We are now getting into the FUN stuff! Search Engine Optimization, also known as SEO!

You have your website in place and now you want to make it SEO ready so that search engines can find it. Our goal is to get ranked in the BIG 3 engines, Google, Bing & Yahoo.

Do note that our focus is going to be primarily on Google though as they own over 70% of all search traffic, and over 95% of mobile searches.

But why do you want rankings in the search engines? Simple...

Website Rankings = Targeted Traffic = Revenue!

The rankings are the first step in creating an online revenue stream.

Today we are going to walk you through the set-up of a Wordpress plugin that is going to do a lot of the "dirty work" for you and will take care of the optimization of all your website pages/posts, meta tags, and other aspects that search engines look for when ranking your site.

I have created a "Setting Your Website Up for Search Engines" video walk-through of this training and please follow along as it will add a lot of clarity to how SEO works, but also how to install the All in One SEO plugin.

Task 1: Set-up All in One SEO on your site

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a very important aspect of any website's success.

In this task we are going to be setting up a plugin that makes our website code (the stuff behind the scenes of our website) friendly for search engines like Google so they can index and rank our sites properly. This is going to be very powerful for your website content getting ranked in search engines going forward, so DO NOT skip this task.

Since you activated the All in One SEO within the last lesson, you should see the "All in One SEO" item with your main menu now in your Wordpress back office. If you mouse over that menu icon, a sub menu will pop out (see below).

Simply click the "General Settings" link. This is where you will be going to set-up your SEO settings for your website.

The main section you are going to be updating here is the Home Page Settings section. There are two sections that you will be updating there:

  • Home Title - This is the title of your website that will show up when you get ranked in Google and other search engines. This won't actually show up on your site.

You want this to reflect the actual title of your website that you created with your site, but also add something to make it a bit more captivating.

Ideal Length: 40-60 characters, keep under 60
  • Home Description - This is a description of what your website is about and how it will benefit people. Don't overthink this part, you just want to be descriptive as to what your site is.

    Ideal Length: Under 160 characters

Although there are a TON of other settings, you are not going to need to update any of these at the moment, not for SEO purposes.

When you are done updating your Home Page Settings, scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click the "Update Options" button (as shown below).

Upon doing this, you are done. Your website is set-up and SEO READY! :)

A few important points things to take note of here about All in One SEO:

  • You DO NOT need to "Upgrade to Pro". The free version is more than adequate for your needs.
  • You won't see these changes to your actual site. The work is done behind the scenes within your websites HTML code. It is making your code friendly for search engines.

Awesome, your website is all set-up for SEO now! As you build out your new pages/posts, they will automatically be optimized for Google and other search engines. If you have any questions about the set-up process, leave them in the comments below and we will give you a hand.

In the next lesson we are going to be discussing KEYWORDS, the root of all of your rankings, traffic and success online.

I was thinking about doing a niche in gluten free. I am not entirely sure what to narrow it down to.

I did search Affiliated Programs for Gluten free and came up with a few that are on the direction toward protein bars and snack food. They are anywhere from 5% - 15%.

Does a niche in gluten free sound like a good avenue and any suggestions on how to narrow it down or if I should just go with what I found really quick with the affiliate programs?

To be honest i thin gluten free is a very broad subject and lots to write about.

Gluten free is a good niche, but I feel it could be "broken down" a little bit. A couple of examples may be 1) the many effects Gluten free diets can have on one's health and 2) the specific types of gluten-free diets, such as fruits, vegetables, and some grains (to just name a few). These are some examples that may be less competitive in your audiences' searches. Hope this helps.

All the best,

Kent

You want to make sure you can find things to promote that will pay well. Protein bars are fine, but you won't make a lot on them.

However, because it's a food/cooking related site, you can promote other things related like cooking appliances.

If you go this route, I would definitely use Pinterest to build up your traffic.

I few sub niches could be GF Foods, GF Recipes, Dealing with coeliac disease (when I was diagnosed about 6 years ago I went hunting for information) Living day to day with GF ... as you can see there are various sub niches you could adopt.

Most people with auto-imune diseases tend to suffer from more than one a closely connected angle is pain relief for some so you could go down CBD route for affiliate products.

I would look at diet and nutrition as this is always what people are looking for... you could expand into recipes as you grow.

Maybe creating your own product could be a good income stream too.

Trust this helps :)

Hello, a couple of new questions, if you allow me please:
1. Under Home Page settings: it seems there's a new option, called "Use Statistic Front Page"; when would this option worth to be in place?
2. The name of my recent site appears already under other former users... What are my alternatives? Should I change my WA one at this stage? My thanks

Hi Arlli,

Thanks for your question.

Let me give you a comprehensive answer, alright?

Based on my vast experience and helping 1,000’s of people to get started, I can say the following:

It’s possible to make money with a Free Starter Account but it’s MUCH easier with a premium membership.

The reason is that with the premium membership you’ll get everything you need to make a life-changing income online:

1. Training
2. 24/7/365 Support
3. Expert Mentoring from Successful Online Entrepreneurs (Learn more here: )
4. All high-quality tools (Jaaxy, managed website hosting, SiteComments, etc.)
5. And more…

Another thing that I’ve often noticed is that people who are always just looking for freebies, aren’t really committed to succeed.

You may not be like that. But the fact is that most who only take the free will never succeed because they’re not willing to put in the work.

I’m paying myself for the premium membership and it makes me more than 100 times more than I put into it. Check out my post below: Summa Summarum:

Yes, you can make money with the free membership BUT

You’ll make it most likely much faster with a premium and earn much more.

That’s what I’ve learned over the years.

Feel free to ask me anything also in the future! I’m here to help you to succeed.

I'm pretty sure I have my target audience right now; the concept I'll use to build my business' foundation. I want to be able to possibly teach some classes and/or have some online lessons available. Access to video streams of Afrikan/Black studies lectures and teachings. Afrikan-centered books and to sell books like these. I've already come across several book-selling websites with affiliate programs. I'm putting my intentions out in the Universe and also gonna do my part.

Can I change the name of my website? Once I started writing the About me page I realized the name doesn't really match the content I will be filling it up with.

Also just general feedback, maybe if the training had us write the about me section of the website first as an exercise it would have helped with that part.

The website name yes, but domain, no. As a Starter Member you only have 1 Website slot. The only way to change your subdomain is to delete your website and start again. As a Premium Member you have 10 website slots, which means you could create a new subdomain or purchase a domain name, allowing you to “move” / migrate your website files to the new domain name.
