We are now getting into the FUN stuff! Search Engine Optimization, also known as SEO!

You have your website in place and now you want to make it SEO ready so that search engines can find it. Our goal is to get ranked in the BIG 3 engines, Google, Bing & Yahoo. Do note that our focus is going to be primarily on Google though as they own over 65% of all search traffic, and over 95% of mobile searches.

But why do you want rankings in the search engines? Simple...

Website Rankings = Targeted Traffic = Revenue!

The rankings are the first step in creating an online revenue stream.

Today we are going to walk you through the set-up of a Wordpress plugin that is going to do a lot of the "dirty work" for you and will take care of the optimization of all your website pages/posts, meta tags, and other aspects that search engines look for when ranking your site.

I have created a video walk-through of this training and please follow along as it will add a lot of clarity to how SEO works, but also how to install the All in One SEO plugin.

DISCUSS THIS VIDEO HERE: Getting Your Website SEO Ready

Task 1: Set-up All in One SEO on your site

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a very important aspect of any website's success.

In this task we are going to be setting up a plugin that makes our website code (the stuff behind the scenes of our website) friendly for search engines like Google so they can index and rank our sites properly. This is going to be very powerful for your website content getting ranked in search engines going forward, so DO NOT skip this task.

Since you activated the All in One SEO within the last lesson, you should see the "All in One SEO" item with your main menu now in your Wordpress back office. If you mouse over that menu icon, a sub menu will pop out (see below).

Simply click the "General Settings" link. This is where you will be going to set-up your SEO settings for your website.

The main section you are going to be updating here is the Home Page Settings section. There are two sections that you will be updating there:

  • Home Title - This is the title of your website that will show up when you get ranked in Google and other search engines. This won't actually show up on your site.

You want this to reflect the actual title of your website that you created with your site, but also add something to make it a bit more captivating.

Ideal Length: 40-60 characters, keep under 60
  • Home Description - This is a description of what your website is about and how it will benefit people. Don't overthink this part, you just want to be descriptive as to what your site is.

    Ideal Length: Under 160 characters

Although there are a TON of other settings, you are not going to need to update any of these at the moment, not for SEO purposes.

When you are done updating your Home Page Settings, scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click the "Update Options" button (as shown below).

Upon doing this, you are done. Your website is set-up and SEO READY! :)

A few important points things to take note of here about All in One SEO:

  • You DO NOT need to "Upgrade to Pro". The free version is more than adequate for your needs.
  • You won't see these changes to your actual site. The work is done behind the scenes within your websites HTML code. It is making your code friendly for search engines.

Awesome, your website is all set-up for SEO now! As you build out your new pages/posts, they will automatically be optimized for Google and other search engines.

In the next lesson we are going to be discussing KEYWORDS, the root of all of your rankings and success online.

As much as it takes.

you can log in direct from your browser, just put the name of your website in a new tab with yourwebsite.com/wp-admin

and a box will pop up asking you for some login details, these can be got at WA and stored by you outside WA for logging in any time

get your log in details in siterubix>sitemanager>details [that's directly across from the login button on the far right]

Pardon me if my questions lack in clarity as I'm a newbie to All of this.
Question 1: If I were to uprade to premium, would I be able to change the theme etc.. of my starter site without losing the content or would it have to be built from scratch?
Question 2: I wouldn't want to pay to own a domain name unnecessarily before testing the viability of the site. What would happen if I were to eventually buy the domain name? This is regards to the site originally being a sub domain of SiteRubix? Sorry I don't know much(anything
Reply
NyssaB Premium
Question 1- Yes. When you have upgraded you will have access to more themes on wordpress and it is very easy to change from theme to theme.

Question 2- When you buy the domain, you can transfer your free site to the new domain with ease. You do not have to buy the domain right away. If you wish you can continue to use the free site till you think its time to upgrade. Just remember that free sites take longer to get indexed on google so it is recommended to get your own domain.

Hope that helps.

I didn't know that it takes free sites to get a good ranking. Thanks for this information.

Thanks for the clarification, all advice is greatly appreciated

no, what NyssaB said is that a paid domain gets indexed better and quicker and therefore would get better ranking in the search results. A Free site is a Sub Domain, it essentially piggy backs off of the main Rubix domain. Premium gets you free hosting (parking) of up to 50 websites. You still have to pay for your own domain but it's generally only about $13-14 per year. That Domain is yours as long as you pay for the yearly fee. You will simply be 'parking' it here in WA. You can buy the Domains from different places like GoDaddy or NameCheap and others, but you can also buy them here in WA, which is much easier. I presently own 4 Domains but am only using 2 for now. I have two parked here, and will move one other over here soon as it expires at Weebly.com.

yes, it is all straightforward, one click of a button on this platform, they are set up for that

you also have plenty of time to decide on getting an own domain, you are in the training phase now

the free sites will index perfectly fine, it may just take a couple of weeks longer...when you know your niche and are happy with a domain name then any work you've done can be transferred across, it is not lost

How many more levels are there to your premium upgrades and what are the fees level one was free level two is $25 how much is level 3 and 4
Level 1 gives you the place to put idea and puts it on paper but it doesn't open any markets. No affiliates and no way truly to a effectively make money with that site.
So does the 24 95 take you all the way to the last class 2A functioning website or are there more upgrades. I don't mind paying for services rendered I just like to know what they are ahead of time

It is $19 the first month, then it is $49 per month after the first month. This includes absolutely everything you need to create and grow a business online from the training, weekly live classes, he support, the tools, the websites/hosting, the mentoring, network, exclusive access to all updates...you name it.

This includes all 5 Levels (50 lessons of OEC), over 500 hours of video training, 1,000's of training modules, 10,000's of discussions, all 7 levels of Bootcamp, etc.

We also have a yearly option of $359 which is a big discount and that works out to be $29 per month. You can choose either or.

Hope this helps you out Daniel and if you have any further questions let me know.

I am overwhelmed by the number of niches there are, since this is my first venture with affiliate marketing, I thought a good place to start is to market for Wealthy Affiliate. As I progress with other niches and offer products I assume that I need to become an affiliate with different companies in order to market their products. Is that correct? Any feedback would be appreciated and any help choosing a domain name and getting the first site up and running. Thank you! Sydney

I'd recommend you work in a niche you are truly passionate about, there's nothing more dreary than writing content year-after-year about a topic that bores you to tears!

The majority of members start affiliating with Amazon, as they accept "barely there" sites, have a global reach, and a high trust factor amongst visitors to your site, other affiliate programs often require an established site with traffic before they'll approve you.

I wouldn't worry about keyword rich domains or EMDs (Exact Match Domains). It's content that ranks these days, not domain names.

I'd rather have a brand such as http://www.boohoo.com than something as limiting as http://www.buycheapdesignerwomensclothesonline.com

Your domain name doesn't even have to be relevant, if it did http://www.amazon.com would sell river trips and http://www.apple.com would sell fruit! It can even be personal, http://www.craigslist.com :)

That's what I thought at first, but finding your own niche is much more fun. I'm a gamer and I chose my niche as Assassin's Creed. I really love the series, and have a lot to say and contribute to this niche. Pick something you love and can talk about for hours. From what I'm seeing here, to make money and be successful, you need traffic and to have a captivating audience for your site, choose something you love and can expand on. It's not something to jump in to, I haven't started the affiliate boot camp, but it kind of sounds boring, I'd rather research and write about something I love. From my understanding of how this all works it's a marathon not a sprint and you'll have more fun and success if you choose something your passionate about. Nothings wrong, as long as you know your stuff, you'll get people to your site, then you can guide them to things to buy and make money for yourself, through affiliates or advertising. I'm still learning myself, and I don't think either path is more profitable, just sounds like choosing your own niche is more fun. at least you get to write and expand on stuff you know and love.

How do I give the title of my website? I mean, I have written the main content that I want on my home page as "post". Is this correct? Should it be "page"? In my website, my home page content comes as a post with a title. But I want this title to be the main title of my website? Please help me. I hope I'm making sense.

Hello Sukumar, pages don't change. They are static and do not move. If you want that content to be unmoved, you have to make it as a page so that every reads it in the first checking of your website.. Whereas posts will be hundreds plus and more. Hope this helps.

Just check the attached pic. How does one do that??

You need to first create the content as a page. Yes. Then you should log into your site as admin. Then you need to click the button, "customize" at the top there. It should be next to a paint brush. Then from here, click,"site identity" and then"site title". Delete that default title and type in your new title. Then click the button save and publish at the top. Let me know if this is the answer you are looking for.

Make that as your Home page.

The fault was all in my making the content that I had intended to appear on the home page as "post". So now, what I have done is change that to "page". And bingo! Now website looks okay and it has come with the title. The menus are also coming fine.

I have just done that. Silly me, I had to go back to lesson 4 to see what went wrong. I have moved the content in the trash and with the same content (and title), I pasted it on a blank page and updated it as "page". Now everything's coming okay. I have the website title too with the menus arranged perfectly. Thanks for the help! I'll continue building the site. I'm about to finish the front porch of my "home" :)

A slight problem though. Now my website's title is coming and it's the same title which I had put as the title of the content that I updated as "page" like I said. Which is all fine and is appearing the way that I had intended. But I have noticed that once you put up the content as page, my name doesn't come whereas if I update a "post" my name appears with the date on which it was posted. So, if I want my name to appear on the home page itself, what do I do??

welcome back, have you tried unticking the boxes for the activities you already did, that should free you up

I had probs with those boxes before so actually stopped ticking them at one point, but now see the way it is all laid out there on the right, we can navigate really easy to whatever lesson we like this time, forward or back

yep it can be overwhelming at first, just keep asking tons of questions and give yourself time to succeed and absorb everything - it will all click at some point mysteriously when you least expect it :)

hey Steve - can you not untick the boxes to reset the levels?
Alternatively just go through the training again. Keep a track of where you get to and start from there next time.
Good luck this time - maybe pay yearly to keep your mind focused
all of us get a little frustrated - especially when things go so slowly, but follow the training and it will improve.
Don't forget to have a play with test sites to see if you can break them - then you know what not to do with your main site!
As i say good luck this time.

I'm brand new here. I attempted online marketing twice--many years ago.

The first time, I bounced around a lot from idea to idea. The second, I tried building a business writing/creating content for others' websites (About two months). My work was very well-received. I write well, but I am VERY slow (perfectionist), so I wasn't going to build up my income enough to make it worthwhile.

Just earlier this evening, I had the idea to look into affiliate marketing again. I just started working at an Amazon warehouse one month ago; it's going quite well, but I'd obviously rather just make my money as an online Amazon affiliate. :)

WA looks great so far. You can understand that I am highly skeptical of affiliate marketing's potential...this is based upon past experience and the probability that niche markets are overly-saturated nowadays. They were already saturated a few years ago. But I am here (I wouldn't be if I didn't think it may be a good opportunity) and I am open-minded and want to give this a solid try!

You don't have to target the SA market, for example your site could target the USA, Canada and the UK, affiliating with Amazon. and using their OneLink program, which would give you a much greater target audience. :)

Some pages on themes will allow for comments. If your privacy policy has a section for comments then you'll need to disallow them in the settings. Question - I have my first niche site up and running. But as I am doing the work to find keywords for that site, I keep finding keywords (with an AMAZING QSR) that are close but not an exact match. They are connected to an area that's closely related to my first site. It's an area that I toyed with focusing on for my first niche and now I'm wondering if I should go ahead and set that idea aside as a second niche. How soon is too soon to start a second niche website?!

P.S. If you are the type that likes details - I have a site called "Tots, Teens, and Theater" up and running. When I'm searching for good keywords for that site, I keep coming across keywords that would better fit a site focused on the use of drama in the church.

You will always want to make sure that your keywords make sense. You will also want to keep your keywords relevant to the theme of your websites. You don't want to be talking about dogs on technology site (unless you are talking about digital tracking collars, etc).

That's what I thought. The other keywords work with a similar site - also a passion of mine - but they aren't an exact match. They need their own site to work on.

two niches at one time is a lot to take on, most people won't master it while starting when they haven't yet mastered the training, some could perhaps, just make sure you don't end up overwhelming yourself

That was my concern. Niche number one is working with kids and teens in the theater. Niche number two is using the theatrical arts in faith based institutions - churches, Christian schools, etc. I've worked extensively in both areas and doing research for one usually connects to the other. I'm hoping that will allow them to sort of grow together.

I'm curious about what word/description differences are between Jaaxy and the Keyword Tool? Specifically in reference to the column names/titles Kyle is talking about in the training video...

I'm getting confused between what to look for in "traffic" and "searches" and "average" and "competition" for a new blog.

Also, on the Keyword Tool, what exactly am I looking at in the Article & PPC Power columns?? Is there something of importance in there?

Any clarification or links to other keyword explanations would be appreciated... I'm a visual/reading kinda girl and I think I may have gotten lost for a bit in the video I watched (twice!) today.

How do I get my posts to go on the website in the correct order. I named one post "home", but it is now in the middle of the page. I've added some posts since that time, but I would like them to be in the order that I've added them, not going on backwards.

posts go to your blog roll, so either your entire blog roll is your home page and the posts tend to be ordered according to the date you post them, or you choose a page on your site to be your home page

pages go to the menu, posts go to the blog roll [as a rule of thumb]

there are ways around everything of course, but as long as you understand how it works in general, then you can decide things going forward

to set home page go to Settings>Reading and notice in there you have a choice between your front page displaying your latest posts or a static home page

Hello all, this is a very interesting topic and helps me to be more specific in respect of the niche I would like to choose.
My question is: if I want to promote products within my niche in various languages (I'm from Europe, maybe this would be helpful to get more traffic) can I use only one website? Or is it necessary to build several websites in different languages? Thank you in advance for your help!

Good question. It depends on the niche that you want. But for me, I prefer English because your scope will be bigger. What is your niche by the way so I can have an idea?

Confused a bit with these Posts and Pages, i got a question. If i created a main menu and in it 1 of the tabs has sub-menus right, i can make the main tab a page and the sub menus posts....
e.g. the main tab with drop-down menu is called 'Life Lesson'(Page) and 1 of the sub-menus in it is called 'Tip of the Day' (Post)....but if everyday i need to add content to the sub menu 'Tip of the Day' how do i make it a new article but keep it under the same tab if i used a Post to make it?
Reply
MozMary Premium
this sounds confusing, not fully sure what you are aiming for here...

in my opinion, you'd have a very long submenu if you are going to add a post 365 days of the year every year, so how about sending those to your blog?

you say 'tip of the day' is a post, so to create a new tip of the day would be to create a new post...so you are asking where that post goes now?
Reply
im saying i want all those to go under 1 sub menu, all the 'tip of the day' posts to go under 1 'tip of the day' menu but different pages, understand?

Hello all,
I have more of a awareness question. Bear with me, in your privacy statement an email address is added. Fine I've created a new email to mirror the site. My question is in general how to people feel about listing their full name. I know we can but with security certainly a concern how do people feel about putting out maybe "too" much and yet still reach an audience without sounding robotic and cold. Thanks.

I personally don't use my whole name on my website. maybe when I hit it big and can afford identity protection etc. For now I have two standard emails I use with each website.
contact@myowndomain.com
info@myowndomain.com
I use the first for just about everything and the second for questions.
I cannot speak for anyone else though.

Hi guys, I'm setting the "All in One SEO" of my first website. What do you think about this Home Title: "My Gym Bag - Find Your Best Gym Bag"? And what about the Home description: "At My Gym Bag we are focused on helping all sports people through our experience to find the most suitable bag for them" ?

In reference to the above question you pose, I would say without quoting any figures, what would make me happy would be say the level of my traditional day job and what would excel that option would be anything more to give my financial freedom in life.

Currently I am looking to give 2+hours a day daily being proactive with my business, but hope to improve this over the coming future.

when i visit other platforms i see the members show the earning they do in a screen short to encourage other become a member, but why there is no member in this platform does not do the same.
There is no income? i know the main reason of someone to become a member is to look for a way to earn some money.

The way I see it to answer your question, why do you need to post your earnings for the world to see, if they are in fact making money....mmm...I wonder.

Could it be the others platform way of pretending to make money by showcasing their earnings to lure you in to their platform?

Would you or have you ever posted your earnings for everyone to see that you have made from an employer who pays you weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly?

I certainly would not because for one it is not their business what my earnings are from my employer or my business. Not only that but also thats personal and confidential to for my eyes and my employer who pays me.

You know how they tell you in the traditional workplace, you should not discuss your pay with others in the workplace.....it;s kind of unethical.

So, ask yourself why are these other platforms in the online business world posting their earnings for the world to see?

Chances are, its probably fabricated lies. I'm just saying....don't be fooled by their marketing scams because that is what it sounds like to me. Oh yes, there are many out there!

I figure it like this, plain and simple - if an affiliate program goes as far as posting their earnings on their website for the world to see, that's a red flag to me indicating it is a marketing scam to lure people into their platform and once they get them, they will not live to their word of making you the kind of financial figures they advertised on their website.

My advice to you....DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!

You have arrived at the leading marketing affilate platform in the online business arena, that is, Wealthy Affiliate. They are providing their people with the best tools and and top of the line training to ensure we are successful.

WA have around the clock support if you are in need of assistance with anything and number 1 in my book, they care about their WA members! That's hard to find in the online world of business and more so in the traditional setting of business.

It is left up to you to apply what you learn at WA to attain success in this online business world consisting of 3.7 billion potential customers at our access.

So, I say run with it and aim high.

Welcome to Wealthy Affiliate. I wish you much success in your new endeavors here at WA.

lots of people post their income all the time, especially when they have just begun to make serious income having joined a few months ago - but you are only here 5 minutes, so how can you know what happens?

But not everyone is going to show their income, just like anywhere else in life, especially if they make a lot. Everyone is different, and income is ultimately a private matter.

If you can't see the resources for themselves and realize what you can do with them, then nothing anyone shows you will make a difference, the issue is with you.

Also, if one person can make $2000 a month very quickly, it does not mean you can even with the same resources, it will always depend on how much work you put in and what level of skill and ability YOU have...

There are plenty of us making a good amount of income here, but it is no one's business to know how much I make. Those other platforms showcase money earnings to trick people into thinking that what they are selling is going to make you tons of money.

But making money online depends solely on how much proper training you have taken and how you go about applying that knowledge. If you cannot learn the proper steps and put them into practice, you will not make money.

Look at it this way. Do any colleges broadcast how much money one will make if they graduate with a degree? Of course not, because how much you make depends on your personal work effort. Wealthy Affiliate doesn't broadcast earnings because it is just an online college of sorts and everyone will earn differently.

I am having problems watching the video. First they would start and get stuck somewhere buffering.
Now they won't even Play! Now it just says, ''The video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported.''
Funny thing, i am able to access other webpages and videos on other tabs. I am using Google Chrome and yes i have deactivated 'hardware acceleration'.

Anyone has any ideas or suggestions?

Are you on a slower connection? Some of these videos are larger in size and can take a second to render. If you are on a really slow wifi connection, you might get this issue.

You could also try using the SD version of the video, instead of the HD version. The HD version are obviously larger files.

It's saying the video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed, or because the format is not supported. But the videos worked yesterday so I don't think it is the format, and my internet is working fine for everything else. I tried refreshing with no success. Any ideas?

Which one do you guys think would be better ?

Go with what you know first. You can't really give advice about how to make money online if you have never made money online.

Plus, passion is a huge part of success so picking something you are passionate about will help you stay motivated till success knocks on your door.

Once that does, feel free to open up a make money online site and the many other ideas you will have.

Hi

If your going to do affiliate bootcamp first then do a wealth website but if your starting of with the certification. Course which is the green tab marked get started here as I did then do a niche website on art and photography.

After I finished the certification course and got my niche website up and running I started affiliate bootcamp where I am halfway through and have my wealth site up and running. I've been doing this for 9 months so I advise you to concentrate on one site at a time as there's no rush.

Best wishes

either way you'd have to master the training, right now you are beginning the training so you have some time to test out things with your free sites before committing to a particular niche

always take a look at where your interests lie, whether you can write content in your chosen area several times a week, what the competition looks like, and what affiliate programs are there for you...when you try to build up a site in any one niche it soon becomes clear how far you want to go with a niche...and the free sites are perfect for practice

Hi WA community! I've just joined and am really struggling with choosing my niche. My interests are horses, dogs & crafts and my job is bookkeeping. Its much easier to work on a niche if you are interested in it. Especially your first one.

I would pick one of your passions then look it and pick out a sub niche from it. As "Horses" is too broad, maybe something like "horse protective head gear" would be a good fit.

Its a personal choice but the more you know now the easier it will be to comment and post about.

If you have to research each post and answer the job becomes 2-3 times as long.

There will be some research in any niche as you need to source new products and review them and the industry but as a starting point the better you know the subject the easier it will be.

Hope that helps.

Hi Lynda, I think everyone here had this problem :-) if you type this question in the search bar above you will find a ton of advice. In short, the idea behind choosing a niche is that:
1. you need to like it and enjoy it, you will be producing lots of content in this niche (and don't worry, the posts ideas will come as you write more and more) so you better like what you write about.
2. you have "some" knowledge in the niche but do not think you have to be an expert. If you are, that's great but you can always research your niche (online, library, print magazines, YouTube, etc.) and you can write from a perspective of someone who is reporting rather than lecturing.
3. don't overthink it. It's is likely that your idea will shift one way or another as you learn more and more about online business. It's normal. Nobody had it right from the start.
4. Try to be narrow in your niche. You can always expand it later. If you start with a broad topic you may get overwhelmed and the competition might be too tough.

These are just a couple of things that pop in my mind but I do advise to search that question in the bar above.

Best of luck!

Hi Lynda - welcome to WA.
You say your interests are horse, dogs and crafts. And you say that you don't feel qualified to advise people on these.
What was the last thing you bought for your horse and why?
How did you get into horse?
why did you pick the horse/s you have?
what tack do you need to start with?
How do you care for the tack?
How do you care for the horse?
Do you see what i am saying - you have a lot of knowledge that someone who maybe looking to get a horse for the forst time would love to have. You have real experience with a horse, no-one can take that away. So if you decide that your niche is 'hobby' horse ( sorry i don't know the right word for everyday horses rather than show horse) You can start out researching those keywords, and others. You can pass on your experience about owning and riding a horse, caring for a horse , signs your horse is suffering and what to do.
Are you qualified? Do you need to be qualified?
Yuo do every day what people will have to learn to do every day when they get a horse.
Good luck with your niche selection.
Phil

Hey Vojislav,

So you won't see All In One SEO in your sidebar. Once installed, it will be visible in the left hand side menu of your website dashboard (see screenshot).

If you can't see it there, go through the training video to see if maybe you missed something: If all else fails, let me know and I will help you further.

You will find All In One SEO in the admin area of your site in the Plugins, you may have to activate it then it will appear on the left side of the admin menu in the top left. From there you can enter your SEO for your site and set it up, it does have a lot of preset setting that you will not want to change.

CuriousEwa Premium
Hi there! All in one SEO is a plug-in to a website Every member, free or premium has this plug-in installed by default to every website they create. So you should see it in your website backoffice:

You also don't need to do anything with it, it does things for you, things that used to be done manually in the old days I believe. The SEO you refer to is a set of actions you do to your post to rank well and these are: keyword research, keywords in various places (URL, post title, post meta title, post meta description, keyword in content) internal and external links, images with alt tag, YouTube video and a few more
Reply

You have to activate it first and then it will naturally appear. It's a PLUG IN. Don't forget to update it, too.

So I say I have chosen my niche but I'm still REALLY nervous about it and I'm waffling on how to focus it. One of the things I'm most passionate about is the performing arts. I'm a pianist, a theatrical director, and a singer/songwriter. I'm leaning towards resources for those working with teens and kids in theater. But music and theater resources for those working with churches who are on a tight budget is also appealing. Help!
