Lesson 1, Getting Rolling!

First off, we would like to personally welcome you to Wealthy Affiliate. I am Kyle, co-founder of Wealthy Affiliate and I am going to be the one walking you through the training and the process of building a successful business online.

Carson, the other co-founder works more with the technical team (close to 30 people) so you will see a bit less of him, although he is still very much active here within the community every day.

Here is a photo of us and our families below (me and my family on LEFT, Carson and family on RIGHT). :)

Our goal in the early stages here is EARN your trust. We realize that the industry is full of companies that are not all that trustworthy and it has been our mission over the past 14 years to do things differently. Wealthy Affiliate has been around since 2005, and during this 14 year period we have helped close to 1.7 MILLION people during this time!

The community here is full of amazing people, with a lot of expertise. I know you are going to quickly realize that. In fact, you are going to be able to tap into this knowledge an expertise at any point as you move forward in the training.

I assure you that you have definitely made the right choice in joining the community here at Wealthy Affiliate, you are going to love it here and you are going to quickly realize we care about YOU and your success online!

In the coming days and weeks we are going to be showing you how online success works and we will help you realize your own potential within the Internet space to earn revenue and leverage the internet to grow a business.

Before we continue, we want to point out a few important things:

(1) Anyone Can Accomplish Success Online. There are now over 4 BILLION people using the Internet, regardless of the direction you head online there is a very large number of people there that you can connect with and leverage to create a business online. Members here at WA succeed at the highest rate out of any platform online!

(2) Anything NEW Can "Appear" to be Overwhelming at First. Like riding a bike, it is normal to feel overwhelmed and even "fall" a few times when getting rolling. Don't worry, you will quickly get the hang of things! Stick with Wealthy Affiliate and you will achieve, and far exceed your goals.

(3) No Technical or Prior Online Business Experience Required. If you have experience that is great, but it is definitely not a requirement here at Wealthy Affiliate. Everything related to online business can be learned here within your membership and you definitely do not need to be a "techie".

(4) Success is a Journey. Success is very cumulative by design. This means that everything you do now, and every step you take will contribute towards your personal success in the future. An exciting journey does lie ahead and the effort you put forth now will pay off later and often times forever!

A Quick Look at How YOU Will Be Creating Success

Success online is at the core a 4 step process nothing more complex than this and this is exactly what you are going to be learning here at Wealthy Affiliate. Here is a quick diagram breaking down the process.

Broken, down, the process looks like this:

Step 1: Choose an Interest. This can be anything at all, any interest, passion or even something you have no personal experience with.

Step 2: Build a Website. Your website is your foundation and we have the most sophisticated and feature rich website and hosting platform here at Wealthy Affiliate in SiteRubix.

Step 3: Attract Visitors. You are going to be learning all about how to get traffic and visitors to your website. The first focus is FREE traffic and there is A LOT of it out there.

Step 4: Earn Revenue. Once you have people on your site and traffic, you can earn revenue. There are over 50 ways you can monetize traffic online!

As you go through the training, this is going to be covered in detail. As mentioned, absolutely EVERYTHING you need is here at WA to facilitate this process!

Before we go any further...

We want to give you two simple pieces of advice within the Wealthy Affiliate community.

Piece of Advice #1: Do not be afraid to ask questions! There is 100,000's of people here within WA and many, MANY experts. You need help, please ask!

Piece of Advice #2: Take action on what you learn! Action leads to success. You could read and watch the training until you are blue in the face, but if you never take action on it you won't achieve any success.

We don’t want to put any pressure on you and definitely do not want to overwhelm you as you get started, so we are going to give you three simple tasks to perform (as noted below). Spend a few minutes today and complete these tasks! :)

You are currently reading lesson 1 of a 10 lesson Getting Started Course. This course is going to step you through the process of getting started. It will answer all of the questions that you have about earning money on the Internet, and will reveal exactly how to do it.

If you ever need to get back to your training, simply click the Get Started Here button within the side menu. This "smart" button will always take you back to your last completed task and you will also see your progress through the training.

Click the "You Are Here" to get back into your training at any time.

Your Current Tasks :)

In this Lesson you will become involved and immersed within the awesome community at Wealthy Affiliate. This is a community that cares about your success, and one where you will create wonderful relationships within the industry. You will soon learn that you can SUPERCHARGE your learning and ultimately, your success by being active in the community, and immersing yourself.

This starts with uploading a picture, adding a few words about yourself in your profile description, and getting involved in a live chat with others. These tiny steps are referred to as your "Account Setup" tasks which we will discuss below in a little more detail.

Right now, there is no reason to delay your training, let's get started with your Tasks for today.

Task 1: Watch The Walk Through Video Below

Your first task today is to watch the Wealthy Affiliate Walk-through video. This video will walk you through Wealthy Affiliate, show you how to find your way around, show you how to get help, and ultimately show you how WA will help you succeed within the online world.

DISCUSS VIDEO: Wealthy Affiliate - A Comprehensive Platform Walk-through

At any time if you have questions as you are watching the Wealthy Affiliate Walkthrough video, simply leave them in the comments section below the video and we will be more than happy to help you out. Remember, there is a TON of help available whenever you need it.

Task 2: Complete Your Account Set-up

Your final task for today is to set-up your Wealthy Affiliate account. I have created a quick video walk-through showing you how to set-up your account:

DISCUSS VIDEO: Completing Your Account Setup (It's EASY)

Setting up your Wealthy Affiliate account only includes two items:

(1) Adding a profile image (can be anything you want)
(2) Adding a personal description

This may seem very simple (and it is), but there are definite reasons that you are going to want to complete the account set-up process. Here are some benefits to setting up your account:

  • Leads to better networking within the community
  • Your “followers” within the community will go up at least 5x (in some cases)
  • People are more willing to help you if you have a profile
  • Adds a level of credibility within the community
  • Shows others that you are serious about SUCCESS

Immerse yourself within Wealthy Affiliate and you are going to experience a lot more success. It is a rare day within WA when you don’t get to brush shoulders with millionaire marketers hanging out within the community, so take this serious and make your profile (people’s first impression of you) a good one.

Task #3: Understand Your Membership

If you joined for FREE, you currently have a Starter membership . This is the starting point of your success online. You get a good deal of access with the Starter level membership, but you need to know that there is MUCH MORE to be found at WA.

There are huge benefits to going premium when you are ready. Your last task for today is to take a second to learn about our Premium membership and how it differs from the Starter program.

Get All of the "Juicy" Details About Premium Here!

You are in good hands here at Wealthy Affiliate regardless of whether you are Starter or Premium.

Make us a Promise OK?

We want you to make us a promise today. We want you to give Wealthy Affiliate a chance first and foremost. We know that you may have had bad experiences online in the past and we want you to allow us to prove ourselves to you.

We care about YOU and we care about YOUR personal success more than you think.

Do we have a deal? :)

Again, we want to personally welcome you to the community and we look forward to helping you achieve success online, and far exceeding your expectations :)

Your friends,

Kyle & Carson

PS. When you are done your tasks, simply check them off below and then move onto the next lesson.

In the next lesson we are going to be talking all about Making Money! :)

Tasks 0/3 completed

Hello,
Sorry, I am lost. On Tuesday, I watched the video "Choosing a Direction". When the video finished, i assumed I would choose a niche, but I can not see where I do this? I thought I would click on something with the mouse or type my choice of a niche somewhere. But I don't see anything, only the Wealthy Affiliate niche. When I click on that, I am in the Bootcamp.
Can somebody help and instruct me what to do next? Thanks.
I'll be back Saturday morning to try again.

Hi - you don't pick your niche from a list, you have to think of one yourself. It should be something you are passionate about, as you will be writing a lot of content about it, and wouldn't want to be bored.

You don't type it anywhere, just keep the idea in your head, ready for when you build your website in Lesson 4.

Hi Diane,

Thanks very much. I already have a niche in mind and I'll back Saturday morning to get rolling.

Hi guys, I’m looking for opinions on my niche

So I’m passionate about fashion, formal wear to be specific
You know the toastmaster/Jamesbond kinda dressing

So the aim would be to make it like the complete thing, so for instance the suit, shirt, tie, shoe, formal coats and the like
(Of cause one one would be looking for one item say a shirt only)

I know most people are often switching to casual these days but there are a few classic men and women out there who are still fond of the dressing like me, maybe for work or descent occasions

What do you guys think?

Hi, I'm new here but I think your Niche is very big yet. You need to refine some more. Use the Jaaxy tool for this. Why even if you like your niche and have a lot of it on the internet, your work can be in vain. Or take too long to achieve your goals.
One tip for your niche would be. Striped Suit for Wedding Patches. Do you understand what I mean?

Thanks for that

Hi Jimmy, your niche is amazing, I have a suggestion, since its a very broad niche, why don't you start with formal wear for ether for men or for women, and then as time goes by and your website gains authority, you can add other things.

I think you could create content advising people how to put a certain look together, but when you link products you could link them separately, like shirts ties and shoes.

It's a great niche that's for sure, and especially if you think you can find ideas for great content.

All the best

I would appreciate opinions on a niche idea.

I have become a total fan of a little known pair of mystery authors. They have a series (I own all of it). There is also 3 or 4 smaller series on the side. Characters from one series keep appearing in the other ones. A deep sense of family emerges and you rapidly become involved in all that these two masters write.
I have read other authors and none can create a sense of mystery, depth of characters, always bringing some fantastic bit of history to the present scene and unexpected twist of plot.
Could I promote these author's work?
Reply
adreyna Premium
Certainly - that's a very interesting niche idea.
Reply
SnazzyIT Premium
Definitely, you can have a masters of suspense site, where you can review their books and any other authors.
Your niche could be focused on book reviewing and writers pay you to review their work, although you focus on the two authors.

You can come up with some cool site names.
Reply
J-KWest Premium
Yes, you can absolutely promote their work. You do want to make sure there is an audience searching for their work though.

There are two sides of your niche you need to consider though. The topic/niche itself and also the audience.

Then you want to think about what kind of problem you can solve. This is important. People are happy to spend money when you are solving their problem, but not so much if you're just entertaining them or trying to convince/sell them something.

And when I say solving problems I don't mean curing a disease. A problem can be as simple as someone who loves to read mysteries but hasn't been able to find the right author or series that resonates with them.

So if you're promoting authors or books, the key is in understanding your audience and being able give them what they want.

And "promoting" isn't always the best word to use because in some ways it implies "convincing"... and the last thing you want to do is find yourself trying to convince your audience to do or buy something.

You want to find an audience who already needs or is looking for the exact thing those authors/books can provide. And of course this applies to any niche.

Along the way you'll end up convincing people anyway, but your energy is far better spent targeting the right audience in the first place (which you would do by choosing keywords that represent the searches of the audience you're looking for).

Hope that helps :-)

Thank you for the reply! Question: On my web site, must I list individual books or can I promote the authors/series and still get a commission on a sale? Can I have multiple stores on my site like Barns & Noble and Amazon?
Reply
Ropesa Premium
Absolutely, you can and you should because you sound like you are passionate about this.
Reply
J-KWest Premium
You could have multiple stores, but if you were using contextual links... links to your affiliate offers within your content, you would only choose one. And you'd want to choose the most popular.

At one time, and I'm not sure this is still accurate, but Amazon/Kindle had something like 70% of all online book sales, so you'd definitely want to stick with Amazon because most people already have an account with them.

For example, if I was reading a post that recommended a book I wanted to buy and I clicked a link which took me to Barnes & Noble, well... I've never bought a book from there before. We also don't have Barnes & Noble in Canada so I'd probably go off on my own and buy it from Amazon because I already have an account with Amazon and that's where I've bought books before.

In that situation the person who recommended the book would not earn a commission because I left the place they were recommending and went somewhere else to buy the book. I didn't leave Barnes & Noble because I didn't want that person to earn a commission (9 out of 10 people wouldn't even know a commission was being earned)... I left because it was far more convenient for me to buy the book from a place I already had an account and relationship with.

Now, if that article had just linked to Amazon in the first place (instead of Barnes & Noble) I would have landed on Amazon's site (which I'd probably be logged into automatically) and since my Amazon account already has my payment card and shipping address set up... buying the book would be single click away and the author (of the article) or website owner would earn that commission.

But there's more, because I may have been meaning to pick up a few other things from Amazon but just hadn't gotten around to it yet. Now that I'm there though I might order those things as well and the author/website owner would also earn commissions on those products (even though they weren't promoting them and their website had nothing to do with them).

So it's a bit of a numbers game. If Amazon has 70% marketshare, you'll get the commission 70% of the time someone buys a book using your affiliate link, plus anything else they buy from Amazon within a 24 hour period.

If your link is to Barnes & Noble and the remaining 30% marketshare is divided up by everyone else including the ibookstore, Google books, Indigo etc. Barnes & Noble might only have 10% marketshare. You'd then only earn commissions on 10% of the buyers who used your affiliate link with no opportunity of additional commissions from unrelated products.

There could be places on your site where you listed multiple stores but that would be too redundant to do for every mention of every book/author.

I have 2 questions. They are not about "niche" selection but I did not get started in the program correctly (I think!).

When I started and entered these chat rooms, I did not choose "Follow Me". How can I correct this?

Second: I have joined Premium membership. Will my monthly payments come out of my Visa automatically or do I have to pay each month? I want automatic withdrawal. Can someone help me here.

Thanks,
David

Hey David, I'm pretty sure your monthly payments come out automatically. I do mine annually through PayPal so I'm not 100% but pretty close... 99% :-D

As far as following, the follow me button is to follow individual members so if there was someone specific you wanted to follow you'll kind of have to back track to through those comments. In most cases you'll see those people post a comment again in another thread and you can follow them then.
Reply
SnazzyIT Premium
David you can click on those you didn't follow in your profile, just click your own image to go there. Once in your profile click on all the green follow me buttons you see. Secondly, you can adjust your sub payments in your account which can be accessed if you hover over your small image on the left hand side of your profile menu. Click on the account settings and follow the options.

Hello, WA team. I'm completely new in this world of affiliate marketing and I would like to know what do you think about create a niche related to self-development? It would be focused on "help young and not so young people to find their passions in life". I seriously want to create something useful and powerful linked to this niche. Thank you!
Reply
Kyle Premium
Don't worry Benjamin, we were all new to this at a point in time. For me that was 17 years ago, but the reality is that you are just as capable of building a business online as me or anyone else.

Self development is a trap niche, as is the "life coaching" niche. Whom do you want to help specifically, self develop what? Someone looking to develop better skills in their relationship with their spouse or someone looking to get over their fear of public speaking, or someone looking to......etc?

You need to narrow this down to something that is more specific.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Do not worry about being knew to this venture or any other venture. Sometimes that works out for the better because you have no preconceived notions about the whole process,so take what you learn and run with it. after all you are not alone.

Hi there,
I have a question about "Niche's.
Let's say that I have chosen make-up as my Niche, what happens when the make-up Niche is not successful? I know that things like this question will be covered throughout the courses but, will there be help with making the Niche that one has chosen get off the ground and running? Is there a partner Niche that can be done? I guess the "term" to use would be like either piggy backing ? or working with another person to earn revenue from the same Niche? I'm sure that these are silly questions but, I am always ready and willing to learn and absorb new information. I really want to learn how all this works and start a new journey for my kids and I. Thanks so much for taking the time to review and answer my questions.

Hi Rebecca,
I can't imagine make-up not being successful, lol. That's something that will never go away.
Why don't you narrow it down a little to start? Maybe something like make-up for older skin types etc. And when you've earned some authority there, you can expand into other skin types. And further, expand again into skincare etc.
The trick is to find a domain name that doesn't limit you to a small niche and lets you expand down the road.
There are millions of products that you can promote with affiliate links, so don't worry about sharing. This is your business and you deserve all the profits!
Make sense?

All niches can be made profitable/successful depending on if it is your passion or not.

If it is not something you see yourself doing for years to come, rather pick something else.

Once you get thoroughly set in the course work at WA, you'll learn how to make it successful and what you need (research etc.) to make it work.

A partner niche may work, but do not limit yourself to one specific topic. There are many unique niches that will pique your interest even though it doesn't appear so at first.
Reply
J-KWest Premium
Hi Becky, there's definitely a lot of money to be made in the make-up niche. A significant amount of money. You might find it's not the right niche for you and in those terms, it's possible that you don't find it to be successful, and that completely okay.

I think (although I haven't done the research) that the make-up niche would be a community niche.

For example, each niche has it's own unique traffic sources and I think you'll find a lot of the traffic coming to a site in the make-up niche will come from social media, sites like Pinterest and even YouTube if you decide to go that route in the future.

On a side note... you don't want to build your business on those platforms because they (those platforms) control all of your traffic, they make the rules and with a simple algorithm change people have lost their businesses overnight.

So you still want to follow the training here and then use those platforms as tools to help you drive traffic.

I owned a fashion site for awhile and I was shocked by the amount of traffic that came from those kinds of sources and the networking that goes on among people in that niche. It's a real community.

Now, I know absolutely nothing about fashion. It was a domain that I purchased and used as an outsourcing project so I hired writers. But it was difficult to maintain because I had people reaching out to me about a topic I knew nothing about and didn't really have the time to learn.

Which brings me to the main point I wanted to make...

It's not a big deal if you decide to change your niche.

I ended up changing that site to more of lifestyle blog but found that was just too broad of a niche and difficult to monetize. Eventually I shut it down, changed domain names, and started a new site.

Before that I had a site in the "benefits of good sleep" niche which I found difficult to write about (I liked the topic and thought it would be fun and helpful, but it was a lot of research and sourcing medical studies and journals).

Prior to that site (and finding WA) I had a blog that I wrote about the disruption of technology in our economy. Again, it was a difficult to get traction with that kind of topic and monetize it.

At one time I had 2 - 3 dozen different domain names and more than 10 sites in various stages of completion.

Each time I learned something new. Most of the time I learned what NOT to do, which is just as important as learning what you should do.

So... the moral of the story so to speak, is that it's okay if your first niche doesn't work out. You may find you can pivot to something similar. You might want to change completely. Or... maybe you find that it's the perfect niche for you.

I know at the time (because it felt that way to me too) that you're doing all this work and what if it doesn't work out. But that experience you're getting and the development of new skills are the very thing you need to succeed. Those are things that will make you an expert at this, and your skills and experience are what ultimately make you money online.

It's a critical part of the learning journey and finding what works for you. The goal isn't necessarily to knock it out of the park right away.

When we were young in school and later in our careers, mistakes were discouraged. As solo entrepreneurs though, mistakes are not mistakes... they are critical to our learning process and finding the path we were meant for.

I choose a niche, clean lifestyle for parents and now I see there are already lots of websites providing inspiration, selling products and services on this topic. And so now I feel stuck. I tried different topics that I am passionate about, and get the same results. I need some help and advice. Does this happen in many niches and should I just continue? Or should I focus on choosing something that is not so popular. I know Kyle talks about it in the video, but I realise I am getting stuck anyways. What are your thoughts and experiences?

Hi - to be fair, no matter which niche you choose, you are likely to find other websites covering the subject. That is why it is recommended that you narrow it down, so you can be seen as an authority and have less competition.

However, you are bringing your personal touch to the subject, your opinions and experience, that is the aspect readers will enjoy. Don't choose a niche because you think it will be more successful. Go with your instincts and let your enthusiasm shine through.

Hi - it is recommended that you don't try and follow both the training courses at the same time as they are quite in-depth, and you would need two separate websites. Trying to add content to two sites on a regular basis can be challenging and time-consuming.

Many people find it easier to start with their own niche, as it is easier to write about a subject you are passionate about.

The Bootcamp training concentrates on the money making online niche, and specifically, the promotion of WA. If you are new to marketing, trying to come up with articles on this subject can be difficult.

Of course, once you have completed one training, and have your website up and running, you can then switch to the other.

Your suggestions for your own niche are very broad, you would have to narrow it down. Health, in particular, is in the top three niches and is a competitive market.

When you become a Premium member, you can link to your websites and social media in the 'Follow me on' section on your profile page, in the right-hand sidebar at the very bottom.

You are not permitted to blatantly advertise your website using links anywhere else in Wealthy Affiliate.

If you are linking to something relevant and helpful to the community, then that is acceptable. You are linking to a website that is aimed at getting more traffic then that will be frowned upon, and you may lose posting rights within Wealthy Affiliate for a period.

Hi guys! I am new here and need some help, please.
I have one question. I already posted two articles on a blog created by myself on Wordpress. What would be best now? Continue there or start over here on this platform? What are the advantages and disadvantages? What would you recommend?
Thank you! Have a great day! :)

You don't have to use the website platform here if you don't want. You can use an existing site that you already have set-up with the training here or you can start fresh.

Sometimes with an existing site there may be some things that you have done in the past that could be hurting your rankings (backlinks, spun content, duplicate content, low quality content), so starting fresh and doing things properly from the start can be advantageous. But this is totally up to you.

Because your website is so fresh that you started, I would recommend that you consider starting over here and doing things correctly right from the ground up.

Either way, I am here to help you along the way Amalia!

Thank you so much, Kyle! Yes, I will start fresh over here. I have to say, I am very pleasantly surprised of all the support I already received in this community! It's exactly what I was looking for! Thank you! I appreciate it! :)

I joined a couple days ago and I'm a bit confused as to what the format of the website should look like. It sounds like it's going to be more of a blog... but I thought it was more of like a sales website so that people can purchase items through your link? Does anyone have a website I could look at as an example?
Reply
YvetteC2 Premium
Welcome to WA. It will all be explained as you go through the training. But an overview is your website is going to be several articles you write around your niche. The whole goal is as you continue to write consistent content using great keywords, you rank in search engines. The goal of ranking is to gain traffic. When you gain the traffic, you can become an affiliate for companies in your niche. At that point, you can start to post links in your articles. As your visitors read and click on your affiliate links to purchase items, you will obtain commissions from their purchases.

If you want to take a look at someone's site, go to their profile and look down the side under "Follow Me On". If their website is listed, (some people list their websites while others do not), you will see it there to click on and visit. I hope this information is helpful.

Kind regards,
Yvette

I have been writing for several clients who are Amazon Affiliates. I have written about nearly anything you can think of. I enjoy doing the research and writing the articles. I think it is time I was making more money by being an affiliate myself.

What I have in mind is a website with a title something like We Do the Research for You, and promote any product that receives a lot of interest online. I did a Google search and found humidifiers are an item currently receiving a lot of interest. I thought I would start with that.

Hi, thanks for this wonderful site you have! I just have a question before I create a website, when you talk about a niche, do I necessarily have to choose something that I can sell online or I can have a niche say about my passion, like sketching for example?
Reply
Mubs1 Premium
Passion niches are a good choice because you will never get bored of writing about them.

Just make sure there are people searching for stuff related to sketching (keyword research)

I'm pretty sure there's things related to sketching you could promote.

You could just make it an informational site and monetise it with ads.
Reply
You could try promoting markers! Or other sketch related stuff...
Reply
As the training video for understanding choosing your niche suggests, try searching for sketching and see what things are associated with it. Products like types of paper or drawing tools would probably be a great start. I'm sure many people love sketching and to do it you need supplies!

This might seem like a mundane question, but do you suppose it is possible to earn a little money as a starter member? I would love it if I could do that and then upgrade to premium.

And will the training be covering how to get affiliate offers and put up links?
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
Yes, that is all covered in the training. As far as making money as a starter member, it is possible -- others have done it -- but they typically came to WA with previous knowledge and experience. If you don't have any marketing experience or know how to work with WordPress, it would likely be difficult without the support of a premium membership. The first month is only $19, though, and that would give you plenty of time to check out the entire program and see if this is really for you. Hope this helps :-)

Hi Aqsa,

Thanks for your question.

Let me give you a comprehensive answer, alright?

Based on my vast experience and helping 1,000’s of people to get started, I can say the following:

It’s possible to make money with a Free Starter Account but it’s MUCH easier with a premium membership.

The reason is that with the premium membership you’ll get everything you need to make a life-changing income online:

1. Training
2. 24/7/365 Support
3. Expert Mentoring from Successful Online Entrepreneurs (Learn more here: )
4. All high-quality tools (Jaaxy, managed website hosting, SiteComments, etc.)
5. And more…

Another thing that I’ve often noticed is that people who are always just looking for freebies, aren’t really committed to succeed.

You may not be like that. But the fact is that most who only take the free will never succeed because they’re not willing to put in the work.

I’m paying myself for the premium membership and it makes me more than 100 times more than I put into it. Check out my post below: Summa Summarum:

Yes, you can make money with the free membership BUT

You’ll make it most likely much faster with a premium and earn much more.

That’s what I’ve learned over the years.

Feel free to ask me anything also in the future! I’m here to help you to succeed.

Also, if I absolutely HAVE to have a static page for the home keywords and description, is there any way to put my latest posts on my static page?

I am enjoying reading what the others are thinking of for their niche. I have been thinking about what my niche will be for a while. At first I too was leaning towards weight loss, or diet aids. I am almost 60 years old and have been blessed with good genes and up until 3 years ago I had no wrinkles. I am thinking about facial regimes for women of all ages. Is it feasible to begin with products for each age group (teens, 20’s,30’s, etc) or would that be overwhelming? I have other ideas too, so many choices, please tell me how do I choose?

I think that could be a good niche and the ages of the women could be part of the categories. Narrowing down a niche is important in that you can target specific products and the audience that would be interested in those products. Well, my profile is complete, I've gone through all the training, and my website is up. I can't find it on Google, but I suppose it's not going to immediately be on the front page! Either way, I'm happy with my niche- which is video games, something I love and know quite a bit about- and tomorrow I'm going to get affiliated with companies so I can start making some money while doing what I love: talking about video games! And potentially playing them for others on streams, after garnering some interest for my website, of course!

Hi - the next stage is to wait for Google to find your website. This is called indexing and can take anything from two days to two weeks. You will receive an email when this happens.

There is no point applying to affiliate programs yet because your website is not visible on the internet and therefore, they won't be able to inspect it to see if it is suitable.

Plus, most programs will expect to see a good amount of content on your site before they approve you. At this stage, you should be concentrating on writing articles.
Reply
Kyle Premium
Hey Gabriel,

It usually takes 7-14 days to get your site initially indexed in Google (sometimes quicker). That is completely normal.

As you build out your website content and as you get engagement on your website, it will only continue to get indexed quicker. Google will continue to grant you more and more authority as they deem your website to be of value and before long you will see your new content getting indexed almost instantly.

Just part of the process and you are absolutely heading in the right direction. :)

I figured as much. No biggie at all: it will give me plenty of time to update the site and make it look nice, as well as fill it out with information so that people take a look at all that I've got on there.

Thanks for the info! It is most certainly appreciated~

I am thinking about changing directions and maybe joining the affiliate bootcamp and to promote wealthy affiliate. I was wondering, if anyone has experience with this: how different is that from doing my own website and will I get the same amount of success in it or is it more limited in making commission?
Reply
Labman Premium
If you are just getting started, it will take much longer to rank a site in the MMO (Make money online) niche than in other niches. You should probably get a successful site in another niche before you tackle promoting WA. IMHO, others may disagree.
Reply
siamjerry Premium
It is a good idea, but only when you have had the necessary experience with your own website. Only after half a year experience I started bootcamp. The principles of the marketing are the same, however, at bootcamp you will be promoting one product only viz. WA. There is now way to forecast which website will give you the best profits, as this entirely depends on your personal choices and efforts.
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
Two questions:

1) Is affiliate marketing your true passion, or are you just looking at it because you think you can make money?

2) What experience and/or knowledge do you have about affiliate marketing in general?

If you "ooze" sales and marketing with every fiber of your being and you have the knowledge to share, then I say go for it. But if you are just doing it for the money, it's going to be a very tough road.

The make-money-online niche is extremely competitive, perhaps THE most competitive out there. And it will actually most likely take you longer than a hobby or interest site.

Don't worry about making commissions right now. You should be focused on finding your passion and creating content around it. The commission part comes later.

Look at it this way... you can have all the ads and affiliate links in the world, but if there is no one there to see them you still won't make a dime. Your only focus should be on building an audience.

Making money is (eventually) the easy part. What's hard is getting a steady stream of traffic. And for that, you need great content.

Yes, you might want to narrow it down to e.g. essential oils for acne or something similar. You will have competition as I am sure I recently commented on a post on essential oils. I do not see the need for multiple websites.

I think that might be okay.

I took the liberty of running a query using the Jaaxy research tool -- you'll learn how to do this as you continue with the training -- and even the base niche keywords (essential oils, aromatherapy and essential oils, etc.) all run pretty good numbers already. And I'm sure it will get even better as you narrow down to specific oils and other more detailed keywords.

Just keep working through the training and you'll be fine :-)

I think essential oils is good enough for a niche, but you could potentially narrow it down to a type of audience, like essential oils for cooking, essential oils for natural home remedies, or diffuser reviews.

Hi Danielle,

Would you mind sharing what idea did you have in mind for the niche? (You can private message me if you want). It's good to spend some time in deciding on your niche before you fully commit to it, so just that you are happy with the niche you've chosen.

Your niche should not be too broad but broad enough so that you can branch out and get good content ideas.
For example "Cars" would be a broad niche, even: "Sports cars" could be a broad niche. But something like: "How to Repair a car on your own" could be a good niche, because you could write about different parts of the car that could be repaired and you are setting a tone for your niche, which is repairing cars. However if you choose: "How to repair transmission for the car" - that could be too narrow because you can then only talk about transmissions and can quickly run out of ideas.

Just wanted to give you an idea. Let me know if this makes sense.

I have narrowed it down to 3 potential niches, they are kind of all over the place, lol:

1) Sneaker Culture
I love sneakers, probably too much. All accessories actually, sneakers, belts, jackets, hats...

2) Social Media Marketing
My main business is Web Design/Development but I have been wanting to move more to just doing Social Media Marketing anyway so this may be a good move, it will integrate my efforts here at WA with my main business.

3) Basketball
I love Basketball, but this Niche seems like it would be really difficult to work. What could I sell? I am not going to push sketchy how to get a 30" vertical videos, and I think trying to find and convert traffic for clothing sales at Nike etc. would be hella tough.

So now I plan to do some market research to see how viable these three options are and then choose from there.

**If anyone has experience in these or related niche's and would like to offer some input I would be grateful.

**If anyone can give me some guidance or tools to use to help in researching keywords etc. for these 3 niches to compare their viability that would also be awesome!

Thanks to all who took the time to read!

Cool set of niches, I think the Sneaker Culture one is interesting because people do love to shop around for those kind of shoes. In the UK we tend to call them trainers but folks will go quite a long way to find something unique.

SM marketing would probably be better and maybe and even though I'm no expert you'd be better off maybe looking into the Affiliate Bootcamp, though it depends on what you want focus on.

Even those who have a fair bit of know how have found this site to be enriching. All the best in what you plan to do :)

Any reason not (other than perhaps splitting focus and finding the time and energy to build both) to build both from the beginning? I'm thinking I would go through process as I continue to decide what niche I want to develop.

Stick with this... Gain experience with WA first, then at a later date if you decide you still want to promote WA after all, then setup another site (providing your initial one has gained momentum).

Hi - yes, you have 2 free websites which you can work on for up to 6 months.

It's not recommended to try and do both sets of training at the same time. They start off broadly the same, but then take off in different directions and get more in-depth.

Trying to apply each one to a different website can be challenging, and adding content to two sites at once is very time-consuming.

Decide which subject you would be more comfortable writing about - your own niche or money making online, with an emphasis on promoting WA.

Hi is it possible to pay the premium with my debit card or is it necessary to only use credit? I can't use my paypal as of the moment because it's not yet verified until 5 days. It won't be able to fit the 59% off the first 7 days because this is my second day already :(

Hi Essactlee,

Being a recent Premium Member myself, I also paid for the first month of the Premium Membership with my debit card and it worked perfectly.

Please let me know if it worked and welcome to Wealthy Affiliates!

Hi - unfortunately, I don't know how to resolve your problem, but please be aware that although the first month is only $19, from then on, it is $49 per month.

If you can't continue with the payment, then your account here is closed, you can't go back to being a free starter.

I do not think that there is a link between Western Union and PayPal. Can you open a bank account in Qatar and link it to a new Paypal account? Or perhaps contact Carson and Kyle directly? This situation sounds a little complicated ...

Thanks Christine, I would have but I can't because I don't have the right documentation to open a bank account here so, I guess I will have to miss out on premium until the day I get back home. Am so disappapointed though.

That's too bad ... I understand how difficult it can be to open accounts in other countries. I am also a foreigner where I live and although things have gotten easier over the years, some still aren't ...
For now there's still plenty you can do even when you're not premium yet, even if it's small consolation...
Ask Kyle directly and check with him if there's anything else you can do ... I think that would be the best option.

That video is very helpful... I have considered doing a miniature war gaming website as Warhammer 40k is one of my hobbies, I've not kept up with my work in it and wanted motivation to work in that field, writing about it and promoting it would be a good reason to pick up the paints again. I carried out a Google search and found there are several sites that offer commissions in that niche. Here in the UK there is a lot of growth in miniature war-gaming, it breaks out in to historical, fantasy and future genres. It's important to work on something where you have excitement for, cause if it's not fun, it won't be enjoyable. I think it could be win win.

Also regarding Affiliate Bootcamp, considering how much this site has enriched me in just few days, I'd happily promote it out of gratitude :)

Both could be viable directions for your niche. Focus on just ONE website and create success with that before diversifying and creating multiple niche websites.

It only takes ONE website in one niche to be very successful online. I usually find that folks that try to do too much at once (focus on several niche websites) end up in a state of mediocrity because it can be overwhelming and you don't really ever become the expert in just one niche.

It is the experts (specialists) that create long term, successful businesses in any niche.

So what happens when someone clicks on a link but doesn’t immediately buy it? I buy everything from amazon through their app. So if something were recommended, I would go the app and not click on the link to buy. Or I might click on the link but buy later via the app. Do you only make money when someone clicks on the link and buys right then and there?
Reply
ChristineDu1 Premium
When someone clicks on your link and buys, you get a commission, because your website code is in the link. If the reader leaves the website and buys via the Amazon app, then you can't make money, because he/she is not using your link.

If someone clicks on your link and doesn't buy, but clicks through to another product on Amazon, you can still get a commission (again, your code is in the link)

Thanks for explaining. It’s surprising to me that people make money this way because while I shop online, I don’t think I’ve ever clicked on a link from a site and then purchased something from the link. I honestly didn’t realize so many people do that.

I am so overwhelmed and so excited about WA that I am really lost for words.
I have barely been a Premium member for a week and have been asking myself: How come I never heard about Wealthy Affiliate until now?
I have literally invested thousands of pounds fumbling around in my attempts to create at least one website and promote my personal skills for the benefit of mankind. All I have acquired hitherto is information overload pulling my 'tentacles' as it were!
Thank God I have at last found a haven where I feel very much at home and am made to feel so welcome and so important.
The welcome training from Kyle and Carson are so EASY TO FOLLOW I am so impressed and feel very confident that I am now going to MAKE IT AT LONG LAST!
Many thanks to Kyle and Carson and I am grateful to the entire community for their welcome comments and contribution since I became a Premium member.

Hi everyone , I'm going to write a new post about the lighting effect DJ use, so I did my keyword research and I narrowed my keyword but my question is

If I choose "Best DJ lighting effects 2019" with 0 QSR and <10 Avg, am I going to rank as well for "Best DJ lighting effects" who's got 15 QSR and 32 Avg ?

Sometimes I try a long tail keyword who I would personally type on Google but unfortunately I've got no QSR and no Avg

So I would like to know when I choose a long tail Keyword like
"Best DJ lighting effects" am I ranking as well for "lighting effects"?

Have a look on the last screenshot, as soon as I had the word "best" everything drop down to 0

Thanks I hope I've been not too confusing

Best DJ Lighting Effects 2019.

You could go for that, this way you are targeting all the variations of the keywords within. Don't stress too much about any one keyword though, do research and create a list of the next 5-10 keywords you are going to build content around.

That is the preferred approach here, nice work on the research though.

Hi - you may remain a Starter member and operate your free SiteRubix website for up to 6 months.

A couple of things to consider ... after your first 7 days, you'll no longer be able to communicate on the WA platform (to ask questions, as you have just done). You'll also lose the special $19 special offer for your first month of Premium.

Also, Starter members' free SiteRubix websites are deleted at 6 months if they do not upgrade to Premium membership by that time.

Dear Toni,

Thanks for asking...

I do appreciate your question.

First I would like to inform you... You are here to learn about making money online. Without learning there is no earning.

The first ten free lessons is to show you the potential of this platform and training.

There are a lot more to learn. Also, I like to inform you this is an University to learn about making money online.

After joining a college if a student says let me earn first from what I learned from the two weeks classes and then I will continue... What will be the advise he will get and if you are his professor what you will tell him?

Dear Toni...

The Truth is in order to make money online it will take time, effort and work. You are building an online business.

You have to go through the learning before earning.

Also, I like to inform you...

You need to give enough time for your business to succeed. What you learned from the ten lessons is just the tip of an iceberg.

Hope this helps!

If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I am here to help you.

A lot of people are hesitant about going premium and I looked at it this way.
Do you want to build a business online?
Is this just a hobby?
Are you serious and want to make money online?

If it is a hobby then stay as a free member, however, if you are serious about learning all the skills and using the amazing tools here in WA, invest in yourself and get building.

Building a business of any kind takes money, an investment in yourself and your future and hard work consistently and only you know how you want to play this

I totally get what you're saying but the very definition of an entrepreneur is being a risk taker, putting yourself out there and hoping for the best return. That's why sometimes being an entrepreneur is so difficult and scary. But if you don't put yourself out there you may ask the question later what if I had done things different. It's a good idea to answer those questions and know than it is to not pursue your passion and wonder if it would have ever worked out. Live your best life. Good luck my friend.

Hey there! I'm actually impressed with this and feeling very positive and optimistic for the first time in years. My question is the following: If I should buy the premium package, therefore have access to an extensive training and support not to mention getting websites and all the extras, will I lose all my deals with respect to the websites, if lets say after 6 months or a year later decide to cancel my membership with Wealthy Affiliate? It's just a scenario I'm thinking of at this stage of the training. I am aware that this way of thinking could change further on into the training.

I just wanted to add an answer for your question about how quickly you can start earning.

This is really different from person to person. A lot of it comes down to the hours you put in. But realistically, most people start seeing some income after 3-6 months if they make an effort and follow the training here step-by-step. For some it takes shorter and for some longer.

There are a couple of good articles here you can read about more about this aspect: Hope this helps and let me know you you have any other questions.

Unfortunately, my day JOB gets in my way, along with my home-life, so I don't get too much time to put into my affiliate business as I'd like. But, my motto is "Keep Moving Forward."

Charlotte, welcome to WA!

Yes, you do pay for each domain name you purchase, but as a premium member, you can host several websites on siterubix without buying a domain name.

Yes, you can set up both email addresses and email forwards with your domain name after you purchase it.

No, WA does not offer an autoresponder program. If you feel you need that then you will need to find a separate program for that.

I'm sorry I cannot help with the laptop issue other than to say I have learned that many electronics behave better after being rebooted. I have had no issues with the WA site tonight.

Hope some of that helps. Feel free to ask if you need more information about any of this.

Whenever you want to edit a post or page (whether it's published or in draft form) go to your wordpress admin dashboard.

You might be using the new version of Wordpress called Guttenberg. I'm not even sure how to use that! lol

You might want to go to add a plugin to make writing Wordpress posts a little easier. (Unless you're getting by with Guttenberg ok.)

If you want to make it a little easier, then go to your Wordpress dashboard --> Plugins --> Add New

In the search, type "Classic Editor" and hit "Install now". Then activate it.

This will make editing your posts easier, especially if this is all new to you.

Then when you edit your About Me page, you can easily add paragraphs by hitting enter between each one.

Hi. I really liked the video about the Site Content. However, I have a bit of a complex situation.

When I first joined WA in 2014 I had a site about "how to make money online", it was published but I left WA and only returned about a week ago.

The thing is, I have created another website and these are my concerns:

- My new website is not "Wealth Creation Online", I would like to use the about me information that I previously wrote on my new website;

- I also want to use my first post on the old site on this new site;

- On my new site, I will be focusing on forex trading as the preferred online business and would like to promote a company that I am a member of where people are taught how to trade forex and there is also a multi-level marketing component that I am also a member of and would like to promote for new people to join below me. I also have a Url from that company that I would send to people to join the company.

- My main questions are: how do I promote forex as the preferred online business, how do I promote the multi-level marketing component of the company that I am a part of and how do I promote my Url from that company to get leads to join my multi-level marketing component. How do I use the old content and for it to not be flagged as duplicated content?

Grateful for your guidance.
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
If you built the old site through WA, I would assume you could just save the content, completely delete the site, and post the content on the new site. If Google cannot find the old site (because it was deleted), I don't imagine it will count as duplicate.

As far as promoting a Forex site, it wouldn't necessarily be any different than any other niche site. You could just write helpful articles educating readers about the various aspects of Forex, how to get started, costs, risks, etc. The URL would then just be like any other affiliate link like we cover in training.

The only issue I see is perhaps the MLM component. Not that it's "bad" or can't be done -- I've seen people do it -- but that often MLM companies have very stringent guidelines on where and how you can promote them, typically so they can protect their brand. Just make sure you're not violating any of their policies and you should be fine.

Hope that helps :-)

I just completed Lesson #3 of the Online Entrepreneur Certificate. At the end it stated that if one still had a problem with choosing a niche at this time, then a choice would be to become an affiliate in the "make money" niche with Wealthy Affiliate. This could be accomplished through the Affiliate Bootcamp. It also stated that if this was for me, then go to.....the Bootcamp training. I am introverted and I do not speak about my plans until they are underway. I like liberty and I want a life that is out-of-the-ordinary, and certainly one that does not correspond with my parents. I am full of initiative. Things are done to the full, with energy, vigor and strength of purpose; that is the same with a love life. I have the ability to command and I know how to take up my responsibilities at work. Also I am a writer and an artist. I have a fertile imagination, I am easily influenced. I like travel, especially cruises. All the leadership qualities are there, authority, sense of organization, initiative, intelligence, and also thanks to outside help. I am a fighter. I look for friends among "well-placed" people, artists known even regionally, influential people in society, the social and political world, and I like high-class evenings. I have a changeable nature. I know what is going on at a glance. I thirst after knowledge and I am a good organizer. I like literature, especially fiction. I am spontaneous in my friendships and I know how to take an advantage of the situations that arise. I am very generous and altruistic, helping people in difficulty or sick people. I am a dreamer, with lots of imagination. I have big ideas, I am tolerant and I have a strong sense of justice. I have good judgement, a good sense and I have my feet on the ground. I have the "gift of the gab," and I like to speak. I am erudite and I will normally be successful socially. I fight to improve my daily life, I am persevering. I am ambitious, in a calculated, well-balanced way. I climb the ladder slowly and surely, if needed, I am willing to change my ideas. I am wise and experienced. I am demonstrated in love and I like healthy pleasures. I enjoy life to the full. I have a great sense of observation and I quickly grasp the situation. I like to work alone, quietly. I pay attention to detail, I am serious, methodical, patient, and I can take on long, difficult and delicate tasks, and complete them.

Hi, ThuthukaniC1, I'm also new here and had a hard time paying for my first premium month and just 5 minutes ago paid for my second premium month 4 days late. But you know you can use the free stuff as long as you like. I believe, all that you have done so far and with your website and stuff if you have already picked out a site you can still work on inside the WordPress editor while you wait to pay your premium membership. Just because you are going to be late paying I know you can only go so far but all your stuff will still be here on the free stuff. I hope that helps, so don't worry it will all work out they don't just lock you out.

Joy.

Hi - as a starter member, you are given 2 free websites to work on for up to 6 months and access to the first 10 lessons. Remember, this is not a get rich quick scheme and will take time, effort and patience.

Sorry maybe a dumb question
So you can advertise almost the same product from different sellers on your website and still get the commission
For example
Your website is playstations and on the website you have different links say a link for a ps from toys’r’us, another for a ps from smyths toys then a link for a ps from game and you would get the commission from those links
Is that right?

AJTrimble1 Premium
Sure. But I'm not clear on why you would want to. Why not just go with the program that pays out better?

Thanks I got the lesson till that bit just kind of confused me and just wanted to clarify

No worries. Think of your site as revolving around your niche idea, not necessarily around products. As long as what you are linking to is related to the niche your audience expects, it pretty much doesn't matter where the link goes. Although, keep in mind that more popular or authoritative sites like Wal-Mart, Amazon, etc. do tend to build more trust with your reader.

Hi. I am from Puerto Rico and will soon self publish my first novel in Spanish. It is a very elaborated historic and love story about the USA B-29 super fortress and how the soviets copied it. My question is if I can use different internet distributors like Amazon, Walmart, etc., at the same time, after posting a related article.

Yes, you can. You can promote as many affiliate programs on your website as you like.

Over time you will likely be promoting many different products/services on your website and this will take place as your build out content and you see a good match between an audience and a product.

Remember, your role as an affiliate is to connect your traffic (an audience) with a product or service that will benefit them. This will be based on the context and relevance of the content.

Kyle I did privacy policy four times and when I went back today there is no privacy policy at all that has my infor in it . At one time I was done and I went back into privacy policey to find robot meta and keywords under pollicy to check mark the boxes as you asked in training class 7 and I could not find a complete policy in templates. I also notice that the only way to get into back office is thru the web page. I have 6 instruments in template. I am at a stand still. What am I doing wrong? Please
Ps Not being smart but is this the best way to get answers?

It's because some themes don't show pages by default within the top menu. See my comment above with instructions how to fix this. :)

Hi.. so I have one question..
If I don´t become a premium member, there is no way for me to communicate with other people here? Since I can´t ask questions, I can´t email, ou... and also I won´t be able to chat? :)

Well that makes perfect sence in SO many ways. :)
I guess I have 4 days and 7 hours to decide. I probably will become a premium tho. :)

That's not true Wresh. You'll lose acces to live chat, yes. And you won't have acces to the rest of the official training. But you can still communicate with WA and ask questions, just the way you did here.

And if you type your question in the search bar at the top, you'll find loads of WA blog posts and tutorials and trainings from other members that you can learn from.

It'll be more challenging and a bit more work, but you will still have the support of this community and acces to help.

Remember that once you go Premium, you can't go back to being a free member. But you can stay a free member for as long as you like.

nope - comment privileges expire the same time as live chat for starters.
so starters, click the follow buttons on the members and find their sites and hopefully their emails to ask questions.

"Best answer" :)
Thank you very much for getting back to me BvVugt. Your answer was exactelly the one I was looking for. I was a bit sceptic about not being able to communicate at all at any level. I think in the end it was just me missunderstanding the concept och "interacting with people" :)

Thank you =)

Hello Wresh: Of course you want to become a premium member. It's almost impossible not to. You are correct, you will not be able to do any of those things unless you become a premium member. I wanted to be able to ask questions and get answers. I wanted to be able to use the support group when needed. The benefits are irreplaceable. So go ahead and do it. You'll be so glad you did,

Hello! Complete newbie here. Choosing my first niche. The first thing that came to mind was cameras. I love photography (not that I'm much good at it). My question is, am I building my first website based on one particular camera? Or cameras and photography as a whole? I hope this makes sense.
Reply
Gaia11 Premium
I think you can do both, you can choose different cameras and put affiliate links that are linked to the same company. For example if you use Amazon you can put different cameras with affiliate links to amazon. Or just one same product with different affiliate links, so one is amazon another ebay and so one. Hope it makes sense :)

It's probably better to create pages about different types of camera, e.g. bridge camera, DSLR etc, then review specific types e.g. Nikon P1000 with outbound links from the review.

Hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs :).

Good luck.
