How Will YOU Earn Money?

There are many ways to make money online! The problem is that people often get distracted by the "latest and greatest" product or service and they are never able to build a successful (and revenue generating) business.

Today we are going to run you through one of the most fundamental, yet the most powerful processes of generating revenue online.

It is a proven process, it is one that we use, and one that 100,000's of other Wealthy Affiliate members use. It is also the ultimate "making money" process that worked 5 years ago and it is going to work 5 years from now. It is a process that will reveal as much opportunity in the massive online world as you are willing to work for!

Just one thing before you get into the MONEY "stuff"...

The making money part of your business won't happen quite yet.

Before you earn money, you are going to first be focusing on creating your niche website (which will take place in the next two lessons) and are working to get traffic to your website. Without a website, without content, and without traffic, the MONEY part simply doesn't happen.

So don't look at this like a race. You will reach success and a great deal of it, but before you build your own personal SKYSCRAPER of a business, you must first have a solid FOUNDATION to build it on. That is going to be our first goal within the Getting Started training. Cool?

Alright, let's continue on! :)

Below is a video walk-through of today's lesson and the process of "How to Make Money Online". Just click the PLAY button to watch it!

DISCUSS THIS VIDEO HERE:
How to Make Money Online - The Process Explained

Over the coming days you are going to be working through this process and by the end of this Level 1 training alone, you are going to have an awesome foundation in place that will lead you to much greater success.

Task #1: Understand the Make Money Process

There are MANY different ways that you can earn money online and many different ways in which you can build an entire business. In the coming lessons we are going to be walking you through the following process (and the video above explains it).

There are 3.75 BILLION people online as of 2018 (YOUR audience) and these people are searching for things all the time.

They are looking for information, solutions to problems and to buy stuff. That is where you are going to come in with your website and help these "audiences" by offering them information about what they are looking for. You will be "helping" these people and earning revenue in the process.

By Lesson 4 of this course you are going to have your very own "niche" website in place that you will use to connect with your chosen audience. You will have your very own piece of the internet and a platform to connect anyone that you want who browses the Internet.

Task #2: Create (Write Down) Your Financial Goals

You want to earn revenue right? That is great! In order to earn anything however, you need to have some goals in place.

In this task we want you to join in on a "money goals" discussion here at Wealthy Affiliate. You are going to be telling us what your goals are and going forward, we are going to be helping you achieve these very goals!

QUESTION #1: How much money would you be happy earning?

QUESTION #2: How much would you be ecstatic earning?

QUESTION #3: And how much TIME are you willing to invest to achieve these goals?

PLEASE make 100% sure that you do not skip this step and you revisit this post regularly when you are in need of some motivation. I can absolutely assure you that if you work hard at this and you are persistent towards these goals, you will achieve them. But ultimately it is UP TO YOU!

Join Discussion: What Are Your "money" Goals?

In addition to this, it would be wonderful if you commented on someone else's goals they have posted within this thread. Aim to comment on at least TWO people's goals. You likely can network with many other "like minded" people here at Wealthy Affiliate and this is a good way to get your networking efforts rolling. We are a friendly bunch here at WA!

Awesome, off to the next lesson now where you will be "choosing your niche"!

I'm sure that some of them could, and should, be eliminated. One thing that you might want to do is check your site load time. Check it before and after eliminating extra plugins. Anything over 3 seconds to load may be costing you visitors and commissions. As to what plugins to remove it would depend somewhat on If they are hosted here or elsewhere.

Thank you. Now I have to decide whether I should keep my woocommerce as a drop ship website or make all my products affiliate products. I don't know which would be a better income right now because it might make them not come back to my page if I push them towards an affiliate. ????

It sounds like you are unsure about direction - it might be a good idea for you to go through the training on a free site from scratch and see how Kyle sets up a website. You will then know which plugins are basic and what you would actually need.

Most importantly Kyle sets websites up for good traffic and SEO whereas you've had someone else input a lot of stuff, you want to make sure no steps have been skipped in that, so learn the ropes in here and then you'll know what to do with your other site

I notice you are a starter member and not premium, the sites hosted here do not require akismet, ssl or cache but with your other hosting you need all those.

Hello. I just joined WA today. I recently set up a website and use the Yoast SEO plug in but here it seems All in One SEO is preferred. It seems to me Yoast is better since it gives you content analysis on improving your seo. Is there an advantage to using All in One SEO that I'm not seeing?

Either or is completely fine. They both work well and if you are more comfortable using Yoast, you can use that. It is the Apple vs. Samsung of the SEO plugin world.

OK, so you need to place it in a menu.

Go into the back of WordPress.

Click on Appearance and then click on Menu.

You see Posts and Page options.

Click on Page and now click on your Privacy Policy.

Click Add to Menu - this should be our Primary Menu that you are adding to I believe.

Update and see if you can see it on your site.

Its late here so memory hazy but I think that should be correct APolanski and I also had awful trouble at this point, but good news... we will get through it.

Very interesting stuff here. My mind is all over the place and trying to narrow it down to a few ideas. The fact your mind is all over the place is a sign you are learning. When I was going through the first few lessons of the green course, my mind did the same thing. I almost switched to the black course, yet I knew focus needs one thing at a time. I am now in lesson 10. There is so much WA offers, it can be overwhelming. I suggest starting with the green course.

When it comes to a focus, you have some great places to start. Bed & Breakfast tips, Getting your GED, Parenting tips for parents with teenagers, etc. Pick one and create a blog site through the green course. This will give you a foundation to work from.

Hi,
I'm just starting out with my feelbetter .com website targeted at young adults daily health habits and choices of over-the-counter medicine. I'm trying to help people by making it easier to make smart health choices in a stressful world.
I'm having trouble finding good keywords to search Jaaxy for. I keep coming up with health insurance, pregnancy, children, sports medicine. Pretty much everything that I wasn't searching for. Since the health industry is such a broad field with very popular keywords, how can I target my search for keywords that fit my goals? Any suggestions?
Reply
BrandonW44 Premium
Yea,
Keep it simple. Don't narrow it down to a specific product you may promote.

Try things like "better your health," or "try this to help you feel better," or "increase your health," or "reduce your stress"

Your keywords are not necessarily descriptions, they are attractions. They are what attract your audience. However, they do need to relate to your product/content.

You will find that your keywords will be used everywhere, not just on specific topics. (health insurance, pregnancy....)

It's just important to looks at the stats, not necessarily what the keywords are used for (health insurance, pregnancy....)

You will be thought what to look for in lessons to come.

Thanks! I'll give that a try.

I tried medicine first and got nothing useful.

I was going to include health habits like how/when to exercise when you don't have time, which over-the-counter medicines work the best for which symptoms (this would be from my own experience and lead to discussion and hopefully affiliate sales), tips for women to get through their period with less pain, and eventually expand off of those basic tips to create an open discussion about taking care of yourself on a budget and a tight schedule.

Is it me, or is the practice set up to respond this way?
Every single keyword search I entered on the Jaaxy practice came back as <10.
I know I have definitely seen these very words used before.
They were good keyword searches and yet, every one came back saying the same thing.
I figured the Jaaxy practice session was just set up that way to show what to expect later on.

Thanks and I have a lot to learn. LOL.

Ok so I checked them out.
You can change
*How to earn great money from home to
How to earn REAL money from home AVG 96
I couldn't come up with much for
*Full time money part time hours
and I have tried earn while you learn for myself before. I gave up because I couldn't get any good numbers even by changing it around.
* Earn money in your spare time has an Avg of 80 but the QSR is 100 which means that is how many sites you will be competing with for that keyword.
When your initial keywords show a low AVG or a QSR over 100, try changing the some of the words around and see if you get better results.
I hope this helps you.

Freezing up choosing a niche; it seems so important and now I suddenly feel like I know absolutely nothing about anything and my interests are shallow! :-) A few questions: 1) If I need to write compelling blogs to drive traffic to my site, I'll need to research to become an expert or already be one, yes? 2) I'm interested in creativity, especially for people who think they're not creative. Too broad? I could narrow it down for older people, or "left-brained" folk, etc. There ARE products I could link to that I like...3) Lots of articles out there on this topic; are they potential affiliate links? Thanks for any feedback and help.
Reply
nathaniell Premium
To answer your questions Melissa:

1) Yes, you'll naturally become an expert as you research and write about your niche. That's why it's a good idea to choose something you're interested in.

2) Yes, I think this is too broad. I would tie your niche into something more practical, like "how to watercolor paint" or "how to publish your first kindle book" rather than "how to be creative"

3) There are affiliate products in every niche. Even if you can't think of some now, with research, and sometimes content tweaks, you can absolutely find a product to match up with any niche website.

Thanks for the feedback. It reminds me that creativity is sometimes seen as “doing art.” To clarify, I’m more interested in creativity as an aspect of success, health and happiness in any field of endeavor rather than teaching someone art skills.

is that sort of creativity also called resourcefulness?
Reply
Thanks MozMary for the question. I think of it as a combination of innovation, resourcefulness, ability to think laterally and try new things. Experiment. Combine materials or thoughts or approaches in new ways. It's a frame of mind. I appreciate the question, it's got me thinking! :-)

From my understanding, it is important to choose a niche we like because we need to keep writing about it.

Because if we become an affiliate of certain companies like Amazon, we need to create contents about that niche and so we can put advertisements about that certain niche.

When readers visit our websites because of their interest about the niche you are writing, they are more likely of buying something from Amazon.

It is a subtle way of selling.

I came across a company other than Amazon and read their terms and conditions.

Here's a clause that made realized that we are not suppose to be selling the products directly or obviously.

"The Affiliate shall not purchase any Product(s) through his/her own Affiliate promotions. Also, the Affiliate shall not cause any third parties to use the Affiliate Program to purchase any Product(s) with the intention of reselling such product or for commercial use of any kind. "

What are your thoughts about this? Any suggestion?

First point I think is more about not using your own links to gain commissions by you buying the product.

The second point I read to be aimed at not encouraging people who are buying to then resell to purchase through your affiliate links. They seem to want just personal shoppers as opposed to commercial buyers.

That's how I read it anyway.

Hi Heidi!

So it means it's really okay if your website looks obvious that you are directly advertising for them to buy?

So it means that you couldn't have someone buy stuffs from your links and sell them at the same price as long as you have an agreement that you both could take percentage of the commissions. Am I right?

Perhaps my understanding level is just so shallow.
Reply
HeidiY Premium
Some websites make it look very prominent that they are there to sell products, personally I don’t like it. A nice call to action button eg. Check price here with a link I think looks much nicer, but that’s just me.

I wouldn’t be advertising that people can buy through your links and sell at same or increased price. No need to do that. You won’t know the buyer and what they do after they purchase will have nothing to do with you.

Edited to add: you should not be colluding with buyers to use your links and then sharing commissions.
Reply
TechieFinch Premium
So for as long as you don't have any agreement or connection with the buyer, it really means that your website is okay to be like an extension of their store?

But, to me, it doesn't look appealing if I do that.

Thanks for answering my dumb questions! :)
Reply
HeidiY Premium
No such thing as a dumb question :) I can't see that you have any control over what the buyer does with the product once it is purchased.

Hopefully someone with more experience than I will come along shortly in case I am completely misinterpreting this question. I don't think it would be a good idea to have another website like an e-commerce site linking back to your sites affiliate links, especially if you are associated with the other site. I think this is what is called black hat SEO and frowned upon by Google.

I'm not sure why you would do that anyway, concentrate on building a site for your niche, than your job is to get people to click the link and purchase, that's all.

It is actually the beauty of affiliate marketing because you don't hold stock, manage orders or post out.

Along the training, my impression of the example shown, about the snack helmets, it looks like an extension of an ecommerce website.

For me, an ideal website to be an effective affiliate would be giving out your opinions on the product features, talking about what's new on the niche, and comparing related products of different brands.

You click publish if you're done with your blogs then it will go to your website.

These are all explained in Kyle's trainings, in course 1

hi i had a online store once on e bay. i did really well on selling educational toys. You know like lots of leapfrog and ect....So as my niche i was going with Educational toys. Do you think that is a good one or do i have to get more specific on the niche?

I think it's fantastic! You can also break it down on your site for age groups or school grade, as that's how I shop for my son.

Using age groups sounds like an excellent idea. That’s how I look for games for my grandchildren online. Great suggestion @UrsaMajor !

I decided to go with something way more simple for a niche just till I can get things down to a t, something Ive always wanted was a coffee house. Coffee for me is pretty much a way of life. I don't start the day until after that first cup and I don't end the day until the last cup. So for now I'm going to clear my head of everyother idea running and focus on this.

great, remember you have two free sites to use for the training so you don't have to commit straight away to any one niche, you'll get a feel for what you'd like as you get more experience

Hi,
I'm just starting this adventure on a shoe string budget. With the starter account what kind of costs should I expect? It sounds like I need to register a domain, have a website, not sure what other pieces yet. I'm trying to get involved with my eyes wide open.
Thanks

Hi,

I was in a similar position to you at the beginning. Registering a domain is a great idea as the free websites don't rank so well in Google. You can register a domain outside of WA, that's what I did. WA domains are about $15 a year from what I noted.

Then take your first month's premium membership for $19. After that it's $49 monthly or $359 (I think) for yearly.

For me, its worth the cost as I'd not have been able to build ny site to the level I have without access to the full training here. That's about all I paid out for and continue to pay for 6 months in.

All the best!

Thank you,
Who did you use to register the domain. There are a ton of sites and some have lost credibility.
Thanks again

hold on, did you say Starter? Well you don't buy a domain there, own domains need hosting and you will be moving on to Premium. Someone has told you the costs already for that, and that includes hosting, so around $15 plus Premium membership, most people don't spend any more till their sites are making money for them

You have two free sites in Starter, once you go Premium you unlock all the training and can't go back down to Starter

You can buy domains here at WA, but do the training on it first, no need to rush in till you know your niche and what you want
Reply
Yes, I'd like to know that as well.

I used lcn to register a my domains because I wanted dot co dot uk sites which WA don't offer. For my dot com I used Bluehost because I'd bought this before I discovered WA. I just turn my DNS servers to WA for hosting here (DNS stuff is explained in the training). Hope that helps.

OK I followed the sitebuilder link that was before the video and went through the stages of building a site. Its only when I came back to the lesson and went on to the video that I realised a mistake I made. I need to know if and how I can change the Website URL as it doesn't reflect the niche I chose. Hello All,

I hope I'm asking this in a way you guys understand. I already have content on my site and I'm trying to check and see if it is duplicated, so far its been saying that all my post is somewhere floating around on someone else's page.

My question is could it be saying its duplicated because my post have already been indexed in google and if that's the case should copy and paste it into the site content and then delete first?

Thanks in Advance,

Lynzy

could you clarify:

your content is indexed and what is telling you it is duplicate at this point? Did you paste it into sitecontent to check that, in which case it will know and call it duplicate

and now you are thinking of copying it from your site to sitecontent and deleting it on the site and republishing? <---doesn't sound like a good idea

I have a niche, one of many, that I really want to start with. I think it may be to broad. I am passionate about being a single mom and overcoming so many obstacles. Should I narrow this down or keep it broad. I want it to be more directed towards taking care of self while being a single mom. Any tips or suggestions?
Reply
Zappades Premium
It is quite broad, taking care of what, body, mind, money?
Reply

I was thinking the mental aspect because of course when you change your mindset, you can change other things.

ok, a better mindset for single moms?

Yes. Should I stick with that or gradually add more information targeting other areas like, body, money, etc.?

That's a great niche but I would try to start off focused on one area/aspect of being a single mom and then expand out into different aspects when you start getting some traffic to your site.

Mark (@Gunnhag) had a good suggestion

Yeah I totally understand where you are coming from. Im im that same mindset. Only I was thinking products in or even information and education to women trapped in domestic situations but clueless on how to get out because the financial aspect of it is overwhelming. As far as products go I was thinking of storage and organization, tips and tricks to help single parents save time and energy. I have 3 girls 4, 2 on the 21st of this mth and a 9 mth old. space is always an issue and time also

Kyle, I have come to this point and must say I am lost....I guess this whole concept of building a website is beyond me somehow. I need to have someone with me to build this from start so that I can understand this eg: why am I writing about me if I am promoting say some product or in my case houses etc. Also, I dived into the SEO aspect and noticed that there will be cost associated with posting the website out there? Please help

You can write about you, but I don't recommend it unless you are using yourself as an example to help others. Finding a Niche is simply finding a a topic to build your website around. My first one here is based on Dogs Dogs Dogs! I owned and operated a Pet Hotel for over 23 years, so it was natural to build a website on that topic. My second website here is based on a subject that I have always been interested in but had no experience with. I am learning about this niche as I am building out my website. Fun!

Maybe you have an interest in something, a hobby or even connected to another job or career. You can also pick a product and build a small website around that one product! Whatever you promote should be relevant to your Niche. An About Me Page is just ONE page that tells your readers what your website is basically about or maybe how it got started. It can be called About, instead of About me, or anything you like.

I see you are Premium, there does not need to be any extra costs since hosting or 'parking' your website here is included. You pay for your own Domains or use a free subdomain. I recommend buying your own Domain, generally most are only about $14 per Year or so. Your Domain could be compared to a piece of land that you need to place your house (website) on in order to run a business out of it. There are a lot of people here willing to answer your questions. First you have to get started though, work yourself through the lessons :)

Maddy55, thank you so much for such a speedy reply! I honestly am panicking as I had huge hopes to promote my real estate out there, without the online presence today its a no go. However, I just cannot get my head around this building the pages etc. I understand that a domain will cost small $ per year, my concern aside the above is the cost of being on Google, or is this part of WA? this is probably a damn question but right now time is of essence for me. Once I understand and grasp the first web I will be away as I have great hobbies and interest, no worries there!

Being "part of Google" doesn't cost anything other than you hosting which is included here.
Think of Google as a huge public library where anyone can go to get a book.
When you walk into the library you ask an assistant to fetch you a particular book and they will go off and fetch the one they think is most relevant to the questions you asked them.
Google are happy to have your great book in their library.
Building any page is exactly like building your "About" page. I think that is why they recommend you start there - as it is easiest.
No page's content is set in stone - you can change it any time you want.
To build your about page enter a title "About"
The in the big box below that enter some content - any content.
"Grrrr ... I'm frustrated!" will do.
Then go to the top right where it says "preview changes" - click on that and another tab will open with your changes. Voilla
Now go back to the About page and change the "Grrr ..." text part to something else and hit preview changes again - it will reflect the changes you made.
Play around with it until you start getting the hang of it.
You don't have to send anything to the library for now. You can "Save as draft".
It only goes live once you have "Published" it.
And by the way the little assistant at the front desk won't know its in the library for a while so there is no danger.
Hope that helps

'being on google' all sites get indexed automatically in google, WA trains you to set up your site to be found and how to write pages and posts that are found preferably on page 1 where the traffic is

so many other people are selling courses jam packed with expensive tricks that often don't work at all, but not sure what you are referring to here regarding costs of being found, your content is published immediately and google will come looking for it and rank it according to keywords or quality, that is the focus here

Magistudios has training on local SEO if you are a local or brick and mortar business with services, there are some tweaks

you could use your pen icon to ask questions of the broader community eg anyone here with experience in real estate, any good theme recommendations or tips etc

Your 'about me' does not have to be personal at all, it can be about your product but remember it is an opportunity to gain trust, hence any connection with who is selling the product however you want to present that is good

Hi, very nice to meet you and to become part of this really big project! My English is not very well, so can i have One question. Please, can you explain me about paying. It's going here about paing for $47 per month or $359 per year. I just what to understent fo my self. It's not on paing metods, right? I meen, if I will whant to continie use this servise, i need to pay every month? If i'll use this site for years, and i'll use sime sites for my interests, i'll pay avery month?

you have a choice to pay either by month OR by year

year is cheaper but month has no contract

you do not do both

that one payment method that you choose includes hosting for your sites

I am confused over "child themes" and how to do it. I am very specific over colors which is why before I choose the site, I am making sure it can add colors. After I do that, it won't allow me to save it. When I looked for help, wordpress said that to save and customize, it is easier using the child theme. I'm lost. I also am having trouble closing out of wordpress and returning to WA without having to go all the way out and then coming back in to WA. I know this is long and rambling, but am hoping someone knows what I'm doing wrong. Thank you all!

I have a question about domain extension. I was looking for a domain name that is suitable for my niche, but that domain name was not available. Suppose i was looking for Domainname.com but this wasn't available but Domainname.tech was available. If I choose this as my domain name for my website , would that be any problem to rank on google? Thank You.

Hi. While I am waiting for an answer I posted, I saw yours. Someone told me a long time ago to use .com when at all possible. Then I recently heard that net. and org. have specific followers, which I have no idea whether or not that true. What I decided is to not hedge my bets and find a domain name that works for .com. Hopefully, others will chip in here if they know a lot more than I do (easy to do)
Good luck no matter which you end up with.

.com .org .net are the 3 recommended here for precisely that reason, they do consider .tech or anything else could affect your rankings
Reply

Hi, in the past .org was used by charities but we are way past that now and the training recommends .com, .org, and .net

You'll see Jaaxy offers all these too as viable extensions when buying a domain name, and you'll see magistudios the live coach here is actually using .org for his main bootcamp site

Hi Community, what a great Sunday to you all. Got a question on niche. I naturally love food and look forward consuming it all the time. So i thinking on going for the Organic Food Niche, I'am not very sure if it is so broad or how to narrow it for the best.
Reply
MozMary Premium
great niche! You'll maybe hear different opinions on whether to narrow it down, and until you are sure you can use the training sites

think of your goals with the niche, your audience, what their needs are that you are going to address, the categories within it, how you'd build out your content - then you may find you are interested in a tighter segment of that niche or a broader one, just don't commit till you explore the niche and the competition - what are others doing out there in this niche and what aspect of it interests and excites you most

foodies aren't always into organic, your reasons for organic are important here.

there is a free event still airing at the moment with a heavy focus on organic food, it is called eat4earth and take a look at the speakers and topics discussed there, it may give you some ideas
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
I am a really big proponent of organic foods. The Organic Food niche is a great niche to target but it is too broad. You will need to focus in on a more specific aspect of why eating organic is better.

Seeing how organic foods cook quicker than non-organic foods you could make a website about how to grill organic foods and promote different gas grills. Or you can approach it from a natural health angle.

You could do a little research as to why eating organic is healthier and can help you lose weight when juicing fruits and vegetables. Then you could promote different types of juicers, blenders and smoothie makers.

Always try to focus down your niche ideas to the products or services that are associated with your broader niche market. To get a better understanding of what is a niche and how to narrow it down, I have created a tutorial about it, see below.
