How Will YOU Make Money Online?

Great question!

The reality is that there are many ways to make money online! The problem is that people often get distracted by the "latest and greatest" product or service and they are never able to build a successful (and revenue generating) business as a result.

Today I am going to run you through one of the most fundamental, yet powerful processes of generating revenue online.

It is a proven process, it is one that we use, and one that 100,000's of other Wealthy Affiliate members use. It is also the ultimate "making money" process that worked 5 years ago and it is going to work 5 years from now (and beyond). It is a process that will reveal as much opportunity in the massive online world as you are willing to work for!

It is called Affiliate Marketing.

But, just one thing before you get into the MONEY "stuff"...

The making money part of your business won't happen quite yet.

Before you earn money, you are going to first be focusing on creating your niche website (which will take place in the next two lessons) and are working to get traffic to your website. Without a website, without content, and without traffic, the MONEY part simply doesn't happen.

So don't look at this like a race. You will reach success and a great deal of it, but before you build your own personal SKYSCRAPER of a business, you must first have a solid FOUNDATION to build it on. That is going to be our first goal within the Getting Started training. Cool?

Alright, let's continue on! :)

Below is a video walk-through of today's lesson and the process of "How to Make Money Online - The Process Explained". Just click the PLAY button to watch it!

In the coming days you are going to be working through this process and by the end of this Level 1 training alone, you are going to have an awesome foundation in place that will lead you to much greater success.

Task #1: Understand the Make Money Process

There are MANY different ways that you can earn money online and many different ways in which you can build an entire business. The most lucrative and the one that we have been teaching here at Wealthy Affiliate for the past 14 years is Affiliate Marketing.

Below is a diagram outlining the process of making money through affiliate marketing.

There are now over 4 BILLION people online as of 2019 (YOUR audience) and these people are going to search engines, social media, or visiting websites for help all the time.

These people are looking for information, solutions to problems and to buy stuff.

That is where you are going to come in with your website and help these "audiences" by offering them information about what they are looking for. You will be "helping" these people, recommending products/services they can benefit from, and you earn affiliate commissions ($$) as a result.

There are over 550 MILLION products/services that you can promote as an affiliate marketer. The opportunity is incredible and it is only growing!

By Lesson 4 of this course you are going to have your very own "niche" website in place that you will use to connect with your chosen audience and make money with. You will have your very own slice of the internet opportunity.

Task #2: Create (Write Down) Your Financial Goals

You want to earn revenue right? That is great! In order to earn anything however, you need to have some goals in place.

In this task we want you to join in on a "money goals" discussion here at Wealthy Affiliate. You are going to be telling us what your goals are and going forward, we are going to be helping you achieve these very goals!

QUESTION #1: How much money would you be happy earning?

QUESTION #2: How much would you be ecstatic (ie, really excited) earning?

QUESTION #3: And how much TIME are you willing to invest to achieve these goals?

PLEASE make 100% sure that you do not skip this step and you revisit this post regularly when you are in need of some motivation. I can absolutely assure you that if you work hard at this and you are persistent towards these goals, you will achieve them. But ultimately it is UP TO YOU!

JOIN DI$CU$ION: What Are Your "Money" Goals?

In addition to this, it would be wonderful if you commented on someone else's goals they have posted within this thread. Aim to comment on at least TWO people's goals. You likely can network with many other "like minded" people here at Wealthy Affiliate and this is a good way to get your networking efforts rolling. We are a friendly bunch here at WA!

If you have any questions about any aspect of the make money process, feel free to leave them in the comments below.

Awesome, off to the next lesson now where you will be "choosing your niche"!

Hi guys,
I'm struggeling with my niche. I'm looking for a way to make money while travelling. I had a (private) blog on Polarsteps for friends and family for more than a year and received some really positive feedback on my writing, so I would like to take that to a next level. The video really focuses on advertising products. Sure enough, I bought a backpack and some outdoor clothing, but the focus is much more on my stories, photos and my experiences. How would you guys deal with this? Do I simply have to accept that the way I had it in my mind isn't how this works or are there other ways to deal with this?

Many thanks!
Camille

Hi, it may be generalized and need breaking down to a specific audience for starters, by time your site start to gain traction and authority you would then scale.

Have a look at below link You can use Jaaxy to drill down keywords, you are allowed 30 searches. Look for searches (avg.) above 30 and competition (qsr. ) lower than 100, the lower the qsr the better.

Hey Camille
The 'experiences' part of your Polarsteps blog sounds like something other readers would like to check out. They almost sound like reviews you've done on the places you've been to.

I suggest you create content and publish to your blog on a regular basis - 1-2 times a week seems to be the 'norm'.

Now, Google automatically puts new websites into what is called a 'sandbox' - while you're in here, you will get very little traffic to your site as Google runs through its ranking algorithm. This sandbox treatment last anywhere between 3-9 months and you'll start to see your visitor numbers rise as Google starts to trust your content.

Is there a way around this - no, not really; social posting and video publishing may help but it's really a right-of-passage thing - if you can stick it out then you get rewarded by the search engines in traffic flows.
I hope that helps

Thanks Abie, that's an useful post. I'll give my idea some more though and will try to narrow it down. For example to only focus on the best ways (and products) to travel as lightweight as possible as my focus is on backpacking and travelling by bike. This narrows down the audience to starters already.

I'll take a look at the opportunities my reviews provide for linking to the activities or experiences I'm writing about. That could be interesting.

Luckily my motivation comes from sharing my experiences and not from reaching as many people as possible or earning money, so I'm not worried about that commitment. It's good to know that it can take a while though :)

The only other way besides affiliate marketing is selling your own products or making money off of displaying ads on your website. You usially can’t make money displaying ads on your website until you are getting a lot of traffic to your website.

If you don’t want to do full on product reviews, then maybe you can just casually link to Amazon when you mention your back pack or other item that you use? Or maybe have a link to a page that talks about your bike which in turn has a link to Amazon. This might be a little less intrusive than full on product reviews ob your website.

You can definitely do what you want to do, if you just make one mindset shift IMO.

=> Everything you want to blog about, probably has a related search term which someone is typing into Google.

Worried about traveling to a cold country and feel underprepared? People are probably searching things related to best cold weather jackets

Got caught in the rain while camping and the water soaked through your tent? People are searching for the best rainproof tents or best foul weather tents

Took a photo of a mountain? What camera? What are the pros and cons? Would you recommend it? How do you process and edit the photos? What's the best place to print them? Can you put them on a Canvas and hang it in your living room?

All of these things you're doing related to things people search for. Some have a commercial product element, some do not. The key is to write in such a way that you can get found by people using search engines.

Hi - WA is based in Canada, and some banks see this as a foreign transaction and won't process it. Take Tom's advice first, to see if support can help. If not, you may need to contact your own bank and confirm you want the payment to go through.

Is it mandatory for the site to have a mention concerning the commission that the owner of the site will receive?
I notice that the influencers on youtube for example must mention that they receive a commission through the links they share under their videos. Is it the same for this kind of site?

Hi, yes you must display an affiliate disclosure visible in primary menu and you also need a shorter disclosure as close as possible to the first affiliate link in a post, either above or below the link.

However, if it's an Amazon link, you have to say "as an Amazon Associate I may earn from qualify purchases" and this has to be directly above your first Amazon link in the post.

Please review below resource An affiliate disclosure template is also included in your site content

Hi, normally the drop down menu is supposed to be your categories.

For instance if you have in your menu "Blog", you can then have as drop down "Learn", "my tips" etc.

Hope you get it. It depends on your categories.

I guess you created categories for your posts

I had two questions...

1. I set up my first website through siterubix before purchasing a domain. Because I don't want to purchase a domain and have a name I don't think works for the content of my page. Can I switch my page over to a domain name later if I decide on one?

2. I know that a name doesn't need hours of reflection but I still like feedback on whether others think it will work. My page title is "Why Movies Are Cool". Is this an attractive name? My aim is mostly to argue against negative arguments people may have for movies or against particular titles...

Hi, first question is yes.

You can use GoDaddy valuation tool to find a memorable name for your site. May I add domain names nowadays are not effected by SEO.

If you believe the above suffices with your niche and what you are trying to convey and is available why not register - thou I wouldn't go over 16 characters. (norm is 6 - 14 characters)

You can also use namemesh.com to find a name, look out for the SEO & MIX columns. Or you may like try "Lean Domain Search" instead.

Just ran a search, it is available however not memorable.
