Lesson 1, Getting Rolling!

First off, we would like to personally welcome you to Wealthy Affiliate. I am Kyle, co-founder of Wealthy Affiliate and I am going to be the one walking you through the training and the process of building a successful business online.

Carson, the other co-founder works more with the technical team (close to 30 full-time employees) so you will see a bit less of him, although he is still very much active here within the community every day.

Here is a photo of us and our families below (me and my family on LEFT, Carson and family on RIGHT). :)

Our goal in the early stages here is EARN your trust and help you get moving in the right direction with your business. We realize that the industry is full of companies that are not all that trustworthy and it has been our mission over the past 16 years to do things differently. Wealthy Affiliate has been around since 2005, and during this 16 year period we have helped close to 2.3 MILLION people during this time!

The community here is full of amazing people, with a lot of expertise. I know you are going to quickly realize that. In fact, you are going to be able to tap into this knowledge an expertise at any point as you move forward in the training.

I assure you that you have definitely made the right choice in joining the community here at Wealthy Affiliate, you are going to love it here and you are going to quickly realize we care about YOU and your success online!

In the coming days and weeks we are going to be showing you how online success works and we will help you realize your own potential within the Internet space to earn revenue and leverage the internet to grow a business.

Before we continue, we want to point out a few important things:

(1) Anyone Can Accomplish Success Online. There are now over 4.75 BILLION people using the Internet, regardless of the direction you head online there is a very large number of people there that you can connect with and leverage to create a business online. Members here at WA succeed at the highest rate out of any platform online!

(2) Anything NEW Can "Appear" to be Overwhelming at First. Like riding a bike, it is normal to feel overwhelmed and even "fall" a few times when getting rolling. Don't worry, you will quickly get the hang of things! Stick with Wealthy Affiliate and you will achieve, and far exceed your goals. We teach what works.

(3) No Technical or Prior Online Business Experience Required. If you have experience that is great, but it is definitely not a requirement here at Wealthy Affiliate. Everything related to online business can be learned here within your membership and you definitely do not need to be a "techie".

(4) Success is a Journey. Success is very cumulative by design. This means that everything you do now, and every step you take will contribute towards your personal success in the future. An exciting journey does lie ahead and the effort you put forth now will pay off later and often times forever!

A Quick Look at How YOU Will Be Creating Success.

Success online is very simple at it's core. There is a 4-step business building process that you are going to be learning here at Wealthy Affiliate. Here is a quick diagram breaking down the process.

Broken, down, the process looks like this:

Step 1: Choose an Interest. This can be anything at all, any interest, passion or even something you have no personal experience with.

Step 2: Build a Website. Your website is your foundation and we have the most sophisticated and feature rich website and hosting platform here at Wealthy Affiliate.

Step 3: Attract Visitors. You are going to be learning all about how to get traffic and visitors to your website. The first focus is FREE traffic and there is A LOT of it out there.

Step 4: Earn Revenue. Once you have people on your site and traffic, you can earn revenue. There are over 50 ways you can monetize traffic online, and over 550 MILLION products/services that you can promote as an affiliate.

As you go through the training, this is going to be covered in detail. As mentioned, absolutely EVERYTHING you need is here at WA to facilitate this process! It is a true "earn while you learn" environment.

Before we go any further...

We want to give you two simple pieces of advice within the Wealthy Affiliate community.

Piece of Advice #1: Do not be afraid to ask questions! There are 100,000's of people here within WA at any given moment and many, MANY experts. If you need help, please ask! Go to the dashboard and leave a question, or you can contact me directly here.

PS. Carson and I (Kyle) help people all day, so don't be afraid to reach out to me even if it is to say "hi".

Piece of Advice #2: Take action on what you learn! Action leads to success. You could read and watch the training until you are blue in the face, but if you never take action on it you won't achieve any success.

We don’t want to put any pressure on you and definitely do not want to overwhelm you as you get started, so we are going to give you three simple tasks to perform (as noted below). Spend a few minutes today and complete these tasks! :)

You are currently reading lesson 1 of a 10 lesson Getting Started course. This course is going to step you through the process of getting started. It will answer all of the questions that you have about earning money on the Internet, and will reveal exactly how to do it.

If you ever need to get back to your training, simply click the Training tab in the upper menu. This "smart" button will always take you back to your last completed task and you will also see your progress through the training.

Click the "Continue Here" to get back into your training at any time.

Your Current Tasks :)

In this Lesson you will become involved and immersed within the awesome community here at Wealthy Affiliate. We are a community that cares about your success, and one where you will create wonderful relationships within the industry. You will soon learn that you can SUPERCHARGE your learning and ultimately, your success by being active in the community, and immersing yourself.

This starts with uploading a picture, adding a few words about yourself in your profile description, and getting involved in a live chat with others. These tiny steps are referred to as your "Account Setup" tasks which we will discuss below in a little more detail.

Right now, there is no reason to delay your training, let's get started with your Tasks for today.

Task 1: Watch The Walk Through Video Below

Your first task today is to watch the "Wealthy Affiliate Walkthrough - How YOU Can Benefit From WA" video. This video will walk you through Wealthy Affiliate, show you how to find your way around, show you how to get help, and ultimately show you how WA will help you succeed within the online world.

Click the video below to start watching.

At any time if you have questions as you are watching the Wealthy Affiliate Walkthrough video, simply leave them in the comments section below the video and we will be more than happy to help you out. Remember, there is a TON of help available whenever you need it.

Task 2: Complete Your Account Set-up

Your next task is to set-up your Wealthy Affiliate account. Here is video walking you through the process it. It is fairly straightforward and only requires a few steps.

Setting up your Wealthy Affiliate profile only includes three items:

1. Adding a profile image (can be anything you want, including one of the default options)

2. Add a profile description. Again, you are in control. Share something about yourself, your interests, and perhaps why you are here at WA (and your goals online)

3. Set Goals. Set some "money" goals for yourself here at WA. This is going to be great for motivation moving forward, but also will naturally lead to much more achievement.

You can also edit your profile at any time, by going directly to your profile page.

This may seem very simple (and it is), but there are definite reasons that you are going to want to complete the account set-up process. Here are some benefits to setting up your account:

  • Leads to better networking within the community
  • Your “followers” within the community will go up at least 5x (in some cases)
  • People are more willing to help you if you have a profile
  • Adds a level of credibility within the community
  • Shows others that you are serious about SUCCESS

Immerse yourself within Wealthy Affiliate and you are going to experience a lot more success. It is a rare day within WA when you don’t get to brush shoulders with millionaire marketers hanging out within the community, so take this serious and make your profile (people’s first impression of you) a good one.

Goals are important for achievement and success, so we recommend that you set these early on. And don't worry, as time goes on you can and likely will be setting new goals as you make progress!

One More Thing...

We want you to make us a promise today. We want you to give Wealthy Affiliate a chance first and foremost. We know that you may have had bad experiences online in the past and we want you to allow us to prove ourselves to you.

We care about YOU and we care about YOUR personal success more than you think.

Do we have a deal? :)

Again, we want to personally welcome you to the community and we look forward to helping you achieve success online, and far exceeding your expectations :)

Your friends,

Kyle & Carson

PS. When you are done your tasks, simply check them off below and then move onto the next lesson. And if you have any questions at all, please leave them in the comments below.

In the next lesson we are going to be talking all about Making Money! :)

Tasks 0/3 completed

Hi

Top of your browser, you have Home, training, websites, classes , RESEARCH, promote, publish and Help.

WA dashboard

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/home

Direct link

https://my.jaaxy.com/search/keywords

You can change your theme anytime you like, your content would remain intact. You may lose out on some CSS styles and social media icons, a bit of tweaking and you are done.

You also need a back up theme, you may do with the TwentyTwentOne.

It is a good practice to always back up site before doing major changes, you can use the AIO WP Migration or Updraft plugins. UpdraftPlus is a premium and highly recommended.

With free WordPress themes, it is blank canvas when installed and therefore as not displayed when first viewed. If you edit in site content, you can always click the highlighted mountain button to access images or if you edit directly in WordPress, you may see below resource

Hi - when looking at a theme, it is a demo, it doesn't come with the images. It just shows you how it could look after you have customised it yourself.

Look for searches (avg.) above 30 and competition (qsr. ) lower than 100, the lower the qsr the better. Starter sites SEO greater than 95.

For your choice of keywords, always do an incognito search on Google before settling on a keyword, to see who appears in the top 3 positions.

Or you may do in Jaaxy tool search analysis

Theme images are not always included with the theme installation and activation. Sooner or later you will need to learn how to get your own free images online.
Free images can be found at Site Content in WA, http://Unsplash.com and even http://bing.com/images click on right side tab filter then choose license Free to use and share commercially.

You can change your theme at any time without loosing content.
The key to choosing a theme is not the images, but the layout and features. (how many heeder meus, footer menus, footer columns and so forth.

One way to learn more about a theme of interest is to do a browser search theme name demo.

If URL siterubix subdomain, you can delete and start again, however I’d save my work in site content.

To delete click on details on siterubix, onward next page scroll all the way to the bottom, and click delete. Then gain to the site builder, choose a free domain, enter credentials and follow procedure.

If title and tagline (Just another WordPress site), settings > general edit and save changes.

Here are some things you can try,.
Your site title appears two different places.
Check your WordPress Back Office scroll down on left hand side see Settings -> General Change site title and site tag line there. Save your changes.

Also WordPress Back Office -> appearance -> customizer -> site identify (or something like that) -: site site title and site tag line there. Publish your changes.

And WordPress Back Office -> appearance -> customizer -> menus check the name of you page or post in you menu items and change if necessary.

Hi all,
I just finished reading about coming up with a niche. I have something in mind, in fact many! My question is, do I need only one website for all the niches or one for each? And, what if I start with one niche, and I want to be in another niche? Ok, I think I'm being confusing here. So if I decide on a niche and build the website around it, then follow the drill to the end, can I pick another niche and promote it as well, so I'll have two niches running and so on?

Hi

ONE niche, a website. Products and programs can be varied however all must be relevant to the niche.

You need aim for ONE focused niche with a specific group of people, I'd go with what's best resonates with me.

The recommendation is to focus on ONE site starting out as it takes lots of effort and work get it going, however once you know what you are doing, then the learning curve would be less steeper to scale up.

You'd want to narrow it down to a subcategory starting out, otherwise you will find it very hard to get noticed by the search engines and to compete with big authority sites. Target audience is important too, who would you be writing to, once you are able to identify them, you are closer to finding a focused niche.

Once a site starts gaining traction, traffic and authority you can then scale to cover another subcategory.

See example blog post below A niche subject is something you are passionate and genuinely interested in could be a hobby or an interest, and know so well you can write plenty original content about.

You may consult with https://answersocrates.com/ for further research into finding a subcategory starting out. You can search what real people are asking as in Questions, Prepositions, Comparisons, in the past, letters and query. It is also great if someone wants to write a thorough research based article.

For example if you are in yoga
Yoga exercises for beginners

When deciding on a niche try narrow it down to a more specific niche, you can ask yourself the following question:

So I want to help people with ____________________ ?

Fill in the blank aand you are going to get closer to a specific audience. Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

You site need be ready before you apply for affiliate programs

You would have written 20 - 30 posts and have some traffic to be able apply for affiliate programs as typically they will check your site for relevance and traffic prior approval.

For Amazon it is 10 - 15 posts. You also would have to make 3 sales in your first 180 days.

Lucrative programs - 40 posts +

Once accepted, they've given you material and special tracking code links you can share on your site.

Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

Once they do, and in accordance with your affiliation terms and conditions, how commission payouts are tracked and paid. You need to read up how payments are made because different programs follow different rules; some pay by check others via PayPal or straight to your check account.

I would always adhere to your affiliate program terms and conditions.

As Abie has stated it is one niche per website. Each website needs its own niche so it ranks well. When you have one niche per website and your content is all about your niche it can be come an authority site for your chosen niche. The most niche related into your site has the better it will rank provided your content is unique.

When you first start it takes time to learn things, do research and write content so it is recommended you focus on one niche initially. In fact it is possible to earn a full time income from one niche website alone. so there is great potential.

Make it your goal to create an outstanding niche website.. Things start slow, but when they get going, sites can do very well.

Since you are just beginning your niche, here are some niche tips.

A niche is something you feel super excited to write about, a skill you have attained, something that resonates with you. You will want to be focused on one niche. What is it that you want to help a group of people with or what problem do you want to help them solve (group could be age, gender, location, experience level, degree or type of need, etc.)

A niche is not a product, it's a subject that you can help a target audience with. Remember, you are not setting up a shop (store), you will be writing lots of articles about your niche to help your targeted audience.

The importance of a targeted audience is that It's always better to target a specific niche with a specific solution to problems.

Kyles asks us to complete this statement.
'i want to help ____(group) with ______(problem)'

For example. I like camping and what to help campers buy the right equipment to make their camping experience more pleasant and safe.

Camping is a very broad topic with a lot of competition so to eliminate some competition in the beginning so the website has a chance to grow, the focus needs to be a smaller scope. For example essential camping equipment for beginners. Once the website is established and has a good volume, its scope can be expanded to include other things camping related. This is just an example.

Hi all!

Quick question. I like a few different themes, but it's hard for me to narrow it down to just one. If I build on one theme and decide later on that I want to switch themes, can I convert my already built website to a new theme relatively easily?

Thanks!

You can change your theme at any time, you content will be left intact. However as you progress it would be favorable to always back up site before you do major changes.

Keep in mind Site Support does daily back up of our sites.

You can use AIO WP Migration and Updraft plugins. UpdraftPlus is a premium and highly recommended.

We also always recommend leaving a back up you may do with the Twenty TwentyOne.

you can change ...you will need to change a few things...
designers don't call things by the same name....
but you can create a copy of your main site ( staging site) and work on that without any effect on your main site...
so no interruptions to your visitors.....
try the themes out on test sites and see which you like...

Yes, it is very easy to install and activate another WP theme. You will not loose your content of images. You may have to make a few setting changes in WP backoffice scroll down on left hand side find Appearance -> customizer (the heading layout, topography or some minor things may need to be changed.

If your free siterubix.com website can be used, you could have Sitesupport COPY (NOT MOVE) your dot com website to your free siterubix.com website and try themes there and see what changes.

Hi, I have a question about choosing a niche. I am unclear as to the number of niche’s we can have. I’m guessing since it is my business as many as I feel can be managed. Do we pick a general topic and then set up our website with all of the products types within that niche on the one site or are we having to pick say dog food only if I am wanting to work with animal products? Then there is the question do we only pick one niche? I wanted to work with animals, art, and kids products.

Thanks for your help!

You have three niches here. Start with only one because there is a lot of research, time and writing necessary to make your niche website become an authority site.

All three of your niches are too broad to start. it is important to narrow them down.

Which one of your 3 niches are you most passionate about, know the most about, and can help people the most? Which one makes it easy to help and solve problems? Those are the niche websites that gain traffic easiest because people search the internet for help. So it is recommended y6ou start with one niche and it is one niche per website.

Here are some general niche tips to help you refine your niche.

A niche is something you feel super excited to write about, a skill you have attained, something that resonates with you. You will want to be focused on one niche.
