How Will YOU Earn Money?

There are many ways to make money online! The problem is that people often get distracted by the "latest and greatest" product or service and they are never able to build a successful (and revenue generating) business.

Today we are going to run you through one of the most fundamental, yet the most powerful processes of generating revenue online.

It is a proven process, it is one that we use, and one that 100,000's of other Wealthy Affiliate members use. It is also the ultimate "making money" process that worked 5 years ago and it is going to work 5 years from now. It is a process that will reveal as much opportunity in the massive online world as you are willing to work for!

Just one thing before you get into the MONEY "stuff"...

The making money part of your business won't happen quite yet.

Before you earn money, you are going to first be focusing on creating your niche website (which will take place in the next two lessons) and are working to get traffic to your website. Without a website, without content, and without traffic, the MONEY part simply doesn't happen.

So don't look at this like a race. You will reach success and a great deal of it, but before you build your own personal SKYSCRAPER of a business, you must first have a solid FOUNDATION to build it on. That is going to be our first goal within the Getting Started training. Cool?

Alright, let's continue on! :)

Below is a video walk-through of today's lesson and the process of "How to Make Money Online". Just click the PLAY button to watch it!

DISCUSS THIS VIDEO HERE: How to Make Money Online - The Process Explained

Over the coming days you are going to be working through this process and by the end of this Level 1 training alone, you are going to have an awesome foundation in place that will lead you to much greater success.

Task #1: Understand the Make Money Process

There are MANY different ways that you can earn money online and many different ways in which you can build an entire business. In the coming lessons we are going to be walking you through the following process (and the video above explains it).

There are 3.75 BILLION people online as of 2018 (YOUR audience) and these people are searching for things all the time.

They are looking for information, solutions to problems and to buy stuff. That is where you are going to come in with your website and help these "audiences" by offering them information about what they are looking for. You will be "helping" these people and earning revenue in the process.

By Lesson 4 of this course you are going to have your very own "niche" website in place that you will use to connect with your chosen audience. You will have your very own piece of the internet and a platform to connect anyone that you want who browses the Internet.

Task #2: Create (Write Down) Your Financial Goals

You want to earn revenue right? That is great! In order to earn anything however, you need to have some goals in place.

In this task we want you to join in on a "money goals" discussion here at Wealthy Affiliate. You are going to be telling us what your goals are and going forward, we are going to be helping you achieve these very goals!

QUESTION #1: How much money would you be happy earning?

QUESTION #2: How much would you be ecstatic earning?

QUESTION #3: And how much TIME are you willing to invest to achieve these goals?

PLEASE make 100% sure that you do not skip this step and you revisit this post regularly when you are in need of some motivation. I can absolutely assure you that if you work hard at this and you are persistent towards these goals, you will achieve them. But ultimately it is UP TO YOU!

Join Discussion: What Are Your "money" Goals?

In addition to this, it would be wonderful if you commented on someone else's goals they have posted within this thread. Aim to comment on at least TWO people's goals. You likely can network with many other "like minded" people here at Wealthy Affiliate and this is a good way to get your networking efforts rolling. We are a friendly bunch here at WA!

Awesome, off to the next lesson now where you will be "choosing your niche"!

I think Jaxxy should be emphasized before a person chooses a niche, and sets up the website. Of course, sites can always be set up later if you get ideas in Jaxxy. I got some more keyword ideas here; but the site can also tell you if your niche has lots of competition, and if it will yield any searches.
Jaxxy is important before choosing a niche!

Hello Jack,

The <F5> key usually refreshes a Web page. Alternatively, right-clicking a non-text and non-image part of the page brings up a menu with a "reload" or "refresh" type of selection. Clicking that will also refresh the page.

Hey ezelldel,
May I offer a suggestion? Try to decide which niche you feel most passionate about and have some knowledge in. This will help when it comes to writing your content.
It may not be the most popular one according to Jaxxy, but if you don't feel something for your niche, I think it is more difficult to write content. Just another suggestion! :)
Wishing you a wonderful journey,

I too am at odds about which niche to pursue. Your advice to check Jaxxy and see what customers are asking on the popular sites as well as what the competition for the niche looks like is an excellent idea.

I'll try this to narrow my Niche choices as well,
Thank You!

Silly question, but why do we want to avoid grammatically incorrect keywords if people search them? I definitely type grammatically incorrect phrases into google all the time, like, "Coffee mug blue."

Many people instinctively use this "grammar of searching," placing a descriptor after their noun phrase. If "coffee mug blue" is a popular search term, why do I want to cast it aside for the more competitive "blue coffee mug"? Can anyone explain?

Thank you in advance!
Reply
Robert-A Premium
Good grammar and spelling are related to PageRank. PageRank.

Updated every few months, is a link analysis algorithm named after one of the Google founders (Larry Page) which helps Google to decide how much ranking “weight” is given to each individual page on the Web.

Simply put, in general, the higher the PageRank of your main domain and individual pages the greater your chance of securing high rankings for competitive niche keywords.

Given that Google’s own detailed analysis has found a correlation between correct grammar and spelling and the PageRank rating given, it would seem fairly certain that you should make efforts to ensure your site’s content possesses these qualities.

My question is, when I access site content it brings up the content of my old site instead of the new one. I can not write new content for my new site. How do I do this?

Hello Jennifer;
You would have to change the name at the beginning of the content so you could bring up the new one. Later on after you copy the content, then change it back before publishing. Hope this helps.

This definitely helped me understand niche more. However, it is making me think that my website I want to make is more of a blog than a niche site. I guess my idea seems more vague than a niche site is how I am feeling anyway.

Being that I am a massage therapist, I tend to prefer more natural healing methods and I would like my website to not only be for blog/niche, but also a business website.

Whole-istically You is what i want it to be named. I want to focus on different ways to make people feel healthy mentally, physically, emotionally- I want to help them feel Whole.

So my articles would be anything from healthy recipes/ways to make things healthy that typically aren't, massage techniques that everyone can learn for digestive health or a stiff neck, making homemade scrubs, lotions, soaps and so on.

Is it still okay to make a site like this or should i narrow the scope of it and focus on individual things?
Reply
James1-4 Premium
Hi Crystal,

That's a lot! I think it can work if your niche is focused. What can you become an expert about? What affiliate products / services will you promote? What do you mean that you want it to be a "business website"?

Our blogs are niches. But they are also businesses of their own. We blog about our niche topic. Teaching and explaining techniques are what add value to our site. Although teaching people how to make products for themselves will not put money in your pocket, promoting materials that they will use to create their own products can. You will need to use affiliate sources that sell those materials as their products.

or if i choose home decoration that can contain many categories not only one . Can I go for that niche?

Home decorations will involve all aspects of your home and garden. It can be defined as just soft furnishings, or anything visual which decorates the home. It may just be floral both real or silk. The possibilities are endless.

However I would start with one aspect decorating the kitchen in orange for instance. Equally I would choose an aspect of woman's health such as the teenagers, premenopausal or postmenopausal

Just watched the " Choosing a Direction video". Very clear and precise instructions. I did get confused as to the Entrepreneur certification vs Bootcamp training comment stating that I should do one or the other and not both. They seem different so why not do both? And as a premium member which is my direction? Thanks

Hello Betsy;
If you use the Bootcamp to start, you are encouraged to write about WA as your niche. If you use the Entrepreneur Certification you would pick a niche of your own to start, a hobby or a very special interest of yours to write about. Wishing you all the best.

When first starting out, it is best to build one website, create quality content and establish credibility before working on another site. It is completely up to you which one you would like to start with. If you already have your niche in mind, then you can go with the OEC Training. If you'd rather promote WA, then you will want to choose Bootcamp.
After your first website has become established and productive, you can certainly add another one, but that will be much later.

When I go to log in from my page I have to manually put in the password. The password is a complex combination of numbers and letters that I have to put in manually to be able to log in. Is that how it's supposed to be? If so, is there a way I can change to an easier password? Thanks a bunch:)

I don't get something. If I perform a keyword search NOW, and it looks good in qsr, avg, traffic, etc. and I use it NOW, what happens LATER on when it gets more popular?
I mean, if everything looks right by now, and it successfully leads a lot of traffic. Later on, the keyword I used becomes competitive and it ranks higher in QSR. Does this mean I'll have less traffic by then, in the future? What should I do by then?
Hope this makes sense :)
Reply
feigner Premium
keyword competition will change over time - but so will your site.
if you rank for something now and in the future there is more competition then , as long as google thinks your content is still relevant , you will still rank due to age and authority.
this is the reason you need to build out your site and show your visitors - and google - that you are an authority on whatever is your niche.
you will go back and rewrite content as things happen in the future, but at the start - just concentrate on creating high quality relevant content for your niche.
good luck

Because of my limited vision (Macular Degeneration) it is very difficult to follow along on the training videos. The cursor is so small and moves so quickly, it's difficult for me to follow.

Most videos I must watch four or five times to be certain I've understood all the material. Which brings me to the questions for which I need help.

In Jaxxy, when you find a key word you want to save and place in your key word list(s), how do you go about doing that?

Later, how do you access those lists?

Thanking you in advance!

I know you've accessed the Jaaxy research tool since you are talking about keywords. Click on the research tab, then click on the tab keyword list. This is where all your saved keywords or ones you want to save will be for future reference.

Hi Steve,

I'm very sorry about your Macular Degeneration. I recommend pressing the <F11> key on your keyboard to enlarge videos or (best) clicking the small (usually) square "fullscreen" or arrow image at the bottom right of most videos to make the videos fullscreen.

In Jaaxy, click the checkbox in front of the keywords you wish to keep, then click the [ Save to List ] button to the right of the Keyword heading. When the "Save Keyword List" window pops up, if you do not already have a saved list to save the newly selected keywords to, leave the grayed [ New List ] button selected and enter a name for your new list in the textbox under the words "Enter a name for your new List :".

Once you already have a list that you wish to save your new selections to, click the [ Existing List ] button in the "Save Keyword List" popup window and select a saved list from the dropdown list.

To retrieve them, click the "Saved Lists" link, third from the left, in the second row of links from the top of the page.

I wish you success here at Wealthy Affiliate, Steve,

James

James beat me to it (had to stop for breakfast). But here is some additional information.

Steps
1. Open Jaaxy Dashboard.
2. Go to Saved Lists.
3. Then go to Export
4. Click on CSV
5. Click on All Data
6. Make sure Open With has a dot in it or you can save it to Excel too (next one down)
7. Brings up the Excel Page,
8. Showing you the list. You can then save it.

The advantage with this is it's easy increase the font size so you can see it better.

James, sorry to bother you again. I followed your directions but something went wrong. Let me be sure l didn't make an error.

I believe you told me that when I find a key word I want to save, to click in the little box in front of (to the left of) the key word.

Then if my memory serves me correctly, a pop up box appears just to the right of he key word, and I'm to fill in the requested data. I basically remember what goes in the pop up box.

However; when I clicked in the small box in front of the key word...nothing happened???

Did I miss something or follow you directions incorrectly?

Gosh! after I overcame my biggest worries, my website name, which took me a while to come up with, I found out that it's already used :(

Although it seems that there's only one person/website is using it, I was hugely disappointed that I thought I invented the name:)
The name is "Travİtechture" which combines travel & architecture. and I'm planning on posting some articles that "travel" into the world of architecture through time and location.
I'm also foreseeing that I can use the base "techure" to link it to other life subjects, such as "Healthİtechture", " Foodİtechture", etc. to create a series of blogs that house the believe of grounding everything in daily life to architecture, which reflects my philosophy about architecture.

So, what do I do now? do I change the name I started with (travitecture) completely? Should I change the wording? Can I actually do that by now (as a starter)? Or should I structure a different website that hosts different blogs that deals with different matters (travel, health, food, etc.)?

Thanks

Choose whatever you can write a lot about and make videos for.

If you have a hard time thinking up some content ideas you're going to struggle. One idea you can try, is to visit amazon.com...

There are plenty of products there. Browse through them. Write any down (plus their niche) that interest you.

Generate a fairly long list and you'll discover the most interesting niche to you.

Though I would focus your niche mostly on Wood Crafting, I do feel that basing your website on the DIY genre will help you to include another layer of knowledge in wood working.

I have two inquiries...

1. The first thing comes to mind, or it seems obvious, is only affiliating websites/brands that offer online purchases can offer commissions to affiliates. So, if I were to be an expert of anything that criticizes a purchased commodity, at the end I can make comparisons and promote some suggestions, and then make commissions out of it. Right?
What about other fields that do not have anything to be purchased, such as travel consulting, design/arts discussions, history/theory critical thinking, etc.?
In other words, if I was a specialist in some of the above (or it was just my hobby), how can I make commissions out of these "niches"?

2. I feel overwhelmed when it comes to create my own niche (aka "MY" website). I have too many things that I think of when I brainstorm it, but also nothing that I have a deep experience that I can really help/guide other people with. So, is there a way that, as a starter, I can be just a link, a bridge, a bill board to other people that can also lead traffic? I don't know if that's possible/profitable.
Reply
feigner Premium
almost anything you can think of has something to sell - even if it a book on how to think critically. then you become creative and ask what else you need to supplement this - so a healthy knowledge of... or just being healthy will help the brain think- so there is another angle.

at the start pick something you treally feel comfortable with as you will have a steep learning curve with the business model.
if you can produce about 20 different articles on one subject then go for it, list the headings out ( initial titles) and try to group them together into topics.
this would be enough to start on a site and learn this business model - you may find half way through that you want to change to a different topic- don't go all the way through with the first if you can and then do the second.

if there is something that you want to learn then use that and realise that you will be one step ahead of the people you are teaching, but to do this as well as learn the business model is a lot.

is it worth it - what price do you put on financial freedom and time freedom?
what would you do if you only had to work a few hours a day or a week, how would your life change?

good luck
phil

The first thing you need to do is decide on a Niche - I see that you have a lot on your mind however you need to pick one and it needs to be one that you have a lot of knowledge about and one that you are comfortable writing about and can write plenty of content. You can set up one website and get that right and when that one is operating to your satisfaction then you can start a second, third and fourth as most of us do. The great thing is that the first month of premium is only $19 so you can get a complete feel for everything available to you at a price everyone can afford.

And yes you can get commissions for referring others here even with your start account. To get commissions consistently, though, you'd need to build traffic and this comes from creating quality content, so the rest of the training is very important.

We know that landing page plays important role in conversion.

- If I already have created a website, do I need to create a separate landing page or just send link to the related web page?
- If within the website I have more than one affiliate products, does it mean I will create more than one landing pages too, which is one for each affiliate product?
- If I need those landing pages, does it means they require more than one domain names and different hosting for each domain name?

Hi David,

1) A landing page can be literally ANY piece of content on your site or someone else's site. Whether you link internally to your own landing page (review, email capture page, pre-sell page etc) or someone else's landing page (like a vendors page) depends on how you have your funnel setup. There's a lot more I could say here but to be honest the best thing to do is just follow the training, and how Kyle is showing you to create your pages and link to other pages.

2) Again this depends on your funnel. But many people do create a review or pre-sell page for each product they promote. So they will link to this from some other piece of content on their site or within their site somewhere. You could also create a comparison article, where you promote several products within the one article.

3) No. If you want to create your own landing pages to promote specific products, those pages would be on your own site, on that same domain. You would not use another domain or site unless you had a very specific reason for doing so, in most cases the landing page will be on your site.

Hope this helps!

A question about finding a niche..

I have a bit of a dilemma right now when it comes to choosing one. My main 2 choices are Photography and Psychology, they both seem fine but I have a problem digging deeper as the niches itself are too big..

Not trying to find a specific solution, but perhaps how you managed to find it?

It could also be possible that I need to have some rest right now and I'm not in my creative mood.. lol

Thanks for the time,

Hello, which one (out of the 2) you feel more passionate about seeing yourself helping your audience? With your Niche, it's important to remember that you want to offer information to assist others. Good idea to narrow it down a bit...maybe try searching for both niches in Google for ideas on narrowing these down. I did take a quick look myself at the photography niche to see what came up by using the "Alphabet soup" method, adding a letter after Photography such as an "A" and seeing what suggestions come up, and then on to the next letters, b, c, etc.

One interesting idea to check out is Photography careers...this one came up with quite a few suggestions on narrowing down the niche...wedding photography, portrait photography, still life photography, nature photography, underwater photography, advertising photography, fashion or glamor photography, etc....anyways, there's a ton of different ones!

Hope that might help you find what you're looking for...I'm sure the Psychology niche has tons too!

Best wishes :) ~Sherry

I had this same problem when deciding on my niche. I went with what I felt most comfortable writing about and what I felt I could help my target audience with more. Psychology as a whole is a very broad niche. However something like "anxiety" or "depression" are more narrow yet still have lots of information that can be shared.

Photography is broad. What type of photography? "Weddings" "nature" "black and white" ...What type of cameras are used within that type of photography?

It was very much a gut decision in the end for me.

Hope this helps a bit!

Yeah, I spend alot of time thinking about it and it just wouldn't come up.. But I did something that helped me alot! So I wrote down everything I liked and I mean everything. that alone gave me plenty of ideas! After a bit of digging deeper in each niche I saw ideas to combine the 2 together in something which I can keep learning from in future experiences.

I always wanted to start jogging again, used to be my passion in the past. I could give people info about the mental aspect of it and at the same time make photos of it. I think jogging itself isn't too broad?

Oh well, one step at a time I guess hh!

Thank you all very much!! really appreciate it!! :))

First, as far as the EWWW Image Optimizer no you do not have to do that, but if you want to you can; it is completely up to you.

As far as the menu not looking the same have you created the two documents that you are mentioning, if not you need to create them in site content, then publish them, and then you should see them in the left hand side of menu's window under the post and page tabs.

if you need further assistance just shot me a PM and I will be glad to help you with this.

Help this hoped,

Like you can see on my profile I'm different! I joined WA to find an alternative job that fits better to me.
I thought about creating a blog/website about people having Asperger (autistic spectrum) and their day to day problem in society, at work or in their relationship. If good ranked with appropriate keywords it could generate a good traffic.
But here I'm stuck, I don't know what kind of affiliate programs to add!?
Of course everybody will tell me to promote WA (sure of course) but I would love to do more. For example I hate shopping (to much people, noises, smells .....) it's overwhelming. Cloth-shopping to I avoid too (I'm not patient with choosing, trying on, doesn't fit or bc of how I process things I don't like, so frustration pure).
I would have a lot more examples but all leading me MAIN niches that are probably all "overbooked" or not specific enough.

Would love to know what you all think about it.

Many thanks :-)

I struggled for a few days at finding my own niche. But then, I thought about things that I either really like to do or that I wanted to do. I am really good at home decoration so I choose that direction. I then narrowed it down to a specific item within home decor and ran with that. I have had to take a week or so off due to illness so I am not all the way through my training and my website has not by any means been perfected. Which leads me back to your question. You want to blog about Asperger,s and I think that is great. But my question to you is this, what could you possibly narrow that down to to sell a product? That is what you should be thinking about. Narrowing your niche helps tremendously. You can help people, but at the same time what product could you be promoting to help them? I hope I didn't ramble on too much and I hope that I was able to help maybe push you in the right direction. There are lot's of people here in the community that are willing to answer questions. So, if I didn't help someone else definitely will. Good luck with your new business!

Tysm JC for the time you dedicated to my concern. Regarding the examples I gave, there is no real specific product, it's more all related to online shopping in general with delivery service (buying clothes on your favorite online store or food-shopping online).
The only thing I could think of would be books for entourage helping them to understand better how we work.
Or helping people like me to find alternative jobs like the opportunity to work from home.
TYSM for your help JC

Hi Nora,

I did a quick check on Asperger Syndrome in Jaaxy and found there are some excellent keywords for you to use. It is not an oversaturated niche. It would be an outstanding niche for you!

I also found, with a Google Search, that there are only about 200,000 US cases of Asperger's per year. So, the market may not be huge, but it is under-served.

If you are still at Level 1 of the Online Entrepreneur Certification program, then you are in an excellent place to make this choice. However, if you are still at this Level, then it is premature for you to be concerning yourself about affiliates at this time. You will deal with that at a different Level and later Lessons. So, please don't stress about it. Just rejoice. :)

I wish you much success here at Wealthy Affiliate.

I'm a bit stumped between a few ideas for a niche:
1. something I struggle with personally, but have been working on and researching (storage and organization)
2 something I enjoy doing when I find a bit of spare time (gaming)
3 something a lot of friends and family come to me fo help with (finding the best deal on x) ---this is the problem #3 could go so many different directions people have asked me so many times "where'd you find that?!" "Why can't I ever find deals like that?!" -when they ask about something I've bought recently whether it's a killer price on clothes, school supplies, a pool, a toy fo my son,a piece of furniture, something for my 6 cats etc... It's hard to choose just one to start with...

Hello Lorna and welcome to Wealthy Affiliate.
You don't want to choose something that is broad.
Which one of those would you be able to constantly write quality content about without getting bored or running out of things to write about?
You can also ask yourself
I want to help people_______
and fill in the blank.
Choosing your audience may help to choose your niche.

You may be able to do like a "best deal finder" type of site as well.
I checked Jaaxy and there isn't as much competition in it as I thought there would be.

I hope some of this helps.
Here is a link that may help as well. Wishing yo the best in all you do

All of them has potential to be the direction you can choose. You have to choose one which you think can get you start off easily.

The first one sounds interesting as you can directly relate to your experience.

Gaming is broad and competitive. You may want to 'niche down' to something less competitive within the niche.

The 3rd one would be covering a lot of things but could be narrowed down to certain product.

All the best.

Start with something you are passionate about or that you know something about. It's easy to blog when you have a background on a subject. I just seriously started three days ago and had the same thoughts on niches.

I started with chickens as I raise chickens and want to help anyone (who has chickens or is interested in getting started into chickens) know more. I can give them my experiences...easy to talk about. I also started another website about crafting....something I've been doing for many many years. Another subject that is easy for me to talk about.

Once you get started on something you actually know something about, the ball gets going...then you will want to get more and more niches going!

Keep up with the training, Kyle makes it easy to understand and then ideas come rolling...especially the niche training. Plus the people in this community are AWESOME and very helpful!!!!!

You don't list your niche or it doesn't need to be listed. Your niche is your decision on the direction of your business, which can be anything you like.

You then build your website based on this. So don't doubt your niche, choose it, then move onto the next lesson.

I just finished the pick a niche video and I wanted to focus on Halloween Costumes. I have about six or seven blog ideas within that niche from safety-to-comfort to dressing for a party or street trick or treating and so on. This can also be expanded beyond Oct. 31st to other ideas including theater and tourist industry.

I see there are several costume affiliate programs with various companies. How do I pick one; or can I choose more than one.
I'd like to get my website up and running ASAP.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Yes, there are lots of opportunities within any niche.

You can promote as many affiliate programs on your website as you like.

Over time you will likely be promoting many different products/services on your website and this will take place as your build out content and you see a good match between an audience and a product.

Remember, your role as an affiliate is to connect your traffic (an audience) with a product or service that will benefit them. This will be based on the context and relevance of the content.

are you talking about siterubix, if so then you will have to purchase a domain.
you select a name and type it into sitedomains and it will tell you if it is available.
if it is then go ahead and purchase it - remember this is a yearly price.
you can then transfer all of your work to your new site by using the move menu item in sitemanager on your original site.

Oh! I like the idea of promoting Wealthy Affiliate and I have a niche
that I'd like to work in, actually an MLM company that I'd like to promote and I am trying to figure out how to be an affiliate with them. I wonder what direction to go in since Kyle said to pursue one or the other but not both.
Reply
Kyle Premium
Sure, you most definitely can. The key when building a business online (or offline) is building a focused audience and brand through helping people within a certain niche. It is very difficult to make a product/service your niche and that is the reason people that are within MLM don't actually have a business, they are reliant on the MLM itself versus their own brand/foundation.

You are going to learn how to properly build a business online here at WA in any niche. Within that respective niche, you are going to be able to promote many different products (Your MLM included). This will position you for much longer term success and a great deal of long term sustainability with your business.

If you can help people, you can create a long term business doing so.

That said (in a new paragraph!), once I get a page or pages, or the whole thing, drafted, can another in WA do a quick critique of the site or the reading of the content?

Building a WordPress site is YouTube stuff getting traffic is also YouTube stuff. You still haven't given directions to set up or get into affiliate marketing.

So what exactly is this another way how to make money from other people signing up and getting commission, like seriously what you have taught will help me to make money online, oh yes only if I sign up for a membership then i might get help in doing so very lovely scheme.

Maybe I should create a blog/website exposing schemes like these.
Reply
LeeMcQuay Premium
Hello Pascal. I can assure you that this is not a scheme.
THe training here is step by step and is of greater quality than what you would get anywhere else and would cost you more.

Sure you can find things out on your own for free, but they aren't going to TEACH you and they will not give you every detail that you will need in order to become successful.

About the affiliate links. Like I said the training is step by step. That is putting the horse before the cart.

Affiliates have expectations. They will not want someone who just threw up a website and applied to be their affiliate. They will deny you.

Affiliates want quality websites that have a good amount of traffic and quality content . You will be required to make a sale in a certain amount of time or they will give you the boot.

You will not find a better training platform, with this level of quality, tools, support, hosting, security and an out of this world community for free or even for the small fee that they charge here.

I am sure once you gave it a try, you would see that.
Wealthy Affiliate is no where near like the rest, The owners are kind, caring and are here helping their members.

I think it is not uncommon to have to invest in a business in order to see a return. I have done some extensive research as a newbie to this whole thing and Wealthy Affiliate is a super reasonable platform to get started. Your success is determined by not only your skillset, but your mindset too and based on your comment above, sounds like you are participating in a negative frame of mind which isn't going to yield anything positive for you. When you say "no surprise" to finding a dead end, that means you were expecting to find one. I wonder what would happen if you were to be in a mental space of a positive expectation instead? The internet is vast and resources are too. There is plenty of free training online about affiliate marketing. If you don't want to pay for the training, there are avenues you can take, but at the end of the day, you will need some startup cash for your business to build a foundation in which your success will spring from. That is true with any business both on and offline. Perhaps your efforts would be better spent on focussing on what you can achieve and what could be rather than dwelling on how you are being victimized by someone else's efforts to succeed. If you want to write blogs and websites that delineate how unjust you deem such platforms to be, then do it! Maybe that's the way you will make your money. Whatever your outcomes, I wish you all the very best in your efforts and your path ahead. Through a ton of super harsh challenges in my life, I have come to know that life really is what we make of it with our perceptions of it. You are totally golden, worthy and magnificent! Believe in that and then you will see the situations before you unfold that support that belief. Good luck!

Hello, Pascal. Surely you have heard that you get what you pay for. The fact that WA allows you to even participate on their site for free for two websites- who else has that? If you know, then go there and build your site and grow your business. You could continue to learn as much as is available here for free until you save up for the premium membership. Consider sharing with family and friends what you are doing here and ask for investors: if ten friends invest in you at $5/month, you can get premium sooner; trade some favor in exchange as necessary. Your investors will be cheering you on as well as we, the people at Wealthy Affiliates.

Very well said. I am only 2 hours into this network and community and I am super excited about the opportunity to learn. The statement that you make about going into this with positive expectations is a great way to look at things. I think that goes with anything in life. If you think of negative outcomes, then negative is what you'll get because that's what you are looking for. Anyway, good post.

Done. With the lesson and with applying the lesson on my website.
But it still looks like a blog. And I'm hoping for something cleaner than that, without the commenting and post archiving, etc. associated with blogs. By now I get that the idea is to direct the potential customer to the retailer, so that the customer makes a purchase and I get paid; so, that's what I'm aiming for with the website.
I'm probably being impatient and this will soon be covered in a future lesson. The question is: when the time comes, will it take much to deblogify my website?
Thanks

Hi Kevin,

Do you mean you don't want to have comments and archives on your website? The ones in the sidebar?
Reply
KevinH427 Premium
Yes.
I like that your initial page, where you introduce yourself and review the competition (the landing page?) is fairly clean. It has a few things in the side bar, last of which is the link to the proven, 4-step system, that remains fixed on the screen when the user scrolls down, an interesting feature, that brings the user to what appears to be a book you've written. No archive, no comments.
"Here's my Top Recommended Program" takes them to the page that captures their email (the capture page?). No sidebar there; no comments (user communication) there or at the bottom. Even cleaner.
That aspect of the look you've achieved is what I'm hoping to accomplish.
Thanks.

Ah I see. All those are created using a paid tool. You can still do similar things but it's not that well-designed.

For example, you can create a New Page in your WordPress and then set the layout of the page as "full-width". And then it will get rid of the sidebar for that particular page.

However, for my blog, I still have sidebar and all the blog features. Just that I use full-width page for more important landing pages.

Anyway, if you are willing to invest in another paid tool so that you can have your site look very similar to mine, let me know so I can explain more to you on that.

When I started my site, I went onto Jaaxy and typed out random ideas for topics and selected keywords from there. I would go on to free-write whenever I could and inevitably make great content. When I am not writing, I typically pull out my phone and type in some ideas I have whenever they come up so I can save them for later use. I find it easier to type in ideas when I get them as opposed to when I need them.

Have you chosen your niche yet? If so, I found it much easier to follow the turorial first so that I would know what I was doing. Only after I figured that part out did I take time out to think about what I needed to write about and research what was related to my niche. Unfortunately, I got sick and have been gone for a week and have not moved on yet from writing my first bit of content and have just today started doing that. as for the other questions, that has by me yet to be seen so I can not offer a good answer there. I understand how to do this, but can't seem to figure what to do, as far as picking a niche. There are so many choices. I feel like no matter what I choose, though, eventually I will run out of ideas to keep it going or things to blog about.

if you start creating articles about something you like or want to do then you can always broaden your niche slightly if you run out of ideas - most niches will have areas which can be expanded on.

Perhaps I'm missing the big picture here. This is where I continue to get stuck. My niche ideas seem too broad or too narrow. If I go with, for instance, "weighted blankets" for special needs kids it seems too narrow for me to continue to bring new content to the site. Then, if I were to choose, "special needs kids", it is way too broad. I have several ideas, but keep running into this issue.

you could always choose special need kids (children) an concentrate on small sections - like weighted blankets until you run out of content to write and then moe onto another area - but you must exhaust the one area before moving ont othe next one.
Good luck with your choice.
your first site doesn't have to be THE one, use what you know to prevent overload with learning all of the new skills and business model.
You can always start another one further down the line.

Hello. I wonder if anyone could help me here....
I m interested in cryptocurrencies n i have a community-based "product" that goes with it. I m not sure how this falls under affiliate marketing as described in the video. (People dont go to Amazon, or ebay for a crypto-currency. In this case, they have to go straight to the trusted seller).

If your product is affiliated with affiliate marketing where you have people join your downline or program then you wont be able to promote cryptocurrency on WA.

That's a very good question @melua75. When I hear crypto currency I just think scam. I would also like to know how do you know what is legit and what is not?

I'm totally undecisive on my niche. I'm leaning towards either converse high tops or animae because my daughter loves them both and Christmas is around the corner. I believe animae is to open. I'm also considering weightloss. Is it ok to do affliates boot camp before proceeding to choosing a niche step?

I am doing the training first at least half of it. I am very happy with this program so I am going to promote it first. I will find another niche to promote after that.

You mention about doing the boot camp but you don't say whether you have completed the training that precedes it. As to your niche - it is up to you. You have to choose something that you are really passionate about and will have no trouble writing content

Hi Nancy,

There are two courses here:

Online Entrepreneur Certification (OEC) course - this is for ANY niche.

Affiliate Bootcamp course - this is for promoting WA in niches like affiliate marketing niche.

If you're picking a niche site, you will be doing the OEC course.

When deciding on a niche, you need to just pick one, don't try to do two or more sites at once.

Anime & high tops are good niches but you should pick something YOU like or else you won't be able to write a lot of content on these niches.

Also, don't choose a niche with with a branded product, it's too narrow and limiting.

Here is so more help for niche picking: You can also go on Amazon.com to get ideas from their categories as well, each one of their sub-categories could be a great idea for a niche.

Also, I recommend using a free site first instead of buying a custom domain until you feel comfortable keeping the niche you picked. This way you can delete and start over without the extra $15 expense for another custom domain.

It's really easy here to transfer a free site to your own domain later on.

Hope this helps,
Grace

Thank you Grace very informative and useful.

Yes I completed training that precedes. I was trying to pin down a niche so thought maybe the boot camp would be a good starting point to gain some experience vs. money. I guess my thinking was getting comfortable with a niche because money isn't gonna follow with out the know how and comfort in abilities. Thank you for reply. I'm open to any suggestions.

I found the pick a niche for success very helpful and I an going to take advantage of the recommendation to move on with training and come back to pick niche so I have a better understanding of entire process and find my niche. Thanks grace

Okay but don't go too far into the training without picking a niche. The way the training works is that you will be building your site with it so you could apply what you learn right away. Just a thought and why I mentioned about the free sites.

This may be a stupid Q but here it goes: If I upgrade to premium and if for some reason I wish to stop the online business later on, is there a way of unsubscribing so I wouldn't have to make the monthly payments? I do want to give this a serious try and am already immensely excited to start writing but I just don't want to back myself into a corner if anyone knows what I mean.

Not a stupid question at all, it is wise to know all the facts.

You own your website so if you choose not to continue here you have 30 days to move your website to other hosting.

If you cancel your membership, say your paying monthly, your membership will continue until the end of your billing cycle, so at the end of that month you will no longer be a member. You can cancel at anytime.

If you do nothing after cancelling your website will not be hosted any longer.

Hope that helps answer your questions.

Really useful lesson! But I've got 2 questions if I may. Why is it not recommended to own a site that promotes a random niche and, at the same time, another site that promotes WA ? Or didn't I understand correctly? And the 2nd question is, wooden toys or watch bracelets would be ok as a niche?
Reply
onmyownterms Premium
1) Because the time commitment to make two sites while you're learning is incredible - focus on one while learning, expand after it is more easily accomplished.
2) Any topic is OK as long as you are passionate about it.
Reply
Karin13 Premium
It is really difficult to do both types of sites at the same time. Not impossible, but really difficult. Both are time intensive.
Wooden toys or watch bracelets would be ok as niches. :) I think the wooden toy one would be amazing!

Hi Alexandra,

It is definitely possible to have more than one site. It is however recommended to start with only one, make that a success and then expand to others eventually.

Too many people get excited when they start and start several sites, which means they will spread out their work. This means it will take longer to succeed and there will be more to do, and often people that start this way burn out and give up before getting success.

So you can definitely have more sites eventually, but by focusing on one in the beginning you will succeed faster.

About the niche - both could be good niches. Personally, I think wooden toys sound awesome:-)

1. Both your home and about Kyle shows about Kyle. In my case, the Home does not show my about me post. Why?
2. Even if I deleted contact address from Twenty Sixteen theme I swiped with Hiero, a line did not delete and the contact address still is faintly visible.
Overall the site does not look clean on the right-hand corner. Is there a way to fix it?

Hey Anusuya,

Here is a tutorial to show you how to edit your comment here at WA: that way, you won't need to start a new comment each time you want to add something.

As for your URL working... when I click on it I can see your website. See 1st screen print below.

You really need to turn on your site's SSL certificate: As to your 2 questions above:

1.) Your home page is either a blog roll ...OR... a page that you create to introduce your nice to website visitors who visit your website via your domain name. It is NOT intended to be your About page.

2.) The 2nd screen print below shows your website contact page and I do not see what you are referring to when you stated:
"Overall the site does not look clean on the right-hand corner."

Perhaps you meant that you do not like the name of your free theme showing. However, when getting to use a theme for free, all the developer asks of us is to leave that name and link there to give the developer credit where credit is due.

Hope this helps you.

I am strickly a new new newbie. My sister told me to try this and I want to prove her wrong that I can earn money online. I don't have a car to get to work now. I had an accident that led to a total and yes I'm still distraught. I came upon this site because I want to earn money online like most affiliates. Most of the affiliate sites require you have a website so this will be the hardest part for me to structure a site worth the review of the big dogs like Walmart, Apple, Best Buy, and yes, Amazon. I will have interrupted learning sessions as I go forward replacing my work vehicle but I am tired of leaving my home to work for someone else. I want to earn income at home for a change. Will I get the support I need to earn? Thank you for reading my post and helping me in every way.

I am excited to start building websites around the niche I've chosen (Tarot), but I am wondering, can I also promote my own services as well as products? I've been reading Tarot cards since I was very young (my mom sparked this passion), and within the last two years, I started reading for strangers for free, and after the 2 years and plenty of feedback, I want to start doing paid readings. Is this something I can also promote within my blog? I understand I obviously wouldn't be getting affiliate pay. Any suggestions or comments or advice is welcomed, thanks everyone!

Hi guys !
Very exciting to get started! i have a handful of ideas for my first niche but i am unsure of what to pick! Im thinking either something involving the food industry ig: a blog about recipes/ healthy meal options and hopefully able to get enough traffic i can start to gather affiliate links to cooking products.
I was also thinking about maybe fitness as my niche more specifically supplements & fitness accessories..
My last though was that i am a nurse with obstetrical experience and knowledge regarding this topic. I could start a web page to try and debunk a lot of myths i hear from my patients on products such as formula/bottles or even more specifically bottles for babies with colic and cleft palates (this would allow me to reach a further audience of mom with babies with genetic malformations and complications)

Let me know what you think = ) !
Reply
JBjune Premium
I would suggest creating a site based off what you are familiar with which is your obstetrical nursing experience. That field encompasses a lot of territory. You can build off of that creating content that can lead to supplements and fitness, food, recipes, and products all while dispelling myths within this field. You will have content that will last you until .......................................

Hey @TarynMik All great ideas! You might find it easier to create content about something you are familiar with and what better than your work as a nurse! I would personally be super interested in your obstetrical experience.
All the best to ya!
Reply
TarynMik Premium
I think my only fear in pursuing building a website around my obstetrical knowledge is that I will need to make sure I am backing my knowledge with scholarly references and information. There are so many "mommy" blogs out there talking about products from experience with their own children. I don't have the experience of being a mom but what i do have is the education and background of being a labor and delivery nurse. I will somehow have to think of a way to make my website stick out and convince my audience that they would want to use my links to products due to my background rather than from a site that is based on personal experience. I am just nervous that because i dont have the personal experience that i may not succeed in this niche.

Do you realize a lot of people pick a niche and have very little knowledge about their product. They gain the knowledge over time because they are constantly researching content and information. Like Nike says, Just Do It.

Something else just occurred to me...if you are still working in the medical field somewhere, you may see if you can talk to your establishment's lawyer(hopefully for free) about any medical liability issues, and where the line is for you to not have ANY liability.

I’ve heard that if you have a very specialized niche, like your obstetrical training, it becomes a “super niche” and one that you’d have more authority on and less competition. I’m a newbie though so this is just an impression I’ve gotten with the very little experience I have as of yet.

Wow what a list!
I think you might be trying too hard on this one, it should actually be a pretty easy choice.

What do you like doing the most?
During a normal week what do you spend more time doing than anything else?

The answer to those two questions is your answer if you have two different things, then start with one and after it is up and running smoothly making you money then start the second one.

The system is simple lets not try to make it harder than what is really is. LOL

Hope this helps,

What topics will you write about Gazella? That will determine your choice of keywords.

To get you thinking what sort of pain have you helped people with? What sort of symptoms do they show? Think about what you can tell people to help them and structure your content around those then you will have some keywords you can check in Jaaxy.

with kitchen gadgets you will have tons of choice - just check out amazon for the range.
both are very big topics, you could just do blenders in kitchen gadgets and make avery good site out of this.
gadgets for pain relief could be another niche site.
get to know the audience well and you will do well.

As I am learning about about all of this, one question comes to mind- why would someone go to Google to search up a product, then find a website that, for example, lists Amazon as an affiliate link to buy that product, when the person can just go straight to the Amazon...or Best Buy...or Target...etc, and buy that product

The idea is that you make a site that attracts people to it because they're interested in what you have to say. Then your content is linked to your review articles enticing them to buy. Most people don't know what they need until they're told. Jim

Hi Guys,
I'm just wondering if it's possible to change the name of my website now that I've started making it. I've completed the tasks up to and including lesson 7 and feel like my 'niche' has headed in a slightly different direction. It's still the same idea, same website but the name isn't so relevant anymore.

Will you be purchasing your own domain name Marketa or staying on the free starter membership? If you are going to buy a domain then I wouldn't worry about changing it now, you can choose a new domain name when you buy one.

Make sure you are happy with it when you do, that the spelling is correct etc.. before you buy as you can't change it once you do.

If you are going to stay on the .siterubix domain you could create a new site with your second free one and transfer your existing site to the new one.

You can change the site title on your website at any time, but that doesn't change the domain name. So you may have a domain name called: cookingforprofit.com but the title on your actual website might be Baking For Profit or Cakes for Profit.

What you don't want is for your domain name to be vastly different from the website title as that just becomes confusing. So if your domain name is cookingforprofit.com and then they get to your website and the title is Dog Beds 4 You that would just seem strange.

Hope this helps and I haven't confused you. Please feel free to ask any other questions if you need clarification.

Thats an excellent niche. Culinary and baking is a multi billion dollar industry. Go for it. Create your own cookbook with professional images and sell it on your site. Do cooking webinars. The list is endless

Hi Huan,

Go for it! You don't have to know all about it or be an expert to start. Just do your constant research for your blog articles and in that process, you will become an expert.

I wish you much success with your new Wealthy Affiliate (WA) business!

I would say yes, as long as you enjoy what you are doing in your own website. Just an advised stay away on copying others content in other website. And just finish first your training in here. Actually, I am a newbie too in WA. But I had some ideas before, that might be I could apply in my own website soon. That i will build these website on what my passion, my hobby and things that needs to be done but not started yet. I am a big dreamer since then. The only problem of mine I am overwhelmed of too much issues in my surrounding.

My niche is showcasing mixed-breed dogs (mutts) and removing the stigma associated to them. I want my site to be a place for "mutt" owners to go to brag about their dogs, send pics and stories, helpful hints. At the same time I want to provide info about mixed breed dog clubs, shows and events, places dogs are welcome, and links to merchants who specialize in canine clothes, collars, leashes, toys, etc.

Thank you all for your encouragement on my niche, I am very excited about it and have been working on the content, how to organize it and reaching out to affiliates for their info to make sure they are what I am looking for to include on my site. I have been to so many sites that have too much flash, unrelated links and too confusing or a user. Just want to be true to my niche...lol.

I had the idea to use the different ways to make money online as my niche and the comparison of each way including individual websites inside each way as in selling items on popular online sites such as ebay, Amazon, etsy and so on. My plan is to be researching these ways to make money online at the same time by using them and i should end up drawing an income with many or most of them as well so I'd be multiplying my earnings if it works out how i want it to. Any suggestions on how to minimize the work and efforts i would need to dedicate my time to in this area so i can begin to bring money in quicker. I know these are all a timely process in themselves to get started. I was thinking of something like making a page of idea and brainstorming and adding pages as i go to record progress and increase income with each new level of advancement i achieve. Please give me any and all suggestions because i need direction and discipline to complete this project successfully for this topic or niche. It's a rather advanced and complicated idea to start with and its still quite messy and unorganized. Thank you for your help and support. I look forward to hearing your feedback, good and bad.

Hi Nicole,
I can relate to what you want to start your business that you want to promote as many products on your site as you possibly could. That was my perception when starting my site that I want to promote everything under the sun. I only realized that it is a bad idea. With so broad niche, it's hard to get ranked in Google which is key to get traffic to your site.

You can have thousands of products on your site but if there is no traffic, there's no sale. Hope that makes sense.

You'll learn through the training that the first thing you need to do is to find a niche market you want to head on. It's a more specific market, targeting specific audiences.

I would suggest to go through the training step by step and start building your site according to the recommendation given in each module.

Wishing you a great success.

So far so good, however my site has an "About the Author" section that i would like to delete. I've checked everywhere under Appearance and can't seem to find the section to delete it. I've explained enough of "About" in my first post so i feel this section is redundant but if i can't than no big deal, Ill just a snippet so it wont be blank. Any help is greatly appreciate it!

Good question, Ingrid. This is usually published in the form of a page. So if you go to your wordpress back office, and click on pages, it should show up there. There is an option that appears to "trash" it when you hover over the post. Clicking on "trash" will delete it from your live website. Hope this helps and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Ingrid,

Like Reyhana said, it isn't under Appearance, it's under Pages in your WordPress Dashboard.

In Pages, hover your mouse cursor over any page you wish to delete and click Trash.

Likewise, any page you wish to edit, just hover your mouse cursor over its name and click Edit.

Any other assistance you need, just ask. Wishing you success here at WA!

Hi i,m a Forex trader i think that fx robots and fx indicators is a good niche but there is one major problem and that is competition it,s going to be hard to let my website stand out from the others maybe i should start with a smaller niche like dogs or sleep

Hi Daniel - Yes Forex trading could be quite broad.
I see you have a guitar in your pic. Do you play, Do you love music? Do you like electric guitars better than acoustic or do you see a need for both?
Hmm just a thought but guitars may be a cool niche :)
Let me know your thought

I've heard it said that follow up is the most important part of building an online business. I've read that the initial sale is only a small part of successful marketing. Does WA provide a way to up-sell/retain repeat customers without it all going 100% to the supplier after that initial sale?

For follow up and upselling, you may want to look into Email Marketing and building a sales funnel.

WA has some webinars on these such as :

Hi!
I know you said that we are publishing "About Me" as a post so we can have a comment section, but this just seems so weird to me.

I am really new to this, but I have seen many sites that just have it as a page. If we publish it as a post won't it get lost on the bottom of our blogroll after we have more posts?

I am sure you guys know what you are doing, I am just curious.

Oh, so we add it to the menu in the next lesson. No question then. :)

Hi Allan - It will just sit there until you pick it up
May I suggest this- Work out how much your premium amount is if you live outside the USA/Canada and divide it into weekly amounts. Then put the weekly amount into a separate bank account especially for WA and then each month you will know you have the amount to pay.
That is how I do it and over here in New Zealand, it is over $74 every month and I worked it out at just over 2.70 per day which makes it so easy when I looked at it in small amounts
I hope this helps

Hello my friend, I also have that same question because I may be in a tight situation here soon. But I think you can just pay per month as you go along. At lest that is what I hope it is. This sure seems like a great opportunity though! I am going to do everything I can to to stay paid up and "in".

Hi Allen,

The gloom reality is, after 30 days of no payment your content is deleted.

After one year if you do not renew the domain name it is surrendered back into the system of available domains for anyone to purchase.

if you upgrade and pay upfront the yearly membership cost and buy one domain

Then you use the system for one year with no more cost for the year to do this you are looking at roughly $375.00 one year membership and one domain for one year- that breaks down to $31.25 a month- but it has to paid up front to get the great deal.

If not its $49.00 US monthly and roughly $15.00 US for a domain name or over $600.00 US for the year, so by paying full year upfront you save a lot -- over one third cheaper!!

Hope this helps,

Calvin

You can simply move onto the next less. Down the right hand side of the training you will see all of the lessons within the course, and you can navigate there to previous lessons, and the next lessons.

Why cant I see the "home" and "privacy policy" boxes to choose? My menu only allows for me to name my Menu bar then post it. Did anyone else go through this? I want to be able to add those two things and continue the menu lesson but I'm stuck!

Essential video to watch and re-watch if you have been away from the site for AWHILE like me lol. This time I took notes. This video explains how to log into your new website, activate and update the 2 plugins (EWWW Image Optimizer and and All in 1 SEO Pack.
It then provides an overview of the Dashboard Menu from top to bottom, the General Settings, and how to remove dummy content on pages and posts.

I just watched the video on how to make money. There are lots of links that someone may choose to buy that Dallas Football snack helmet. So whatever is chosen for my niche, I guess I would be hoping that someone will chose my website to order. Am I seeing that right?

That’s right, the rest of the training shows you how to structure you posts so they rank higher in the search engines, so,people will find you site and hopefully click on the links.

It shows you how to write good content, choose affiliate partners, work social media etc.. all the stuff you need to be successful.

Best wishes to you.

I think I pretty much think I know what my niche would be, I love to paint so do I demonstrate painting or do I speak about painting or do I promote brushes and canvas exactly what am I going to be doing. And according to what I'm reading and everything I think we're supposed to be setting up a website that's kind of scary for me I don't know if I can do that
