How Will YOU Make Money Online?

Great question!

The reality is that there are many ways to make money online! The problem is that people often get distracted by the "latest and greatest" product or service and they are never able to build a successful (and revenue generating) business as a result.

Today I am going to run you through one of the most fundamental, yet powerful processes of generating revenue online.

It is a proven process, it is one that we use, and one that 100,000's of other Wealthy Affiliate members use. It is also the ultimate "making money" process that worked 5 years ago and it is going to work 5 years from now (and beyond). It is a process that will reveal as much opportunity in the massive online world as you are willing to work for!

It is called Affiliate Marketing.

But, just one thing before you get into the MONEY "stuff"...

The making money part of your business won't happen quite yet.

Before you earn money, you are going to first be focusing on creating your niche website (which will take place in the next two lessons) and are working to get traffic to your website. Without a website, without content, and without traffic, the MONEY part simply doesn't happen.

So don't look at this like a race. You will reach success and a great deal of it, but before you build your own personal SKYSCRAPER of a business, you must first have a solid FOUNDATION to build it on. That is going to be our first goal within the Getting Started training. Cool?

Alright, let's continue on! :)

Below is a video walk-through of today's lesson and the process of "How to Make Money Online - The Process Explained". Just click the PLAY button to watch it!

In the coming days you are going to be working through this process and by the end of this Level 1 training alone, you are going to have an awesome foundation in place that will lead you to much greater success.

Task #1: Understand the Make Money Process

There are MANY different ways that you can earn money online and many different ways in which you can build an entire business. The most lucrative and the one that we have been teaching here at Wealthy Affiliate for the past 14 years is Affiliate Marketing.

Below is a diagram outlining the process of making money through affiliate marketing.

There are now over 4 BILLION people online as of 2019 (YOUR audience) and these people are going to search engines, social media, or visiting websites for help all the time.

These people are looking for information, solutions to problems and to buy stuff.

That is where you are going to come in with your website and help these "audiences" by offering them information about what they are looking for. You will be "helping" these people, recommending products/services they can benefit from, and you earn affiliate commissions ($$) as a result.

There are over 550 MILLION products/services that you can promote as an affiliate marketer. The opportunity is incredible and it is only growing!

By Lesson 4 of this course you are going to have your very own "niche" website in place that you will use to connect with your chosen audience and make money with. You will have your very own slice of the internet opportunity.

Task #2: Create (Write Down) Your Financial Goals

You want to earn revenue right? That is great! In order to earn anything however, you need to have some goals in place.

In this task we want you to join in on a "money goals" discussion here at Wealthy Affiliate. You are going to be telling us what your goals are and going forward, we are going to be helping you achieve these very goals!

QUESTION #1: How much money would you be happy earning?

QUESTION #2: How much would you be ecstatic (ie, really excited) earning?

QUESTION #3: And how much TIME are you willing to invest to achieve these goals?

PLEASE make 100% sure that you do not skip this step and you revisit this post regularly when you are in need of some motivation. I can absolutely assure you that if you work hard at this and you are persistent towards these goals, you will achieve them. But ultimately it is UP TO YOU!

JOIN DI$CU$ION: What Are Your "Money" Goals?

In addition to this, it would be wonderful if you commented on someone else's goals they have posted within this thread. Aim to comment on at least TWO people's goals. You likely can network with many other "like minded" people here at Wealthy Affiliate and this is a good way to get your networking efforts rolling. We are a friendly bunch here at WA!

If you have any questions about any aspect of the make money process, feel free to leave them in the comments below.

I have moved on to "Understanding Keywords" in lesson 8 but am not happy with how I have left " Placing custom menus in widgets"
I have a sidebar that is below my webpage but not on it. It is the sidebar that came with the theme I selected, it contains the following.

Favorite Posts

Have selected and installed 3 plugins recommended by a member, which are Classic Editor, Classic Widgets, and Custom Sidebars. These were installed because Kyles page was different from mine because Wordpress had an update making it different from Kyles. I am concerned that my sidebar is not on my web page. A final strange thing is when I click in my Search box there appears the following :
Swivel recliner chair
Pretty Links

Is this strange or am I missing something?
I am a little lost as I have never built a website before and is causing frustration and stress

I looked at lots of "Themes" andnot sure exactly what I should be looking for? My niche is brain health. Should I just be choosing a Theme that I like the layout of, and then I am going to add my own photos and copy? Not exactly how to use "Themes"/
AbieAJ Premium Plus

The majority here use the GeneratePress theme, however you may go to Appearance > Themes and add new.

Input what you are looking for, install and activate.

Themes can be customized, they do not have to follow your niche.

We always recommend leaving a back up, you may do with the Twenty TwentyOne

GeneratePress is extremely light, fast, well coded, SEO optimised, flexible, adaptable and customisable

Yes, the way to look for a theme is to look at the features you want.
For example some Themes have 2 header menus - top and main; some themes have footer columns and foot menus. Some have built in breadcrumbs (showing the URL path using title of page) to current page or post. some have more widgets than others.

And some are faster than others. Some are created by theme companies (those are more dependable). some are more popular (the more a theme is used the more pressure there is on the theme developer to keep in touch with trends. .

We have chosen a theme that is fast, very popular and has more features than some. We are using a free theme and chose not to use Generate Press because the free version does not have enough features for us. Our theme developer even adds features to the free version which doesn't happen to most free theme.
If you want to know what theme we use send us a PM.

You will add your own images so don't look for a theme with the right images. Unless you are selling your own products you will not want a theme with a store layout.

Hope that helsp.

I’ve got this msg coming up when I’m trying to activate widgets:

Your theme has 1 widget area, but this particular page doesn’t display it.

You can navigate to other pages on your site while using the Customizer to view and edit the widgets displayed on those pages.

I have tried a few things, like going to different pages, but it doesn’t help. Has anyone got any suggestions?
jghwebbrand Premium
I am not sure what theme you are using.
It could be a theme response

You may have the new widget update from WordPress.

You may install the classic widgets plugin and with the classic editor.

Initially you may download to your PC and then upload .zip files to your WordPress sites back office.

Or go to Plugins > Add new, input classic widgets, install and activate.

However in the standard view you may click the plus to add something or the three dots and choose to remove a block from the drop down menu.

Thank you. I did it, it’s easier to chose all the widgets now, but they still don’t appear on the site.

The theme is called Brite. There is a big photo and seems like a widget wouldn’t go there. I’ll explore a bit more to see if I can fit it somehow.

Looking at demo, seems like it has a slider.

If this is not the one, kindly let us know.

Another option is to choose a theme like Kyle used for (Hero) and create a static home page and insert an image at the very top of the page. And do the same with each post.

An idea for my niche.
I have had some training in massage.
I have had clients in the past but now my wife is the only person I massage.
It is definitely something I enjoy doing even if the massage is not reciprocated lol
So I was thinking online massage courses.
Do you think this is specific enough.
jghwebbrand Premium
What a great topic. So very helpful.
Are there massage types? And are there multiple massages for each type? If no your niche i narrow enough.

You will want to identify an audience you want to help to you get targeted traffic. This will eliminate some of your competition and give your website a better chance to rank when it is just beginning.

A niche is not a product, it's a subject that you can help a target audience with. Remember, you are not setting up a shop (store), you will be writing lots of articles about your niche to help your targeted audience.

Kyles asks us to complete this statement.
'i want to help ____(group) with ______(problem)'

For example. I like camping and what to help campers buy the right equipment to make their camping experience more pleasant and safe.

Camping is a very broad topic with a lot of competition so to eliminate some competition in the beginning so the website has a chance to grow, the focus needs to be a smaller scope. For example essential camping equipment for beginners. Once the website is established and has a good volume, its scope can be expanded to include other things camping related. This is just an example.

Use tools like the following to see questions you can address for your niche. and Google search scroll down and find "People also ask section" or use
Why should you narrow your niche when first starting?
The key to getting started fast is to narrow your niche down to a specific topic. This way, you will eliminate a lot of competition and get results much faster. Once your site is established and you are getting traffic you can expand your niche scope.

Here are a couple of blogs on narrowing and expanding a niche.
How to narrow a niche down How To Expand Your niche later Here are some more things to think about when choosing a niche

Online courses is cool, you may use the LifterLMS tool.

That's a great niche to be in however broad you may want to narrow it down to a subcategory starting out, otherwise you will find it very hard to get noticed by the search engines and to compete with big authority sites. Target audience is important too, who would you be writing to, once you are able to identify them, you are closer to finding a focused niche.

Once a site starts gaining traction, traffic and authority you can then scale to cover another subcategory.

See example blog post below A niche subject is something you are passionate and genuinely interested in could be a hobby or an interest, and know so well you can write plenty original content about.

ONE niche, a website. Products and programs can be varied however all must be relevant to the niche.

You may consult with for further research into finding a subcategory starting out. You can search what real people are asking as in Questions, Prepositions, Comparisons, in the past, letters and query. It is also great if someone wants to write a thorough research based article.

For example if you are in massage

Swedish Massage.
Deep Tissue Massage.
Lymphatic Massage.
Sports Massage.
Oncology Massage.

Relieve stress
Relieve postoperative pain
Reduce anxiety
Manage low-back pain
Help fibromyalgia pain
Reduce muscle tension
Enhance exercise performance
Relieve tension headaches

Effleurage (Stroking)

When deciding on a niche try narrow it down to a more specific niche, you can ask yourself the following question:

So I want to help people with ____________________ ?

Fill in the blank and you are going to get closer to a specific audience. Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

Possible programs

You can do a google search
Your niche + affiliate programs
Your niche + affiliate programs + location
and see what results you get

Meanwhile I'd ask as many questions as I want to get clarifications,

Welcome to WA and our community.

Would be nice to hear how you are getting along. Much obliged and best wishes.

In narrowing down the niche I thought massage oil might be a good place to start.
Should I narrow this niche down even further.
Does it work to be region specific.
