How Will YOU Make Money Online?

Great question!

The reality is that there are many ways to make money online! The problem is that people often get distracted by the "latest and greatest" product or service and they are never able to build a successful (and revenue generating) business as a result.

Today I am going to run you through one of the most fundamental, yet powerful processes of generating revenue online.

It is a proven process, it is one that we use, and one that 100,000's of other Wealthy Affiliate members use. It is also the ultimate "making money" process that worked 5 years ago and it is going to work 5 years from now (and beyond). It is a process that will reveal as much opportunity in the massive online world as you are willing to work for!

It is called Affiliate Marketing.

But, just one thing before you get into the MONEY "stuff"...

The making money part of your business won't happen quite yet.

Before you earn money, you are going to first be focusing on creating your niche website (which will take place in the next two lessons) and are working to get traffic to your website. Without a website, without content, and without traffic, the MONEY part simply doesn't happen.

So don't look at this like a race. You will reach success and a great deal of it, but before you build your own personal SKYSCRAPER of a business, you must first have a solid FOUNDATION to build it on. That is going to be our first goal within the Getting Started training. Cool?

Alright, let's continue on! :)

Below is a video walk-through of today's lesson and the process of "How to Make Money Online - The Process Explained". Just click the PLAY button to watch it!

In the coming days you are going to be working through this process and by the end of this Level 1 training alone, you are going to have an awesome foundation in place that will lead you to much greater success.

Task #1: Understand the Make Money Process

There are MANY different ways that you can earn money online and many different ways in which you can build an entire business. The most lucrative and the one that we have been teaching here at Wealthy Affiliate for the past 14 years is Affiliate Marketing.

Below is a diagram outlining the process of making money through affiliate marketing.

There are now over 4 BILLION people online as of 2019 (YOUR audience) and these people are going to search engines, social media, or visiting websites for help all the time.

These people are looking for information, solutions to problems and to buy stuff.

That is where you are going to come in with your website and help these "audiences" by offering them information about what they are looking for. You will be "helping" these people, recommending products/services they can benefit from, and you earn affiliate commissions ($$) as a result.

There are over 550 MILLION products/services that you can promote as an affiliate marketer. The opportunity is incredible and it is only growing!

By Lesson 4 of this course you are going to have your very own "niche" website in place that you will use to connect with your chosen audience and make money with. You will have your very own slice of the internet opportunity.

Task #2: Create (Write Down) Your Financial Goals

You want to earn revenue right? That is great! In order to earn anything however, you need to have some goals in place.

In this task we want you to join in on a "money goals" discussion here at Wealthy Affiliate. You are going to be telling us what your goals are and going forward, we are going to be helping you achieve these very goals!

QUESTION #1: How much money would you be happy earning?

QUESTION #2: How much would you be ecstatic (ie, really excited) earning?

QUESTION #3: And how much TIME are you willing to invest to achieve these goals?

PLEASE make 100% sure that you do not skip this step and you revisit this post regularly when you are in need of some motivation. I can absolutely assure you that if you work hard at this and you are persistent towards these goals, you will achieve them. But ultimately it is UP TO YOU!

JOIN DI$CU$ION: What Are Your "Money" Goals?

In addition to this, it would be wonderful if you commented on someone else's goals they have posted within this thread. Aim to comment on at least TWO people's goals. You likely can network with many other "like minded" people here at Wealthy Affiliate and this is a good way to get your networking efforts rolling. We are a friendly bunch here at WA!

If you have any questions about any aspect of the make money process, feel free to leave them in the comments below.

I have completed the lessons but it didn't show me how to use the website to earn any money. Do I have to be a premium member to start earning any income. I wanted to try this out first to see if it could be profitable before committing any more money as expenses

Hi - it's possible to earn as a starter member, but it will be much more difficult, as you have limited access to the lessons. And after your first 7 days, you will not be able to communicate with other members or ask questions if you get stuck.

Once you have built your website, you need to write lots of original articles for it, on the niche subject you have chosen.

When you have written about 15 articles, you can start applying to join affiliate programs such as Amazon and promote their products. If somebody buys something through the links on your website, you earn a commission.

Do be aware that this is a slow and steady process, and although the training does work, it can take up to 6 months to earn any income.

Hi Diane,
Thank you for taking some of your time to answer this question. I'm not sure that I want to spend that extra money right now since this was to create a little extra income and not an extra expenditure. I will have to think about this a little more since this does not guarantee any extra income. Maybe the reviews of this site are correct. I will have to do a little more research. thank you again

Hi - building an online business is no quicker or easier than building a land-based business. And anybody who tries to persuade you otherwise is likely to be a scam.

Yes, there are some poor reviews of WA, but they are typically from people who expected to make money quickly and with as little effort as possible.

Unfortunately, this can be down to the website that you joined through in the first place. Some of them do give the impression that a free starter can make money straight away.

Income is not guaranteed as results depend on your understanding of the process, the niche you have chosen, your willingness to write a lot of content every week and much more.

However, it's not for everybody, so I respect your decision if you choose not to stay and wish you every success in the future.

Hi

Here how the process goes

Fist you need select a niche subject which is something you are passionate and genuinely interested in could be a hobby or an interest, and know so well you can write plenty original content about.

The question is WHO would be your target audience vs Not what you are selling to an audience.

You need aim for ONE focused niche with a specific group of people, I'd go with what's best resonates with me.

The recommendation is to focus on ONE site starting out as it takes lots of effort and work get it going, however once you know what you are doing, then the learning curve would be less steeper to scale up.

That's a great niche to be in however broad you may want to narrow it down to a subcategory starting out, otherwise you will find it very hard to get noticed by the search engines and to compete with big authority sites. Target audience is important too, who would you be writing to, once you are able to identify them, you are closer to finding a focused niche.

Once a site starts gaining traction, traffic and authority you can then scale to cover another subcategory.

See example blog post below ONE niche, a website. Products and programs can be varied however all must be relevant to the niche.

You may consult with https://answersocrates.com/ for further research into finding a subcategory starting out. You can search what real people are asking as in Questions, Prepositions, Comparisons, in the past, letters and query. It is also great if someone wants to write a thorough research based article.

For example if you are in yoga
Yoga exercises for beginners

When deciding on a niche try narrow it down to a more specific niche, you can ask yourself the following question:

So I want to help people with ____________________ ?

Fill in the blank aand you are going to get closer to a specific audience. Your niche research:-

Questions People are Asking
How to Solutions
Resources Within the Niche
Products You Can Promote/Review
Affiliate Programs
Products
Top Authority Sites/Competitors
Low Competition Keywords
Popular Magazines / Papers / Periodicals
Advertisement Ideas / Headline Ideas

Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

Onward, your site need be ready before you apply for affiliate programs

You would have written 20 - 30 posts and have some traffic to be able apply for affiliate programs as typically they will check your site for relevance and traffic prior approval.

For Amazon it is 10 - 15 posts. You also would have to make 3 sales in your first 180 days.

Lucrative programs - 40 posts +

Once accepted, they've given you material and special tracking code links you can share on your site.

Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

Once they do, and in accordance with your affiliation terms and conditions, how commission payouts are tracked and paid. You need to read up how payments are made because different programs follow different rules; some pay by check others via PayPal or straight to your check account.

I would always adhere to your affiliate program terms and conditions.

Meanwhile I'd ask as many questions as I want to get clarifications,

Welcome to WA and our community.

Welcome to WA. Glad the video was motivating.

Yes, you choose a niche - help people with it and then include related product links in your content posts.

Here's an example of a niche we like and monetize.
We like camping and what to help campers buy the right equipment to make their camping experience more pleasant and safe.

Camping is a very broad topic with a lot of competition so to eliminate some competition in the beginning so the website has a chance to grow, the focus needs to be a smaller scope. For example essential camping equipment for beginners. I can talking about camping, my experiences, what I have learned about camping, and how I have found good equipment and what I believe is the best equipment. Once the website is established and has a good volume, its scope can be expanded to include other things camping related.

WA is a very friendly, helpful and active community. We like to help new comers achieve success. The Online Entrepreneur Training is a self-managed program. You can do it at your pace. When you have questions, you can ask them in the comments section after each lesson.

We do wish you much success.

Here's the complete niche help list.
First criterion must always be "are you passionate about your niche" because you will write 100+ posts and 200+ is better and they should be 1000+ words to rank well. So whatever you choose always deal with this first. Second think how you can help people solve problems in your niche. Does that excite you? Your degree of passion to help others makes a difference. A website is more than selling. The focus needs to be helping.

A niche is something you feel super excited to write about, a skill you have attained, something that resonates with you. You will want to be focused on one niche. What is it that you want to help a group of people with or what problem do you want to help them solve (group could be age, gender, location, experience level, degree or type of need, etc.)

A niche is not a product, it's a subject that you can help a target audience with. Remember, you are not setting up a shop (store), you will be writing lots of articles about your niche to help your targeted audience.

The importance of a targeted audience is that It's always better to target a specific niche with a specific solution to problems.

Kyles asks us to complete this statement.
'i want to help ____(group) with ______(problem)'

For example. I like camping and what to help campers buy the right equipment to make their camping experience more pleasant and safe.

Camping is a very broad topic with a lot of competition so to eliminate some competition in the beginning so the website has a chance to grow, the focus needs to be a smaller scope. I am just going to say; click the magnifying glass in the top right corner. Put in Success Stories and go from there. Do it again; and this time put in How To Succeed.

But, don't take too much time from the training for this. The Training is very important.

Good evening! I just started a new website and I am trying to alter my sidebar widgets. But... when I am in my back office and select Appearance and then widgets I am just seeing a plain white page. The theme that I am using is SKT Gym. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi

As a premium you may install the classic widgets plugin and with the classic editor.

https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-sidebars/
https://wordpress.org/plugins/classic-widgets/

Initially you may download to your PC and then upload .zip files to your WordPress sites back office.

Or go to Plugins > Add new, input classic widgets, install and activate.

However in the standard view you may click the plus to add something or the three dots and choose to remove a block from the drop down menu.

Moreover some of these free themes I have tested already may not work properly. Just one of them did however I can't remember what it was.

Would be nice to hear how you are getting along. Much obliged and best wishes.

Thank you. On my previous websites I could easily alter (delete) some of the dummy sidebar widgets, but this one was different and had nothing. I appreciate your response and will be working on that tomorrow!

When you encounter theme specific issues you may also want to use your favorite browser and check your themes documentation to the issues or how others have solved the problem because WP themes do have differences.

Hope you solved your widgets issue.

The only thing I'd like to suggest is.. For Premium or PP+ members is maybe do a video for that as well. Going through lesson 6 I didn't have the site editing options that you were showing, I figured it out and I had to do it through the Theme page itself for my custom theme. I understand you're simplifying the steps, but a novice like me has had to dabble in some things that I'm unfamiliar with.
