How Will YOU Make Money Online?

Great question!

The reality is that there are many ways to make money online! The problem is that people often get distracted by the "latest and greatest" product or service and they are never able to build a successful (and revenue generating) business as a result.

Today I am going to run you through one of the most fundamental, yet powerful processes of generating revenue online.

It is a proven process, it is one that we use, and one that 100,000's of other Wealthy Affiliate members use. It is also the ultimate "making money" process that worked 5 years ago and it is going to work 5 years from now (and beyond). It is a process that will reveal as much opportunity in the massive online world as you are willing to work for!

It is called Affiliate Marketing.

But, just one thing before you get into the MONEY "stuff"...

The making money part of your business won't happen quite yet.

Before you earn money, you are going to first be focusing on creating your niche website (which will take place in the next two lessons) and are working to get traffic to your website. Without a website, without content, and without traffic, the MONEY part simply doesn't happen.

So don't look at this like a race. You will reach success and a great deal of it, but before you build your own personal SKYSCRAPER of a business, you must first have a solid FOUNDATION to build it on. That is going to be our first goal within the Getting Started training. Cool?

Alright, let's continue on! :)

Below is a video walk-through of today's lesson and the process of "How to Make Money Online - The Process Explained". Just click the PLAY button to watch it!

In the coming days are going to be working through this process and by the end of this Level 1 training alone, you are going to have an awesome foundation in place that will lead you to much greater success.

Task #1: Understand the Make Money Process

There are MANY different ways that you can earn money online and many different ways in which you can build an entire business. The most lucrative and the one that we have been teaching here at Wealthy Affiliate for the past 14 years is Affiliate Marketing.

Below is a diagram outlining the process of making money through affiliate marketing.

There are now over 4 BILLION people online as of 2019 (YOUR audience) and these people are going to search engines, social media, or visiting websites for help all the time.

These people are looking for information, solutions to problems and to buy stuff.

That is where you are going to come in with your website and help these "audiences" by offering them information about what they are looking for. You will be "helping" these people, recommending products/services they can benefit from, and you earn affiliate commissions ($$) as a result.

There are over 550 MILLION products/services that you can promote as an affiliate marketer. The opportunity is incredible and it is only growing!

By Lesson 4 of this course you are going to have your very own "niche" website in place that you will use to connect with your chosen audience and make money with. You will have your very own slice of the internet opportunity.

Task #2: Create (Write Down) Your Financial Goals

You want to earn revenue right? That is great! In order to earn anything however, you need to have some goals in place.

In this task we want you to join in on a "money goals" discussion here at Wealthy Affiliate. You are going to be telling us what your goals are and going forward, we are going to be helping you achieve these very goals!

QUESTION #1: How much money would you be happy earning?

QUESTION #2: How much would you be ecstatic (ie, really excited) earning?

QUESTION #3: And how much TIME are you willing to invest to achieve these goals?

PLEASE make 100% sure that you do not skip this step and you revisit this post regularly when you are in need of some motivation. I can absolutely assure you that if you work hard at this and you are persistent towards these goals, you will achieve them. But ultimately it is UP TO YOU!

JOIN DI$CU$ION: What Are Your "Money" Goals?

In addition to this, it would be wonderful if you commented on someone else's goals they have posted within this thread. Aim to comment on at least TWO people's goals. You likely can network with many other "like minded" people here at Wealthy Affiliate and this is a good way to get your networking efforts rolling. We are a friendly bunch here at WA!

If you have any questions about any aspect of the make money process, feel free to leave them in the comments below.

Awesome, off to the next lesson now where you will be "choosing your niche"!

Can I make money as a starter membership? Hello, My name is Khadija Wilkins and I literally just joined today. I like so far what I'm hearing but I also been through PLENTY of scams online!!! Even lost tons of money. I DON'T have ANY money to spare right now but that could change in the future. However, I'm willing to give WA a chance and I will follow the necessary steps. Hopefully, it will be a wonderful experience as I am reading. Nice to meet all of you!

I totally hear you on the scam part. I have over 12 years experience in affiliate marketing. I have been a member here for about nine days and can honestly tell you this is the opportunity I have been looking for for over 12 years.

I can't guarantee you will make money as a starter member., I do know that WA gives you two free websites and will keep them for 6 months free. After that they are cancelled unless you go Premium. In the first week you get unlimited access to all the chat and communication features. They are limited after the first week as a starter. here you have an amazing community thats here to support and help you every step along the the way.

I'll add my two blog post there what I have shared just in the last few days and will be sharing lots more you can tell me if it's useful I designed them to be able to help give everyone here a jump start free of charge,

I don't know your level of affiliate marketing skills but with the information in the blogs you could possible be making money in the first week. And I don't mean a fortune but generating money from clicks that become sales that eventually one day hopefully turns into a fortune. Again this depends on you and how hard you are willing to work and the knowledge you have already. In my first week I built 2 websites. Found an affiliate company through WA, it's CJ affiliates, I applied to 2778 affiliate programs through them and have been approved for 335 so far in my second blog I tell you how I did it and how you can too.

I did all this in the first week. I purposely waited to get my Premium so I could see exactly what could be done. I would have paid for it instantly if there was only an hour trial. And like you I'm spread pretty thin right now with everything that's going on with my business expansions.

You have the first week with almost all the features. I'd get as much done here as you can I'm sure you will be amazed like I was and know you will choose to go premium, and have six months to
before you really need to stress

Best of luck to you, let me know if you need any help and never be afraid to ask anyone here for help anytime even if one of us might not know the answers we will help you to find them...

Hey everyone, I'm on lesson 8 about widgets. I have followed the directions several times and can't get a sidebar on my site. I can easily get the footers.
Maybe my template won't do this.
I also followed directions on getting rid of the search bar and Twitter symbol with no luck.
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
You can go through your site dashboard and see if it's there as a option, but most of the time things like sidebars, footers, etc. are all controlled by the theme you are using; in other words, some themes were simply build without them. Play around with it to be sure, but you may have to select a different theme that includes the features you desire.

I had a problem with things not showing when I first started. Not sure if it is the same thing, some of my images and things I was adding weren't showing because my web browser pop up blocker was blocking them. They were there but blocked.

Not sure if it is the same but try adjusting your pop up blocker settings. Mine allows me to turn them off per website. I'm using the new free browser Brave its Google based and they even pay you for using it.

Jonathon...
Reply
They pay you? wow.
Reply
JonathonLowe Premium
Yes it's not much but anything is better than nothing I'm at $1.03USD in about 10 days. It's super cool because they block all the adds and suggest adds to you if you view the adds they pay you around 3 cents and I checked they even pay if you check the same add more than once.

It was suggested to me by another WA member because my Safari browser didn't work at all with the WA website and was crashing out while I was trying to watch the training videos.

If you use the Brave browser be sure to shut off the pop up blocker on the WA website, your website builder dashboard page
and your main websites. It blocks everything literally. If a website seams like it didn't load right or is missing things turn off the pop up blocker and it will reload and not be hiding the missing things.

To turn off the pop up blocker click on the Lion Head it's at the top right. If it's on it will be orange and if it's off its grey. you just click the shields on or off from the drop down menu that appears when you click the Lion Head.

Jonathon.

PS Make sure that everything is saved before turning the shields on or off.

Can I delete my initial wordpress website? I believe its niche to not be viable. I have considered other possible viable niches and would rather promote them. If the answer is yes, does it still count toward the 25 free wordpress sites I receive as a Premium Member? To all respondents, thank you for your time.

Hey Mike

Unless you have already used all of your free sites I wouldn't delete it.

You might find something that will jump start that niche again and you don't want to loose all your hard work and start again.

I recommend building your new site keep the old.

In your new site you could mention your old one and add a link to it, it could possible take off with the exposure on your new site. Just as an example...

Thanks Jonathon. I'll build the new ones, There is no relevance between them and the original one I created during the training process. I was just wondering if I could eliminate it and start over, and not have it count toward my 25 options/opportunities.

Hi Mike,

Jonathan's advice is bang on. Park up your website and start a new one. You never know when you might want to go back to the old site and keep going with it.

Also, as a Premium member you can have up to 50 websites, not 25, hosted by WA. So you are unlikely to run out of hosting slots any time soon!

Best wishes

Thanks for the like Mike.

One thing I should have mentioned to is that with linking you old site to you new site. It's a good idea to incorporate links of all your sites to all your other sites.

And can be done simply by adding a sub menu or main menu option.

For example as a sub menu under the Home page menu, you can add a page and call it something like: More From this Publisher, See More, Mikes Sites etc. On the page it links to have all your websites with a brief description and links to each one this can be a great way to get exposure to all of your sites as well as building your following.

For example a patron from one site might love that site and still check out your other ones that may be of no interest to them. But they check them out anyway because they are a fan of the one site that they love. It can help to increase traffic drastically to all your sites. Generally if some one likes your site they probably want more. This page is also a good place to add your WA affiliate links.

No problem.

With my 24+ years of marketing and advertising experience. The most important thing is exposure and with the free websites and all the other incredible tools that WA provides for us. The possibilities are endless.

A important thing to when it comes to Niches is that no niche is a bad niche if you thought about it that means others are too. If it's one thats really popular and has high completion. Having the other websites with other niches can be a great way to break into the high competition niches by using the linking strategy of your websites that I mentioned.

Best of Luck to you.

Yes, if you delete it, you'll still have room for 25 free websites.

But as everyone else said, you really shouldn't do this. You have room, it's kind of unlikely to start so many free websites, so keep it.

You never know. You may decide to give it another chance.

Hi Mike . You can delete your first site but the domain remains yours until renewal in one year's time. I'm inclined to agree with the others. Park your website, start building a new one and check what you want to do with the old one in a few months time. You would have to check with Kyle or Carson regarding if it will remain one of the twenty five if you delete it. But i personally believe it won't because you are paying to host 25 websites and if it's deleted it obviously won't need hosting. Jim

Hi Kyle...I don't know if you saw my reply to your reply, but I realized that I did not state my issue clearly at all.

After choosing Widgets, in the video you chose the Navigation Menu...and the drop-down gave you a list: Header, sub Footer 1, Sub Footer 2, etc.

Mine does NOT do that. When I click on the Navigation Menu, I only have one choice in the drop-down (which really makes it useless...but still): Primary is the only thing listed there.

So I don't know how to place my menu on the bottom of the page.

I really think I have a later version of WP than what you used in the video, and there is probably still a way to do the same thing you did in the video, but I have not been able to find it.

I'm attaching some screenshots so that you can see the difference in what you showed in the video, and how it really is now in this latest version.

Hope this helps explain the issue...so sorry not to be clear earlier.

Things like menus are typically dependent on the theme that you are using and what the theme designer was trying to accomplish. My guess is that you are not using the same theme as Kyle, hence your challenge. Consider swapping over to his until you get through all the lessons and have a better understanding of how WordPress works. Sure, his ain't the prettiest, but you can always switch back after you gain a better understanding of all the ins-and-outs. Hope this helped :-)

Well, I'm not totally sure, but the screenshots were of WP, and not my website...

I ran into a similar issue before, and it's so frustrating, but thanks for your input on the matter.
Reply
Moonflower3 Premium
Well it turns out that you were right...I went and changed my theme to the one that Kyle used in the video, and that made the Navigation Menu drop-down the same.

I didn't realize that the theme would affect WP like that, but obviously it can and does.

Thanks so much for that info! I am much less frustrated now :)

My idea for a niche has been preworkout supplements since I started looking into affiliate marketing. I thought it was very "nichy"

They just used a preworkout site as an example in the training video. Not so unusual anymore. Does anyone think this idea for this niche may not be good?

Yes, it will still be good. There is propably not a niche in existence that does not already have affilaite sites promoting it. That does not mean you can't do it too. The internet is big, and there is plenty of room for all.

Hi Jim

The fact that it's used for an example is a good thing. Kyle wants us all to succeed. The main example is Amazon which is one of the best and easiest ways to make money at affiliate marketing. And one of the ones I always suggest. Especially if you are new. For example with your preworkout niche they have thousand of relevant products for you to use to earn money..

The amazon affiliate program can be hard to join but if you check out my blog that I posted today.

" Affiliate Approval and What That Means For You"

In it I discus how to obtain affiliate programs. Have a list of 126 that approve instantly through one affiliate company. In total as of now there are 324 that I have been approved for. I give my strategies for how to obtain the other 198. As well as my new strategy to explode everyones earning potential with affiliate marketing.

In the list of 126 affiliate programs that will approve immediately there are two that are for Nutritional supplements. And there is around 10 more in the other list I will be releasing soon.

Exercise and preworkout niches are some of the best they are things that will never go away. If it's your passion I say go for it and remember this is just your first niche. Tons more will come to you as you progress here before you know it you won't know which one to focus on the most.

Best of luck to you.

Hi Kyle,

I'm trying to figure out the access I'm supposed to have on Jaaxy. I just joined WA this week and upgraded to premium. I thought that gave the level of access in Jaaxy you show during your keyword training. However, when I'm in Jaaxy I have a very short list of results and nothing displays in the QSR column.

I also have a question about the billing for WA - I intended to pay $234 for 6 months of premium membership, but have been billed and (unintentionally) paid for an additional $126. I find that confusing, so if you could explain it I'd appreciate it.

Thank you,

you guys are all so helpful! i have another question: is making a website centered around a well known celebrity/actors a good niche? I would promote the products they use by bringing fans to that page and talking about the clothing products, digital products, makeup products, etc. that they use and have affiliate links to those products. I just thought this might be different because it is not solely for product reviews but to learn about the celebrities and then the products they use and the people might be compelled to use the products because the people they look up to use them as well.

there are more niches than anyone of us could even imagine. I would choose something much more specific like luxury jewelry, organic makeup sets or some specific digital product niche like smart TVs and accessories. Don't focus on several big topics (with thousands of niches inside). And you need to give solutions to your visitor's problems or help them to fill their needs. No matter if celebrities use those products or not, you can be the celebrity yourself in the future ;)! do WA training, it's super useful and you will find much more and better answers than I can offer.

Reply
merlynmac Premium
It can be a good niche but you'd have to get a lot of traffic to get to the products through your links for the commissions and, if they're "affordable", you're going to have to have a lot of that traffic to make decent money. That said, it can be done.

As for an authentic review, as long as you're doing research and not just making the stuff up, you should be fine. Yes, hands-on is preferred but it's not required.
Reply
webcash2us Premium
The niche sounds great and leaves you ample room to create content. However, if you don't use the product yourself then you have no first hand experience to speak of to visitors.

In this case, you will want to do a lot of product research to offer accurate information. Do not copy the product description and use that on your site.

Create your own review of the product and continue adding more site content with more product reviews.

I wish you all the best.
Reply
JKulk1 Premium
I would personally take away the 'affordable' part and narrow it down a little. Something like "Cute gifts for kids" would be better. Otherwise you will be limiting yourself to products that may only make you 50 cents commission. All the best Jim

Yeah, exactly. Writing is simply communicating an idea with others, nothing more complex than that.

I usually tell people to write in a way that they would their friend, how would you explain something, how would you communicate it, and how would you promote/recommend it.

It is this communicative style that tends to lead to better rankings as well.

Who knew the About Me page would be so difficult? I keep getting off-track and writing about my niche instead...which I really would prefer to do.
I don't really like to write about myself...kinda private, ya know? But I DO understand why the About Me page is important.

I've read other people's About Me pages and usually do feel better about the site if there is something like that there. I think I will have to finish it up tomorrow, because it's getting late and my eyes are going now...lol

MoonFlower3, I'm in the process of writing About Me Page as well. I keep re-thinking it. However, I just keep thinking about my niche, and it really helps me. I'm not going to discuss too much personal information about myself either, but only why I chose this Niche and how it has benefit me in the past. I'm tired too, I will finish it tomorrow after a good nights rest :)

Don’t stress too much about your about me page, just put whatever information you can put now and publish it.

You can always edit your page and add more information as you move forward with your website.

I actually just recently updated mine after 8 months, I read my about me page and decided it needed more information so I added and it ended up having 1500 words from I think 500 words.

For a fairly long time I have seen the need for some type of kit that is available to the public that cleans the teeth. I have noticed nothing is available in the stores [and water piks do not clean the teeth as efficiently--according to dentists].
If this type of teeth cleaning kit was online it would sell a lot!

Sounds nice. What's your plan for turning it into a niche affiliate site? Have you found a product similar to the one you are thinking and, if so, do they have an affiliate program? Unless you intend on manufacturing them yourself -- which can be extremely expensive -- you will need to figure out a way to source the product in order to build a site around it. Keep us posted; it sounds interesting :-)
Reply

I have attempted to patent the idea on numerous times; basically it is using products that are already on the market and putting them in a kit.
People are inherently lazy and like the idea of having a product that works effectively. The goal of using this product is both improved overall health and having to reduced use of a dentist [unless you really need to see one].
I use the basic idea myself and have consulted dentist friends of mine and the agree it is very good!

Re the "About Me" page, I don't know that I am comfortable using 'aliases' or 'pen names'. The page says it's about me. But, I am not an alias or pseudonym (pseudo name)? Can somebody resolve this conundrum for me? Maybe I am missing something. Thank you. If I were to say it's about my alter-ego or some other identity, then this commentary would all be acedemic. But, of course, that's not the case. Thanks again.

I have played acoustic guitar for over 50 years (and still do). I have progressed from simple strumming to finger style playing. I absolutely love acoustic guitars and each one has it's own particular tone depending primarily upon the age of the wood. So, what do you think about a niche of "vintage acoustic guitars"? The term "vintage", in the guitar world means 20 years old or older. I know that there are hundreds of websites that sell these because I've probably visited them all. what do you think of this as a niche?
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
That's perfect. One "mistake" that a lot of new members make is jumping into a niche that is too big. For example, they start a generic site on photography, and can't figure out why they aren't getting any traction.

Having said that -- and definitely run the numbers just to be sure -- I have a feeling "vintage acoustic guitars" is right in that sweet "Goldilocks" spot; it feels big enough that you'll see steady traffic, but not so big that you'll get drowned out by more established guitar sites.

Definitely worth checking out. Well done. :-)

Hi, I have targeted my market segment to 20-somethings, specifically after getting their college degrees and how to navigate through life after that.

I wanted to go in the direction of self-help, life tips on a variety of topics (budgeting, corporate jobs, self-care etc.), but I'm having a hard time figuring out a specific niche related to this. I don't see much come up on Google or Amazon when I type words like post-college, adulting, 20-somethings, etc. other than books. Am I using the wrong key words?

Do you have any guidance on how I can re-direct my thoughts or find inspiration through other key words?

I'm spending some time today developing my niche. One of my biggest hobbies and areas of expertise is sewing and costume design so I want to take that and create a website that allows people to get ideas for costumes for several occasions including festivals, parties, nights out, raves, themed events, fancy dress occasions, theatre costumes, LGBT costumes, drag queen/king outfits to name a few.

I want to provide affiliate links to sites so that they can purchase whole costumes, parts of costumes or bare materials to create costumes and create step-by-step posts to show people how to do this as well as which sewing machines and fabrics are best to purchase for beginner/intermediate/advanced projects.

Is this a good niche?

Being in the holiday rental business myself, I would rather give the cottage a name, one which can be the same as your domain name. Build a website with all info about the cottage and the things to do in the surrounding. Why do I say this: as I guess the idea is more to promote your cottage and get as much rental income as possible. Running a blog will give you the needed traffic (seo) after some time.

I’ve given my Niche some thought over the past few weeks and done a bit of research to see what else is out there. I am certain there is a lot of websites that have free something similar but I hope to stand out a bit. I decided to go for a bit of a collaboration with my wife and myself, she has a large amount of knowledge and experience with dieting and Keto as she has been up and down on her weight for a number of years since we started our family and I think I have a bit of a talent for writing, so together I believe we can produce a good, fun and informative website for families that want to live healthy with a Keto basis, trying to tie it in with what kids like too.

Sounds promising! I know just a little about keto, but as a reader I would love to know more about how families attempting keto can more easily avoid any nutritional mistakes, and bonus points if you include meal plans. Maybe you can offer coaching and a paywall for customized plans. Just some ideas! I'm completely an amateur offering encouragement. :)

Hi everyone,

I've taken some time to narrow down my niche and thought of a subject on time management. I'm passionate about saving time each day to do meaningful things (i.e., being outdoors, more social interactions)- and I'd love to help people get better at that.

I've narrowed it down to "I want to help people reduce their screen time, or from excessive electronic use" In the digital era, I know it's a problem for younger people with smartphones and tablets, and I want to do a blog on the subject and promote time management products/tools as well.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Should I stick with it or narrow it down further?

Hello from Nottingham! Other than Amazon which will accept new sites with relatively little content, other programs will inspect your site and expect to see at least 10 to 15 posts. However, they all have different rules, and you would have to see if it is covered in their terms and conditions.

It would be interesting discussing a chronological biography of your behaviors and habits - a sort of "target the cause - to trigger a solution" blog that tells about your experiences and how in your opinion they led up to these health issues, plus segments on what you're doing to reduce them, eliminate them from the roots up, heal them.

In the USA most people focus on symptom-reduces. The cause is brushed under the rug. Since you have experience on multiple topics, I think a holistic angle would give you the greatest range of content which you could easily write and connect people with.

Everyone has to sleep while only men have prostates, so maybe that's part of my answer. Many people struggle with sleep problems, but my question is how do you write reviews for products if you haven't tried them? And how in the world can you try multiple mattresses, pillows, snoring devices, sleep apnea masks, etc. without spending a bunch of money buying these products?
Reply
J-KWest Premium
Trying a product for ourselves is one way to review a product and it's great when you have the opportunity to do so, but it also has it's limitations.

If I was reviewing a guitar for example, people reading my review would want to know if it's good for them. They don't care if it's good for me.

And my opinion is just one among many. If they want individual reviews they can go to Amazon or somewhere else for those, and they probably will.

So our job is to go deeper and get to the real reasons someone might want to buy something, or why it might benefit them... and we do that through research rather than testing.

All of the physical aspects of a product and it's features we can find online and those are definitely provided in your review. And then you would look at the current reviews to find patterns.

Going back to the guitar example, I might find several people across a handful of different review sites saying there was something about the guitar that was causing their fretting hand to hurt or get tired after a a certain duration of playing.

So I'd write that if a person had mild arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome or a previous injury to their to fretting hand, there could be potential issues.

This might be something you'd never learn by testing the guitar yourself.

On the other hand, the guitar might shine in other areas and be great for a person under XYZ circumstances.

After a while you become very familiar with these products. You know which brands tend to have certain issues, whether they are design, construction or customer service issues for example.

You learn which types and brands are best for certain types of people. Which brands appeal to a certain crowd (young or old for example, or genre of music).

A guitar might be great for people simply because it looks cool among a certain crowd. In that case, the way it plays may be a secondary consideration. Again, all things you learn as you gain experience in your niche.

And these principles apply across all niches in their own way.

Hope that helps :-)

Hi everyone! Another newbie here. I am passionate about improving care for the elderly and informing people (staff or family) how to give better care. There wouldnt be anything I specifically would be selling - I just wanted to blog and let people who want to use my ideas, or comment, go ahead and make use of the resources I have. Could I make a living via affiliated advertising? What do you all think of this as an idea - is it rubbish? I remember when I worked in a nursing home I trawled and trawled the net looking for ideas, for information. Ill appreciate all your comments :)

Your passion is super! However, I would rethink on the selling. Sure you can make some money from ads but you need a lot of traffic to make that worth it. (In some cases, 10,000 views a month...) When it comes to the elderly, what type of supplies do they need? You can recommend various items like the lift up chairs, certified in home care nurse programs, medical alert equipment, etc. You could even recommend comfortable clothes specifically for their needs. Just go to google and type in nursing home affiliate program. Tons of results for this one option. You could do thorough reviews on why you Would or would not choose them. I saw one for Alzheimer’s store. Then go to amazon and type in senior. See what items they've recommended. Oh what about books and guides and certifications on senior care? There are many directions you could go. Narrow down a few focuses and then write a lot of content about each focus at a time. Feel free to DM me to bounce around ideas. I think the sky is the limit for you!

Hi - you can cancel your subscription by clicking on your profile photo, going to account settings, then membership. You would then click cancel billing.

So, as you can see, you have to do it yourself. There is no minimum contract or penalty. The only things to be aware of is that there are no refunds, and also, once you have upgraded to premium, if you then cancel, you can't go back to being a free member. You would lose all access to this platform.

If you purchase your own .com domain (the cost of which is not included in your subscription) and then cancel your premium membership, you are given 30 days to move your website to another hosting provider.

So i plan show the key areas of life where people ''will shoot for greatness'' once they open the website, they will see 3 divisions where says ''Professional and finances ------ Business success ---- health and vitality''.
is that a great way to do what you suggest feigner?
Reply
DianeScorpio Premium
That's fair enough then if you actually already own it.

Do pay attention to what Phil (@feigner) has said though. Its a very broad niche and you are targeting several different audiences. You wish to be seen as an authority in a particular subject, not as somebody who "dabbles" in lots of things. It may be challenging to keep an equal amount of content in all the different areas of your site.

Say, for example, I find your site by searching for an article on health, but discover that all the rest of your content is on professional and business topics, then I would soon leave.
Reply
feigner Premium
any of those three areas could be sites within themselves - so with say business success, you can break this down further into the various sections and work on these before going into the other areas, rather than writing about all three.
this will give your site focus and as Diane says not have someone who 'dabbles' in this and that.
you can over time , once seen as an authority in one area move into another and build that up.
but i would concentrate on one of those areas to start with and gain authority in that before adding one of the other areas.

Hi! so, in the "choosing a niche" video, it is said that one should continue with OEC training for your own niche, or 'bootcamp' for promoting WA, and doing both trainings (it sounds like) is not recommended. Is that because they are redundant? or just to keep beginner's focused in one specific niche first?
It is my intention to both promote WA with a site and also to build a site relating to healthy herbal supplements, so what is the recommended way to proceed with training?

Finish OEC for your niche site first is the way to go.

Honestly, you can do whatever you want to do. You can promote WA if you want. It's a product that is proven and it works.
That said, there are a lot of seasoned marketers out there who are promoting Wealthy Affiliate.

Competition is fierce unless you know something that I don't know? If you already have a niche that you are involved in and you know the product and you can write good content then I would suggest that you stick with it.

Why scatter your focus for a long shot? Look, I like WA a lot, but I'm here for me, and I am paying for me, as far as I'm concerned they get mine every month. I don't owe them anything.

Besides, if it wasn't for members like me and many others before me they would have to employ a help desk 24/7 to monitor and assist all the paying members and many more that are free?

Take care of yourself, and if you want to promote WA then by all means do it.

Good luck,
David

Thanks for your thoughts. My original line of thinking was to promote an online money-making opportunity because they have such a massive market, proven sales history and universal appeal. However, I didn't want to promote any un-ethical get rich schemes or courses, so I spent much time thinking about other niches that I might wish to develop.
Since investigating WA, however, it occurred to me that I could do both, I didn't figure two sites as too much scattering. However, when learning the processes and best practices involved while spending the least amount of money, it makes sense to avoid a niche with strong competition...

@JonDeva when i started is just like you .I dont know what else i want to do .doing the OEC or Affiliate BootCamp. Is really an overwhelming on what to do is so broad here with so much thing to learn and go though. So i suggest you go for 1 thing 1st focus on 1 thing first,If you cant decided on your niche just go thought the training the OEC the 10 lesson. You got to start somewhere anyhow.I started with OEC even thought i want to go for bootcamp
but my instinct or intution tell me i will finish the OEC first you got to be patient as learning takes time .Took me two months to decide
i join the starter membership in June 2019 and it went all the way to July 2019.Two months just there not moving or procastinating into what to do.Just struck at lesson 1-3.Then came August 1st i decided enough is enough i commited to accepted the premium offer of $19.A discount. From there i just be commited and take action to learn the OEC till my premium end in 31August 2019..Then i sign up to continue a years subcription on 1st september till 2020.So i think to just do one thing first. While learning the OEC i started to explore to how i recommend WA to my friends and colleage .All all sort of things like writing a blog and engaging in the community by giving .All the best

To be honest, any niche you venture into will have competition.
I say if you don’t have lots of experience in Affiliate Marketing, start by building your niche site and completing the entrepreneurial certificate.

Then once you have a fair amount of content on you niche site, start working on your bootcamp website by going through the boot camp training.

I have done both courses and I found boot camp even though it has more lessons, it’s easier to follow after you have completed the entrepreneur certificate.

Because there are some lessons that are similar.

I wish you success in your business.

Unfortunately I will not be able to avoid the problem of overthinking the niche :( To that end, Isn't it a problem to choose a niche where you may be promoting products that you do not necessarily have direct experience with? For instance, if I were to choose exercise treadmills I have plenty of experience on a few different treadmills, but how can that translate to honest content about all kinds of models that I have never actually seen? Seems like you could easiliy get into a position where you are promoting stuff that you have not actually used.
Reply
kimwolfe Premium
You will hear mixed answers about recommending products that you haven’t used. Some will say this is ok and some will say you should use everything you recommend. The main point is to recommend products you actually know something about. You - actually have a leg up! Because you have used a few treadmills, you can recommend the ones you use and review all of them, even if you haven’t used them. And lead all reviews to the ones you have used and the ones you recommend. You have experience with treadmills to know what features look for, compare warranties and such. You are in a great position because you already know the topic. You could also go to stores to actually look at different models and take your own pics for your blog. Don’t let overthinking talk you out of moving forward and learning from experience rather than fearing what you don’t know.

Hi - it is perfectly acceptable to review products you don't own, and there is lots of training on how to do this.

In essence, you are curating information for potential customers, to save them time having to research themselves.

Hi Michael,

I think Diane and Kim gave you some great help with your question. However, I would like to add that you can write a review for any product in the world if you have ever touched it or not.

A review is just your opinion from whatever information you can gather on the product if you think it would be a useful product or not. Additionally, just because you don't care for or would not use a certain product that does not mean that others should not or will not like it either.

Everyone has their own opinion on products and whether or not they would be useful or not, so don't forget to provide product links even to the products you personally don't recommend.

Believe me, and I speak from experience on this one, they will still buy the product if you recommend it or not. I have made commissions from sales of products that I tell people that I felt they were a straight-up waste of money, but they bought them away and they used my link to do so!

So people think that if you do not touch the product that any review is dishonest. I ask you do you think that every flyer you receive in the mail or get t with the Sunday p newspaper that those people try those products that they are advertising and give a description of? NO

And they are not considered as being dishonest: a review is just another way of saying "my opinion is this" or "here are the differences I have found between product "A" and product "B".

Also, you do not promote you recommend!

There is a difference, you need to learn that quickly, as your audience knows the difference and most as soon as they think you are promoting something will look for another review giving an honest opinion on the product they are thinking about buying.

Hope this helps you sort out your dilemma.

Hi there! Completely new to WA and I have a few questions for established members.

How many of you have started from scratch and earned a decent wage? How much money have you had to pay to get where you are now? How long did it take you to start feeling like you were having a decent income coming in?

A question for newer members; how are you finding the process of getting established? Are you happy with your progress so far?

I am 100% a hard worker but I also know that if this area is saturated and the competition is thick that it will be a difficult uphill battle. Also trying figure out whether this is the best platform for me as an artist. Any advice?

SO quick question for everyone. Lets say I create a website with links to amazon. Someone goes onto my site, clicks the link and then sees the product, doesn't buy that day and then later on comes back to it just using Amazon not your site. You do not get the commission from that purchase do you?
Reply
Ropesa Premium
This is actually going to answer you cookie question too.

If someone clicks on your amazon link and they don’t make a purchase within 24 hours, if they come later and buy the product without going through your link again, you will not get the commission.

So cookie length refers to how much time the customer has to make the purchase for you to get commission.

So if the cookie is 90 days then that means you will get a commission if the purchase is made within the 90 days.

Hope this helps.

Quick question the niche i want to dive into is soccer equipment. I have a always been a huge soccer fan. Would I have to choose one thing in that niche? So like can i choose soccer jerseys's and promote all different jerseys's, or just soccer boots, or just soccer balls, or just soccer shorts? Does it have to be just one of these products?
Reply
merlynmac Premium
You want to narrow the niche down to a focus point where you can really target your audience but not so much as to tie your hands... You could go jerseys or you could go apparel, etc. another angle might be fan merchandise and kind of pick Jay's football snack helmets site as a template.

Hi Joseph, great niche!

For sure don't limit yourself when you think about your domain name. So have a domain name that tells people is about soccer but don't limit it to any one type of product as you listed.

JosephsSoccerTips.com or something similar..

Because it's about soccer equipment, you should if you wish to include all those categories as that's what one would need if they want to play soccer.

You'll learn how to write for each of those categories, and in fact, you can name these sub topics as "Categories" in Wordpress as you'll learn later.

So you can have a "Jerseys" Category, "Soccer Boots" Category, etc... and use those categories to organize your main menu with.

You'll learn in the training how you'll write and these topics and how best to gain the best traffic.

When you upgrade, I will offer you a lot more details on how to take this so you can earn your first dollar by DEC!

:)

Let's go!

Hello, I would like some feedback. So I thank everyone who shared their thoughts regarding my previous niche idea. I decided against that niche and didn't think that I had anything else of interest which would be of help to anyone, however, I have come up with a couple of new ideas.
My daughter and I have an illness that I've managed to control for years with a healthy diet and natural supplements and I think this information could also help reduce the symptoms for others with the same disease. I am also knowledgeable about supplements and the healing effects they have on our bodies. Please share your thoughts on whether these would be good niche ideas. Thank you.

Hello drenie01!
You actually have no need to worry. Your experienced in life is rather the highest key target for the best type of niche. People terns to believe you more with regards to your exact life experience, if what you tell them makes the way out of that same problem you've encountered.

You will also find out that, as you help others out of that same problem, your passion to do so begins to generate even more because of the pain you have gone through and wish others to also come out of it as well.

So therefore, go on and create a niche that addressed solutions on that specific area of life, with the Aim to help as many as you could. And the turn out will make this a great source of revenue as a niche for you.

I wondering, why would a customer who is searching for a product decide to look at my affiliate page rather than go directly to the seller's website and purchase their product there? For instance if someone is looking for a specific toy and does a search online for that toy and finds my affiliate site but also see's an amazon listing for that toy, they most likely wouldn't go to my site. How would like this work for many other products that people search?
Reply
Hackerist Premium
Simple, there are several scenarios here. People are not always looking for products and they may not know about the existence of any product. Many times, they find something interesting on any blog (review post) while they are searching for something on google, they like the product (an affiliate product) because they are useful for them or they are a solution for any problem they are having. Another scenario, that is very common, is the one you mention, people know about any specific product and they know that they can buy it from Amazon, etc.

Choose a niche you will actually enjoy, don't make it either to broad or to narrow. Eg

So as a new site your niche should be very specific but your domain or site name would be something broad so it gives you room to expand.

Let's say I want my niche to be about pets. Pets are great because people have a passion for them and they also have problems that folks want to solve. So your site name may be something like ILovePets.com. It's broad enough that if people see it in the google search results they will trust it will be about a pet topic they may be searching for. But since our new site won't be able to compete with big sites like petsmart.com for broad general terms like dog leashes, or how to train your dog. We need to niche down our pet topic. So the initial content you would write about might be "anti-bark collars" which is a smaller specific niche topic in the overall pet niche.

Some content ideas might be:

1. Reviews on a specific anti-bark collar model 1, another review on anti-bark collar model b, etc
2. Best of ant-bark collar for small dogs, Best of anti-bark collar for under $50, etc.
3. Anti-bark collar model 1 vs anti-bark collar model 2, etc.

And you can literally do these articles for years to come because that niche has tons of products.

Then you may want to move into automatic pet feeders and follow the same content plan.

The other thing to keep in mind is your niche topic should have buyer intent. If this niche doesn't cause people to search google for solutions, products, etc that they're willing to pay for, it's not worth pursuing if you actually want to make money. So that's something else to keep in mind that people forget. You're in this to make money.

You can write some generic informational articles as well. But if you want to actually make money, you need to also write the type of articles I mentioned above and make it part of your content strategy. You can learn more about writing content that will get traffic and make you money here: So that's how you approach your niche selection. It should be very narrow that you're not competing with the bigger sites like amazon.com or a big brand which won't happen because you're new. But your domain/website name should be broad enough that allows you to cover other narrow topics within your niche like the examples I gave above.

I hope this makes sense. I discuss more niche concepts here: This should help you as well. Let me know.

So... this is what I have always wanted to do for years but always struggled to come up with a marketable niche in which I feel I could be of any help to anyone. Movement (primarily dance and martial arts, though I have dabbled diving and other similar pursuits) is probably my first and biggest love. I also dearly love (and miss!) my hometown of New Orleans and I also have a fascination with hotels (and aspire to get into hotel management one day). Another thing I could see myself speaking of at great lengths is cars -- American and European cars specifically (Lotuses are my favorite) or NASA Spaceflight.

I am looking for ideas as to how any of those topics could be narrowed down into a manageable (as in not too broad) niche and still be able to make money.

Thanks in advance if you can help!

Once you start using the keyword tools you will find some micro-niches within the larger ones.

Just a thought, Google has some pretty good ads these days as far as appearance goes. They can blend them right into your content.

With the topics, your talking about the keywords could be fairly well paying?

I was making between $50 & $100 dollars per day from Google Adsense and that was on a weight loss website I had back in 2012

My friend, I have owned my own companies, and I have had dozens of websites online and I have made thousands of dollars online already. I started here in 2017, but I lost someone close to me and had some health troubles and I didn't upgrade to premium until July of 2019.

I am really sorry that I didn't get to upgrade sooner, what a significant difference between the starter membership and the premium.

If you have some computer experience already, meaning you know your way around your computer pretty well? You don't want to be working at McDonald's drive-thru 5 years from now do you?

You upgrade when your ready and can afford it, but as far as this place looking legitimate to you, these guys have been in business for 15 years now, they have 1.4 million members, and they are in 193 countries. They wouldn't miss you if you left but if they get to know you once you upgrade they will do everything they can to help you succeed.

When you have a problem or just a question someone will help you almost instantly. I have been all over this internet in the last 10 years looking for some place like this. I tried to find fault with this site and I could not find anything wrong here.

They have a perfect BBB or Better Business Bureau listing. Do you know how hard that is to do online? It's hard because people will bad mouth you over nothing?

This is a top shelf place! A true class act. This is a couple sites I just started working on about a month a go. I was working so I was torn between the two but I just stopped working so I can do this full time. https://whatsthebuzzabout.net https://nichedoctor.org

I am determined to do this, and if I can't do it here I will never do it. They have everything you need to build your business here! EVERYTHING!!

If you stay and upgrade you will see. You have nothing to lose because if you join and you don't like it you cancel your membership and that's it

Good Luck,

Health and wellness is very broad, I encourage you to narrow it down to something very specific to start out with. Once your site is established you may want to broaden the topics.
If you think about health and wellness, what appeals to you, or is most relevant to you? It could be paediatric health? A specific ailment - I believe that tinnitus is a very profitable niche for example.
Hope this helps you.

Now, I am at WA...Woo Hoo! I am on Lesson 4, have chosen my niche, and now starting the "build your website" stage. My questions are 1- Can and should I use the domain I mentioned?
2- Since I created a website with another program,

3- (My Favorite) Should I "forget" this domain,

Hi - I am not sure what you are trying to do. What do you mean by "classes"?

What you should be doing is writing informational content on the niche you have chosen. For example, if your niche was the keto diet, you could have articles on what can you eat on a keto diet, is the keto diet safe, how much can you eat on the keto diet etc.

Once you have added lots of content, you can then apply to affiliate programs. They will inspect your website to see if it is suitable.

Once you have been approved, you will choose products which you wish to promote, write a review of them, and the affiliate program will provide you with the link to that product, so you can earn a commission when a customer buys it.

I suggest you carry on with the training, and not try and get ahead of yourself.

Thanks so much for the clarity Diane! Can I copy other peoples' articles I find online for my content, along with submitting some of my own?
By 'classes' I was just giving you an example of what one of the widgets would go to on the affiliate website to find instructors (yoga is my niche). Sorry for the confusion. I am sure you are right, I'm getting ahead of myself.

Hi - no, you cannot copy anything from other websites, not even a few paragraphs. Everything has to be original and in your own words.

now i really feel lost, I did not know i needed to become the expert in the field. Guess I have a lot to learn and do

Not necessarily an expert, but you need to have some interest and experience in your niche. You can look at other people's posts for inspiration and ideas, just don't copy them word for word.

May I ask you how long it took for you to set up your website with enough quality content before you started getting affiliates?

I am not a typical example, because I am a professional writer, and therefore find it quick and easy to create content.

If you are thinking of using Amazon as an affiliate program, then actually, they don't need to see so many posts, maybe just 2 or 3. However, you do have to make 3 sales within 180 days, which isn't easy.

Other affiliate programs will expect to see more, maybe 10 or 20 posts before they approve you.

This is a long term commitment, and you shouldn't be in a rush to add affiliate links. At this stage, for the first month, concentrate on adding as many posts as you can and continue with the training. For example, level 2 covers adding images, writing reviews, getting an email address etc and level 3 is all about affiliates.

Well my first stuck point is niche, let me be very honest with you. I am not really good with any specific topic as I do many things.

I have been working as SEO assistant during 2008 to 2010 with one of friend, I did not had any dedicated site or clients, but after 2010 the slow down begun and my friend stopped the services and he is just happy with one client which he handles and going on. But I don't have any client as of now and I really don't have enough knowledge of present SEO. So no chance to get to SEO Niche.

I then tried to be a consultant and offered website design services where I use to get some design projects from one my existing client and I use to get the design done by outsourcer and get my share but again this is been not running well, yet here I don't have anything to share my knowledge.

Other than this I have passion on Yoga and Ayurveda but I am not well enough to share my knowledge.

So my question is how do I choose my niche.?

Can I take up a general niche which is good enough and has good demand and then try to write content based on research?

Can I use content writer to write on specific topic and then post based on a profitable niche for ex [weight loss, diet, make money, affiliate marketing, online learning etc.,]

Please help to choose the niche...

Hello!
I'm still a starter and I just had finished those basic training. I really enjoy the whole process and the generous community members! As the result, I'm recently considering to upgrade as a premium member.

I really like to know that I will have the discount only for the first month? After that, I need to pay for premium every month? What aspects will you suggest me to take into consideration before join the premium program?

Hi - yes, the discount rate of $19 only applies to the first month. From then on, it is an automatic, recurring payment of $49 per month. It is cheaper to pay for 6 months or a year, but has to be paid upfront in one lump sum, and there are no refunds.

Be aware, that if you cancel your membership once you have upgraded, you can't go back to being a free starter and would lose all access to this platform.

I find it hard to find a niche that would bring in the money that is why I created two websites on wordpress. I thought maybe it might work anyway here they are and would like for members to comment on them

How do I turn the letters in my posts and pages white? I keep trying to customize my background to something I like, but every image I find makes the words.... Invisible for lack of a better word. Of course every background I use is dark, because those are the ones I like best for this particular niche. So ya, how do I turn the letters white? Thank you

Hi - you can see if there is an option to do this, by going to Appearance, Customize, Colors. Not every theme will allow this.

By the way, light text on a dark background is not recommended. It is difficult to read, leading to poor user experience, and visitors may not wish to spend much time on your site.

If your theme has a Theme Options you can do this easy enough.

From Appearances then Themes.
When you hover over your theme the word Theme Details appears.
Click on it and then click on Theme Options and then colors.

The easy way is to use the colour pallet in the page/post tool bar. Select white and start typing

So now I'm a little confused by the last video. Kyle talked about a skill that he actually has to teach people. Can my website be of something/product that already exist. Can I promote something better than the last company like collagen powder?Amazons #1 seller, Without copy writing or is this not that kind of websites i can build here?
Reply

I have no idea what that teaching thing is your talking about, he hasn't taught me anything yet, but I haven't asked to either?

I don't know what that powder is either, but if Amazon sells it, and you are signed up as an Amazon affiliate you can sell it on your site as well.

If it's a #1 seller than they are probably selling millions of them whatever it is? :-)

The only way that your website could be about something that does not already exist is if you are going to make something yourself, right?

If you do that, then your on the wrong training site because affiliates sell other people's products! Once you create a product then you are a vendor, which is what Kyle is really, not an affiliate. Oh, he may still put up a site here and there I don't know. He doesn't need to because they are killing it right here!

Everyone that promotes Wealthy affiliate, we are all affiliate's for Kyle and Carson.

I hope that clears things up a little for you Ryan?

Take care buddy, see you at the top! Need any more help I am usually around, but I am packing it in for the night. I have been online since early this morning.

It's all good Ryan, and it never hurts to cover your ass buddy! So never be afraid to ask questions.

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask! You have a good head on your shoulders.

Try not to overthink things, It will slow you down. You won't get everything right the first time or maybe the 5th time. But you will learn something from all of those times so don't sweat the small stuff.

Talk with you tomorrow,
David
