Lesson 1, Getting Rolling!

First off, we would like to personally welcome you to Wealthy Affiliate. I am Kyle, co-founder of Wealthy Affiliate and I am going to be the one walking you through the training here.

Carson, the other co-founder works more with the technical team (over 25 people) so you will see a bit less of him, although he is still very much active here within the community every day.

You have definitely made the right choice in joining the community here at Wealthy Affiliate, you are going to love it here and you are going to quickly realize we care about you and your success online!

In the coming days and weeks we are going to be showing you how online success works and we will help you realize your own potential within the Internet space to earn revenue and leverage the internet to grow a business.

Before we continue, we want to point out a few important things:

(1) Anyone Can Accomplish Success Online. There are 3.75 BILLION people using the Internet, regardless of the direction you head online there is a very large number of people there that you can connect with. Members here at WA succeed at the highest rate out of any platform online!

(2) Anything NEW can appear to be Overwhelming at First. Like riding a bike, it is normal to feel overwhelmed and even "fall" a few times when getting rolling. Don't worry, you will quickly get the hang of things! Stick with Wealthy Affiliate and you will achieve, and far exceed your goals.

(3) No Technical or Prior Online Business Experience Required. If you have experience that is great, but it is definitely not a requirement here at Wealthy Affiliate. Everything related to online business can be learned here within your membership and you definitely do not need to be a "techie".

(4) Success is a Journey. Success is very cumulative by design. This means that everything you do now, and every step you take will contribute towards your personal success in the future. An exciting journey does lie ahead and the effort you put forth now will pay off later and often times forever!

A Quick Look at How YOU Will Be Creating Success

Success online is at the core a 4 step process nothing more complex than this and this is exactly what you are going to be learning here at Wealthy Affiliate. Here is a quick diagram breaking down the process.

Broken, down, the process looks like this:

Step 1: Choose an Interest. This can be anything at all, any interest, passion or even something you have no personal experience with.

Step 2: Build a Website. Your website is your foundation and we have the most sophisticated and feature rich website and hosting platform here at Wealthy Affiliate in SiteRubix.

Step 3: Attract Visitors. You are going to be learning all about how to get traffic and visitors to your website. The first focus is FREE traffic and there is A LOT of it out there.

Step 4: Earn Revenue. Once you have people on your site and traffic, you can earn revenue. There are over 50 ways you can monetize traffic online!

As you go through the training, this is going to be covered in detail. As mentioned, absolutely EVERYTHING you need is here at WA to facilitate this process!

Before we go any further...

We want to give you two simple pieces of advice within the Wealthy Affiliate community.

Piece of Advice #1: Do not be afraid to ask questions! There is 100,000's of people here within WA and many, MANY experts. You need help, please ask!

Piece of Advice #2: Take action on what you learn! Action leads to success. You could read and watch the training until you are blue in the face, but if you never take action on it you won't achieve any success.

We don’t want to put any pressure on you and definitely do not want to overwhelm you as you get started, so we are going to give you three simple tasks to perform (as noted below). Spend a few minutes today and complete these tasks! :)

You are currently reading lesson 1 of a 10 lesson Getting Started Course. This course is going to step you through the process of getting started. It will answer all of the questions that you have about earning money on the Internet, and will reveal exactly how to do it.

If you ever need to get back to your training, simply click the Get Started Here button within the side menu. This "smart" button will always take you back to your last completed task and you will also see your progress through the training.

Click the "You Are Here" to get back into your training at any time.

Your Current Tasks :)

In this Lesson you will become involved and immersed within the awesome community at Wealthy Affiliate. This is a community that cares about your success, and one where you will create wonderful relationships within the industry. You will soon learn that you can SUPERCHARGE your learning and ultimately, your success by being active in the community, and immersing yourself.

This starts with uploading a picture, adding a few words about yourself in your profile description, and getting involved in a live chat with others. These tiny steps are referred to as your "Account Setup" tasks which we will discuss below in a little more detail.

Right now, there is no reason to delay your training, let's get started with your Tasks for today.

Task 1: Watch The Walk Through Video Below

Your first task today is to watch the Wealthy Affiliate Walk-through video. This video will walk you through Wealthy Affiliate, show you how to find your way around, show you how to get help, and ultimately show you how WA will help you succeed within the online world.

DISCUSS VIDEO: Wealthy Affiliate - A Comprehensive Platform Walk-through

At any time if you have questions as you are watching the Wealthy Affiliate Walkthrough video, simply leave them in the comments section below the video and we will be more than happy to help you out. Remember, there is a TON of help available whenever you need it.

Task 2: Complete Your Account Set-up

Your final task for today is to set-up your Wealthy Affiliate account. I have created a quick video walk-through showing you how to set-up your account:

DISCUSS VIDEO: Completing Your Account Setup (It's EASY)

Setting up your Wealthy Affiliate account only includes two items:

(1) Adding a profile image (can be anything you want)
(2) Adding a personal description

This may seem very simple (and it is), but there are definite reasons that you are going to want to complete the account set-up process. Here are some benefits to setting up your account:

  • Leads to better networking within the community
  • Your “followers” within the community will go up at least 5x (in some cases)
  • People are more willing to help you if you have a profile
  • Adds a level of credibility within the community
  • Shows others that you are serious about SUCCESS

Immerse yourself within Wealthy Affiliate and you are going to experience a lot more success. It is a rare day within WA when you don’t get to brush shoulders with millionaire marketers hanging out within the community, so take this serious and make your profile (people’s first impression of you) a good one.

Task #3: Understand Your Membership

If you joined for FREE, you currently have a Starter membership . This is the starting point of your success online. You get a good deal of access with the Starter level membership, but you need to know that there is MUCH MORE to be found at WA.

There are huge benefits to going premium when you are ready. Your last task for today is to take a second to learn about our Premium membership and how it differs from the Starter program.

Get All of the "Juicy" Details About Premium Here!

You are in good hands here at Wealthy Affiliate regardless of whether you are Starter or Premium.

Make us a Promise OK?

We want you to make us a promise today. We want you to give Wealthy Affiliate a chance first and foremost. We know that you may have had bad experiences online in the past and we want you to allow us to prove ourselves to you.

We care about YOU and we care about YOUR personal success more than you think.

Do we have a deal? :)

Again, we want to personally welcome you to the community and we look forward to helping you achieve success online, and far exceeding your expectations :)

Your friends,

Kyle & Carson

PS. When you are done your tasks, check them off below and then move onto the next lesson.

In the next lesson we are going to be talking all about Making Money! :)

Tasks 0/3 completed
1. Watch the Walk-through Video of Wealthy Affiliate
2. Watch the Account Set-up Video of Wealthy Affiliate
3. Complete the Account Set-up Process (description, image, goals)

Plugin Management is being updated!
At Wealthy Affiliate we are always making improvements to our State-of-the-art Hosting. We are currently making some back-end updates to enable us to manage plugins more efficiently and reliably. This requires us to disable plugin management on our SiteRubix.com domain temporarily.

If you are working through the training and are wanting to activate plugins, please continue with the training and come back to this step in the coming day or so when this system update is complete!

I will conutine with my training as normal, I just wanted to know if anyone else had this issue. if so, what does it mean if I have not completed these task. does this affect anything.

Hello!!! I hope everybody is doing fine and accomplish their goals. I do have a question thought. I have several ideas for my niche, but I am a bit scare these ideas could be too general.. how to compete with many other websites that probably has your niche as well?... Any advise? Thanks!!

Estefania,
Hello and welcom to WA!
You want to be somewhat general, but also focused. You want to give yourself plenty of things you are passionate about to write, but not so many that your readers are confused about what your site is really about.
We are all competeing with many sites with the same niche, the thing to do is focus on creating great quality content on a consistent basis, and use Jaaxy to your fullest advantage when searching keywords.
This is all in the training, just follow it step by step, it is tempting to jump ahead, but you will get frustrated if you do.
So I suggest just follow the training and you will find yourself with a wonderful site that is indexing and ranking on Google, Bing and Yahoo.
Best of luck!
Stacie

Pick something that you are passionate about. You will be creating a lot of content, so you don't want to choose something that you will burn out on, otherwise you just created another job for yourself... and who wants that? :-)

As far as the competition, don't let it scare you. There were a ton of search engines out there when a tiny company called Google came along. You could buy books--and everything else--from anywhere when a little startup named Amazon launched in a garage.

In a sense, you really have no competition, because no other website has your greatest asset -- YOU. Just be yourself, put your own unique spin on it, and you will find an audience that relates to you and your style better than anyone else, and they will be loyal.

Hope this helps.

Stefania, you are cover so far with good advice.

Just to complete, your website will be unique, do not be afraid of any competition, they will always exist for any niche you choose. This is not such thing a niche not taken, so do not be afraid. You will have the support from all the community here at WA. Follow your training, work hard, be persistent, be brave, be patience and everything will be fine.

Cheer to your success,

On your site dashboard look under Appearance > Menus. You may have to add it to the main menu you set up for the site.

Hi there,
I'd like to focus on a real estate niche, but is this too broad?
In the Level 1 Lesson 3, the niche is used to inform the web address (aka basketballskillsanddrills). Am I supposed to make my niche more specific to come up with my domain name, or am I just looking for any domain name that is available related to real estate?
Reply

hi Mia & welcome to Wealthy Affiliate (WA) starter!

That's super that you're doing well on the training -- and good questions, too!

re: niche -- suggest you might want to narrow that a bit as it's pretty broad, for instance, there's commercial vs residential real estate and sub-categories within each of those as well .. and if you're an experienced licensed realtor than, of course, that makes it much more credible to your audience for engagement with you ... :)

keep moving on your training with Kyle to success, all the best, cheerio ... ⭐️🎈

I am following Kyle tutorial on navigation and he is on Hielo theme and I choose Twenty Sixteen. Can I change the theme back to Hielo to follow him more easily, if yes how?
I am still on the free account if I can't change it can I start fresh again?
Reply

Yes, you can change the theme at any time:

Just go to Themes, and select the Hielo theme.

However all Themes contain the same basic functional elements, they just look different. So it's not necessary to switch back, but is a possibility if you prefer.

Hope that helps!

Hello Claude;
Yes you can change to Hielo, and back again as long as you can get to the back dashboard. Go to Appearance, then Themes, the theme you are looking for should be right there. Just Activate the theme you want. Hope this helps.

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if someone could explain why it's not a good idea to use a keyword if it doesn't make grammatical sense? I know people often search for things in google without using proper grammar, so I would think that a grammatically incorrect keyword wouldn't hurt search results. Anyone able to explain further?

Thanks!

Best,
S

The bots that Google uses check for grammatical errors. So even though someone searches for the term you'll get dinged because it's not grammatically correct.

One example: do you want to use bad grammar in your content multiple times? What will your readers say?
Reply
Robert-A Premium
A simple example would be - work home - this doesn't make sense on its own but over 50,000 people use it as a search term each month.

You should be able to incorporate any keyword or keyword phrase into your content and make it make sense.

To use Robert's analogy work home one way would be.

Have you ever had the magical idea of work home? The idea you could work at home and not have to commute?

Most people will not click on bad-grammar titles. It looks bad on the website.

Plus, Google autocorrects anyway, so you are not going to gain any special rank by targeting incorrect phrases or spellings:
Reply
smlyon Premium
Gotcha!

I was thinking that keywords could mean not only the title, but also a list of keywords that could be added to the content. Sort of like tags that you would add to classify what a post is about.

So, thank you for explaining that!

I would definitely want to keep readers coming back with good, clear grammar!
But, I had been thinking that keywords could also mean tags (for the sake of classifying posts) that could be added to the post, and not only titles. It makes sense to ensure titles and content follow good grammar rules, but maybe tags don't have to be quite as grammatical?

Thanks for chiming in!

i got an idea of a great niche and i think it is way better than what i discuss with my friend and families. it is the OVERSEAS FILIPINO WORKER niche because as a former OFW i know what a person feels working abroad working in a strange land far from home away from families that we used to live with and it drives me to an idea of creating a website where all of my co-OFW can visit anytime they feel to be close to their families even to take a look at the website where they can ease the loneliness they feel by just clicking at the images or videos who will link them back home and with all the advertisement, marketing and affiliates link which i will study and put to construction of how all the OFW who will visit my site will patronize and perhaps consider to add to their list of what to buy. i need a help from anyone who can add or boost my idea or even someone who can tell if my idea is acceptable and can be put into reality or my idea is weak that it will not make any profit or it will create slow money generating online business. i'm into creating my website now as a task so please help me take my heavy foot to first step.

God bless you all.

I think this is a pretty solid idea personally. You have a very specific niche and, the spirit of it ...bringing people together like that...truly shines.
Take it one day at a time and, always ask questions like you are doing right now.
Also, because you are brand new ...if you can make it to Friday's Live Webinar with Jay, you can get an "over the shoulder" look at how to build out a website from scratch.

I'm leaving you the link to the next one coming up but, definitely check out the 2 previous ones that began the series. When you register it will give you the correct time of whatever time-zone you may be in. (For me they happen 5PM PST.)

A warm welcome to you :)

Does anyone else find the website designer super basic and therefore hard to navigate because you cannot see what you are doing as you go along? The website ends up looking like a site from 2002.. Has anyone used website designers such as Wix or SquareSpace in comparison? If i am pouring all of this effort into my webpage i want it to look as good as possible and be on par with the competition out there.. I hope this doesn't sound negative i am only being honest ;)

Good question, I have never really thought about it, this is my first ever website building experience - hopefully you will get an answer from someone else. hi, by the way :)
Reply

Yes and no. Wealthy Affiliate doesn't own the website designer, it really just lets you choose Wordpress themes. And most free Wordpress themes are quite bad in terms of customizability and design. You'll often need to pay for a theme and that can be quite expensive.

My recommendation for you is to not worry about the site design in the beginning too much especially when nobody but yourself is going to see it anyways. Focus on getting content out. The only real design tip to keep in mind is that your content is readable. Then as you get bigger and start earning money, investing into Wordpress themes/designers can be well worth it.

Although if you do have the money ($89 per year or $249 lifetime access), you can get the Divi Theme. This theme is the most customizable Wordpress theme out there. It's basically a drag and drop editor like Wix and SquareSpace except it's more suitable for affiliate marketing. You can PM me if you want more information :)

I didn't buy my own theme until about 4 months into my membership at WA (about 4 years ago.)

I use studio press Genesis Framework (Word Press of course) the eleven 40 pro theme (same one Jay Neil uses our Live Video trainer here at WA.)

I paid a one time fee for a lifetime of use and updates. Also, once a year I get offered every other WP theme for about the same set price (literally every WP theme included.) I've never taken them up on that but, probably will this year.

Honestly, I just loved the simplicity and I knew that it looked good but, also and, quite literally, I could not make up my mind on the hundreds of themes available so I went with a pro choice. It was still a learning process.

Just remember ...you can always change your theme but, content is King. If you are being consistent with your work it can pay for your golden choice theme eventually.
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
You control the theme. The free ones are basic, of course, because they are, well... free. You can always upgrade to a paid theme if you feel it is necessary.

BUT...

Don't put the cart before the horse. No one is searching for your site because it has a pretty theme. People come to your site for information and solutions to their problems. Focus on creating quality content; themes can come later.

Hello! do we need to buy and use the product itself in order to write an honest review about it and thereby promoting it to our readers? Also, in the supplements example in the video, where did the website owner gets all the ratings and reviews for each of the supplements on his site?

Hi Ash,

You will learn it in the training, it is called research. You don't need to buy the product - you can just do in depth research to have great knowledge. As long as it is something that will help someone else. For example if someone chooses a niche on cars or travel, they don't need to buy every item - just have the information to help others. I hope that is helpful to your question.

hi Ashley & welcome to Wealthy Affiliate (WA) starter!

All good questions -- Snazzy said it right -- it's all about finding things out through researching the product or topic ...

Here's a start of a sentence that may help you focus your attention when preparing a blog and for you complete:

" I would like to make a difference by help people ................ " (e.g. solve a problem, find a solution, make the best buy ...)

hope that helps fine-tune it a bit for you and of course, encourage you to carry on with the amazing WA training to success, all the best, cheerio ... ⭐️🎈

I'm going to say something on the contrary. I definitely recommend you buy the product itself to review. It helps convert better. No one wants to buy something someone recommends something they never tried out themselves nor do they want someone bashing a product they never bought.

It's like judging a book by its cover.

But to avoid a costly business, there are two methods you can use. One being telling a company that you're an affiliate marketer and asking them to give you a free trial of a product in exchange for a review.

The other method is to focus on one or two products that you already use and focus on promoting them. You should also spend most of your time writing posts to help people too :)

My sponsor Tim suggested I do keyword research when I first started building my website for help with titles. I wondered why Research wasn’t addressed then. I got bogged down with Jaaxy that he had to cautioned me to continue my lessons as Kyle knew what he was doing. Tim was so right as I learned more about Keywords from this lesson than messing with Jaaxy by myself. I’ve never been exposed to research like this and so excited about moving forward. Thanks Kyle and Carson for paving the way for us :)

Reach out to everyone you will be writing about. Email/call etc. I have never been turned down by anyone I wanted to write content for.
With your effort to reach out you establish a relationship and also can ask what guidelines (if any) that they have for using their name (their brand) on your website.

You can also see if they have an affiliate link that you could use to make a bit of income through promoting in. I always reach out. The worst they can say is no. You don't have to reach out to write about them but, you would be surprised sometimes at the new things you can learn and maybe even be able to add more resources to your lists because of the time you took to connect!

Good work on picking a niche like this. I know I scoured the net for this type of work when I first started traveling more again :)

Totally agree with fyre, always be transparent and more than often these companies welcome the free advertising. You never know they may even buy your site of you one day (just another thought).

I was thinking about my niche, I think I would like to go with pet supplies for dogs. I have 3 and love each one like my children, so I thought this might be a great way for me to go

Can anyone let me know if this niche would be a great ideal? Thanks

Welcome to Wealthy Affiliate.
That would actually be a great niche but I would suggest you narrow it down a bit.

Pet supplies is very broad. What type of supplies do you use the most for your 4 legged family members or which ones are you most interested in?

You can also check other websites in that niche. See what they might be missing.

Read through some of their comments to see what their readers are asking about.

This might give you some ideas.

I hope this helps😀

Custom menus are going to be covered in subsequent lessons, not to worry. You can add these custom menus to organize your top menu in any way in which you like, as well as create sub-menus (for themes that will support this). You can also use these custom menus to add within your side widgets on your website (within your sidebar).

Here is a tutorial on how to create custom menus: I use custom menus on all of my websites (over-ride that default menu). It allows much more control and organization....both good things!

PS. And yes, you can delete ANY page or post on your website, and start over. If you don't like your privacy policy, you can either update the content on it and save, or you can create a new one.

hi um, I think my niche is going to be about clothing. Just maybe different types of clothuing around the the world for a decent price. The reason why I chose this niche is because I love fashion and different cultures and I beleve you can learn alot from the different customs and styles other countries wear.

Clothing is a bit broad. You should narrow this down here. Clothing for WHO? What type of clothing? What style?

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Hi i recently did a major project on helping dyslexic students integrating into their school environment better. Can that be a niche? Also im also planning to do a blog about rating tourist destinations according to how family friendly it is. Lastly, i would like to ask if i dont have any knowledge or interest in an area, can i do a consolidation reviews by grpin various reviews from different sites into a single summarised review, without havin to experience the products themselves?

You can use either to be your niche. I would recommend only choosing one to start with.

Once you have made it through the training and your first site is established and earning some money, you can always start a second website with a new niche.

As for the products, no you do not have to have previous experience with it.

You can do the research and write a review on what you have discovered.

I hope this was helpful : )

Thank you very much to warmly welcoming me at WA. 1) I define myself like a big dreamer, a researcher, an organizer, but not a technician. I have even been poet, so I like imagination and innovation. So, I am happy you ensure me it is not necessary to be technician here. 2) I have not given you the name of my online business (still in prototype step), because you've asked only an email without saying professional (or business) email. I have given only my personal e-mail. If it is important to change, you'll tell me.

You don't need to give your personal email. You are in full control of your business and the privacy associated with that. I know that you are going to love Wealthy Affiliate and the training here.

I am a slow learner so I had to go back and review the lessons again. If you can I suggest using two monitors with your website on one and the lesson on the other. Whole watching the video or reading the instructions below, you can work on your website as directed at the same time. In this way @dolrah, you will not bite off more than you can chew.
Reply

Sure, if you have a two monitor set-up that is the way to go. I used to have 3 actually, I found that I get more done when I just have ONE screen (my laptop).

There is a fine line between trying to multi-task and lose focus, but for following along with and taking action on the training, I can truly see a practical purpose.

I have my niche narrowed down but I am trying to find out what the best products are to sell. I have experience with some of these products but not all of them. Basically trying to find out which ones are most likely to sell the most often. I have a second niche idea too that involved lower ticket items which would definitely sell all the time. Help!!

You will get there as you go through the training, the first focus with your website is to build out the foundation, the content and get rankings. Once you have rankings and traffic then you can focus on what you are going to promote.

There are 10,000's of affiliate programs and millions of products you are going to be able to promote as an affiliate, don't ever worry about there being nothing to promote within a given niche. There will likely be 100's if not 1,000's of things you can promote. ;)

There is no sense in putting to much thought into what you are going to promote until you have content in place and an audience to promote to. You will definitely get there though!

I was very surprised about what happens when i google our band. Memory Road. It appears in the top 10 of the search. How did that happen? We dont have that many followers or subscribers to our Facebook site(270 fans) and although we have 100+ videos on youtube, we probably only get 1k veiws in 4 years. I dont understand why we are at the top in search results. Do you know why? It makes no sense to me how that happened. Perhaps you could shed some light on this?

It's likely because Memory Road is a rather unique set of keywords and there is not a lot of competition for it. That can actually be a good thing. Imagine how hard it would be if your band was called "Amazon". :-)

The Premium membership comes with Jaaxy Lite which requires manual action. In the tutorial Kyle uses the full version which displays the values automatically.

Just click the Get QSR link ...

Or upgrade Jaaxy :)

The Jaaxy account used in the video is Enterprise I believe. You get Jaaxy Lite with your WA membership. You can upgrade for a fee if you wish or you can simply click the Get button to display the number manually.
Reply
HelenpDoyle Premium
Jaaxy comes in three levels. Initially you get Jaaxy Lite (free). This has limitations on it. Or you can upgrade to Jaaxy Pro ($19 USD per month). This has more functions.

For these two you need to click Get QSR link.

Lastly there is Jaaxy Enterprise ($49 USD per month). With this one the QSRs appear without having to click. You get full functions.

These are prices for premium members. Non premium pay significantly more.

Your choice.

Hi, had a question regarding the Keywords.

How should I interpret the KQI and SEO reading?

As I have seen that there are some keywords that come out and QSR is >100 however the KQI says GREAT and the SEO has a high number. In these cases the Avg. searches and the Traffic numbers are very high.

Should I leave them alone or are they good options to go for?

Thanks for the help.

BJO

A good guideline is that the QSR under 100 and the searches over 100 and the SEO in the 90's.
My personal preference is QSR under 50 and lower if possible.
Robert-A

The tabs in Jaaxy have a question mark that when clicked reveals this information:

Keyword = "A phrase that users type into the search engines to find what they are looking for."
Avg = "The average number of searches that the keyword receives per month"
Traffic = “Visits to your website if you achieve first page rankings in the Search Engines”
QSR = “Quoted Search Results: the number of competing websites ranked in Google for this exact keyword”
KQI = “Keyword Quality Indicator: Green is great, Yellow is OK, Red is Poor.”
SEO = “A score based on traffic and competition, the higher the score, the more likely you will rank for this keyword on the first page (scale of 1-100, higher = better).
Domains = “Availability of domains that are related to the keyword.

Hope this helps!

Hi All. I've started the training again, after being away for almost a year. I only got up to middle of Level 2 I think, so I started again, to review, and I have a few questions. While away, I did some really basic WP training on line (from WordPress, through Lynda.com). Thought it would help me here. And I'm wondering:

- It seems that Yoast SEO is what everyone is touting. Any thoughts on that? Or is the All In One fine?

- I also saw Akismet everywhere as an anti-spam plug in. I think it's important to have, because on my old web site, there was tons of spam left in the comments. Any thoughts on this?

- Finally, I have always put About Me as a "page," and I don't think I've ever seen it done differently. I don't understand why Kyle thinks it should be a post. Can anyone comment on that?

Thanks!
Terry Ryan
Reply
smartketeer Premium
They are both great plugins. In my opinion YOAST is more user friendly, but AIO SEO is also very good ... It's your choice ... Both will do the job ...

You don't need Akismet for WA hosted sites ... Antispam security is a default service ... In fact I think that Akismet could be even banned for this reason ...

The most common scenario is to have an About Me PAGE that is linked to your main menu ... It's pointless to "hide it" in an endless blogroll ...

Hi. So I did my home page title and description, skipped everything else, as directed, and scrolled to the bottom, enabled keywords and left all else the same.BUT NOW, when I scroll back up, the entire Home Page Setttings section is gone.

On the way down, I did click a box that enabled a static home page, because that's what I have at them moment. Did that make the Home Page Settings section disappear?
Reply

Perhaps you need to add the Home page to the menu. It is hard to identify where exactly you are in the training.

Do you know of a plugin that allows me to have a comment section at the bottom of my website. I know there are comments under posts and media but is there a way to have a comment section on the web page itself so users can leave general comments?
Reply
ericcantu Premium
Oh ok in another answer I may have misunderstood that you were wanting a live chat on your site. If you're looking to have an area where people can reach out and leave general comments or questions that maybe don't pertain to specific posts you can just make your About Me have a comments section. In your About Me you can mention that anyone who would like to contact you, ask a general question, etc. can leave their comment and you'll get back to them.

I just tried to load my Privacy Policy using the Content Editor and I got a page on my site that doesn't look like what I typed in. I took the extra step of making my changed version into a Template. Did that screw things up? Maybe thIs is a new automatic Privacy Policy, because it auto-filled my siterubix domain and has several headings with no text at the end.???

Also, the Classic Editor will let you check the "no follow" checkboxes, but I can't find where to do this step in the new Block Editor.

Hello! I have a couple of questions.

Question 1: I have an interest in a few health-related topics related to happiness and well-being. However, that seems like too broad of a niche correct? For a beginning niche, I was thinking about "Natural Ways to Fight Insomnia," or something like that... Or do I need to be more specific and promote, weighted blankets for example? (PS they are awesome....)
Another niche idea I was thinking about was, "Meditation."
Are these too broad or am I completely off the mark?

Question 2: Once we get more knowledgeable of the process can we later do the Bootcamp to promote WA. I feel like WA completely applies to helping others and financial wellness, but I need to take things one step at a time!

Thank you all for any comments or advice and I'm wishing you all well on your endeavors!
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
Yes, and yes.

1) Natural ways to fight insomnia is a perfect niche. Not too broad (e.g. Sleep), or too tight. As long as it's big enough that you don't run out of things to say you're good.

2) You can definitely promote WA later. One tip, though...

A big mistake that I see people do all the time is to create a site that has nothing to do with building websites, marketing, or making money, and then slapping a page (or worse, banners) for WA all over their site. Don't do that.

The bottom line is that it's incongruent with your message and your visitors will not likely be a good audience. Instead, create a second site dedicated to affiliate marketing and link the two.

For now, though, just focus on your insomnia idea. I know I, for one, will be looking forward to it. :-)

VitaliyG Premium
Hi Tia:

Question 1: Out of the choices you listed, fighting insomnia is an awesome choice in my opinion! If you ever get stuck on niche selection, follow this strategy: Question 2: Of course, you can always expand into another niche site and promote WA or focus on creating a new niche site that doesn't promote it. Either way, I would recommend taking it slow with one niche site first.

I started this training last year around this time. I stopped, because I needed to put some more time and thought into what I wanted to do...and I also wanted to get some general WP training, because too often, I was getting stuck in the training and frustrated. And it was mostly due to not being able to get things on the site to work or look the way I wanted them to. In the generalized WP training I took elsewhere (and it was nothing very in depth), I came to realize that it IS, INDEED, the THEMES that can make my life difficult. They are all very particular and seem to work in "mysterious" ways. All this to say that, I'm sure here is in-depth training on Themes available elsewhere on WA, but I do think it might be helpful to do a little bit more on Themes at this point in the training. Because here I am, again, about to pick a theme, and I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best! That is, hoping that I don't get hung up down the line in the training due to a finicky Theme, or one that was really not the best for me.
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
If I might make a suggestion, I would recommend that you actually use the exact same theme Kyle uses in the training videos. Sure, it's certainly not the prettiest, but that's not the point right now.

By using the same one, when he says "do this" and "do that", you can follow along. When you finish, your site should look exactly like his; if not, you have immediate feedback that something was missed.

Once you are comfortable with all the ins-and-outs of how themes work, then you can change to something better looking and more dynamic.

Hope this helps. :-)

I have been writing about travel topics, but I'm not sure if the niche is narrow enough. I'm not sure if I want to limit the site to only about certain countries/regions (as the articles will adjust with the destinations I visit, which are not particularly at certain areas); and I've also been sharing about "affordable and comfortable" travel style, which means that it's not backpacker and neither full luxury (first/business class, 5 stars hotels) style. Do you have any suggestion on any possible improvement? Thanks a lot!
Reply
sfortson Premium
Personally with a travel niche, I would worry less about the destinations being limited, and concentrate on the modes of travel, hotels, restaraunts and other trip related expenses.

Do you plan on promoting cruise ships, airline tickets, car rentals and gas prices, etc... I would think that would be the section to consider limitations as modes of travel can be very broad.

Small towns have histories and unique businesses that bode quite well with travelers. Old, but small hotels, fascinating foods, unique cultures and customs, parades and so on....

It may worth your time to write exciting articles on this.

I would at least narrow down the country or location you have tickets for and also what kind of tickets, you don't have air tickets.
I'd google first what domain name you want to choose and check out the competition on the keyword.
For example "USA Event tickets" etc.
Eventually, you can probably promote all affiliate programs if they allow it :)

Morlene, unfortunately, if you want something get rich quick then you will be disappointed.

This is why so many online schemes don't work and people lose a lot of money trying to make it happen. There is no get rich quick.

It is slow and hard and takes a lot of work.

You have access to a wonderful training opportunity.
Go through the free level one training at your own pace.
Read the member blogs that show up on the dashboard each day and see if they help you learn more.

You can stay a starter member as long as you need, ONLY if you log on and work on your website and the training.

When you are then ready, and the finances allow there is so much more with the rest of the training.

Unfortunately, no one can guarantee that you will make money but people who constantly spend time on their website, learn all that they can and apply what they learn are the ones that do.

As a starter member, you can still make money from any referral who joins the premium program. Remember this and write a post on your free site rubix website, then share it across your social media profiles. (you must go through your website and not just send affiliate links)

Spam, gently.... tell everyone about your blog post and ask them what they think. It only takes one or two to hear you and it will make a huge difference.

Hello, I hope you all are doing pretty well. I have come across an article about the difference between a blog and a classic website.
The idea of running a website can be scary for more than one, what you have to know is that you will be more a blogger than a developer.
So ease your mind and enjoy the training. Don’t put much pressure on yourself, instead think more in terms of blogging, means express yourself, your experience, your knowledge, your thoughts in your way and people will buy.
One important thing to keep in mind is to make sure anything you create from now add a value or solve someone problem as insignificant as it may seem to you.

As I'm going through the Jaaxy keyword search I realize that my 'niche' topic might be a little broad as I am trying to promote a concept in a way so that I can try and sell multiple items on my site that relate to my concept. Basically if someone searches for a specific item and happen to come to my website where I promote that item but they discover other items related to it where it can complete the concept, is that getting to complicated? If so should I narrow it down for my first website? And am I able to do that?

Hey! Thanks for helping me with my question. I think it's important to remember you're not trying to become another amazon or purchasing website like that. You're trying to provide really valuable content for a specific niche. So, if you're going to write about tents and replacement pieces for those tents, that could make sense. But, the power of affiliate marketing I believe comes from depth over breadth. Maybe just keep reviewing the lesson on what makes a niche good. I did that plus read the lesson linked below on choosing a niche, took a few breaths and was able to refocus and come up with a few viable options that did leave me thinking "I'm not sure." Hope that helps you!!

Hi Sabita,
When you decide the theme of your particular blog, niche, topic is going. You want to create your content around a hook. The keyword or phrase is going to be it.
The Keyword Rich Lesson states.
1. Keyword/phrase in the title.
2. Keyword/phrase in the first couple paragraphs.
3. Then write content naturally. Don't focus on the keyword. This is where I think about the audience. Identify with them and drop the appropriate links in the appropriate places.
As I think about what the theme is, I adjust the thought to a jaaxy search and see what some of the content may look like as the thoughts evolve. Low and behold the words generated are rich with keywords and phrases.
I'm no whiz at this, but things are starting to look like something.
You can certainly narrow the audience, it helps with your numbers as well.
Best wishes in your coming successes.
John

I've been in digital marketing for years, and have promoted (through Facebook ads, SEO, PPC etc.) lots of wonderful products and services for other companies. However, I've thought about niches, critiqued niches, criticized ppl for picking the wrong niche and overall overthought the whole choosing a niche process as part of my service to my clients. At this point I feel totally paralyzed when it comes to choosing my OWN bcs all the experiences over the past 6 years of agency/freelance work (over 65 clients) comes flooding in. Just pick one of the many many things I'm passionate about (I'm latina, we're passionate about everything, ok?) and go? Breath through it and give it 24 hrs till I can choose more comfortably now that I'm at this part of my journey? I dunno y'all. Your ideas and voices are appreciated!

A niche can literally be almost anything.

The key is to remember that you will be creating a TON of content for your new site, so if you're interested in multiple things, just make sure you pick an area that you won't get bored talking about.

Here's an article from my friend Zed that may help you narrow things down a bit:

OK...what are you hobbies then if you're passionate about everything. Have you gone through a trial or tribulation that others can relate to and can you offer advice on it? Something you love, something you know, those are going to be the easiest to start with.

If you consider helping people choosing a niche why don't you just target people looking for niche ideas? Like "the niche finder" or "best niches . com" etc :)

I basically sat down and wrote a list of things I love to do. Weather it be hiking, camping or what not and then I wrote all possible items associated with those activities like camp tents, camp chairs, bbq's, etc. Then you can create a website with those items in mind and are able to promote those items because you are passionate about that certain activity. Hope that helps :)

Hi rcaldwellm,
Yes,I am there too. So many choices. Basically, first thing, breathe. Then get a pen and paper, go to a quiet place, close your eyes...and ask yourself, what do I love. As soon as whatever comes to mind, right only 5 thoughts down. ONLY the first FIVE! Now look at the list. Is it people? Colors? Places? That can help eliminate choices. If colors come to you, what do they represent to you? Blue-Fun things, Green- healthy, Yellow-Medical, Purple- Royal/Royalty-expensive items aka jewelry, clothes-shoes, cars.
So your are not seeing a bunch of words before your eyes and trying to "find" one niche "jump out at you". That was what I felt like till I did the Five thing on paper. Your body can "narrow down the choices". Hope this helps.

Everything I've learned makes me feel like I know a lot, but I know I have a lot more to learn and that's fine. So I've thought about what a lot of people do (not everyone), but they play video games. And some order a bunch of video game related objects off the internet and I think I want to get into the video game related niche.

Ok, So I've just finished this section... and I know (w/o a doubt) that I want to get into the CAT niche. Both my wife and I absolutely LOVE cats, we are super passionate about everything to do with cats; from training techniques, to the best toys, food, litter... you name it we're into it.

That said, because I know that the overall niche of "cat" is FAR too broad... I'm curious how far into a specific micro cat-niche I should dive; especially since, in the end, I'd really love to be in a bunch of different cat-related niches.

So do I start with a more specific cat-niche (i.e. "cat litter", etc), and can later build even more specific niches sites... and then one day potentially link them all together? Or would I start broader to encompass more at the start?

You definitely need to dive a bit deeper Tyler ... For example food, health, toys and accessories ...

Here are a few tips that can help you to evaluate your ideas

I don't exactly know a lot on this, but I think that maybe you should start on the more specific, such as cat litter, and then make more specific sites. But that's just me. I'd get more feedback from more folks and see their POV. Good luck to you!

I am trying to decide on a niche as I commented on and would like some feedback. I think I would like to do something with nutrition. Is that too broad a topic? Do I need to narrow it down further? My other two options are sports and cooking? If I could get some assistance on making my final decision, I would greatly appreciate it.
Reply

Nutrition ties naturally into cooking and sports (ie exercise). You could start with nutrition, and based on the tie ins or not, extend to the other areas incrementally. (On the flip side, start with 'subcategories' and build to nutrition). Are you a 'high level view first' kind of person or do you like building in blocks (units)?

What would you feel most comfortable with over time?

Marie

Yeah I would say it is broad if you can narrow it down to types of nutrition used in different sports and/or exercise...maybe or with cooking maybe something in the line of nutrional recipes used for the various sports minded participants?

Nutrition is a great choice, on Amazon you will find different sub niches that you can choose from but you will have to be specific and choose one e.g food for athletes, Gym people, Babies etc or even devices we use to make nutritious foods like blenders, pots and more. Go on Amazon and search nutrition and start your product research until you find what you are passionate about..

I played sports all of my life and played baseball in college so I know I would be really good with a sports category. I also love to cook but have no formal training in it, so I would love to learn more about it so I think that would be a good niche as well, but I think I want to start out with a nutrition niche web site. Do I need to be more specific within that category? Also, how many niche web sites can I have?

Just my 2 cents pretty new at this but so exciting and feeling like I'm a sponge..

but can someone correct me if I'm wrong..

the way the program works its unlimited in niche. you have to manage them. But again having so many niche it would take away from the focus and fine tuning to maximize the potential. My game plane is to start with 3 you have a web manger in your tools area that helps manage those sites. The 3 I am referring to will be just test pages to see which pulls the most. Obviously they will be something I am interested in.. can"t really do the research and writing on a bland uninteresting subject. But to answer your main question you can absolutely have a varied amount of niche and have as many as you can imagine.,

just from my understanding of this program and I am new 2 days old..

Hope that helps.

I watched this video and making money online, am I right to assume that you ONLY focus on affiliate marketing to make money? This was not what I expected. I am hoping to make money selling my own products, (which will be physical products to start, but I want to move into selling digital products and teaching courses etc) , i would like to set up a few affiliates to relevant products, but that is not my sole focus..

Although there’s an emphasis on affiliate marketing you can take the lessons here and apply them to your own products. There’s also many other trainings that are product focused vs affiliate marketing focused. You’re still in a great place.

Though the training does focus mainly on affiliate marketing, you can still do whatever kind of website you like. There are many members who have websites that are just information only and others that are doing an ecommerce website.

Many of the website building aspects like SEO and keyword research apply to each type of website and are not exclusive to affiliate marketing. So the choice is yours when it comes to the type of website you wish to create.

The biggest question I have right now is if I should start now.

I ask this because I am still 16 and in high school. Should I wait till i'm older (and finish high school and college)? or start affiliate marketing as soon as possible and learn as much as I can?

thanks XD
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
Absolutely! Don't wait... the sooner you start the sooner you will become successful.

The only thing that may slow you down might (might!) be any age restrictions for a particular affiliate program, so watch for that, but otherwise you should be good to go. :-)

Definitely go for it. The younger you start, the better in my opinion.

You may need to have your parents/guardians sign up for some affiliate programs as most require you to be at least 18.

It takes time and consistent posts to build up an affiliate income. In a year or two, will you wish you had started now? If this is something that you're sure you want and you have the time to work on a site, there isn't much reason to delay.
Reply
Why wait if you can start now? The earlier, the better!
Reply
mistswitch Premium
I can think of several reasons potentially to wait - funds, time to do the work, consistent internet access (i.e. if the parent takes their computer for poor grades). Depending on the teenager's situation, it might make sense to wait. It would be irresponsible to suggest that someone (especially a minor), start if they know they can't afford WA long-term or don't have the time to do the work. There isn't instant pay here, it's an investment or a gamble depending how you look at it.

I'm confident that a teen can do the tasks here and that starting sooner is great if realistically possible but a teen might have barriers an adult doesn't have. I wouldn't have suggested that my daughter start here in high school because her income was minimal and not reliable. I wouldn't have wanted to pay for WA for her and she may not have wanted to carve such a large chunk out of her own money to pay for it.

The Question:
I don't understand how if you have a low QSR say of 4 and you have an AVG of 74 how that is good. In that, if only 4 people are promoting that specific keyword, would it not be suggestive that there is not a demand for a product with that specific keyword?

Merely a Thought:

I realize that there is a greater advantage of being a success with low competition, yet, if there is hardly anyone promoting something that in itself says a lot about the item/product. Don't you think?
Reply
Sharifa1088 Premium
Yes.
I'm trying to figure out the same thing. Haven't no one hasn't responded to my question. Good luck to you.
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
It doesn't necessarily say anything about the product as much as it's a reflection of the keywords people are typing into Google.

Some keywords have low QSR simply because it's not worth it for the bigger companies to go after those.

For example, Toyota is going after single words like "car" or "sedan"; they're not bothering with "2018 Toyota Tacoma, dual cab, 4 x 4."

At the same time, your AVG is going to be low because it's such a specific phrase.

But at this point in your business, you should be targeting these words exactly for those reasons. Low QSR means it will be easier for you to rank for those keywords. And, yes, your AVG isn't going to be anything to write home about, but something--anything--is better than nothing.

You'll never be competitive for the bigger and more popular words until you are generating sufficient traffic in the first place... this is how you do it. :-)
Reply
AbbasJamie Premium
The internet is huge and people are always looking for specific things. The fact that 74 people every month is searching for a keyword means it has potential. The low QSR just means many conpanies have not yet discovered it or focussed on something else. This means you must pounce QUICKLY and build up expertise and track record on that keywords

Hello everyone.
I'm fairly very new to WA. I'm soooo confused about the niche concept. Kyle firmly said choose SOMETHING I'm passionate ABOUT. I'm thinking about ways if helping people live a happier life or raising children. I googled both of these topics. Plus added the + affiliate niche. And I didn't get too far. Either I'm confused about the concept. Or maybe I need to think about a product style niche. Either way CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT IN THIS CATEGORY. PLEASE AAND THANKS

Reply
brenlee Premium
SHARIFAH, yes all these terms can become confusing. For myself, I looked the word 'niche' up in a dictionary, in Wikipedia,
and in my farourite little tool, 'WordWeb' [which can be found in the Google or the Microsoft Store.] This little tool will open as a small window and when you insert the word 'niche' it will display the meaning and several different ways that word is used.

Now about your passion for "either about ways if helping people live a happier life or raising children" I think that you first need to pick one of them. You can always go back and start a new website for the other one at a later time.

Whichever one you choose to focus on right now I believe that they both have a great potential in you finding let's say Affiliate programs related to the subject matter. Here again, you will need to narrow down your focus somewhat. For example, raising children; maybe you can narrow your focus on providing healthier lunches/snacks for children going to school. I am pretty sure that you would find volumes of content on that subject alone. You could have little contest for both moms [or dads] and the children: My favourite sandwich - Have mothers use a recipe exchange program on the site...maybe make it a membership group for a small fee - have a writing contest of their favourite vs. worst lunch ever for the children to do - - - -You could really have fun with this.

So, I'm sure you may be wondering how would you make any money doing this? For the specifics of setting these up you will have to talk to Kyle - Amazon ads [food kinds of stuff, toys ], go to Google and search out the phrase or some variation of: 'School children's lunch/snack Affiliate programs'.

Well, SHARIFAH, I got a bit long-winded in my writing here. Nonetheless, I hope that some of my thoughts and ideas you might find useful.

Bren

mistswitch Premium
It helps to break it down more. Living a happier life is general and very vague. So is raising children. So brainstorm.

If you were going to write a list of ways to live a happier life, what would be included? A common way is mindfulness and/or meditation so if you were comfortable with those topics, you might write posts about different mindfulness techniques. You could link to products like meditation benches, adult coloring books, and guided meditation audios. If you have a good speaking voice, you could even recorded guided meditation audio files and sell them. If living a happier life (to you) means religion or travel or whatever, write about those topics specifically and find keywords and products related to those things.

If you want to write about raising children, focus on an age group. With school age kids, you might write information posts about school lunches and homework tips and fun activities like the national park junior ranger program. For affiliate products, you might link to bento box lunch kits, toys your kids have reviewed, home schooling kits, or parenting magazines. You can make a similar list for your preferred age group and topics.

Deneez1,

I'm just curious about which training are you following? In the
"Online Entrepreneur Certification - Level 1" training each lesson has activities that you ought to be completing before you move on to the next lesson. Each lesson builds on the previous lesson. This set of lessons is basically showing us how to create a professional website which, generally speaking, is necessary to have when doing affiliate marketing.

In my experience, one of the most aggravating situations I faced was not having a website. Some affiliate programs require to see your website before they will allow you to work with them.

So, Deneez1, when you do the activity related to each individual lesson you will know the answer to your question of: "When and How to go ahead and get Started!". Because you will have Started!

In my 5+ years here at WA, the free keyword research has served me well. If you wish yo spend more money, you will get extra perks beyond that of keyword research. Personally I do not need more than finding out the QSR and KQI, which I can get with the free version.

Hi kindi.

Choose a Niche that you're most passionate about. Then do your research on different topics within that Niche.

I would recommend that you narrow it down a bit, what aspect of "singing" or "fashion" do you want to help people out with? Learning to sing? Singing courses? Karaoke? Same with fashion? Men's shoes? Women's make up fashion trends? etc.

Again Kindi, Kyle explains all that so well. The classes are very comprehensive and they are really similar to building a house. The first class lays the foundation, the second builds the outer walls, the third shows you how to attach the outer walls to the foundation, how to raise the walls..see what I mean? so, don't get ahead of yourself, just read the lessons, because it's all there just when you need it. I stressed about the same things unnecessarily.

These beginner lessons were great, but...
Other than setting up the very basic set up of the website, the free training doesn't teach you how to find potential "business partners" at all, which is essentially the "income" of this business, and what I was looking for the most.

I am a completely newbie when it comes to websites, or computer at all.

I don't even know how to put an image on the page that I just created, nor how to link them.

With that said, unless I subscribe to premium membership, my website is gonna be basically useless, until I learn how to do those things somewhere else??

So basically its free, but its not really free.

Hi Chris, one way to check the viability of a niche is to see whether you can find lots of blogs dedicated to the topic. So you can try Googling "RC Rock Crawling blogs" or something similar and see what comes up (here's one for example: bestrccrawler.com). Also, remember that you'll be writing dozens upon dozens of articles for your given niche, so think whether RC rock crawling is big enough of a niche to warrant that amount of content. Hope that helps!

As a general topic idea it's good, but as a niche you're right; it's a little too broad.

One way to narrow it down is to think about how you might differentiate yourself from all the other self-development "gurus" out there.

For example, If I'm looking for self-help advice, why should I come to you instead of, say, Tony Robbins or Brian Tracy?

And I don't mean that to sound as if they are somehow better than you, but to help you try to identify what makes you unique.

Make sense?
Reply
Yes, absolutely.

That's great advice and don't worry because those two you mentioned are way ahead of me right now, but they also ask for $25k a individual session if I am not mistaken :) My target audience would be in the lower leagues for now.

You're completely correct though, the need to find a unique niche is the most important.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it.

This is so exciting. I just built my first website on WA platform. The process took under 2 minutes. Like was said in the video, I didn't have to overthink it.
I know I can always change the look and feel as the site evolves.

1.Does an app count to be a niche?
The problem is this app is free to use basic function. So, you will only pay extra money if you need some advanced functions.
So i'm not sure whether those customers are going to pay or not.
2. Second, I heard from someone that those customers need to buy products in 24 hours after they click the link from your website. In other words, the time for those costumers to buy those product will just last for 24 hours after they click the link on your website. However, it's not common for people to download a somehow free app and swiftly buy some extra function. They don't even know whether this app is user-friendly or not for every individual.

an app per se is not a niche. A niche is a group of people who are interested in a subject. So let's say the app is a meditation app then your niche would be meditations. Hope this makes sense.

You need to think about what interests you and about what is profitable. A niche has a lot of problems and it for instance weight loss and make money online. They also have a lot of solutions to the problems. So are looking for your niche you are looking for something with a lot of problems, a lot of people with those problems and a lot of solution to those problems. If you get people who repeatedly by solutions then that is also a bonus

What do you mean that an app is a niche? Do you plan to create a site that only refers to an app? Will you create content only about that app?
Reply
Katkatskitchen, thank you for siting an example. however, i don't really get it. I'll check some information first. After that, if I still have question , I'll post it on WA.

I think I may have asked this question earlier. Kyle says the comment section supports 3 to 5 comments. How would I gain access to other comments on my blog. This is important as I am setting up my blog as a discussion forum. All comments will be important. Thanks for answers.

Your comment section will support as many comments as you get. I have posts on my sites within 100's of comments, and through time you likely will too.

I am having a blonde moment - LOL - I have set up my widgets on the side menu of my website but ----- within the widgets are the About Us and Privacy Policy. Now I figure that I have set these up as pages when they should be POSTS - how do I change this .... as I said having a very blonde moment LOL

Hi,
Those pages you have Privacy and About us are mostly kept as a pages.

Mine are pages and not posts. So what you have done is correct.

However there is a plugin you can use to change it if you want too. I would just do a copy and paste and delete the latter.

Your ok on having these as pages your on the right path. I hope that helps you.
Debs :)

Deb is correct, the About you and Privacy policy should be Pages, sitting in a widget or menu. A Post belongs in a blog roll. I have no clue why Kyle gives directions to have the About Me as a Post. You can check out my website, from my profile to see how I have done it. I used to have my Disclaimer and Privacy Policy in my main Menu, but when I needed the room, I moved them to widgets.

I am planning on making my niche on travel. It is a subject I am passionate about as well as the main reason for joining this program. I want to become my own boss so I can do more traveling and explore the world. I can break this subject down into a ton of different traveling products. Do you think that I can incorperate certain airlines and plane tickets under this niche also? I am still on subject one so I haven't gotten to far in to learning much about how to do that. Any advise or suggestions for me?

Hey, I think that's a great start for a niche!

I'm still relatively new at this as well, but from what I know, I think it's a great idea to niche down even more. The travel niche itself is quite broad, and already pretty saturated. Something of a similar size would be a website about cooking, you know?

Maybe ask yourself if there is a specific area under the topic of traveling that fits with you, such as traveling on a budget, or traveling in a certain part of the world, food-related travel, or traveling for a specific lifestyle. Then I think you'll be able to get a bit clearer on what angle you are approaching?

I'm not sure about plane tickets, but perhaps someone else here can answer that for you.

Travel is an excellent niche as it is quite popular (meaning lots of potential customers out there). Because of that, however, it is also very competitive. As such, focus on what it is that makes you different. For example, if I can buy plane tickets anywhere, why should I buy from you? Think about what makes your offer unique.

As far as the learning goes, just take your time and trust the process. There is a lot to learn, but if you take each lesson one at a time and make sure to do the tasks at the end of each one you will do well.

That is a good niche.everybody likes to travel.

When I watched your videa and you were taking about activating the 2 plugins I noticed that there was only the 2 plugins there but I'm going through my tasks and I have activated the 2 plugins but there's a 3rd plugin there aswell, it was there automatically, it's called "classic editor" and the only 2 options it has are deactivate or settings, what should I do with this?.
Thank You

Kelly-ann,
Being a new member I would learn to use Gutenberg over
the Classic Editor and do not activate it - eventually this is
what we all are going to have to use so you might be best
starting out with it :)

Loved the video, only have one comment about it. At 10:22 the video gets digitalized looking and stops playing. Sound can still be heard but the video portion freezes. You miss out on the comparison of what the page would look like if paragraphs were not implemented. Not hard to find out for yourself of course, just wanted to let you know :)

You can just leave these as "default" in their original state.

Within your WP-admin area, head to:

Settings => General

You can update your title and subtitle (Just Another Wordpress..) there and change it to whatever you like. Hope this helps you out here.,

I know someone will say there's no stupid question. But it still feels like a have a lot of them. So I'm on lesson 6 and need to fill in the "Home Title" section, which is supposed to be my website title and a few more words Kyle says to make it captivating. However these few more words won't show up on the site. Well, if they don't show up on the site, why do they have to be "captivating"?

I'm probably a questionnaire as some friends refer me, sorry to bug you with more questions. These are:

1. Are there other juicy incentives attached to being a marketer for Wealthy Affiliate aside the Las Vegas program? If there are kindly help list them.

2. Any prepared sales pitch template that exemplifies all the incentives to modify so as to speed up launching?
