You have definitely made the right choice in joining the community here at Wealthy Affiliate.

In the coming days and weeks we are going to be showing you how online success works and we will help you realize your own potential within the Internet space to earn revenue and leverage the internet to grow a business.

Before we continue, we want to emphasize a few things:

(1) Anyone can accomplish success online. There are 2 billion people using the Internet, regardless of the direction you head online there is a very large number of people there that you can connect with. Members here at WA succeed at the highest rate out of any platform online!

(2) Anything NEW can appear to be overwhelming at first. It is normal to feel overwhelmed but you will quickly get the hang of things! Stick with Wealthy Affiliate and you will achieve, and exceed your goals.

(3) You do not need any experience or an existing online business. If you have experience that is great, but it is definitely not a requirement here at Wealthy Affiliate. Everything related to online business can be learned here within your membership.

(4) Success is not an event. Success is very cumulative in nature. This means that everything you do now, and every step you take will contribute towards your personal success in the future.

A Quick Look at How YOU Will Be Creating Success

Success online is at the core a 4 step process nothing more complex than this and this is exactly what you are going to be learning here at Wealthy Affiliate.

Broken, down, the process looks like this:

Step 1: Choose an Interest

Step 2: Build Your Website

Step 3: Get rankings in search engines (leads to traffic)

Step 4: Earn $$$ from your traffic

As you go through the training, this is going to be covered in detail. Very exciting stuff and as mentioned, absolutely EVERYTHING you need is here at WA to facilitate this process.

Before we go any further...

We want to give you two simple pieces of advice within the Wealthy Affiliate community.

Piece of Advice #1: Do not be afraid to ask questions!

Piece of Advice #2: Take action on what you learn!

We don’t want to put too much pressure on you and definitely do not want to overwhelm you as you get started, so we are going to give you three simple tasks to perform (as noted below). Spend a few minutes today and complete these tasks! :)

You are currently reading lesson 1 of a 10 lesson Getting Started Course. This course is going to step you through the process of getting started. It will answer all of the questions that you have about earning money on the Internet, and will reveal exactly how to do it.

In this Lesson you will become involved and immersed within the awesome community at Wealthy Affiliate. This is a community that cares about your success, and one where you will create wonderful relationships within the industry. You will soon learn that you can SUPERCHARGE your learning and ultimately, your success by being active in the community, and immersing yourself.

This starts with uploading a picture, adding a few words about yourself in your profile description, and getting involved in a live chat with others. These tiny steps are referred to as your "Account Setup" tasks which we will discuss below in a little more detail.

Right now, there is no reason to delay your training, let's get started with your Tasks for today.

Task 1: Watch The Walk Through Video Below

Your first task today is to watch the Wealthy Affiliate Walk-through video. This video will walk you through Wealthy Affiliate, show you how to find your way around, show you how to get help, and ultimately show you how WA will help you succeed within the online world.

DISCUSS THIS VIDEO HERE: Wealthy Affiliate Walkthrough - How YOU Can Benefit From WA

At any time if you have questions as you are watching the Wealthy Affiliate Walkthrough video, simply leave them in the comments section below the video and we will be more than happy to help you out. Remember, there is a TON of help available whenever you need it.

Task 2: Complete Your Account Set-up

Your final task for today is to set-up your Wealthy Affiliate account. I have created a quick video walk-through showing you how to set-up your account:

DISCUSS VIDEO: Setting Up Your WA Account is EASY

Setting up your Wealthy Affiliate account only includes two items:

(1) Adding a profile image (can be anything you want)
(2) Adding a personal description

This may seem very simple (and it is), but there are definite reasons that you are going to want to complete the account set-up process. Here are some benefits to setting up your account:

  • Leads to better networking within the community
  • Your “followers” within the community will go up at least 5x (in some cases)
  • People are more willing to help you if you have a profile
  • Adds a level of credibility within the community
  • Shows others that you are serious about SUCCESS

Immerse yourself within Wealthy Affiliate and you are going to experience a lot more success. It is a rare day within WA when you don’t get to brush shoulders with millionaire marketers hanging out within the community, so take this serious and make your profile (people’s first impression of you) a good one.

Task #3: Understand Your Membership

You have a Starter Membership. This is the starting point of your success online. You get a good deal of access with the Starter level membership, but you need to know that there is MUCH MORE to be found at WA.

There are huge benefits to going premium when you are ready. Your last task for today is to take a second to learn about our Premium membership and how it differs from the Starter program.

Find More Out About Premium Here!

You are in good hands here at Wealthy Affiliate regardless of whether you are Starter or Premium. We are here to help you achieve success online and that is our ultimate goal. If you are willing to work at this and don’t expect success overnight, I can assure you that you will create a successful website, business, and long term income within the online world here at Wealthy Affiliate.

Make us a Promise OK?

We want you to make us a promise today. We want you to give Wealthy Affiliate a chance first and foremost. We know that you may have had bad experiences online in the past and we want you to allow us to prove ourselves to you.

We care about YOU and we care about YOUR personal success more than you think.

Do we have a deal? :)

Again, we want to personally welcome you to the community and we look forward to helping you achieve success online, and far exceeding your expectations :)

Your friends,

Kyle & Carson

I currently have a WP website hosted through Host Gator. I had bought the Divi theme and installed on my desktop. When I try adding this theme to the Site Builder in WP, it's giving me an error. Please tell me it supports the Divi theme! I am so used to working with it. Or is there another similar theme available through WA?
Reply

Divi is supported but it is to large a theme to load the normal way. You either have to load the theme by ftp or use a plugin that allow loading large files. Appearance>Theme>Add New and search for load large files.

Hi, my niche is in the fitness market for 30-35 year old Dad’s that want to get back into shape, increase their energy, strength and get leaner.

My question is around, how do I try and make sure that my target audience is landing on my page, because the keyword searches would be similar to an 18 year old guy looking for help, i.e. lose belly fat or get abs etc?

Thanks for any help in advance
Reply
littlemama Premium
You would add the word Dads or Fathers in your post titles.
Reply
Thanks very much for the reply

Do you think that a Dad is going to type in, "How do I lose belly fat" or "How do I lose belly fat for Dad's"?

I was thinking that it would more likely be the former.

I want to change my theme but when I go to customise posts etc it only gives me 4 choices. I am a premium member
Also want to change the name that appears on my site, how do I do that.

Also want to change my email address how do I do that?

Sandy, go to appearance and then click on themes. There should be something on the top that indicates you can see the most popular or all themes etc.
As to changing your email, you do that in the blue Rubix area. Once you change your theme you will want to customize it and you can change the name that appears on your site.
Hope this helps a litte.

I choose several long tail keywords and looked them up on Google. The entire first page of Google is monopolized by Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot. This includes paid image ads on the top of the page, organic listings, and paid text ads on the bottom of the page. Walmart ads are everywhere. Any advice? I read that page 2 on Google is not used much by shoppers..

If that keyword is dominated by such sites, then choose another. There's no point using that keyword phrase.

I'm using the theme "Ascent" for my site. I appreciate if you can tell me how I can remove the unwanted default content associated with the theme, such as "Date of posting" on the left, "Search", "Archive", "Meta" on the right and bottom as well as the "Page" title on the bottom.

Many many thanks.

best way is to search on google like-- "theme name"+"customize" tutorials.

I found several long tail qualifying keywords. But I am noticing that on the first page of Google several companies like Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, and Best Buy are completely monopolizing everything with paid ads, image ads and ranking organically.
Looks like the only remote hope to rank is the second page of Google. Also when many people see the word 'Walmart' they think it's the best deal. I frankly don't know how to get around this!

You can outrank these sites, absolutely. The thing is that Google has to popular EVERY search term with rankings, even if there isn't anything that is all that related (just closely related).

I outrank these types of sites all day and you cannot fear the first page of rankings, you are going to be able to achieve these.

If you are targeting "broad" keywords that is a different story, but if you are focusing on lower competition rankings, you can absolutely rank with those.

Regarding the 4 Robots that we need to click at the end of the privacy policy editing page. it shows only 2 Robots not 4 as in the tutorial? How can I have all 4 robots.
I do have the "ALL in one SEO pack", why I see only 2 robots; Robots Meta NOINDEX and Robots Meta NOFOLLOW
only.
I dont see/have the other two?
Reply

@ihani, see my screenshot. Do you not see the 2 items below
the first 2 robots, as shown in mine?

Not sure why that is. Do you have the sitemap feature activated in the All in One SEO plugin. That could be one reason.

If you have a small screen, you might need to close the little arrows on fields above the SEO data to make more room to see it

I want my privacy and disclosure pages to show in the sitemap, so I do not tick the 2 additional boxes.

I hve a few questions. My niche is pet foods and accessories, thats what I set up in first few lessons. But I really dont want that for my website name, can I do that? Or will it be bad to do that. If it is ok, do I hve to change the page I set up in the first couple lessons? Or just in the plug ins psge?

I hve many things to write some of my ideas are new products, foods never to give to your dogs, training tips, health concerns, lots of things, but not sure how to do the discriptions, in the plug in page. Do I hve to change the name anywhere else

Can I put a place to save all my previous blogs, so people can go back and read previous blogs?

Also can I hve a place for people to send in there petd pictures a nd introductions about the pet?

I posted this before but think I deleted it, if its hear twice please forgive me

You can change the name of your website by going into the customize theme tab on your website, but your website name and website URL should match.

If you you give me your website URL, I will go and take a look and give you some suggestions if you want.

I'm not sure what you mean by change descriptions in the plug ins page. All of those topics you mentioned will make great article posts. You seem to have chosen an excellent niche. Each one of the ideas you mentioned could have its own section-you would do this by working on your menu, but I would recommend waiting until you get to that point in your training. It is always best to take one step at a time. take each lesson as it comes and complete each task required. By the time you get to the lesson teaching you about how to tweak your menu, you will be ready.

I don't know what theme you are using, but most, if not all themes archive previous posts. They will be listed and available for people to go back to.

To provide a place for people to send in pictures of their pets and introductions about their pets, you could use a plug in called Buddy Press. I personally have not used it, but several others in the community have.

All the best to you,
Kathy

Kathy, In a class we had to set up site with theme and url which I put petfoodandaccessories, Kyle said to use what ever our niche is, should i change that to what i want for my website name?
Than in the last lesson we did, we had to get the site seo ready so we had to go to activate seo plugin and go down and add the home page name and a discription, which I did that tonight and put Everything Pets
Would you use pet food and accessories or everything pets?
I guess my url is petfoodandaccessories,

I think I will keep theme I hve.I would like to use one with a dog on the page but guess it doesnt matter.

Is it possible to have a "blog" with video reviews instead. I basically want to be a Guinea pig for people and review weight loss and beauty products as well as give certain tips and tricks.

Am I completely off target here? Is this something I can build from this website? This is just an idea of mine right now I like talking more than typing :)
Reply

Yes that is possible. I would recommend you connect with other bloggers doing the same thing. In the training covering feedback and comments you will get to share your site and get real feedback and recommendations. This can be invaluable when you really need advice on what is wrong and what you got right. Asking the community will be helpful too. Good luck.

If I create a web site name/domain name in WA, and then transfer that site to WA premium paying membership, does the name change; for example: hungergames dot siterubix dot com becomes hungergames dot com when a customer searches in google for the words "hunger games" and sees in the search bar , the web site name without "siterubix dot com" as a part of the url address. thanks.
Reply
timtex0077 Premium
no. you have to purchase the slimmed down for 10 to 15 dollars a year. You can purchase it from WA or Google or godaddy or whoever. Then you "move" your siterubix site to your URL after all of the DNS server settings are set up. Hope this helps!
Reply
NeBro Premium
Hi Mary, short answer, no.

What you get with premium membership, is access to all that WA has to offer, which includes hosting and the creation for up to 25 SiteRubix subdomains and hosting for up to 25 of your own domain names, such as the .com you mention.

The domain names you like and want to use, such as maryisonline.com, you would need to purchase this, either from WA/SiteDomains or from another registrar of your choosing.

If you start out with a .siterubix.com subdomain and later want to change to your own domain, you will need to migrate the site, you can do this from inside WA if you are using the hosting here, and this will either require you have a domain name registered with SiteDomains, or that you have a domain registered elsewhere that is pointed here at WA/SiteHosting.

Just by going premium, will not change the URL from .siterubix.com to .com.

Hope that helps.

how much does it cost

Hi eblash, as we have no idea what 'it' is, I will take a guess.

Cheeseburgers are about $1.49.

Domains, 99c to $5000 or more depending on what you buy and from where.

Standard names here cost about $13.99 and the most I have seen was $455.99 but I stopped looking so I would assume it is possible there are more expensive ones too.

Membership, free for the trial period and thereafter, premium membership, is $19 for the first month after your first week, and then either $49 per month or $359 per year.

What steps should I follow when starting a blog? I don't believe or think that you should start your blog site/website with choosing a niche. No, the first essential step to me is to do a thorough self-evaluation. It just doesn't make sense to me to even think about your target niche before knowing your own individual strengths/weaknesses, experience, skills, interests and passions. So, my order of steps is: self-analysis > (target) market research > niche research and selection > creating blog or website > creating content > monetizing blog or website. What do you think?
Reply
MIROAR Premium
I agree but i think for most people self analysis goes inside the niche research part. I think it is a great idea to self-evaluate first like you said because i think a lot of people jump the gun and settle on a niche they think they are great in only to find out they don't really have much to say. Great tip! :)

Hi Craig, please help me on tips on how to do a thorough self-evaluation. I have started my free site but I have concluded that I felt lost when I got to lesson 9. Thanks in advance.
Reply

A niche is a subset of a broader target market. I don't agree with the statement that you should find your direction by starting with a niche. Not at all. You find your direction first by doing a complete self-evaluation first. Then, you don't go to researching and choosing a niche next. Before you choose a niche, you must do adequate market research first. Since your niche is a segment of your overall target market, the target market research come first.

Brent the fact you can navigate to it confirms your indexing. No, you did not do anything wrong.

Which browser are you on? What is your URL.

Chrome sometimes does this, If you want search results, then use the search box of the browser and not the address bar.

Also if you have instant nav, aka, taken instantly to the site, which it sound like you may have, you can type the first part of your name and you should get a page with a search box at the top, type you full URL into that and you should get search results.

Or you can try typing http://google.com and then type into the search box. OR put your URL in " like this "URL"

Hi Christopher, it is not a question, it is a task, and one that is fundamental to your forward movement, how will you know what to name your website, choose a domain name, which keywords to choose, what content to write, how to structure your website if you have no idea about what your niche will be?

Make a list of all the things that interest you, pick something you are passionate about, something you can talk to us about for hours and hours and do it again tomorrow or the next day and next week, most of us have at least one thing we can bang on about.

If you have no passion or interest in your niche you will almost certainly fail, and if you cannot come up with a single thing, then consider going through Bootcamp course and promoting WA.

Read this And this I would suggest you tackle this now, aka, before you move on and pls post back if you need more input from us.

Hello Christopher,
First of all, welcome to WA! In your profile, you mentioned you wanted to learn. You will do that here.

The lessons are always available to you, but I do not recommend skipping any. Each lesson builds on the next.
What are you passionate about? Do you have a hobby? Perhaps there is an area where you have expertise.

The answer to any of these questions could be a possible niche for you.
Kathy

Do the lesson and keep it in mind. You don't have to select your best niche right now. Select something - maybe an item you recently purchased as a consumer - lol - and use it as a
TEST niche site.

At this stage, I would build it on a free Siterubix site, not on a domain you buy. You can even give it the title Test Niche Site...lol. If you like it, you can always transfer the content to your own domain later - it's easy to do.

There's a ton of training on niche selection, which you can do when it is the right time for you.

This might help guide your thinking: ~Jude

I have a couple questions before I began to learn how to build my own website. I don't know if these questions will be answered in the tutorial forgive me if they are

1. Why is there a need to own 50 websites? That just seems like a lot to keep up with. Should I have one website per niche assuming I will eventually have several niches? Is it a bad idea to have only 1 website?

2. I am on the started trial but I do intend on going premium. If I have my website created and running by tomorrow (assuming that's possible), what will happen when I decide to go premium by the end of the week? Will all of my information and progress still be here?
Reply
NeBro Premium
Hi Cilver.

You don't need to have 50 websites, you just have space for 50.

That's 25 SiteRubix subdomains and 25 for your own domains.

Many hosting plans offer multiple site ability, they are used for different businesses and ideas or related sites with slightly different content.

You are fine with 1 site, especially at the start of your journey, focus on quality, not quantity. You can create more sites, if you wish to, once you have learned your craft and understand the process and the amount of work involved.

Yes, your stuff will be there as will your progress.

Try this. Go to the page where you log in. In the upper right hand corner click on "Build a new website" Then click "On a domain I own" Click on use existing to use the domain.

That should allow you to build a new website on the domain you own. Now if you want your old site back, I don't recommend that, contact support and they will take care of it.

It think you'd be best off creating multiple sites for different niches. It would help with Google and it would also help in terms of getting a steady readership. The only way to do a very general review site would be to do a HUGE site that looks more like a magazine with a dozen posts per day so that each category would act like a blog.

There are so many niches' that when you pick one do it justice with a great website, and then gradually build more sites per niche
Reply

Start with one niche and one website and stick to it. You don't want to create multiple sites at this stage.

But you can review different products as long as they are in the same niche.

It does not make sense to review garden supplies, and then review the best mobile phone....those are 2 different niches.

But you can review different types of garden supplies and gardening tools and related products.

thinking about a specific health niche & promoting specific products that help with the problem. Concerned about writing content for such a web site since I am not a doctor, expert, just know about my own experience. Don't want to be giving out wrong information. Or get in trouble for saying something about a product or condition that is not completely accurate

I loved the video about getting the website SEO ready. I do have a question, however. Today when I was building my website, I wanted to add my social media links. As I was doing so, I got a glaring message on the screen from someone who said they were Microsoft and who said that I now had a virus. What??? I tried to X out of it, but my screen was frozen.

I shut everything down, restarted, did a virus check, and came up clean.

Does anyone know what this is?

If you are on Windows, are you using Windows Defender? Could it have been a Windows Defender Window? Likely not but worth asking.

Update your virus definitions just to make sure, then disconnect your PC from the internet, and run a virus scan...thats the first thing to do.

Microsoft does not make unsolicited contact with the consumer in this way, or directly unless you already have an outstanding support ticket, and they certainly do not do it via pop-up threats.

The popup is an intrusion and the fact it is already on your machine means you are at risk. It could be a browser extension/helper trojan for example, which means it may not get activated until you fire up the browser.

You should also run a scan with MalwareBytes, which is better at some detections of this nature, all depends on which AV and browser you are using and when the last deep scan was performed, but this is a good step anyway.

https://www.malwarebytes.com/

If you need more help then PM me with your OS edition/version, Antivirus app you are using, which browser you are using and when you last ran a scan, and if you have noticed any other odd behaviour, and if it happens again, send me a screenshot.

I am downloading Malwarebytes.
Reply
NeBro Premium
Yes, webroot is generally quite good and has been improving over the last 203 years, but it lacks some independent and definitive testing when compared to other suites, which makes it a little difficult to measure, and others have reported they have had to use an additional measure to keep their PC safe and clean, such a using Malwarebytes.

MalwareBytes works in a different way and is generally better with ZeroDay outbreaks and certain other infections and intrusions. I often use both Mbytes and a regular AV/Security suite.Though sometimes it does not help either and you have to take another approach, but it is worth running just to see if it picks anything up that your traditional AV has missed.

You can disable real-time protection in MalwareBytes if it is interfering with your AV, it is generally pretty good, and you will be downgraded to the free version after 14 days anyway, which will disable real-time by default.

I usually leave it on folks PCs because it is a very good last line of defence when dealing with infections already on the PC that have gotten around the main AV app, and it also works in Safe Mode which is a real bonus.

I would not recommend leaving it as your only AV engine nor as a replacement for a traditional type of AV engine, it is best used in tandem as an on demand scanner.

Many AV in their default are fine, but sometimes to get the best they require hardening, but of course this is a bit tricky when you do not know which options to tweak, so most folks do not bother with this.

Let us know if you get more issues.

Neil

Help! I downloaded it, quarantined the suspect files, and now I can't log into Microsoft account and can't access any of my files.
Reply
NeBro Premium
Elizabeth, you can go to the quarantine and release them, but try a restart if not done so already.

It sounds like you have a hidden intrusion going on, some virus trick the AV by masquerading as OS files and hiding and when they get found, they can cause issues.

For example, a classic one on Win 7 was to masquerade as Windows System Files and also hide in the system restore files, and stop you from using system restore.

What message do you get when logging into MS account/PC? And what message do you get when trying to access your files?

Sometimes for reasons, we won't go into here, after a scan, and on Win 10 and MS accounts you have to change your password, also try a restart if not already done so as some of the files could have been locked. If you cannot login into your PC with your MS account, your files will not generally be accessible to any other login unless specifically allowed, so that's why you cannot currently get to them.

Also, go into MalwareBytes and disable the real-time scanning, go into the app, navigate to 'Protection' and disable the top 4 entries in the Real Time protection.

Also check here https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/193593-cant-sign-into-my-windows-account-after-scan/

For advanced use https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-security/cant-login-my-microsoft-account-after-malware/9c46d7c2-11db-4ad6-9dcd-426a9d451fb3

DO NOT remove Malwarebytes or remove anything from quarantine at this point.

Send me a screenshot of your quarantine list if you can, in PM and can you confirm that your network is connected, aka, you are on your machine now and not working from another machine

Regards

Neil

It's probably a fake or spam pop up message. Do not respond to it, which is what you did, and you should be fine.

Clicking on the "x" to close it can actually plant the virus but it seems that you have closed down your computer in time. You can use an ad or pop up blocker and that would prevent those from showing up on your screen. ~Jude

Did you log out of WordPress? That's the first thing to do, then are you using the google search bar or the address bar, if you are using the address bar google will predict that you are typing in your website URL. Use the google search box and type in your keyword.

Hi Brent, AO is likely correct, you are still logged into WordPress, either log out, then nav back to your site, or try from a different browser if you are able.

I always use a different browser for working in and then navigating to, removes any 'in work' issues, also as AO says, try using the search box too.

Cole, hi, a Blog IS a website, well more specifically, a blog is a kind of website, of which there are a few, e-commerce, corporate, personal pages, blogs, etc. and to make matters more confusing, each of the types of website can have crossovers, so you can have a corporate site with a blog and an e-commerce site with a blog, and a blog with an e-commerce shopping cart...

What do you need help with?

Does it cost money to become a part of an affiliate program? I am hoping that it does not. I am watching the video on affiliate programs, but I am not seeing anything about money.

Also, does anyone know how to build a website that will have a translate feature in it? For one of my websites, I am choosing Chinese audience.

Can you have more than one niche in your website? Is it better to focus on a specific niche, or have a general niche with a lot of sub-categories?
Reply

It definitely should NOT cost you money to join as an affiliate. If it does, you should beware!

The other thing is that you should focus on one niche on your website so as not to confuse people. You can always build another website. Keep your site very niche specific.

As for the translate feature, I have no clue. :)

Good luck!

Hi Steven,
I faced a similar dilemma. I had two ideas in my head. One was relating to hearing loss and the other was internet marketing. I thought the internet marketing would be the best for generating sales (promoting WA) but I opted to go with my real passion first and built my website around hearing loss.
I spent 5 months building this and went through the training. Once I had a solid foundation with this website I began to build the Wealthy Affiliate promoting one.
The hearing loss website was the first to generate sales for me and continues to do so on a regular basis.
The wealthy affiliate site has just begun to bear fruit with a few referrals and sales.
The point I am making is that you don't know what niche will bear fruit first or the most. No niche is a sure thing on its own.
It is the time and effort we put into a particular niche that will bear fruit. No matter how promising a niche may sound, you have to be passionate about it and make your website an authority within it.
Sometimes the niche we think has the least potential can actually be the most profitable.
My advice is to go with the one you are most passionate about, the one you know you can be an authority in. Do that exclusively for a period of time until you have built a solid base.
Then you can look to either combine the two niche's within one website or you can begin to build a second site.
Good luck in whatever way you decide to go.

Hi Steve- I'm also facing the same dilemna of having 2 niches- one is weight loss for women and the other is plus size shoes for ladies. I suppose it does not matter really which one you start with as you have the choice to do more than one website. Try starting with the one you are more passionate about as you will have more to say about that and once you gain more experience and confidence in the business, then go for the next one. That is what I intend to do. All the best!!.

There are affiliate programs for everything so making an income will not be an issue either way because travel is a popular niche as well.

I would go for what you are more interested in first and then invest time into your alternative.

Hi I fear that I have made a mistake already. After creating my site "thebestplaceonearth.etc" I have now changed the title of my website to "Travel to Italian Lakes", following keyword research. All the keywords in my list (79 so far that meet the criteria) are relevant to Travel to Italian Lakes. I wish to stick with Italian Lakes as my niche. Should I delete the website and start a new one with teh words "traveltoitalianlakes" in it? And a secondary question, should I specialize further eg "Travel to Lake Garda" because there seems to be enough keywords to support that smaller niche? I recognise that a smaller niche is preferable but the traffic is obviously lower, so maybe I should stick to the wider area of "Travel to Italian Lakes" and battle it out in a larger field. Sorry for the long question - thanks in advance...

DON'T delete your site! Just to emphasize, the tile of your website doesn't matter, it will not affect the ranking. Keywords are important in the posts you create, so make sure to include them every time you write a new post.

Can I put links to Amazon products on my own site? I checked out their affiliate program and don't want them to make me a site. But what I read seemed like I had to choose, let them make me a site for free or pay a small amount to have links on my own site & profit when someone buys through my links.

First of all you have to apply to Amazon Associates for an account. Once you have been accepted you can then place links from Amazon onto your site and get paid when someone makes a purchase through your link. You do not have to pay any amount to have links on your site, but you will not get any commissions from any links from Amazon unless you have an Affiliate ID.

This is directly from Amazon.com Associates Page. After reading all of this, how do you place a link, tell anyone where it's going and still get paid? If you don't have an Amazon site, they are making it very hard to make money. You may want to look at their Updated Policies. They were just updated at the beginning of the month.

2. Disqualified Purchases

Notwithstanding the foregoing, Qualifying Purchases are disqualified whenever they occur in connection with a violation of this Associates Program Fee Statement or any other terms, conditions, specifications, statements, and policies that we may issue from time to time that apply to the Associates Program, including the most up-to-date version of the Associates Operating Agreement (collectively, the “Program Documents”). For example, no Program Fees are payable for a purchase that is not correctly tracked or reported because the links from your Site to the Amazon Site are not properly formatted, or for a purchase through a Special Link that violates the terms of the Program Documents.

Additionally, the following purchases that would otherwise be Qualified Purchases are disqualified and excluded from the Associates Program:

(a) any Product purchased after termination of your Associates Operating Agreement,

(b) any Product order that is canceled or returned,

(c) any Product purchased by a customer who is referred to an Amazon Site through any advertisement that you purchased through participation in bidding or auctions on keywords, search terms, or other identifiers that include the word “amazon”, or “kindle”, or any other trademark of Amazon or its affiliates (see a non-exhaustive list of our trademarks here, Prohibited Paid Search Placement”),

(d) any Product purchased by a customer who is referred to an Amazon Site by a link that is generated or displayed on a search engine (including Google, Yahoo, Bing, or any other search portal, sponsored advertising service, or other search or referral service, or any site that participates in such search engine’s network),

(e) any Product purchased by a customer who is referred to an Amazon Site by a link that sends users indirectly to the Amazon Site via an intermediate site, without requiring the customer to click on a link or take some other affirmative action on that intermediate site (a “Redirecting Link”),

(f) any Product subject to a Bounty Event (as defined in Section 4(a) of this Fee Statement, with the corresponding related Special Program Fee) or purchased in a subscription (other than the initial purchase of the subscribed Product), and

(g) any Product purchased by a customer, where such customer does not comply with the terms and conditions applicable to the Amazon Site.

are you saying that you can't get your website's title to appear at the top of your page? Within your theme's customizer one of the first things to edit is the title and tag line.

And if you created a menu in the old theme with pages or categories, and then you switch themes, you'd have to create a menu again in the new theme so that they show up.

Kyle,
I am thoroughly intrigued with these awesome informational videos so far. I have tried several times to "make it" onlline, but it hasn't worked.

So, as I think about promoting products, and Amazon, I have a question.

My professional niche is academic editing, business editing, writing, and of course teaching English and creating lessons that work.

So, do I go in that direction, or do I try to promote other products that simply interest me?

The problem with my field is that everything I do takes such a long time on my part. Editing academic writing takes time, and effort. So what niche can I find that maybe allows for some passive income?

Also, is it okay to create several totally different websites? One for my academic services, one for tech products that I love?

Thanks!

Phylis, you have not done anything wrong or made a mistake, so do not worry about that, you do not need a new theme or website, you can change your theme if you like but this is not the issue.

You have just not reached the lesson where you deal with menus and locations yet, as Eric says, Kyle covers everything you need and some of it comes in later lessons.

For now.

Make sure you have 3 things going on.

1 - your pages are published and not still in draft mode http://easywpguide.com/wordpress-manual/saving-and-publishing-content/

2 and 3 You need to have a menu setup and added to the 'Manage locations' http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-add-navigation-menu-in-wordpress-beginners-guide/ because some themes have multiple menu points so WP needs to be told which goes where for it to appear in the appropriate place.

Check out the tutorial by Labman And Kyle does a quick walkthrough in this lesson If this is not what you are looking for or does not fix your issue then pls post back.

Best wishes
