How Will YOU Make Money Online?

Great question!

The reality is that there are many ways to make money online! The problem is that people often get distracted by the "latest and greatest" product or service and they are never able to build a successful (and revenue generating) business as a result.

Today I am going to run you through one of the most fundamental, yet powerful processes of generating revenue online.

It is a proven process, it is one that we use, and one that 100,000's of other Wealthy Affiliate members use. It is also the ultimate "making money" process that worked 5 years ago and it is going to work 5 years from now (and beyond). It is a process that will reveal as much opportunity in the massive online world as you are willing to work for!

It is called Affiliate Marketing.

But, just one thing before you get into the MONEY "stuff"...

The making money part of your business won't happen quite yet.

Before you earn money, you are going to first be focusing on creating your niche website (which will take place in the next two lessons) and are working to get traffic to your website. Without a website, without content, and without traffic, the MONEY part simply doesn't happen.

So don't look at this like a race. You will reach success and a great deal of it, but before you build your own personal SKYSCRAPER of a business, you must first have a solid FOUNDATION to build it on. That is going to be our first goal within the Getting Started training. Cool?

Alright, let's continue on! :)

Below is a video walk-through of today's lesson and the process of "How to Make Money Online - The Process Explained". Just click the PLAY button to watch it!

In the coming days you are going to be working through this process and by the end of this Level 1 training alone, you are going to have an awesome foundation in place that will lead you to much greater success.

Task #1: Understand the Make Money Process

There are MANY different ways that you can earn money online and many different ways in which you can build an entire business. The most lucrative and the one that we have been teaching here at Wealthy Affiliate for the past 14 years is Affiliate Marketing.

Below is a diagram outlining the process of making money through affiliate marketing.

There are now over 4 BILLION people online as of 2019 (YOUR audience) and these people are going to search engines, social media, or visiting websites for help all the time.

These people are looking for information, solutions to problems and to buy stuff.

That is where you are going to come in with your website and help these "audiences" by offering them information about what they are looking for. You will be "helping" these people, recommending products/services they can benefit from, and you earn affiliate commissions ($$) as a result.

There are over 550 MILLION products/services that you can promote as an affiliate marketer. The opportunity is incredible and it is only growing!

By Lesson 4 of this course you are going to have your very own "niche" website in place that you will use to connect with your chosen audience and make money with. You will have your very own slice of the internet opportunity.

Task #2: Create (Write Down) Your Financial Goals

You want to earn revenue right? That is great! In order to earn anything however, you need to have some goals in place.

In this task we want you to join in on a "money goals" discussion here at Wealthy Affiliate. You are going to be telling us what your goals are and going forward, we are going to be helping you achieve these very goals!

QUESTION #1: How much money would you be happy earning?

QUESTION #2: How much would you be ecstatic (ie, really excited) earning?

QUESTION #3: And how much TIME are you willing to invest to achieve these goals?

PLEASE make 100% sure that you do not skip this step and you revisit this post regularly when you are in need of some motivation. I can absolutely assure you that if you work hard at this and you are persistent towards these goals, you will achieve them. But ultimately it is UP TO YOU!

JOIN DI$CU$ION: What Are Your "Money" Goals?

In addition to this, it would be wonderful if you commented on someone else's goals they have posted within this thread. Aim to comment on at least TWO people's goals. You likely can network with many other "like minded" people here at Wealthy Affiliate and this is a good way to get your networking efforts rolling. We are a friendly bunch here at WA!

If you have any questions about any aspect of the make money process, feel free to leave them in the comments below.

Awesome, off to the next lesson now where you will be "choosing your niche"!

My niche included women age 18-35 that are looking for more guidance on developing better habits personally and financially, to work towards a healthier financial future. I may have started backwards because I have a website drop shipping t-shirts that I design, and in order to bring traffic to my website, I began posting on Instagram finance tips a few times a week. So my question is, even though tshirts have nothing to do with my niche, can I blog on my website about developing better habits personally and financially and still sell my tshirts? And I would want to find affiliate programs to go with what I am blogging about as well.

You'd want to have t-shirt designs that fit within the niche that you are blogging about. That'd be like having a website about small dog toys while also trying to promote opportunities to make money online - Google will be confused about what you are trying to offer to folks and they would notice how irrelevant the content was to what you are trying to promote.

Welcome. It's great to see you have been trying some online things.

It is recommended that you market only products that related to your niche. I would keep your t-shirt drop shipping website completely separate. If drop shipping for t-shirts does not work out for you, you can always create a website for t-shirts and look for affiliate programs that have what you are interested int.

t-shirts + affiliate programs + location (location is optional).

As for your niche idea - women age 18-35 that are looking for more guidance on developing better habits personally and financially, to work towards a healthier financial future, that is a very broad topic. Where will you start start and when will you know you are done? This is a very hot topic.

Maybe you can address questions your audience is lookin for first.

Here are some general niche tips.
A niche is something you feel super excited to write about, a skill you have attained, something that resonates with you. You will want to be focused on one niche. What is it that you want to help a group of people with or what problem do you want to help them solve (group could be age, gender, location, experience level, degree or type of need, etc.)

A niche is not a product, it's a subject that you can help a target audience with. Remember, you are not setting up a shop (store), you will be writing lots of articles about your niche to help your targeted audience.

The importance of a targeted audience is that It's always better to target a specific niche with a specific solution to problems.

Kyles asks us to complete this statement.
'i want to help ____(group) with ______(problem)'

For example. I like camping and what to help campers buy the right equipment to make their camping experience more pleasant and safe.

Camping is a very broad topic with a lot of competition so to eliminate some competition in the beginning so the website has a chance to grow, the focus needs to be a smaller scope. For example essential camping equipment for beginners. Once the website is established and has a good volume, its scope can be expanded to include other things camping related. This is just an example.

Why should you narrow your niche when first starting?
The key to getting started fast is to narrow your niche down to a specific topic. This way, you will eliminate a lot of competition and get results much faster. Once your site is established and you are getting traffic you can expand your niche scope.

Here are a couple of blogs on narrowing and expanding a niche.

Thank you so much for your help. To follow up, if I narrow it down to this statement: I want to help women age 18-35 with saving money, investing, and building healthy habits.
Is this specific enough or should I narrow it down further? These are the main topics that I have been focusing on.

Ok say I believe you are saying you will help these women save and invest money by building healthy saving and investing habits. Yes, that is great

You have a great niche and opportunity here. Once site starts gaining traction, traffic and authority you can expand to other aspects.

Hi

With my dropshipping business if I want to blog related to the t-shirt business vs finance other you'd confuse Google and your visitors. And therefore, ONE niche, a website. Products and programs can be varied however all must be relevant to the niche.

And divert traffic to my t-shirt business vs merchants stores.

You also need to be careful in that niche as perhaps it could be part of the YMYL (Your money or your life) niche and you can directly affect people's lives. You might need a disclaimer for every page. The question is WHO would be your target audience vs Not what you are selling to an audience.

You need aim for ONE focused niche with a specific group of people, I'd go with what's best resonates with me.

The recommendation is to focus on ONE site starting out as it takes lots of effort and work get it going, however once you know what you are doing, then the learning curve would be less steeper to scale up.

You'd want to narrow it down to a subcategory starting out, otherwise you will find it very hard to get noticed by the search engines and to compete with big authority sites. Target audience is important too, who would you be writing to, once you are able to identify them, you are closer to finding a focused niche.

Once a site starts gaining traction, traffic and authority you can then scale to cover another subcategory.

See example blog post below A niche subject is something you are passionate and genuinely interested in could be a hobby or an interest, and know so well you can write plenty original content about.

You may consult with https://answersocrates.com/ for further research into finding a subcategory starting out. You can search what real people are asking as in Questions, Prepositions, Comparisons, in the past, letters and query. It is also great if someone wants to write a thorough research based article.

For example if you are in yoga
Yoga exercises for beginners

When deciding on a niche try narrow it down to a more specific niche, you can ask yourself the following question:

So I want to help people with ____________________ ?

Fill in the blank aand you are going to get closer to a specific audience. Your niche research:-

Questions People are Asking
How to Solutions
Resources Within the Niche
Products You Can Promote/Review
Affiliate Programs
Products
Top Authority Sites/Competitors
Low Competition Keywords
Popular Magazines / Papers / Periodicals
Advertisement Ideas / Headline Ideas

Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

If interested in the make money online niche, you may want to head to the Affiliate Bootcamp You'd also wanting to choose a target audience, folks that resonate with you, know so well and can connect with them through your content. However, we always recommend starting out with own niche vs the Affiliate Bootcamp (make money online niche) as the latter is a lot harder and more competitive, you would need to write 300 to 400 articles before you are able scratch the surface. (vs. 100 articles own niche)

You'd also need to do the whole Bootcamp in its entirety before you can commence with your site.

Recommendation is to focus on ONE niche at a time, even Kyle himself would recommend the same.

I´ve chosen my niche and would like feedback because I´m feeling confused. Starting from broad to specific, I work to help people in professional and personal development, specifically in the areas of international education and (non-academic) experiential learning. I target people who: 1. are recycling professionally, 2. about to finish studying and enter the job market, 3. internship seekers,
4. wanting to upgrade their resumes, 5. hone skills which are best learnt first hand in worldwide settings, 6. digital nomads, 7. volunteers and travelers with a purpose, 8. educational travelers, among others. I understant that this is the niche and not the affiliate product or service which I will be offering which could be anything from accommodation nights to travel gear. In the training video they seem to coincide.

Looks like you have some great knowledge and experience in your chosen niche here.

Glad to see you have identified your subcategories.

it will take time to build and create your content because it needs to be original. Duplicate content is frowned upon.

I would take one of you sub categories and start with it, exhaust the topic from your perspective and move on to the next one.

So the question is which one should you start with?
Which one are you most passionate about, know the most about and feel you could help the most people. Once you help those people well they will want to be return visitors to your site. As you move on to the next subcategory you can do the same with with.
You will have a great website with authority and traffic by the time you are done.

Be patient all of the sub categories cannot be addressed short term. It takes time, but your website will be your long term business online.

Once resource you may want to use to decide which sub category to address first is the following.

"Personal development isn’t a niche. It’s an industry. You’d want to get more specific with what audience you’re helping and what goal within the personal development niche you’re helping with. Time management? Sales training? Law of attraction? Habit formation? Making vision boards?

Hi WA,

I have completed the entire lessons for a while now, but it's been difficult for me to choose a niche and build it up, as highly recommended for a beginner before expanding to other niches.

I'm interested in self development and passionate about creating wealth as a niche. My problem is what kind of products do you guys think I can make money from besides ebook/book sales and online courses?

I really need as many helpful suggestions to narrow this down to a niche that can generate long-term profits. Thanks in advance!

make sure you really know who your audience is in this niche as well as your topic area...
targeting the whole of the self development niche may be a little broad....
how many other opportunities do you need in this niche other than ebook/book and course sales...
only promoting one course could make you very wealthy...as long as it is the right course for your niche....
it maybe worth finding a course that resonates with you and then finding your audience as that way you know that your audience is like you...you then know why you would have selected hte course...and can write articles about this...
i wish you well selecting your audience and topic area....
you may wish to use ' i want to help ____(group) with ____(topic)'
to narrow down your niche....

Anything related to healthy living is a good niche.
However, one thing about Nutrition is - do you have credentials to speak about it? Search engines look for credentials when it comes to health. As a website owner you will le writing 100+ posts over 1000 words each.

Food, processes, facts, longevity, plans, recommendations, research, tips, therapy, transition, etc and for beginners

When deciding on a niche try narrow it down to a more specific niche, you can ask yourself the following question:

So I want to help people with ____________________ ?

Fill in the blank aand you are going to get closer to a specific audience. Your niche research:-

Questions People are Asking
How to Solutions
Resources Within the Niche
Products You Can Promote/Review
Affiliate Programs
Products
Top Authority Sites/Competitors
Low Competition Keywords
Popular Magazines / Papers / Periodicals
Advertisement Ideas / Headline Ideas

Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

I am just going to say; you could try Healthy Living and Nutrition. Then later; if you want to have specific posts on them. You can.

I am just suggesting you leave your Niche Broad. I have run into Members who say they run out of topics to post about. So, I highly suggest you leave your Niche Broad.

Hi all, the niche I’m going to be starting with is mainly Uk focused, the products have a slight variation in names in the US compared to the uk plus most of these product are on Amazon uk, I use to make my own branded products of this type for around 11 years most of my sales were from the uk and Ireland with the odd one further afield. So my question would be do I go with a dot com or dot co dot uk domain as like I said Amazon uk have the largest selection of products for this niche, going to upgrade shortly so I need to decide on this today when I buy my domain, thanks all in advance.

Hi

Looks like you are marketing to the UK and Ireland, I would go with a dot co dot uk, however if global is a dot com.

The preference is of course a dot com.

Just to make you aware WA does not support .co.uk TLD's so you'd have to purchase your domain elsewhere and point it to WA servers should you wish to become a premium as hosting is included with a premium subscription to the platform.

Thanks Abie I think I will go with .uk as that is the main market for this product, it’s something I knows a lot about so should be able to put a website together pretty fast. Thanks for the tip with regards to pointing my uk domain to WA servers, I didn’t know WA did not sell uk domains, which is a shame. I have used Wordpress a lot over the years but still going through all the stages and info on here for best results, never too old to learn a new trick or two.

Sounds like you have a great handle on the UK market. Terrific.
Maybe your can sell your own product again too. If you do you can use WordPress with the plugin WooCommerce to handle inventory, billing and all those customer related things.

When you buy your dot uk domain name and point to the WA servers, here is the DSN

WA Name Servers for Wealthy Affiliate Hosting ALWAYS are: DNS settings
Primary: ns1.mywahosting.com
Secondary: ns2.mywahosting.com

We wish you much success.

Thanks for that I was just trying to find the DSN details before I upgrade and purchase my domain name from a 3rd party, I use to sell on woocommerce but my main sales came from Amazon or eBay, it would take an act of god to outrank my products on Amazon or eBay, maybe it’s how I started off so the big boys had the weight of my listings on their sites for many years before I made my own website, still I can’t complain I did ok out of it, no intention of starting it up again it was very hard work as a one man show. More suited to a couple or family business, I will probably integrate this within my first niche as it’s all related, with details how I made my products with affiliate links for where to purchase the raw materials 😉

Glad our response came in time for the DSN.
Yes, we would agree being an affiliate marketer is so much easier - no product inventory, shipping, billing etc.
And it is true - Amazon and Ebay have a big market share.

The way to help shoppers within your niche is to provide informational help including how tos, products reviews, etc. Those topics are highly sought after and are something that makes niche website marketing a helpful shopping tool for consumers.

You may point your domain to WA servers

To update your domain DNS settings to point to WA. Here are the DNS settings.

ns1.mywahosting.com
ns2.mywahosting.com

These settings will be updated within your domain registrar (where you purchased your domain) after the transfer has taken place. To transfer your domain here you need login current registrar and fetch the EPP code, there's a one year charge of $15, privacy included. One year more will get added to your domain.

Would be nice to hear how you are getting along. Much obliged and best wishes.

Thanks Abie one question if I transfer my new domain to WA do I get free ssl on that domain and can I transfer my domain out should I choose to, well that’s like two questions my bad 🤣

When pointing your domain, yes. WA hosting is very robust you may check further information on below resource

https://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/hosting

If you were to transfer out down the line it is up to the newer hosting provider - so I would advise checking package, their terms and conditions (small print) before signing up.

And no worries you are so very welcome.

In case you want to check your niche idea, here are some niche tips.

First criterion must always be "are you passionate about your niche" because you will write 100+ posts and 200+ is better and they should be 1000+ words to rank well. So whatever you choose always deal with this first. Second think how you can help people solve problems in your niche. Does that excite you? Your degree of passion to help others makes a difference. A website is more than selling. The focus needs to be helping.
