Search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo are after ONE thing. The most relevant, useful content.

If you can build out your website in a way that is ready for SEO (as discussed in the last lesson) and create quality, relevant content, you are going to have a bright journey ahead of you within the online world.

The thing that most people stress about is being a "writer", you DO NOT have to be a writer to be successful online.

You simply need to communicate with your audience, the same way that you would with a friend or a family member. And if you put the emphasis on helping people, you are going to be able to build trust, which is going to lead to long term and sustainable success online.

SiteContent, a Writer's Dream Platform!

As both a Starter/Premium member, you have access to the SiteContent platform here at Wealthy Affiliate. This platform offers you some incredible features as a writer that will lead to more efficiency, accuracy, and speed with your content creation.

You can access the SiteContent platform through the Websites menu.

SiteContent offers you some unbelievable features that are going to make your life as a "blogger" much more efficient.

  • 100's of critical grammar and spelling checks
  • Duplicate content checker
  • Automated publishing directly to your website
  • Writing goals and accomplishments
  • SEO analysis and checks
  • Content structure analysis
  • Ability to template content
  • Vocabulary enhancement suggestions

This is where you are going to be creating all of your content moving forward. You will be setting writing goals and leveraging the "feature rich" platform for writing. If you are worried about your writing skills, the SiteContent interface is going to help you understand where you are making writing errors and help you correct them in a very efficient manner.

It is going to be your go to writing tool moving forward and it is exclusive to Wealthy Affiliate members only!

I have created a little walk-through video called "Creating Your Initial Website Content (Framework), showing you around the platform and how to best benefit from it. Watch the video below.

Task 1: Creating Your "About Me" POST

To establish a brand online in any niche, you need to build trust with your audience. The best way to initially do this is through an "about me" style page. Every successful website will have some information about their brand, who they are and why they want to help people.

Your first task today is going to be to create your About Me page and you are going to be doing this directly within the SiteContent platform.

Within your Templates tab, you are going to see that you already have the framework for your About Me page already outlined.

Simply click on the About Me template and it will take you into the SiteContent editor. This is where you will be creating your content for your About Me page.

The first thing you are going to want to do is choose a title that is appropriate for your about me page. There are several options that I suggest you choose from in terms of your naming convention.

  • About Me
  • About NAME (ex. About Kyle)
  • About SITE (ex. About Calorie Method)
  • About Us

The most natural and the option that I have always used because I feel it resonates and creates the most trust is "About Me" or "About Kyle", because it is the most direct. It feels like I am here for you and I am here to help (which is the case with every site I create).

Then you will want to populate the content. Do know that this is just a guideline, as you edit this post you can add new headings and of course you are in full control of the content and your story.

This is not a rigid exercise here, you are YOUR OWN brand and you can build out your content in any way you like, but this will give you a good guideline here.

After you're are done doing this you will be clicking the Publish button in the right corner, just above your editor. This is going to allow you to publish directly to your website (see below).

Upon clicking Publish, you will get a pop-up that will allow you to choose how you want to publish the content. This is a 4 step process.

Step 1: You will want to choose your website that you want to Publish to, in this case it will be my "caloriemethod.siterubix.com" website.

Step 2: Choose "Post", not a "Page". The reason is all POSTS allow for comments on them and this is a page on my website where I am going to want to allow people to leave comments and feedback. Pretty much every article you publish moving forward will be done so as a "Post".

Step 3: Choose the user. If this is a new site, you will likely only have an Admin user. That is fine, choose that as your user.

Step 4: Choose the URL plug. Leave it "as is". You shouldn't need to change your URL plug, this is something that you can leave.

Then Click Publish. Upon doing so, SiteContent is going to run a duplicate content check, and then publish the content to your website. Since you wrote your About Me page it will be 100% unique.

Task 2: Adding Your "Privacy Policy" PAGE

All major affiliate programs and all advertising platforms require that you have a "Privacy Policy" on your website. This is a formality more than anything and it is very much a standardized document.

You are going to want to load up the Privacy Policy Template from your templates.

Upon doing so, you will get a standardized Privacy Policy page. You are just going to need to make a few edits within the content to update this Privacy Policy and make it relevant to your website.

Change YOURSITE.com => Your Website URL

In the case of my website, I changed it to caloriemethod.siterubix.com. There about 10-11 instances of this that you will need to update within the Privacy Policy.

Then you will want to change:

Change [EMAIL ADDRESS] => Your Email Address

This could be any email you want, you could even create a free gmail account for the purpose of this. Or if you don't feel comfortable leaving your email at the moment, this can be something that you provide to people at a later date.

Upon updating the [YOURSITE.com] and [YOUR FIRST NAME] at [EMAIL ADDRESS] to your website details, you will want to Publish the Privacy Policy to your website.

Publish as a Page.

The reason you want to create this as a Page, is that you don't want your privacy policy being published to your "blog roll" which is on your homepage.

You are all set with your first few pages of content on your website. If you have any questions about the creation of your "about me" or "privacy policy" pages, leave them below.

Kudos to you for your hard work thus far, in the next lesson we are going to be covering navigation on your website and how to create custom menus. ;)

Tasks 0/3 completed
1. Watch the "Creating Your Initial Website Framework" Walk-through Video
2. Create & Publish Your "About Me" POST
3. Create & Publish Your Privacy Policy PAGE

As an individual with healthcare background, I have alsways have an passion for helping people manage diabetes. I have several family members that are diabetic. OI want to know, though, how can I market diabetes lifestyle programs and products without having diabetes myself? Can I sell something I myself do not require on a day to day basis? How can I say it works if I am not the ideal candidate to 'test-run' such products?

If yu come from a medical background does that mean you ar3e educationally qualified? That is the kind of qualifications needed to have a site for personal health related issues and recommending treatments.

If you are qualified as a medical professional obviously no one has everything they treat. But it is the education and experience that make it possible to help others..

Firstly as a niche is not a product vs a subject you would help people by giving them advice on an aspect, walk them through your journey and then promote products however relevant.

You may search Programs

Or

You can do a google search

Hi everyone, I was looking for advice please on Niche selection, I think that seems to be the stumbling block for a lot of people, certainly for me.
Looking at a lot of your articles and questions from other members I have finally (fingers crossed) picked a niche.

I was thinking about Camping, Camping guide for beginners, Basic / Essential equipment needed for camping.
I am from Scotland and love to get away as much as I can in the Outdoors so I thought this might be a good fit, my niche would focus mainly on Scottish camping.

Any thoughts or advice on this please?

Also I have found a domain name on Namecheap, can I purchase this and use it on my WA website?

Great endeavor, you ought to discuss an aspect of camping to a qualified group of people who would be your target audience.

Camping essentials for beginners or some other group you have in mind.

The more focused a niche website is starting out, the better chance it has to start having traction and traffic.

So you can start with one subcategory and once totally exhausted scale out. See example blog post below Please be aware you also need to create lots of content addressing issues related to your focused niche website.

Most important is to be passionate and genuinely interested in your niche You can purchase however please be aware that hosting is included with a premium subscription to the platform.

Thats great ,thanks for your time and advice again. I think I will try out the above as a niche "Camping essentials for beginners" I have to start somewhere. I am just unsure at this stage about picking a domain name ,
Do I pick one within WA ?or do I purchase a domain elsewhere without hosting?
For eg I seen a good fitting domain name on Namecheap, can I purchase the domain name itself and transfer it over to WA or would you recommend another idea?

Hello from Nottingham! As a free starter member, you can only use the free subdomain that you are given by WA.

You cannot purchase a domain either here or elsewhere, and have it hosted here, that is not included in the free starter package.

If you buy a domain without hosting, it won't be live on the Internet.

Thanks for replying Diane, so in Premium membership I can go ahead with the above question?

Yes, that is a very good niche especially if you choose your targeted audience as beginners because there is so much informational type posts that can be written. A great way to find questions to write informational post responses to is google search and answersocrates.com

Your paid premium membership covers the hosting of 10 websites. If you purchase your domain name from a 3rd party registrar the domain name DNS (data name servers) can be pointed to WA.

Congrats on becoming a premium subscriber.

You can use leandomainsearch dot com, you input a word and it gives you another

And a godaddy valuation tool to find a memorable name.

I'd also use this site namecheckr.com to check if the name is also available on social media platforms.

However nowadays domains are not so affected by SEO vs writing quality rich content with good choice of keywords, latter of which would rank you in the search engines.

I would always go for a dot com domain name vs dot net or dot org as people's perceptions when they start typing they would typically assume it is a dot com. And make sure it is spelled correctly as it cannot be edited once purchased.

I would not include dashes and check if the domain is copyrighted, trademarked and ' or registered to an established business.

You may transfer or point to WA servers (if transferring domain has to end in .com, .net or .org.

To update your domain DNS settings to point to WA. Here are the DNS settings.

ns1.mywahosting.com
ns2.mywahosting.com

These settings will be updated within your domain registrar (where you purchased your domain) after the transfer has taken place. To transfer your domain here you need login current registrar and fetch the EPP code, there's a one year charge of $15, privacy included. One year more will get added to your domain.

Also it has to have passed the grace period of 60 days.

Hi - you can stay as a free member for as long as you want but can only work on your free website for 6 months. You will also be limited to the first 10 lessons of each of the 2 training courses.

WA is a business like any other, and of course, its primary purpose is to make money! However, I don't know of any other platform that gives you a free website with free hosting, security certificate included.

In effect, the free membership allows you to experience the platform and decide if it's right for you without even inputting your credit card details.

Hi to everybody,
1. I need your expert advice and guidance please.
2. Unlike most other people, my website is not about just one single topic .
3. It is based on the broad niche "Heath and Fitness", with several categories in the top menu such as Nutrients, Weight Loss, etc
4. Under each of these categories there are several sub-niches in a dropdown menu, each targeting a specific Click Bank product
5. When I post articles about these products, I want them to appear on that specific :product page", not my home page.
6. Can it be done, and how do I go about it ?
Thank you in advance.
Theuns.

I would choose either Health or Fitness as they are broad and need be niched down starting out, otherwise you'd confuse Google and your visitors.

You ought to discuss an aspect of health or fitness to a qualified group of people who would be your target audience.

For example yoga exercises for beginners or another group you have in mind.

The more focused a niche website is starting out, the better chance it has to start having traction and traffic.

Once a subcategory is completely exhausted you can scale out. See example blog post below Please be aware you also need to create lots of content addressing issues related to your focused niche website.

Most important is to be passionate and genuinely interested in your niche Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

You would for example have a reviews category which you can add to your menu, then assign posts to their respective categories, so when visitors click on a specific category they can see all posts related.

Yes. you could create a "pillar page" for number 5. Not exactly sure or your idea, but all of your post links could be combined on one page that could act as the "parent" page.

Before you go any further I would stop and choose only one of your subcategories and write several informational posts for it so that you get traffic. When there are so many broad subcategories your site will not get the ranking it may deserve. Board niches compete with all oft hose that cover the same topic. When you start with a narrow scope and choose a specific audience search engines will rank you more favorably provided you provide informational original helpful content.

Contrary to common thinking a broader niche does not get more traffic and sales.

Hey!
I am also starting with my website with football content. I was also stressed at the beginning, but I decided to don't overthink and just do a niche that I am interested in. You could try to do some content targetting a qualified group, but I think it's not neccesary.

Yes, you do have a lot of good brands.
Remember however, a niche is not a product.
A niche is an idea with a targeted audience you choose to help.
For example Essentials for beginning soccer players. The way to start with with informational blogs unrelated to specific products. What is , how do, why, guides, definitions . Look for questions people have about soccer and write answer posts to help them before you even think about products. resource: google search and answersocrates.com.

So who is the targeted audience you want to help and how and why.

Okay, rather than focus on a product first like lipstick, why are you choosing it? Who do you want to help? What group of people do you wish to help? Choosing a niche is about finding a targeted group of people and helping them with problems. So maybe the reason you are choosing lipstick is to help young women choose a color that brings out the beauty of their skin.

Ideas to find a niche.
Do you have any hobbies? Sports? Problems you've solved? Problems you are looking to find solutions for? Products that are amazingly helpful? Something you talk a lot about? Something you wished you had learned earlier in life? Job skill? You will be writing posts for people to read on your website - who would be the audience you wish to write for and help? You will be writing both informational posts and product reviews. What kind of questions would people be asking about your niche that you can help them with as well? Your informational posts are important to grow your traffic. Resource for questions: answersocrates.com.

It seems like you will be very limited and not make much money on marketing lipstick. To get traffic to your website you will be writing a lot of informational posts (100+) I see you are into swimming. Have you though about snorkeling? That would have a lot more ideas for writing informational posts and it is a good niche. What about yoga? Give it some more thought.
