Lesson 1, Getting Rolling!

First off, we would like to personally welcome you to Wealthy Affiliate. I am Kyle, co-founder of Wealthy Affiliate and I am going to be the one walking you through the training and the process of building a successful business online.

Carson, the other co-founder works more with the technical team (close to 30 full-time employees) so you will see a bit less of him, although he is still very much active here within the community every day.

Here is a photo of us and our families below (me and my family on LEFT, Carson and family on RIGHT). :)

Our goal in the early stages here is EARN your trust and help you get moving in the right direction with your business. We realize that the industry is full of companies that are not all that trustworthy and it has been our mission over the past 15 years to do things differently. Members here at WA succeed at the highest rate out of any platform online!

Don't worry, you will quickly get the hang of things! Stick with Wealthy Affiliate and you will achieve, and far exceed your goals. We teach what works.

(3) No Technical or Prior Online Business Experience Required. If you have experience that is great, but it is definitely not a requirement here at Wealthy Affiliate. Everything related to online business can be learned here within your membership and you definitely do not need to be a "techie".

(4) Success is a Journey. Success is very cumulative by design. This means that everything you do now, and every step you take will contribute towards your personal success in the future. An exciting journey does lie ahead and the effort you put forth now will pay off later and often times forever!

A Quick Look at How YOU Will Be Creating Success.

Success online is very simple at it's core. There is a 4-step business building process that you are going to be learning here at Wealthy Affiliate. Here is a quick diagram breaking down the process.

Broken, down, the process looks like this:

Step 1: Choose an Interest. This can be anything at all, any interest, passion or even something you have no personal experience with.

Step 2: Build a Website. Your website is your foundation and we have the most sophisticated and feature rich website and hosting platform here at Wealthy Affiliate.

Step 3: Attract Visitors. You are going to be learning all about how to get traffic and visitors to your website. The first focus is FREE traffic and there is A LOT of it out there.

Step 4: Earn Revenue. Once you have people on your site and traffic, you can earn revenue. There are over 50 ways you can monetize traffic online, and over 550 MILLION products/services that you can promote as an affiliate.

As you go through the training, this is going to be covered in detail. As mentioned, absolutely EVERYTHING you need is here at WA to facilitate this process! It is a true "earn while you learn" environment.

Before we go any further...

We want to give you two simple pieces of advice within the Wealthy Affiliate community.

Piece of Advice #1: Do not be afraid to ask questions! There are 100,000's of people here within WA at any given moment and many, MANY experts. If you need help, please ask! Go to the dashboard and leave a question, or you can contact me directly here.

PS. Carson and I (Kyle) help people all day, don't be afraid to reach out to me even if it is to say "hi".

Piece of Advice #2: Take action on what you learn! Action leads to success. You could read and watch the training until you are blue in the face, but if you never take action on it you won't achieve any success.

We don’t want to put any pressure on you and definitely do not want to overwhelm you as you get started, so we are going to give you three simple tasks to perform (as noted below). Spend a few minutes today and complete these tasks! :)

You are currently reading lesson 1 of a 10 lesson Getting Started course. This course is going to step you through the process of getting started. It will answer all of the questions that you have about earning money on the Internet, and will reveal exactly how to do it.

If you ever need to get back to your training, simply click the Training tab in the upper menu. This "smart" button will always take you back to your last completed task and you will also see your progress through the training.

Click the "Continue Here" to get back into your training at any time.

Your Current Tasks :)

In this Lesson you will become involved and immersed within the awesome community here at Wealthy Affiliate. We are a community that cares about your success, and one where you will create wonderful relationships within the industry. You will soon learn that you can SUPERCHARGE your learning and ultimately, your success by being active in the community, and immersing yourself.

This starts with uploading a picture, adding a few words about yourself in your profile description, and getting involved in a live chat with others. These tiny steps are referred to as your "Account Setup" tasks which we will discuss below in a little more detail.

Right now, there is no reason to delay your training, let's get started with your Tasks for today.

Task 1: Watch The Walk Through Video Below

Your first task today is to watch the "Wealthy Affiliate Walkthrough - How YOU Can Benefit From WA" video. This video will walk you through Wealthy Affiliate, show you how to find your way around, show you how to get help, and ultimately show you how WA will help you succeed within the online world.

Click the video below to start watching.

At any time if you have questions as you are watching the Wealthy Affiliate Walkthrough video, simply leave them in the comments section below the video and we will be more than happy to help you out. Remember, there is a TON of help available whenever you need it.

Task 2: Complete Your Account Set-up

Your next task is to set-up your Wealthy Affiliate account. Here is video walking you through the process it. It is fairly straightforward and only requires a few steps.

Setting up your Wealthy Affiliate profile only includes three items:

1. Adding a profile image (can be anything you want, including one of the default options)

2. Add a profile description. Again, you are in control. Share something about yourself, your interests, and perhaps why you are here at WA (and yoru goals online)

3. Set Goals. Set some "money" goals for yourself here at WA. This is going to be great for motivation moving forward, but also will naturally lead to much more achievement.

You can also edit your profile at any time, by going directly to your profile page.

This may seem very simple (and it is), but there are definite reasons that you are going to want to complete the account set-up process. Here are some benefits to setting up your account:

  • Leads to better networking within the community
  • Your “followers” within the community will go up at least 5x (in some cases)
  • People are more willing to help you if you have a profile
  • Adds a level of credibility within the community
  • Shows others that you are serious about SUCCESS

Immerse yourself within Wealthy Affiliate and you are going to experience a lot more success. It is a rare day within WA when you don’t get to brush shoulders with millionaire marketers hanging out within the community, so take this serious and make your profile (people’s first impression of you) a good one.

Goals are important for achievemenrt and success, so we recommend that you set these early on. And don't worry, as time goes on you can and likely will be setting new goals as you make progress!

One More Thing...

We want you to make us a promise today. We want you to give Wealthy Affiliate a chance first and foremost. We know that you may have had bad experiences online in the past and we want you to allow us to prove ourselves to you.

We care about YOU and we care about YOUR personal success more than you think.

Do we have a deal? :)

Again, we want to personally welcome you to the community and we look forward to helping you achieve success online, and far exceeding your expectations :)

Your friends,

Kyle & Carson

PS. When you are done your tasks, simply check them off below and then move onto the next lesson. And if you have any questions at all, please leave them in the comments below.

I want to do a niche about business. Starting my MBA soon and I own a brick and mortar business that pretty much runs itself. I want a niche on the lessons learnt studying an MBA or about how to get a business to run on autopilot, but I just don't know what exactly the niche would be.

Hi

You may consult with https://answersocrates.com/ for further research into finding a subcategory starting out. You can search what real people are asking as in Questions, Prepositions, Comparisons, in the past, letters and query. It is also great if someone wants to write a thorough research based article.

You can use Lifter LMS plugin on WordPress or view below resource https://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/best-wordpress-lms-plugins-compared/

Further info

A niche subject is something you are passionate and genuinely interested in could be a hobby or an interest, and know so well you can write plenty original content about.

ONE niche, a website. Products and programs can be varied however all must be relevant to the niche.

For example if you are in yoga
Yoga exercises for beginners

When deciding on a niche try narrow it down to a more specific niche, you can ask yourself the following question:

So I want to help people with ____________________ ?

Fill in the blank and you are going to get closer to a specific audience. Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

Once a site starts gaining traction, traffic and authority you can then scale to cover another subcategory.

See example blog post below Meanwhile I'd ask as many questions as I want to get clarifications,

Hi David & ntmu & warm welcome my dear.
My honest advice is to go with your passions.
Think ab like this:

A niche you chose from your passions and decide to write and write and write and never stop writing
If for instance you like/love cooking and gardening then these are your passions, go for it.
Some of the eldest/expert people here told me that in order to succeed and in order for Google to see you as an authority you must have been writing at least 20 articles for just 1 passion, eg. cooking.
you may want to see this hope this will help you decide
many blessing to you

So delighted to meet you. We are excited you found WA.
I'm just curious would your existing Brick and Mortar store benefit from a website to reach more people?

As for your business idea: how about something like small online business entrepreneur.

Since you have unlimited usage of Jaaxy, the keyword tool (find at menubar Research, why not enter some ideas and see if they give you an idea of who to choose a narrow niche that resonates with you.

Have more questions, please ask.

Hey guys. So my initial idea for a niche would be surfboards as it is my biggest interest and one of the things I understand more about. My biggest problem with it is that I know most surfboards are bought by talking directly and in person with the manufactures or through their websites as they are very specific and individual products. Also none of big platforms sell them.
Should I pursue this idea or maybe consider other routs?

Hi

That's a great niche to be in however broad you may want to narrow it down to a subcategory starting out/ however more related to the products you are wanting to promote on your site.
For example basic surfboards for beginners is a niche subject.

I try run a search on google see who does surfboards affiliate programs, you can look up corporate businesses and see if they run such a program, you'd find them bottom of their main sites.

You may want to look at below resource
https://3hundrd.com/surfing-affiliate-programs

You can do a google search
Your niche + affiliate programs
Your niche + affiliate programs + location
and see what results you get

Once a site starts gaining traction, traffic and authority you can then scale to cover another subcategory.

See example blog post below A niche subject is something you are passionate and genuinely interested in could be a hobby or an interest, and know so well you can write plenty original content about.

Great to meet you. I really like your niche.

Because a niche works best when you focus on a group of people you want to help, how about something like surfing essentials for beginners to start with. Then as you gain a following you can expend th4e scope The website Abie referenced below has some affiliate ideas 3hundered dot com

A niche is something you feel super excited to write about, a skill you have attained, something that resonates with you. You will want to be focused on one niche. What is it that you want to help a group of people with or what problem do you want to help them solve (group could be age, gender, location, experience level, degree or type of need, etc.)

Why should you narrow your niche?
The key to getting started fast is to narrow your niche down to a specific topic. This way, you will eliminate a lot of competition and get results much faster.

Have more questions, just ask,

We wish you much success.

I am confused about setting up my website, and which platforms it will show up on. Facebook? Google? Also today I purchased Connect Explore to maximize my target audience which was expensive. Do I keep it? Can I use it with what I’m doing with my website with Wealthy Affiliate?

Hi ... When your website is first created, you will have to wait for google to find it. This is called indexing.

Later on you can maximize your exposure by adding the site to social media. This can be done in the Social tab within your AIO SEO plugin or you can use a separate social media plugin such as Sassy Social. This process will come later in Level 3 of the training.

I do not have any experience with Connect Explore so I can't offer any insight into that aspect of your question. I think you might be getting a little ahead of yourself with this however, since it all starts with creating the site and building it out with lots of helpful, unique content to start the process of ranking and drawing in traffic to the site.

Just continue to follow the training and take it one step at a time. This is a long term commitment and as such it takes a lot of time and work to get a new site off the ground. Baby steps and you'll get there :)

Best of luck to you moving forward!

Just click the magnifying glass in the top right menu; and in the search bar; put in Kyle.

After that; do the same for Carson too.

For sure they can help.

I have been told they can be busy; so it is best to ask both.

Your website is very important because it is something you own and can control. Yes, you can use other social media but the rules and usage can change. So that's why it is important to focus on you website and make it the greatest source of information there in on the internet for your niche.

Hi

In respect to your Connect Explore, you'd have to decide whether you are wanting it or not, however it is not a requirement having glanced a bit of a review

https://socialleadfreak.com/connect-explore-review/

These features are found within Facebook Advertising platform and your campaigns need be testing, so you run a campaign, check it twice a day and study stats, then you make out a subset of the campaign whereby you choose a different search criteria based on your findings in your first campaign and run it again, process repeats itself, till you find a sweet spot you can leverage and scale.

Connect Explore believe connects to Facebook through an API. You can instead open a Facebook Business account and run an ad account.

Hi

Please see below resource how to Your site once build goes online and global. You would have figured out a niche before you set it up, it is very important to start out with a siterubix subdomain till you are completely figured out you niche, as once you register a dot com domain, and the odd occasion you changed your mind, you will not be able change the URL.

Some info how to go about a niche

A niche subject is something you are passionate and genuinely interested in could be a hobby or an interest, and know so well you can write plenty original content about.

Soon it will get indexed by Google, it means it was found and time now to start adding content to your site.

Onward

You would have written 20 - 30 posts and have some traffic to be able apply for affiliate programs as typically they will check your site for relevance and traffic prior approval.

For Amazon it is 10 - 15 posts.

Once accepted, they've given you material and special tracking code links you can share on your site.

Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

Once they do, and in accordance with your affiliation terms and conditions, how commission payouts are tracked and paid. You need to read up how payments are made because different programs follow different rules; some pay by check others via PayPal or straight to your check account.

I would always adhere to your affiliate program terms and conditions.

Once you publish a post you can share it onward to social media platform like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram etc. Now not all social media platforms would suffice, you are wanting know your audience well and their hangouts so that you target them appropriately

You may use Sassy Social plugin for this purpose In the first instance,

Please follow the training and apply what is taught all is explained within the lessons. How much minimum time requires to build a website??
Reply
jghwebbrand Premium
The technical website build is done by software and takes 30 seconds. Its adding the content posts that takes time. It is suggested that 2 -3 posts be written and published per week. The minimum length should be 1000 words. So that will give you some idea how long it may take if you have an authority site with 100 posts.

The training recommends one niche per website. I think that approach works very well for a few reasons. 1 you are not overloading your visitors/potential buyers with info; and making it difficult for them to narrow down their search as well. 2) I think focusing on one area you really care about keeps you active and learning at the same time.

Just my opinion of course ;) And I'm still pretty new. But there's a lot of wonderful people here to help you reach your own best potential (= successful yay!!).
Best wishes! Hope you continue...I'm sure you'll do well!

Hi

Real reason so that you not confuse Google or your visitors. And also when writing original content with low competition keywords to help being noticed by the search engines. You are wanting your site to start gaining traction, traffic and eventually authority.

Thanks for your great thoughts here.
Yes, it is important to keep a website focused on one niche. Visitors search for something specific and are excited when they find so much helpful information on one site.

Like the way you are thinking and processing what you are learning.

Like you said, I agree so much!!

But I'm finding kind of difficult to focus on just one niche, although it would definitely be beneficial.

I still haven't started my website yet, I just started the training, so hopefully once I have a better knowledge about this field, I can focus on one niche and get started.

Wish you the best luck, Keep it Up!!!!

I'm thinking I'd like my niche to be in mindfulness or meditation. I meditate regularly myself, but I'd like to help others find meditation programs that suit their needs.

So would my niche just simply be online meditation programs?

What about books instead of programs? Is that a viable niche?

I'm trying not to think too hard about the content I'd create around the subject... because I'm not an expert!

Great niche idea!
Now if you can define the group of people you want to share mediation with that you be best. For example Mediation resources for beginners or something like that. You can refer both books and course.

Alright, so how about...

A group of people looking for 'meditation journals'.

My niche would then be meditation journals?
Reply

There are lots of things which could work for that niche. In addition to programs, you can do things like mats, journals, music (like flute music - very relaxing), essential oils, comfortable clothing to meditate in, etc. So yes, that niche could easily work.

You know what: I am just going to say; try to pick a Niche as Broad as possible. This is my suggestion.

That way; you would have a bigger audience. You would have more potential Customers. And you would be able to help more potential Customers.

So, I am just suggesting; have a Niche as broad as possible. Not only all that; but some Members have complained to me in the past; they run out of topics to make new posts about.

Hope this helps and encourages?
