How Will YOU Make Money Online?

Great question!

The reality is that there are many ways to make money online! The problem is that people often get distracted by the "latest and greatest" product or service and they are never able to build a successful (and revenue generating) business as a result.

Today I am going to run you through one of the most fundamental, yet powerful processes of generating revenue online.

It is a proven process, it is one that we use, and one that 100,000's of other Wealthy Affiliate members use. It is also the ultimate "making money" process that worked 5 years ago and it is going to work 5 years from now (and beyond). It is a process that will reveal as much opportunity in the massive online world as you are willing to work for!

It is called Affiliate Marketing.

But, just one thing before you get into the MONEY "stuff"...

The making money part of your business won't happen quite yet.

Before you earn money, you are going to first be focusing on creating your niche website (which will take place in the next two lessons) and are working to get traffic to your website. Without a website, without content, and without traffic, the MONEY part simply doesn't happen.

So don't look at this like a race. You will reach success and a great deal of it, but before you build your own personal SKYSCRAPER of a business, you must first have a solid FOUNDATION to build it on. That is going to be our first goal within the Getting Started training. Cool?

Alright, let's continue on! :)

Below is a video walk-through of today's lesson and the process of "How to Make Money Online - The Process Explained". Just click the PLAY button to watch it!

In the coming days are going to be working through this process and by the end of this Level 1 training alone, you are going to have an awesome foundation in place that will lead you to much greater success.

Task #1: Understand the Make Money Process

There are MANY different ways that you can earn money online and many different ways in which you can build an entire business. The most lucrative and the one that we have been teaching here at Wealthy Affiliate for the past 14 years is Affiliate Marketing.

Below is a diagram outlining the process of making money through affiliate marketing.

There are now over 4 BILLION people online as of 2019 (YOUR audience) and these people are going to search engines, social media, or visiting websites for help all the time.

These people are looking for information, solutions to problems and to buy stuff.

That is where you are going to come in with your website and help these "audiences" by offering them information about what they are looking for. You will be "helping" these people, recommending products/services they can benefit from, and you earn affiliate commissions ($$) as a result.

There are over 550 MILLION products/services that you can promote as an affiliate marketer. The opportunity is incredible and it is only growing!

By Lesson 4 of this course you are going to have your very own "niche" website in place that you will use to connect with your chosen audience and make money with. You will have your very own slice of the internet opportunity.

Task #2: Create (Write Down) Your Financial Goals

You want to earn revenue right? That is great! In order to earn anything however, you need to have some goals in place.

In this task we want you to join in on a "money goals" discussion here at Wealthy Affiliate. You are going to be telling us what your goals are and going forward, we are going to be helping you achieve these very goals!

QUESTION #1: How much money would you be happy earning?

QUESTION #2: How much would you be ecstatic (ie, really excited) earning?

QUESTION #3: And how much TIME are you willing to invest to achieve these goals?

PLEASE make 100% sure that you do not skip this step and you revisit this post regularly when you are in need of some motivation. I can absolutely assure you that if you work hard at this and you are persistent towards these goals, you will achieve them. But ultimately it is UP TO YOU!

JOIN DI$CU$ION: What Are Your "Money" Goals?

In addition to this, it would be wonderful if you commented on someone else's goals they have posted within this thread. Aim to comment on at least TWO people's goals. You likely can network with many other "like minded" people here at Wealthy Affiliate and this is a good way to get your networking efforts rolling. We are a friendly bunch here at WA!

If you have any questions about any aspect of the make money process, feel free to leave them in the comments below.

Awesome, off to the next lesson now where you will be "choosing your niche"!

The “niche” I was a professional Photographer for 40 years so my natural “niche” would be photography however it is very broad. So should I pick one segment like lighting of different types of photography or landscape or cameras/equipment to build with. Or Would a site like Photo Sense that would list and talk about all the different was to earn money be a good “niche”?

hey hi Gene -- sounds good to me!

With your extensive background in photography and likely with so many choice niche(s) to select from --- suggest whichever you decide to work on first as your first niche, ensure that it is one that you are truly interested in enough to want to write about / blog on in-depth over an extensive period of time to scale your new on-line biz to Success!

Perhaps answering a phrase like:

"I want to help people with ........................... by offering suitable solutions that will make them happy!"
... (and as your eventual satisfied repeat customers over the longer-term, hopefully!)

All the very best to you, cheerio ... :)

Keishalina9, thanks for your take on the subject, I understand and that is good advice to take one of the many photography niches and make that my first site build it with lots of content get followers add products to sell and then build the next niche.

Thanks again for your help.

Hello everyone!
I'd like to receive suggestions from the vastly experienced community here regarding the selection of niche.

1) The niche which I have in mind is kinda broad - running. I neither have a considerable amount of experience with it nor lot of related knowledge but I'm certainly interested in it. The niche is already heavily saturated. So should I choose a narrow segment within running or just start with running as a whole?

2) Is it advisable to pursue both running and the affiliate bootcamp simultaneously?

Thank you!

hey hi Harshith & welcome to Wealthy Affiliate Premium!

Running is a pretty broad niche and as you've just mentioned 'already heavily saturated.' ...Suggest if you love this topic and feel you can write on it / blog about it in-depth over an extensive period of time to scale your biz..... yes, need to focus and narrow it something like: running shoes, running tees, running sweatbands, or a 'narrow segment within running' as you've said ...

And if this is your very first endeavour in building a website with WordPress -- it is recommended you work and build your first niche site and once it's scaled with revenue to your satisfaction, then do the next ....

All the best to you for every success, cheerio ... :)

First of all, what does a saturated niche mean and how do you know whether it is or not. To start choose a narrow aspect such as Winter running shoes, or running in Snow or any aspect. Write until you have finished that aspect and then another This web site creation is easier if its something you are really interested in

Thanks a lot! But I feel like when choosing a narrower segment, I won't be able to write for an extended period of time. I'm sticking to running for now and I'll figure out things eventually.

Hello again everyone!

I just finished Lesson 3, choosing my niche and thank god for these videos. So simple and gets me so motivated!

There are three things that I would like to try.

1. Writing\Mental health

This niche would be focused on people with mental health illnesses and perhaps some knowledge for those who want to be more informed. My main thing would be anxiety and depression. For the affiliate marketing side, there are items like weighted blankets that assist people who are anxious, stress balls (but really sturdy ones, and cheaper online therapy sessions.) Just to name a few.

Thoughts on that?

2. This one I am super excited about because it's me.

I love shirts which have pictures of things like gaming characters, anime characters. superheroes, popular television shows.

Pictures of these kinds of things on a variety of objects, I just spaz out over.

I also love toys, I'm 33-years old and I still love toys, comics and cartoons. You can get some fantastic figurines or models like the Back to the Future car online. I want it so badly!

Gaming, finding cheaper games second hand or new for people to buy and finding game figurines or movie figurines at a reasonable price.

Thoughts on that?

3. Photography

I am still new to the world of photography. I have been doing it for about a year now. I don't have current equipment. I use two cameras. A Canon Coolpix L330 and my Samsung J6. The photo's I have taken with these have been allowed on various stock photo sites so I can't be that bad.

I'm not sure exactly what I want to do with this? I would like to be able to try out lenses on a smartphone and recommend the ones that legitly work at a reasonable price, sell my photo's on this site as well and perhaps market the equipment I am using and want to use in future.

Thoughts on that?

Thank you again for reading my essay! :-)
Much love to you all!

I think mental health is a good one you just have to narrow it down a little bit. There are many mental health issues out there. Photography is a good one to

Thanks for the comment, Jen. I appreciate it. I'm not sure how to narrow mental health down more, to be honest. I'll have to think about that a bit more I guess. So, no thoughts on the gaming\geek one? I know that it is a tough market to crack but I am into it.

Hi - all three are excellent choices. Just be aware that health and wellness is one of the top three niches and therefore the most competitive.

Gaming and geeky stuff will be lots of fun. Just watch that any images you use have to be copyright-free, which can be difficult to find with well-known characters.

Thanks Diane. Yeah, I know that the copy-right thing could be a problem, however, I see places that sell these things legitly like Mantality, wish etc. so I'm hoping it will be ok

Hi Ryan,

Sounds to me that you are pretty widespread in the diversity of your niches I would suggest that you sit down and figure out which you are most interested in and grow with it.

You can always move on to the other niches later if you find time to do so because most affiliate marketers don't stick to just one niche (unless it becomes an obsession :-D).

For most, the more streams of income you have, the better you can adapt to market changes and other aspects of the business model as they happen and occur.

Just from the way you wrote your question, I would think your biggest passion in number two (you wrote double the material on the niche than the other two combined) that tells me where your passion is.

Try to narrow that niche down as much as possible to start off with. Remember, you can always expand out, if you decide to. But it is hard to decrease the focus of a niche after the start of the website

Once you pick a domain name on a private URL and purchase it you can not change it. If you decide later you don't like it, then you have to buy a different one if you want to change it. However, on the subdomains, it is completely different.

Since a starter member is offered two subdomains; you can just simply delete one name and create another subdomain name for free - 2 free with a starter membership (but remember free websites only last for 6 months if you remain a starter member.

But if you can have them forever if you go premium, and you can also convert them to a private domain once you go premium (if you decide to go that route) by a simple click of a button!

I hope this helps you out some,
Calvin

Wow, Calvin,

Thank you so much for the in-depth post!

I have been thinking about it and I always come back to what I felt when I wrote down option 2 and I think I should go that route. I felt more energized about this option.

I do still want to do the mental health one as well however, I feel should start with this one first.

I think I am going to narrow it down to one item then. I love shirts with characters however I love figurines as well and I think I will start there.

Start off with just finding great figurines and writing about them or writing about the figurines I still have.

Ryan,

To help you narrow it down some you could go into:

1. Different company's figurines like: DC, Marvel, or Upper Deck.
2. Different gaming systems figurines like: Z-man games, Score, or GMT Games.
3. Different styles of games like: card, computer, board, or role-playing.

Even though this niche can be very competitive if you narrow it down enough (which will also leave plenty of growth space if needed later on) it will ease the competition that you will be up against.

And if you ever need any help I will be more than willing to give you some assistance ==> Just shout me a PM!

Hi there,

Just before I continue I would like to know, from your side,

I am in the tourism industry, and I want to make money, But the question is how will out make money if I don't have any product to sell?

I can make I really nice website on tourism info in Namibia but what is there to sell then?

Maybe you could give me a wider spectrum / idea on how I could sell tourism?

Kind regards,
Kerneels

Or maybe I could start by selling TOURS???? I am new to this so please help me out*

I am sure you can find affiliate programs with travel agency or sites that help people either plan out their trips or make it cost efficient for them. Tourism is a big industry, you will find a lot of opportunity to sell deals for travel deals and such. Hope this helps create some ideas.

Good Luck!

Hello Kerneels, Welcome to WA, You dont have to have any product of your own. With that being said, There are thousands + products that you can sell on your website through other companies, And I'm sure some of them or maybe hundreds of them have to do with tourism. What I like you to do is watch the training videos, and I promise you wont be disappointed. Just so you know I been here less than a month I have my website up and on the 4th page of google. You will love it.

I started my website and have added my home page, privacy policy, about me and a few other pages. I picked a style website that has very light and small print. I didn't realize it when I picked it. I have since went through all the posts and pages and made them bold print to darken them. They do look better but I can't seem to make the home page in bold print which so far has my about me page. How can I do this or can't I? Is there a better way to make the print darker?

You may just want to try another theme.

I know exactly what you mean! That light grey text really ticks me off! You can choose another theme or learn how to go into the theme CSS and change the font color. It's actually easier than trying to change the font color on every page and post. You just need to be careful when messing with CSS. It goes into a much deeper rabbit hole when you start learning about child themes.

Don't get me started! I might have you destroying your site. I know just enough to be dangerous.

You won't mess up your website by changing themes. Just preview them until you find the one you want.

Hi Janet,

Most themes have within the customize tab on the left sidebar menu a place where you can change the font size and color.

If you let me know what theme you are using I can show you (through screenshots) how to change it; that is if it can be changed, some themes don't give you the option to change much.

Or you can just change themes seems how you are a premium member!

Good luck - either way,
