We are now getting into the FUN stuff! Search Engine Optimization, also known as SEO!

You have your website in place and now you want to make it SEO ready so that search engines can find it. Our goal is to get ranked in the BIG 3 engines, Google, Bing & Yahoo. Do note that our focus is going to be primarily on Google though as they own over 65% of all search traffic, and over 95% of mobile searches.

But why do you want rankings in the search engines? Simple...

Website Rankings = Targeted Traffic = Revenue!

The rankings are the first step in creating an online revenue stream.

Today we are going to walk you through the set-up of a Wordpress plugin that is going to do a lot of the "dirty work" for you and will take care of the optimization of all your website pages/posts, meta tags, and other aspects that search engines look for when ranking your site.

I have created a video walk-through of this training and please follow along as it will add a lot of clarity to how SEO works, but also how to install the All in One SEO plugin.

DISCUSS THIS VIDEO HERE: Getting Your Website SEO Ready

Task 1: Set-up All in One SEO on your site

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a very important aspect of any website's success.

In this task we are going to be setting up a plugin that makes our website code (the stuff behind the scenes of our website) friendly for search engines like Google so they can index and rank our sites properly. This is going to be very powerful for your website content getting ranked in search engines going forward, so DO NOT skip this task.

Since you activated the All in One SEO within the last lesson, you should see the "All in One SEO" item with your main menu now in your Wordpress back office. If you mouse over that menu icon, a sub menu will pop out (see below).

Simply click the "General Settings" link. This is where you will be going to set-up your SEO settings for your website.

The main section you are going to be updating here is the Home Page Settings section. There are two sections that you will be updating there:

  • Home Title - This is the title of your website that will show up when you get ranked in Google and other search engines. This won't actually show up on your site.

You want this to reflect the actual title of your website that you created with your site, but also add something to make it a bit more captivating.

Ideal Length: 40-60 characters, keep under 60
  • Home Description - This is a description of what your website is about and how it will benefit people. Don't overthink this part, you just want to be descriptive as to what your site is.

    Ideal Length: Under 160 characters

Although there are a TON of other settings, you are not going to need to update any of these at the moment, not for SEO purposes.

When you are done updating your Home Page Settings, scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click the "Update Options" button (as shown below).

Upon doing this, you are done. Your website is set-up and SEO READY! :)

A few important points things to take note of here about All in One SEO:

  • You DO NOT need to "Upgrade to Pro". The free version is more than adequate for your needs.
  • You won't see these changes to your actual site. The work is done behind the scenes within your websites HTML code. It is making your code friendly for search engines.

Awesome, your website is all set-up for SEO now! As you build out your new pages/posts, they will automatically be optimized for Google and other search engines.

In the next lesson we are going to be discussing KEYWORDS, the root of all of your rankings and success online.

Soooo.... something new for me here. I published my Privacy Policy on a new siterubix website as a page but it is not showing up on the pages list. I cleaned up all of the 'dummy posts' from the initial creation of the page and may have done something then to prevent the page (listed in my pages) from showing up on the home landing page. Any suggestions?

Hey Carl, most likely you can't see it because you haven't set up your main menu, provided you published your content and not just saved it as drafts; some themes do it automatically, others don't.
Just go to "Appearance" in your dashboard and select "Menus", create a Primary menu and you will be able to add it there by placing a checkmark next to every item you want to show, and click "Add to Menu". Make sure you click "Save Menu" and it will then show on your front end.
Blessings!

I am curious about choosing my interest, niche, etc. I have a current online business that I am interested in taking to the next level but am not convinced there is enough material to really blog about for very long. When I compare it to a hobby or niche like gardening or outdoor sports etc... there is definitely just not as much material.

So, anyone have thoughts on what makes a good interest to use? I have many so I am curious if there is a list of ideal characteristics for this primary topic.

Go to large online networks such as Amazon, Facebook, twitter to find current trending topics and products to help you to decide
Reply
You can pick whatever you want, you can eventually start more than one site, example: You can start with gardening and after a while you can go over to a niche that is a bit in the same niche. You develop your niche grow it bigger.
Your welcome if it made sence to you.
Have you started your website already i lesson two?

Hi Kevin...

Pick something you have a big PASSION for...if you see holes in what's trending you can then fill those holes with new information that will cause them to dig deeper into your niche subject. Find a problem and a way to solve it for ppl.

Checking out things that are trending on Facebook, Pinterest, You Tube, Instagram, Google, etc....and it will help guide you as to where the 'holes' in the niche are. If you don't know much about your subject, dig deeper by searching out other blogs on Google, Facebook, You Tube and others and do a bit of research and development to go further.

As an example of my success...
I left a comment on another person's blog in my niche, who was in the UK, and a fellow found me 18 months later there in the comment I left and realized I live only 1 hour away from him!! What do you think of that?? Ha ha!! Only with the power of the internet!!!

Does this help?

I just watched the video on keywords search. And there is one thing I am not clear about. I understand that the more AVG (traffic), the better, and the less QSR (competition), the better. Now in the video we are shown a keyword that has the lowest QSR and high AVG, but it is said to be bad because the grammar makes no sense. Another example (list basketball skills) also had high AVG and low QSR, but "made no sense". I don't understand why we should care about the grammar or anything else if the result (AVG and QSR) is good. I would appreciate an explanation.
Reply
SeanGreentre Premium
Hi there.
It's a valid question. However, if you are to incorporate these high traffic, low QSR keywords or phrases into your page or post titles or body text, then they have to make sense to the reader. Also, the search engines will mark you down for incoherent sentences or phrases, as it wants to recommend useful content, not content that makes no sense or is clearly trying to leverage keywords because the phrase makes no sense.

I hope that makes sense? :-)

Hi,
Not sure, but it sounds like you haven't created a menu yet.

In your dashboard go to Appearance/Menus. Name and create a menu. Add the pages you want to it.

Now make it your primary menu. (that might be on another tab)

Refresh your site.
If that doesn't solve it, let us know.

Go to Appearance > Menus and add them to your menu. Then they should show up on your Home page.

And yes..just as Margaret said...you have to make sure your post/page is not in draft form and you have published it.

Does this help?

The training on this site is awesome I am starting lesson 8 the videos are so helpful.
I was a little overwhelmed in the beginning but the ease of doing it in my own time and being able to go over what I didn't get the first time has made building my website easier little by little.
I still have a long way to go but instead of being overwhelmed I look forward to it.
I am so happy I found this site.

I'm going through this training again right now, but I'm in an odd situation, because my site had already been built...so I'm trying to backtrack to make sure everything is covered.

What I've been doing is building new pages...I hired someone on Fiverr to write custom code to my pages so that they can allow comments just like posts do...then I just saw this training, in which Kyle mentions posts being the way to go.

My question then is - does it matter if I continue building out pages, now that I have the comment option in there the same way my posts do?

Or should I switch over to start writing just posts? I thought posts were specifically for your blog, and pages were mainly for reviews, etc...

Whatever is going to be more Google Index friendly is what I'll do, but am wondering if there's any difference now that I have the comment option in both posts and pages anyway. Thanks!

littlemama Premium
Pages are more for evergreen information about your niche or site info pages like contact, privacy policy, etc. Posts are for everything else and they show up on your blog roll. Pages don't show up on your blog roll and you have to add them to your menu or side bar for them to show up on your site.

Anything you need to find out should be asked or researched on WA first as there are many posts/trainings for you to learn from instead of going to Fiverr. You can just turn on comments for Pages without hiring someone to write code to turn that on.

Another difficulty that I am experiencing. I am straggling with writing About Me post. E.g. the template expects "Share something about your life that is could be interesting and relevant to your niche here". What if my life has nothing to do with the niche? Is my life story here really necessary?
Reply

Not really, you could still add a section about you, what you like, and why you choose to do what you're doing. If you don't want to add that section, you could go into detail about how to intend to help people within your niche.

Could even add an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) bit in there as well.

Hi, Dmitriy.

Are you asking about All in One SEO Pack by Michael Torbert?
https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

IF your domain is hosted on SiteRubix, yes, the free version of that plugin is available. (I have the free version on my SiteRubix-hosted domain).

If your domain will be hosted elsewhere, I don't know whether it would be or not.

If not, maybe you could try Yoast SEO.

I'm sorry if this didn't answer your question. Maybe try Live Chat? There are usually some very learned members hanging out in there, answering questions.

there is some confusion with 'rubix', the hosting here is SiteRubix so that means AIOSEO is available free both on the free .siterubix.com sites and on the own domains hosted here

I don't know if it is a free plugin on other hosting, you could check that - and sometimes it looks like it is asking for payment when really it is already installed

So is having a blog/website on such domain still get us good rankings on Google and pay off well? because during my research on this matter i found that google prefers domains that are owned .

Because cannot really invest in buying a domain at the moment.

would really appreciate some honest answers from people who already working and earning from any siteRubix domain websites and in comparison if they also have a self owned domain.

All help would be appreciated

Hi there,
You are absolutely correct about using domains and sub-domains. Google does prefer a full domain. However, that said there are thousands of people here at WA who have made highly successful sites from those on Siterubix sub-domains - Kyle included! Google won't ignore them. So don't let that hinder you. Choose a sub-domain for now. You can always change it to a full domain later down the line if you so chose. The support team here can help with that as and when you're ready.

Good luck.

Hi Muazzama, Welcome to the community. In my personal opinion, it is better to start with SiteRubix for free. By the time you finish lessons and earn from WA, you can convert it to a personal domain. to find what you've published to your site just click on pages and posts and see what is in there

things to consider are creating menus so the pages show up, he will get to that in the lessons or use the search bar top center of this page

Heh, Frank. You 'my story' is the same as your About Me page. In order for it not to come up with your Welcome Page, you need to have your menu done. Your menu is where you add your About Me Page. Just remember to click on Save!
You will probably need a plugin to move your privacy policy to the bottom. There could be other ways if your theme allows for it. You can look in customize your site to see exactly what you can do. Hope it helps

Hi,
Signing up for affiliate programs gets covered eventually in the lessons.

I think they wait to explain it so we have some traffic on the site before setting up the links.

Most affiliate programs have an affiliate program webpage that you sign into and have your own account at.

They are all a bit different, so you'll have to read about your affiliate programs. But they are all the same too, in that they give you links that you use on your website. If someone clicks your link then the company knows that you sent them traffic and you get a commission on any purchases made within some time frame.
Reply
MozMary Premium
each affiliate program has their own rules, some of them want you to have a website with a lot of traffic and some allow new websites with no traffic to join, so if a program allows you as a newbie then great

there are different opinions about when to add links to a site, I've seen people be successful with links early

Thank you that really does make sense.

I never knew that...I know if you sign with Hot Topic you have to give them your own website link. I can send BlueBanana and Gamiss if I have to make a website for their programs. Thank you for your advice I appreciate it a lot.

You don't really have to search for those other keywords. Just your main keyword. The others will come naturally as you write. Just as an example, take the keyword "improve your golf swing". As you write you will naturally talk about "gripping the club properly", "proper follow-through", and "where your feet should be for the best swing". All of these are new keywords in your post that people will search and you could gain ranking for. I came up with those off the top of my head, and I know nothing about golf! If I can do this on a subject I know nothing about, you can certainly do it in the niche of your choice. Hope this helps.

Hello. I was wondering if iPhones will be a good thing to promote. And since they do make new iPhones frequently, that I should keep the name of the website broad. And what is 1 on 1 coaching? And I do hope to succeed and not get too overwhelmed with the instructions as this seems to be the best and only option to make a decent amount of income with a legitimate affiliate program.
EDIT: Also, how many a hours a day do you have to be on here to make sure everything goes along, like the website and the income?

Technology is usually pretty competitive. You usually need be an expert on it. Just think about the amount of content you'd be writing about. Not trying to scare you away from it, but maybe you wanna do a search for more info. Look at your future competitors, and stuff like that. Here

Right. I know quite a bit with iPhones and would be learning the new things on the latest iPhones.
Thank you.

Nice video, Kyle! I am struggling with figuring out my niche...

I am a travel agent so I would love to talk about travel but I don't travel enough,,
I am also a foodie and interested in a writing something about food but not sure how to go about that...
Reply
maybe you should do something like advising people on travelling (where to go, the rules in other countries, etc)
Reply
aburrows10 Premium
Thank you soo much! That really help. Do you think it would be too broad if I just did a travel guide on countries? like which currency they use, some activities they can do on destination, an area on traveling on a budget, an area for elite travelers, some cultures or etiquette, some traditional foods, fun facts.. any feedback would be great!

I think I have selected a good niche. Now I have to make sure to set up my website so that it can generate the sort of traffic and sales and thereby commissions that will help me set up additional sites in other genres so that I can maximize the revenues that come to those who diversify.

hey everyone;

This is my question... My husband is an incredible Master Goldsmith and for 20+ years we owned a jewelry store, so Custom Designed, rings would be right up my alley, however my heart and interest would be with helping 3 of my youngest 7 children improve their focus (they tend to be in the ADHD area of attention issues) so I would love that to be my niche. But how could that produce an income that could keep me home with them?
Reply
TDBauer Premium
There are a ton of products out there that help with ADHD. Books, supplements, specific toys and learning tools. Go to Amazon and type in ADHD in the search and see a bunch of possible suggestions pop up... all of those can be promoted as an Amazon Affiliate.

Woo Who! Thanks TDBauer! I might be on to something!

I got stopped at making a website. I really don't want to sell other people's products. I'm a painter and I want to use my own site to sell phone cases with my work on them. It's a niche within my broader area of fine art paintings. So looking to see the best way to promote my site for this niche.

you can always learn the art of selling online by promoting other peoples products.
Once you have it 'cracked' then you can add yur products, thiswill lessen the pressure you will put on yourself to make and mrket your own products.
You can still build up a following with others accessories and build up the launch of your products.
Good luck with what you decide to do

Hi there, I am still struggling to find the right niche. Is there someone in here that could give me a couple of tips on how to choose mine? I
have already been thinking on few of them and even started my first website on pet rabbits' care and products. However after thinking it for a while I do not know how profitable can this niche be. Would you recommend me to go on with this niche or to find an alternative among my other interests below?

-Travel
-Gaming
-Pets

Which one of those would you recommend for my first website?
Thanks!

Which one are you determined to see through and enjoy enough to write a lot about? That is the one that you want to go with. Profitable is something that comes in time based on your efforts. Getting the right amount of traffic might take more work on your part to find if it is not a trending or pretty common one, but that extra effort will come easily if it is a topic that you enjoy and are determined to see through.

Hi,

I would recommend diving a bit deeper into those categories. Like if you choose travel, think of where, what type of travelling, you know. Example If you like travelling in your local area, focus on sites to see, great places to eat, etc.

Hope this helps.

The pet rabbits care and products sounds good to me. My advice is to make sure you really have a passion for the niche you choose. Otherwise you will struggle later on creating content for your site. If you can create quality content, regularly you will attract traffic and your site will be a success! Best of luck to you

Hey! I'm on a Starter Pack as well and I think securing a niche has to come from what motivates and fires you up from within.

So for example, if Gaming is your thing - what about Gaming do you enjoy? Do you enjoy reviewing games before its release? Or do you enjoy bringing back games from the 80's and you know where to get those games?

So, I'd say go with something that you find great enjoyment in! Hope that helps!! :D

Thank you all guys. This has made my decision easier. I have finally decided to go on with my first choice. I think that there is not as much information and reviews on it as it could maybe be in the Gaming niche. I do already have some ideas for a few articles and I will stick with those.

I appreciate that you all took a minute to help me on this one ;)

So if I already have my own domain name, would I still follow the same setup by using my own name under the on a domain I own or register a domain? Also would my own domain name have a different affect on how I advance through the program in building and launching my own website?

If you already own a domain yes you would go to on a domain I own. It will do everything for you. And no either with your own domain or site Rubix, you will progress the same. But having your own domain you will be indexed on google.

I felt it is hard for me to finish this lesson, because when I try to create "About me" content , I google many websites and articles, want to learn something from others, then I think too much and try to make my writing perfectly, then I found it is hard for me, I am not good at writing at all
Reply

Don't worry Lori,
we all start out like this, you want everything just perfect
Remember that you can always go back and edit or rewrite it later.
This doesn't mean that you can get sloppy and post anything - it still has to be the best you can do nom, but if you learn something new or feel you need to update the information in the future then you can do.
Leave it for a few months and then reread what you have written.
one of te things i do is to read the post out loud, if you stumble or hesitate then rewrite that part.
write something every day - even if it on your computer for 15 minutes, getting into this habit will make your writing easier, learn how to improve your writing - learn one thing every day and use it in your daily writing.
What do you writye about daily - whatever you want - if you get stuck look around and pick an object, write down how it makes you feel, describe it so someone else can 'see' it through your writing, why did you buy it, does it look good where it is - well you get te idea.
With this you should not run out of ideas for your free writing.
good luck
Phil

Don't try so hard, no one is looking for perfect and if you go by those standards, you are setting yourself up for failure. Say what comes to mind, be honest and go with the flow. You can do it.

Based on which criteria google ranks your website?

1. how relevant and effective your content is to the preferred keyword.
2.Current traffic to your website?

If you are using a low competitive keyword, does this mean that the keyword is infact competitive because there is a higher pool of potential visitors/buyers I might potentially let go?

All visitors who visit may not necessarily purchase, instead of targeting low competitive keywords, increasing probability of buying by targeting highly competitive/traffic key words make sense?

google ranks the pages and posts, that's why the keyword strategy is in play...

1. is correct, that is how google will rank your posts/pages

see Jvranjes and Boomergp08 for extra training on keywords, jvranjes just got a brand new site onto page 2 and 3 with his first two posts and it was a competitive niche and his site was up there sitting among the ecommerce sites...he shows what numbers he used to pick his keyword in his WA blogs

I want nothing more than to be successful and I'm willing to put in the time. My biggest problem I see right now isnt the time its the money. After Irma (Hurricane) caused my house to catch on fire having my family lose pretty much everything.(we are living on the couch at my dads house, I lost my computer and much more, because I rent Im not getting any help from FEMA! So, Im using Dads computer now. Its gonna be extremely hard for me to come up with anything extra!) Will I be able to make at least enough money to start so that I can invest in myself, so in turn, I can get my family back on track? I guess what I want to know is with one of my sites can I earn enough to be able to pay the monthly membership and eventually get myself another laptop?
Reply
CraigW315 Premium
I really hate to say "it depends" but... it depends.
You can definitely make money enough to pay for your membership and buy a new laptop, but the question id how fast can you do it? It normally takes a little while to get rolling.

What I might suggest is if you can, try to get people to sign up with WA and start earning commission. If you can get a couple of people to join and go premium that can be used to pay your own monthly membership.

First of all, sorry about what happened to you. And you will probably earn enough money to start again, but it takes time and effort. Just keep it on and don't give up

Yeah what you put in is what you get out, so think about how much progress you could make if you dedicated 8 hours a day even for a week, that's 56 hours, basically the more you work on it, the faster you'll make it basically

So very sorry to hear of your losses!

I agree with Craig - the quickest way to EARN is to get 2-3 people to sign up monthly under you here at WA....this will cover your monthly costs!

I recommend some old fashioned "Offline" recruiting:

1. Ask any and all friends and family and church members with adequate moneys to help out

2. Print out info info sheet with your Wealthy Affiliate Hyperlink (find under white Airplane top right dashboard) - post at supermarket, colleges, churches, hair salons, golf courses and gyms etc (get permission first)

3. print out business cards once you get 3 joiners - drop one on coffee shop table etc - just ask question - need to earn money since the hurricane? - then have your joining link on reverse

These are just a few ways I started earning before the longer term website earnings started!

If you need any more personal help, please Private Message me or check out my Profile Page "Follow Me On Links" on the bottom right hand column under my trainings.

Hope this gives you some hope!

Barb

PS It is our Black Friday Sale so for anyone well-off promote the $299 annual membership fee price as just 82 cents per day ...less than a cup of coffee!

Check out Easy-Moneys response, which is really good.
As others have said, the more work you put it, the quicker things will develop, but keep in mind that for many people it takes at least 6 months to get rolling, if not longer.

I don't say that to discourage you; you could certainly do it faster than that if you put real effort into it. I just want to to know that success could be not too far off, so don't give up.

Hey Debra first off, I'm so sorry what you've gone thought with Hurricane Irma, It must be tough, I really feel for what you're going through especially having children and trying to keep everything together.

Please, select a niche that you really enjoy, this is about you, you building a business around something you will enjoy doing and not to pressure yourself about money. The reason why I say this is because I know from experience, I've began businesses before with wanting to know about the money and for me it can really damper the mindset.

Once I took that pressure about the money out of my mindset and focused on building my business the money just comes naturally.

I think this article here will really help you out by starting off in the right foot.

Also, you can get referrals here at WA just by blogging inside this platform. You can talk about your experience here as a member and your grow. Many members here have gotten sales and referrals this way here including myself.

Your whole goal is to build yourself a business and WA does an excellent job getting your there.

Awesome video on how to find a niche. This video just handed me my niche. Something I am passionate about and have been doing for the past 20 years. Coaching girls basketball. I have coached elementary to high school varsity girls. I also attend many collegiate women’s games and know some collage players. I have coached young ladies who have earned scholoaships to 4 year schools which includes my oldest daughter. My youngest daughter currently plays basketball on a club team here in Greece. I was recently added to the coaching staff as an assistant coach for my daughters team here in Greece. I have also coached elementary and junior high club teams in California and Arizona.

Thanks so much for handing me my niche.

Can I merge two templates? Somehow I have a About Me template and a Welcome to my website template. Can I combine them or do I need to start over, now that I understand a little better?

Since you called them templates I assume they haven't been published, in which case you can just copy to your clipbord the content you want to appear on the one you intend to publish and paste it on it as you see fit, then when you are satisfied you'll be ready to publish it.
If you did publish both, the process would be the same since you can edit your pages as you wish; in both cases you'll have one left over which you can trash.
Hope that helps!

After you publish your Privacy Policy, you are going to want to log into the back office of your website (Wordpress Admin area) through the SiteManager or through SiteContent. Hi, on the editing panel for every page or post, if you scroll down to the bottom in the All-in-One section you'll see some check boxes, where you can indicate you don't want the page or post to be followed; the privacy policy, and affiliate disclaimer later, are two cases where it's recommended to put a check mark in those boxes to keep the search engines from them. Hope that helps!
