As your visitors read and click on your affiliate links to purchase items, you will obtain commissions from their purchases.

If you want to take a look at someone's site, go to their profile and look down the side under "Follow Me On". If their website is listed, (some people list their websites while others do not), you will see it there to click on and visit. I hope this information is helpful.

Kind regards,
Yvette

I have been writing for several clients who are Amazon Affiliates. I have written about nearly anything you can think of. I enjoy doing the research and writing the articles. I think it is time I was making more money by being an affiliate myself.

What I have in mind is a website with a title something like We Do the Research for You, and promote any product that receives a lot of interest online. I did a Google search and found humidifiers are an item currently receiving a lot of interest. I thought I would start with that.

Hi, thanks for this wonderful site you have! I just have a question before I create a website, when you talk about a niche, do I necessarily have to choose something that I can sell online or I can have a niche say about my passion, like sketching for example?
Reply
Mubs1 Premium
Passion niches are a good choice because you will never get bored of writing about them.

Just make sure there are people searching for stuff related to sketching (keyword research)

I'm pretty sure there's things related to sketching you could promote.

You could just make it an informational site and monetise it with ads.
Reply
You could try promoting markers! Or other sketch related stuff...
Reply
As the training video for understanding choosing your niche suggests, try searching for sketching and see what things are associated with it. Products like types of paper or drawing tools would probably be a great start. I'm sure many people love sketching and to do it you need supplies!

This might seem like a mundane question, but do you suppose it is possible to earn a little money as a starter member? I would love it if I could do that and then upgrade to premium.

And will the training be covering how to get affiliate offers and put up links?
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
Yes, that is all covered in the training. As far as making money as a starter member, it is possible -- others have done it -- but they typically came to WA with previous knowledge and experience. If you don't have any marketing experience or know how to work with WordPress, it would likely be difficult without the support of a premium membership. The first month is only $19, though, and that would give you plenty of time to check out the entire program and see if this is really for you. Hope this helps :-)

Hi Aqsa,

Thanks for your question.

Let me give you a comprehensive answer, alright?

Based on my vast experience and helping 1,000’s of people to get started, I can say the following:

It’s possible to make money with a Free Starter Account but it’s MUCH easier with a premium membership.

The reason is that with the premium membership you’ll get everything you need to make a life-changing income online:

1. Training
2. 24/7/365 Support
3. Expert Mentoring from Successful Online Entrepreneurs (Learn more here: )
4. All high-quality tools (Jaaxy, managed website hosting, SiteComments, etc.)
5. And more…

Another thing that I’ve often noticed is that people who are always just looking for freebies, aren’t really committed to succeed.

You may not be like that. But the fact is that most who only take the free will never succeed because they’re not willing to put in the work.

I’m paying myself for the premium membership and it makes me more than 100 times more than I put into it. Check out my post below: Summa Summarum:

Yes, you can make money with the free membership BUT

You’ll make it most likely much faster with a premium and earn much more.

That’s what I’ve learned over the years.

Feel free to ask me anything also in the future! I’m here to help you to succeed.

Also, if I absolutely HAVE to have a static page for the home keywords and description, is there any way to put my latest posts on my static page?

I am enjoying reading what the others are thinking of for their niche. I have been thinking about what my niche will be for a while. At first I too was leaning towards weight loss, or diet aids. I am almost 60 years old and have been blessed with good genes and up until 3 years ago I had no wrinkles. I am thinking about facial regimes for women of all ages. Is it feasible to begin with products for each age group (teens, 20’s,30’s, etc) or would that be overwhelming? I have other ideas too, so many choices, please tell me how do I choose?

I think that could be a good niche and the ages of the women could be part of the categories. Narrowing down a niche is important in that you can target specific products and the audience that would be interested in those products. Hi - the next stage is to wait for Google to find your website. This is called indexing and can take anything from two days to two weeks. You will receive an email when this happens.

There is no point applying to affiliate programs yet because your website is not visible on the internet and therefore, they won't be able to inspect it to see if it is suitable.

Plus, most programs will expect to see a good amount of content on your site before they approve you. At this stage, you should be concentrating on writing articles.
Reply
Kyle Premium
Hey Gabriel,

It usually takes 7-14 days to get your site initially indexed in Google (sometimes quicker). That is completely normal.

As you build out your website content and as you get engagement on your website, it will only continue to get indexed quicker. Google will continue to grant you more and more authority as they deem your website to be of value and before long you will see your new content getting indexed almost instantly.

Just part of the process and you are absolutely heading in the right direction. :)

I figured as much. No biggie at all: it will give me plenty of time to update the site and make it look nice, as well as fill it out with information so that people take a look at all that I've got on there.

Thanks for the info! It is most certainly appreciated~

I am thinking about changing directions and maybe joining the affiliate bootcamp and to promote wealthy affiliate. I was wondering, if anyone has experience with this: how different is that from doing my own website and will I get the same amount of success in it or is it more limited in making commission?
Reply

If you are just getting started, it will take much longer to rank a site in the MMO (Make money online) niche than in other niches. You should probably get a successful site in another niche before you tackle promoting WA. IMHO, others may disagree.
Reply
siamjerry Premium
It is a good idea, but only when you have had the necessary experience with your own website. Only after half a year experience I started bootcamp. The principles of the marketing are the same, however, at bootcamp you will be promoting one product only viz. WA. There is now way to forecast which website will give you the best profits, as this entirely depends on your personal choices and efforts.

AJTrimble1 Premium
Two questions:

1) Is affiliate marketing your true passion, or are you just looking at it because you think you can make money?

2) What experience and/or knowledge do you have about affiliate marketing in general?

If you "ooze" sales and marketing with every fiber of your being and you have the knowledge to share, then I say go for it. But if you are just doing it for the money, it's going to be a very tough road.

The make-money-online niche is extremely competitive, perhaps THE most competitive out there. And it will actually most likely take you longer than a hobby or interest site.

Don't worry about making commissions right now. You should be focused on finding your passion and creating content around it. The commission part comes later.

Look at it this way... you can have all the ads and affiliate links in the world, but if there is no one there to see them you still won't make a dime. Your only focus should be on building an audience.

Making money is (eventually) the easy part. What's hard is getting a steady stream of traffic. And for that, you need great content.

Yes, you might want to narrow it down to e.g. essential oils for acne or something similar. You will have competition as I am sure I recently commented on a post on essential oils. I do not see the need for multiple websites.

I think that might be okay.

I took the liberty of running a query using the Jaaxy research tool -- you'll learn how to do this as you continue with the training -- and even the base niche keywords (essential oils, aromatherapy and essential oils, etc.) all run pretty good numbers already. And I'm sure it will get even better as you narrow down to specific oils and other more detailed keywords.

Just keep working through the training and you'll be fine :-)

I think essential oils is good enough for a niche, but you could potentially narrow it down to a type of audience, like essential oils for cooking, essential oils for natural home remedies, or diffuser reviews.

Hi Danielle,

Would you mind sharing what idea did you have in mind for the niche? (You can private message me if you want). It's good to spend some time in deciding on your niche before you fully commit to it, so just that you are happy with the niche you've chosen.

Your niche should not be too broad but broad enough so that you can branch out and get good content ideas.
For example "Cars" would be a broad niche, even: "Sports cars" could be a broad niche. But something like: "How to Repair a car on your own" could be a good niche, because you could write about different parts of the car that could be repaired and you are setting a tone for your niche, which is repairing cars. However if you choose: "How to repair transmission for the car" - that could be too narrow because you can then only talk about transmissions and can quickly run out of ideas.

Just wanted to give you an idea. Let me know if this makes sense.

I have narrowed it down to 3 potential niches, they are kind of all over the place, lol:

1) Sneaker Culture
I love sneakers, probably too much. All accessories actually, sneakers, belts, jackets, hats...

2) Social Media Marketing
My main business is Web Design/Development but I have been wanting to move more to just doing Social Media Marketing anyway so this may be a good move, it will integrate my efforts here at WA with my main business.

3) Basketball
I love Basketball, but this Niche seems like it would be really difficult to work. What could I sell? I am not going to push sketchy how to get a 30" vertical videos, and I think trying to find and convert traffic for clothing sales at Nike etc. would be hella tough.

So now I plan to do some market research to see how viable these three options are and then choose from there.

**If anyone has experience in these or related niche's and would like to offer some input I would be grateful.

**If anyone can give me some guidance or tools to use to help in researching keywords etc. for these 3 niches to compare their viability that would also be awesome!

Thanks to all who took the time to read!

Cool set of niches, I think the Sneaker Culture one is interesting because people do love to shop around for those kind of shoes. In the UK we tend to call them trainers but folks will go quite a long way to find something unique.

SM marketing would probably be better and maybe and even though I'm no expert you'd be better off maybe looking into the Affiliate Bootcamp, though it depends on what you want focus on.

Even those who have a fair bit of know how have found this site to be enriching. All the best in what you plan to do :)

Any reason not (other than perhaps splitting focus and finding the time and energy to build both) to build both from the beginning? I'm thinking I would go through process as I continue to decide what niche I want to develop.

Hi - yes, you have 2 free websites which you can work on for up to 6 months.

It's not recommended to try and do both sets of training at the same time. They start off broadly the same, but then take off in different directions and get more in-depth.

Trying to apply each one to a different website can be challenging, and adding content to two sites at once is very time-consuming.

Decide which subject you would be more comfortable writing about - your own niche or money making online, with an emphasis on promoting WA.

Good advice Diane, and pretty much what I expected, but wanted to get perspective from someone with experience! Thanks!

Hi, I’m not sure what’s the best niche for me? Because I already have a niche bout Jobs Advertising website in Laos (I think it isn't a success, which I can earn little money from it). But, I’m interested to have 4 more niches :)
1) Continue to improve my Job advertising website in Laos
2) Real estate of Laos website ( which I have a facebook fan page and I ever made 3 sales in the last 2 years and I have about 30 lands&houses; data on phone)
3) Travel website about Laos’s country
4) Teaching the Lao Language
5) an E-commerce website selling Lao products

These are all profitable ideas Vannalee. I would encourage you to choose one that you feel much comfortable with it. The niche that you are passionate about it and you can naturally discuss about it. It would be good if you can focus on real estate since you had two years experience dealing with this business. Break down your niche to a very specific or target group so you can easily write your articles.

Hi is it possible to pay the premium with my debit card or is it necessary to only use credit? I can't use my paypal as of the moment because it's not yet verified until 5 days. It won't be able to fit the 59% off the first 7 days because this is my second day already :(

Hi Essactlee,

Being a recent Premium Member myself, I also paid for the first month of the Premium Membership with my debit card and it worked perfectly.

Please let me know if it worked and welcome to Wealthy Affiliates!

Hi - unfortunately, I don't know how to resolve your problem, but please be aware that although the first month is only $19, from then on, it is $49 per month.

If you can't continue with the payment, then your account here is closed, you can't go back to being a free starter.
