We are now getting into the fun stuff!

You have your website in place and now you want to make it SEO ready so that search engines can find it. Our goal is to get ranked in the BIG 3, Google, Bing & Yahoo. Do note that our focus is going to be primarily on Google though as they own over 2/3 of all search traffic, and over 95% of mobile searches.

But why do you want rankings in the search engines? Simple...

Website Rankings + Targeted Traffic = Revenue!

This is the first step in creating an online revenue stream. Today we are going to walk you through the set-up of a plugin that is going to do a lot of the "dirty work" for you and will take care of the optimization of all your website pages/posts, meta tags, and other aspects that search engines look for when ranking your site.

I have created a video walk-through of this training and please follow along as it will add a lot of clarity to how SEO works, but also how to install the All in One SEO plugin.

DISCUSS THIS VIDEO HERE: Getting Your Website SEO Ready

Task 1: Set-up All in One SEO on your site

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a very important aspect of any website's success.

In this task we are going to be setting up a plugin that makes our website code (the stuff behind the scenes of our website) friendly for search engines like Google so they can index and rank our sites properly. This is going to be very powerful for your website content getting ranked in search engines going forward, so don't skip this task.

Make sure you follow the instructions on setting this up from this lesson's video. Here are a few things that you want to remember:

  • You can update this at any time within your the main menu (the link to the All in One SEO set-up is just under the Dashboard menu item)
  • Update your Home Title and Home Description. Keywords are not all that important.
  • Change the | to - (optional)
  • Save the settings when done.

You are NOT going to see these changes from setting up this plugin as the work is done behind the scenes within your websites HTML code. Don't worry about this, it is making your code friend for search engines like Google. :)

@hannahM2, @feigner said it best. Once upon a time, your domain name was crucial, however Google has had to change direction in their site ranking methods to look more at the content and how relevant it is to the user's search words. If you can, still try to get the brand of your product, or product name in the DM, but don't fret if you can't. Ex, if you sell coffee beans, you can use HannahSellsCoffee or something. this way you cover all angles. Everyone knows what you do and if they type buy coffee beans, you stand a better of outranking someone with a less relevant DM all things considered equal.

Hi all! I just finished the Getting Your Website SEO Ready video. It was great. My question is at 5:20 when he goes in the Plugins section one of the plugins is called "Exclude Pages from navigation" and we're supposed to activate that. The problem is I don't have that plugin and I couldn't find it when I searched for plugins to add either. The only plugins I had was the All in One SEO Pack and the one that starts with Ewww (Sorry I forget the rest, I'm new to all this!). I activated both of those but why can't I find "Exclude Pages from navigation"? Thanks!
Reply
tmaltz Premium
Don't worry about the Exclude Pages plugin at the moment. It seems odd that you can't find it, but nonetheless, this plugin won't come into play for a while, so I'd keep moving forward.

Do that or review the lesson and make sure your searching new plugins and not your current ones, I've done that before.
Reply
feigner Premium
that plugin has been included within wordpress now
the videos are in progress of being updated
there are other little bits - so use the search bar and find out whether anybody else has had the problem
i would recommend the wpedit plugin to add functionality to your editor
along wiith wpclone to do your own backup
is the ewww the image optimiser - i prefer to reduce the size of images myself in paint
good luck with your online journey

I have a quick question. I don't know if it is obvious or not.

When talking about niches and the name of your domain, it sounded like you should name our site off of your direct niche, Like, "Baby Clothing". I have seen a lot of broader names for websites or catchy names like, "Craftsy" that don't seem to be direct with the specific niche. Are we to make a choice off of our direct niche and nothing catchy or broad?
Reply
feigner Premium
you can name your site whatever you want to
sometime ago it was all the rage to have an exact match domain eg babydiapers . com, this ranked well in google, but since the shake ups this is less important. it may be important for the visitor to identify with what the site sells - so don't go for phils bikes and sell baby clothes
but you can name it ( or brand ) it whatever you like now.
it gives you more scope for names and allows for easier brand logos
good luck with the name you choose
don't be in a rush to buy a domain an be sure to check out social media ( somewhere like https://www.namecheckr.com/) so the branding can continue into social media

It's my funny question...
If I'll not upgrade to premium after 7 days, my access to this community will not be possible?
I created one website here, It's not possible to access that website and create content there?
After upgrading to premium with monthly payment option, if I've delayed my payment then will I be permitted to access my site and other benefits?
(Anyhow I'll upgrade my account to premium on my 7th day... These questions are just for confirmation/knowledge purpose)
Thank you...

You will be able to stay a free member as long as you want. And as a free member, you can use the site rubix domains. What you would not receive is the live chat, the remaining courses, the live videos and the ability to buy domains and use bought domains like .coms.

Good questions Lokesh. Your access to the community is just limited as a free member. You can continue to access your website that you created, no problem. Now, the monthly payment option being delayed I do not know. I am going to guess that you have a certain amount of time but if the payment is not activated you would lose premium access but still have access as a free member. Maybe someone else can jump in on this and correct me if I am wrong. :)

Hey guys! Another question...
How does THIS SITE WEALTHY AFFILIATE earn money?
When I compared the cost of the premium plan WHICH HAD UNLIMITED DOMAINS with the cost of setting up your own through something like GODADDY, then it looks like that WEALTHY AFFILIATE is in a constant LOSS. How is it that it is so cheap here and they aren't suffering any loss?

You can only create 25 siterubix subdomain sites for free, and a further 25 wholly-owned domain sites, but you do have to register those domains at c. $14 per annum each.

The Managed Wordpress hosting you have access to here at WA is matched by very few hosts in the industry in terms of quality, security, speed, and support. It definitely is not a budget host like the other shared hosting companies out there. The hosting you get here at WA is comparable to $250 per MONTH hosting packages.

You can learn more about it here:

http://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/hosting/

We are not a budget host and you have access to 8 different website platforms/features within the SiteRubix suite (outside of the hosting and the website builder).

You can host up to 25 of your own domains and 25 free .siterubix.com websites on your Premium hosting platform here at WA.

Question on Jaaxy. I'm working through the program and this may be covered later, but at present I'm not sure how Jaaxy will help my website get the hits from the keywords I have saved.

You try to use a single, relevant but different keyword for every page and post you create for your site. You put it in the title and first paragraph and write naturally around it. For example, one of your keywords for an orchid site might be "prune orchids", so for one post the title might be "How to prune orchids" and the first para might contain, "The best way to prune orchids is...". That's it!

It looks like all topics seem to have something in common - feeling good. You know, even for the weight loss it is important to start from that otherwise the person starts "eating emotions" and due to emotional stress cortisol levels rise what triggers the chemical chain which might end up in obesity. I probably would create more generic stuff in the centre - motivational and inspirational stuff and other topics like the branches of the tree around it. It depends on the SEO, to find out how it works - if it is better to put everything in one website or in the separate ones.

Hi Lokesh,

William67's training is a great start. If you are still stuck, I like to suggest thinking of three things:

1) What are you passionate about? (I guess motivation and inspiration)
2) What are you knowledgable about? (your e-book is a great start)
3) What do you often talk about (Probably wellness)

So the trick now is to narrow it down. Which of those niches can you see yourself being able to enjoy writing about the most?

As for keywords, it's covered in the training... have you gotten to that part yet?
Reply
I'm really amazed by your reply RKingsley...

You don't need to capture leads, you can drive your traffic directly to affiliate offers (there are over 500 million products that you can promote as an affiliate) and then you earn commissions that way.

Once you have a solid base of consistent traffic you can consider capturing leads as well, cross that bridge when you get there though. :)

Reply
William67 Premium
Hey Shadz! Welcome to WA. I will try my best to answer that question for you. One form of generating income from a website is through ads. Example, Google's Adsense. You can put ads on your website and get money from the ads. The more traffic you have, the more likely someone will click on those ads.

You can get income via commission which is the Affiliate Marketing/Program. Example, if you are an Amazon affiliate and make a blog review of a product you purchased via Amazon and leave your link directing them to Amazon, then you can make a commission if they either go to the Amazon site and purchase something within 48 hours or the product itself.

You get the commission because you are bringing traffic (paying customers) to Amazon.

The way you get people to your page is by SEO and just spreading your website around.

Hope this helps.

You don't collect the information yourself unless you have "email optins" on your site. If you are promoting an affiliate program, they typically keep that information private or it would be a breach of privacy.

HELP!!!!! I have a domain name picked. It's an idea I was perking on a couple of years ago, and naively did a search for domains. GoDaddy popped up as a domain search . I put my domain name idea and they locked it up tight. Their site said it's taken but I could purchase it for 69.00 dollars and 20% commission. (Commission on what is a mystery) I never purchased the .com domain . It's now two years later and they still have that name on lock down for purchase with commission. Should I go with a .net or .org? I can pick the domain name through WA as a .com but I would need to insert a slight variation in it by inserting a dot between the two main words of my domain . Any suggestions? Is this question clear?

I would go with the slight variation on the name as long as it is clear what your niche represents. That way you can still hold on to that and get your domain up and running. Hope this helps, good luck!

If it's a two word domain you should consider buying it. The .org domains are for non profit, the .net for networks, and the .com for commercials businesses, so go for .com

Hi, someone else bought it before you, but, allow yourself to come up with a new one to your liking. I would stay away from the period because you'd want it to be easy to remember and not so similar to someone else, and buy it here at WA since it's a better deal. Best wishes!

Hi, in your menus section make sure you have a menu set up and your front page has been added, then look for menu structure, there you can customize it: click to edit your front page and where it says navigation label you can write HOME or whatever you prefer, then the address to that page will be your domain. "MORE coaching, MORE expert access, MORE training, MORE live classes, MORE keywords, MORE websites, MORE hosting, and MORE success? Can I evaluate my income potential by joining as WA affiliate before upgrading to Premium?"

The answer to all of these questions is yes. You also asked if you needed to upgrade to WA Premium the minute you joined. The answer to that question is no. You can remain a free member for as long as you like.

As you can see, there are many benefits to joining Premium, but the timing of when or if you join is entirely up to you.

I would focus on English first, as Amazon has OneLink which enables you to sell from the US, Canada and UK stores all with one link. You can always add in other languages later on, by creating subdomains.

can you use the hreflang tag to customise your site for the various languages - you have different pages pulled up dependant on the language chosen.
you will need to do a lot of research into using it with your site
maybe research into underscores as a theme - totally customisable.
there maybe themes out there which pick up on the computers language and customise the theme content - if available - to give the visitor the best possible experience
just my thoughts - this may not be available
i know the hreflang is a way of setting the language and underscores is a basic theme customisable with css - but as for being able to customise the theme - don't know
so maybe you have a drop down box for choosing a different language - seen it done

good luck with your online journey

I am aware of that the support team is supposed to answer this, but they did not answer my question a little bit long time. So is EACH website limited to 25% CPU -or- just all 50 websites together have limited of 25% CPU at once? I do not want to take a risk if this happens when my future website may be more than 25% CPU without my knowledge then the site would block anytime. Your answer would be appreciated. Thanks!

I did what I was asked to do through lesson 7. I'm not sure the content even just on my About Me page. I;m not very experienced writing anything let alone Quality Content. See, when I created content I just put down something out of my head. Believe me I've seen better. How do I get some feedback on what I have written on my site
Reply

Hi Steve, Don't worry about writing anything as what you did is the way to start, you can always refine it or add to it as you go on. Writing from your head is always best at all times as then is will be original and that is what Google and other search engines like.

If you want some feedback for it you can go and ask here: but remember the give and take on WA so do please volunteer to return the favour.

Hi, on the training video above there are 4 'Robot' boxes that are checked to avoid google indexing for the Privacy policy. On my page that I am editing there are only 2 'Robot' boxes.

There are also boxes for 'Disable on this page/post' and 'Disable Google analytics'. Should these be checked?

just do the 2

I was wondering the same thing. I just checked the two that were the same as in the video and left the others unchecked. I hope that was correct.

Hello all I'm hoping you might be able to help, I am single mum from the UK and uni student, iv spent hundreds on other affiliate educational platforms and feel no more confident about affiliate marketing let alone tech in itself. Do you think WA will provide me with the tools I need to start right from scratch? Thank you for your advice in advance.

Hi. I'm a mum of two and I currently live in Saudi Arabia. I can't speak for everybody who joins WA, but I can say for sure that not everyone who goes to university makes it and graduates with flying colours. Some people join WA and make it; others don't and give up.
I joined WA in 2014 as a free member, but gave up after 3 months to chase other goals. I came back in July 2016 and was more determined to succeed. I didn't hesitate to go premium and after one year, I'm glad I kept working at this. I was new to affiliate marketing when I started, but I've learnt a lot along the way and sure to learn more.
I hope you take the right decision.
Best of luck!

Hi guys, I have written my about me section for one of my websites. I have a technical question, I would like to include social media links in the about me section. Does anyone know how to add the plugin that correctly links to all social media versus having to input the actual name or social media site. Often on blog business websites, there is an icon . Please advise?

You want people to leave your site and go to your social media pages? Why?
Reply
Prinz Premium
What theme are you using? You can do that with Thrive theme and content builder. I'm not sure about a plugin that you can specifically use to add social media buttons on a page. I hope someone can help with that because I'm curious too.
Can Social Icons by WPZOOM do the trick?
Reply
ssmith0116 Premium
Thats a good point. From marketing perspective gives more and creates more of a following and interest. For example my favorite bloggers, and you tubers I follow their social accounts because I just like their brands, tutorials, or whatever else I am interested in. Later could potentially use social media ads to generate leads and traffic, twitter for business, and Facebook.

Hi Pinz,
Thank you for the response, I am not sure what theme I am using but since we live in a digital world, I thought it made sense to setup a social site . Perhaps that is just my interest in marketing. Not sure, but will figure it out.
Reply
cramervod Premium
Thank you that makes more sense to me. More of a contact page then just here is my social go and take a look thing.

Prinz Premium
It's easy to check that. On your WordPress dashboard, click on Appearance then select Themes. The theme that you are currently using would show "Active" and "Customize".
As for the plugin social icons by WPZOOM, you can try it. The widget would show up on your homepage and posts, depending on where you place it. I'm not sure how you can place those social buttons on a specific page, though. I used WPZOOM on one of my sites (https://checkovulation.com/) and placed it at the side and foot of my website.

I have started to create the initial framework for my website. Since it is related to natural alternatives to treat illness it seems I will need to also add a FDA Disclaimer. In the same way that the Privacy Policy is essentially a cut and paste job, is this the same approach for the disclaimer?
Reply
Kyle Premium
Yeah, it would be the same sort of approach. You could fine a good FDA type disclaimer or you could have something in your footer that indicates that your advice should not replace a doctors advice.

Ultimately if people buy something though, the "product' should have the proper disclaimers.
Reply
Rbobejr1960 Premium
Yes as Kyle said you will need a good disclaimer, you can do a search for disclaimers in google and find examples you could use or use to make your own. like this one for example

Im struggling to narrow my niche down. I love all things that are craft related and diy projects. I am a passionate crochet and knitter, this is how i spend most of my free time. I assume going with the Crochet/Knitting niche is best because I love it so much but Im stuck on which direction to take it in. So, I guess my question is which angle do I take with my crochet/Knitting Niche to narrow it down? Thoughts?

Hey guys, I saved my first 3 pages as a draft, as per the instructions. Should they show up on my website or do they need to be published first? Another question I have is, how am I going to build content when I don't yet have a business or any ideas to promote yet? I am really starting out at base level!

What is your website about? You need to find content that you want to share with your audience to build a following. You will need to publish your sites first prior to them being seen on your site. Hope that helps!

I'm embarrassed to admit this....but....I got stuck on this silly technology thing with doing the Go Daddy website change over, even after posting over a month ago on this issue. I can't find my posts, either!

So, I let this block me from moving forward with my WA work. After reading all the posts below and elsewhere on doing a domain change-over, I'm a bit confused about whether it's best to transfer or redirect my 3 domain names with GD.I could really use some help to move forward.! :-)

Go Daddy is my domain registrar and hosting company.

So, some questions I'd love support with!!

To move past lesson 1:
1) Do I have to redirect or transfer my 3 Go Daddy domain names to WA before I can build my first website with my own domain names? Or can I build it then do the domain name shift?

2) My domains have been inactive for some time, so I don't have protection with GD. Is it best to transfer or point my domains here as I'm just starting out with my websites?

Will it cost me to transfer 3 domains? if so, is it best to redirect for now?
When would I transfer to WA?
Is it best to let my domains run out with GD, then repurchase them with WA?

Ahhh....thanks for any insight you can offer! I really do best by talking techie stuff out, not reading through. All about learning styles :-)

Relax, it all works little by little; just keep moving, since there's lots to learn here at WA. To help with your questions:
1) Do I have to redirect or transfer my 3 Go Daddy domain names to WA before I can build my first website with my own domain names? Or can I build it then
do the domain name shift?
You can build and then worry about definite domains later. Transfering is not critical if they are not active. If you have websites then you would need to move them to WA, which is a different process than transfering domains.
2) My domains have been inactive for some time, so I don't have protection with GD. Is it best to transfer or point my domains here as I'm just starting
out with my websites?
You can just point if you are set on keeping them until you find out how to implement all transfers.
Will it cost me to transfer 3 domains? if so, is it best to redirect for now?
You will have to purchase an additional year for each, but remember, transfering your domains is not avbsolutely necessary..
When would I transfer to WA?
Is it best to let my domains run out with GD, then repurchase them with WA?
You may not be able to repurchase the same domains, so if you really want them you can just transfer later. If it's not a great loss you can just let them go and come up with new ones when you're ready.
Hope that helps!

Hi EOPolini,

Thank you for such a detailed reply.
So, to recap:
I can start the creative process of building my website now.
I can just point my domain names to WA for now.
The domain names are up for renewal this Fall, but I can just keep them "perpetually" directed to WA, to avoid the one-year costs. Correct?

Again, thanks for your help! I appreciate you taking the time to help me sort things out.
Reply
EOPolini Premium
Hi, when they are up for renewal you would have to pay regardless, unless you have decided to let them go, in which case you shouldn't even use them here, but, if you intend to keep them and they are not tied to a website, then simply follow the lessons to create your first website with your own domain.
Again, if you decide to let them go just continue your training with free websites until you're ready for the next step.
In any case, you don't want to tackle more than one initially.
Best wishes!

You CAN build it first and then do the domian shift. If you still have a GD account and have access to your domains then you should be able to transfer them.

It should not cost any money to do it, but I am not completely familiar with GD, so I am not sure if they would charge a fee. But they shouldn't.

You can transfer to WA whenever you want, but sooner is better. You could let your domains run out and then purchase them again, but then you run the risk of losing them to someone else.

I just did the redirect for now. I'll figure it out the transfer thing down the road. I just want to get going, and I got so stumped on the initial technology thing that caused me to procrastinate since I signed up! :-( Time to push through.

Any advice about how to select a Theme since there are so many to choose from with Premium! :-)

I have a big passion for helping people in the health sector of their lives. My dad currently suffers from back and knee pain, due to surgeries, etc. I also had ACL surgery, father like son to a whole another level. Would this be a good niche for a beginner? Also, I can't help but think about the competition out there, so do you think that there is to much competition for a beginner?

Competition means there's money in it, to beat competition the key is to narrow your target and specialize!

Hi JLippard,
What do you want to help people to do, be, or have? Are there products you want to promote that could help support their quality of life?

Yes, one would be a Active Ice® Therapy System. This is what made me think of going into this niche. It provide major comfort and pain relief to my leg after surgery. I am in the process of coming up with other products that I could promote. Do you think it would be a good idea?

I think you just answered your own question. You are your best client, so find more people like YOU! And, you have the "story" as testimony that the product works.

Who else would I want to buy something from than someone who has used the product and found it to be tried and true!. Try it out! I think you're onto something worth looking into! :-)

Thank you for replying. I am having a problem with not only the videos being fast, but also blurry and some teachers have heavy accents. Maybe I am not looking for teaching videos in the right place. What theme are you using? If I come across a video for it that I think is better focused, I will let you know. My theme is Twenty Seventeen, I am trying to make it look like a magazine because I have written a book for the site.

Hello - to complete this lesson, do we need to build a website only using siterubix or can we use it with our own domain? I have already built my own wordpress website in the past and I am comfortable owning my own domain....do I simply start and do it with my own?

Hi ROots. I have a suggestion but don't know if it will work. If you absolutely can't enter your jaaxy account try making or using a different email and signing up for the free account again and see what happens. I never tried it but it doesn't hurt to try. Hope this will help. Hope im answering your question right.

When you login to your WA account you see on the list of programs on the left side bar then click on WA programs then it comes to your WA link on the upper left. Just above the list of affiliate programs and their cost. Highlight and copy your WA link
Then go to your content you wrote. Click the picture of the link on the above line where there are small stuff to help build your content body like paragraphs and spelling corrections etc. When you click that then it pop up a small box it says url then paste your WA link in that line or enter it manually. The second line says write a text. About your content. Let says you're promoting WA. Then you end your content by saying, join Wealthy Affiliate now then click submit at the right hand corner of the box. Then the text will get to your content. When people click on the text join WA now then it guide them to your WA link.
Well I'm still learning myself. Hope that helps. Good luck

I watched all the " Getting started " videos. I am very excited, but I have 2 questions.
1. My English is not the best ....can i write about something English - Hungarian, so i can write mostly hungarian LOL..- or not?
2. I probably missed something or it is in the upcoming videos:
I understand the good keywords will drive traffic to your website,
and people read and buy things clicking on an affiliate link on your website. How do they get there? I mean the affiliate links in to your website? thank you
Reply
spinner721 Premium
1. According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_used_on_the_Internet) More than 50% of the internet is in English. You can attack the Hungarian language and probably dominate pretty well, but you will be trying to target a relatively small percentage of the internet.

2. You get the affiliate links by signing up for affiliate programs at merchant websites. If you google a product and add "+ Affiliate Program" you should find some good results.
Most of this kind of stuff is found in the 2nd and 3rd Training modules.

So the niche that I chose is Children's Ballroom Shoes. After doing keyword searches in Jaaxy, I am almost wanting to change that niche to just Ballroom Dance Shoes. Would you recommend that I just keep going with the niche I have chosen, or delete my website and create a new one for just Ballroom Dance Shoes to get more traffic? Because I know it would...
