Search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo are after ONE thing. The most relevant, useful content.

If you can build out your website in a way that is ready for SEO (as discussed in the last lesson) and create quality, relevant content, you are going to have a bright journey ahead of you within the online world.

The thing that most people stress about is being a "writer", you DO NOT have to be a writer to be successful online.

You simply need to communicate with your audience, the same way that you would with a friend or a family member. And if you put the emphasis on helping people, you are going to be able to build trust, which is going to lead to long term and sustainable success online.

SiteContent, a Writer's Dream Platform!

As both a Starter/Premium member, you have access to the SiteContent platform here at Wealthy Affiliate. This platform offers you some incredible features as a writer that will lead to more efficiency, accuracy, and speed with your content creation.

You can access the SiteContent platform through the Websites menu.

SiteContent offers you some unbelievable features that are going to make your life as a "blogger" much more efficient.

  • 100's of critical grammar and spelling checks
  • Duplicate content checker
  • Automated publishing directly to your website
  • Writing goals and accomplishments
  • SEO analysis and checks
  • Content structure analysis
  • Ability to template content
  • Vocabulary enhancement suggestions

This is where you are going to be creating all of your content moving forward. You will be setting writing goals and leveraging the "feature rich" platform for writing. If you are worried about your writing skills, the SiteContent interface is going to help you understand where you are making writing errors and help you correct them in a very efficient manner.

It is going to be your go to writing tool moving forward and it is exclusive to Wealthy Affiliate members only!

I have created a little walk-through video called "Creating Your Initial Website Content (Framework), showing you around the platform and how to best benefit from it. Watch the video below.

Task 1: Creating Your "About Me" POST

To establish a brand online in any niche, you need to build trust with your audience. The best way to initially do this is through an "about me" style page. Every successful website will have some information about their brand, who they are and why they want to help people.

Your first task today is going to be to create your About Me page and you are going to be doing this directly within the SiteContent platform.

Within your Templates tab, you are going to see that you already have the framework for your About Me page already outlined.

Simply click on the About Me template and it will take you into the SiteContent editor. This is where you will be creating your content for your About Me page.

The first thing you are going to want to do is choose a title that is appropriate for your about me page. There are several options that I suggest you choose from in terms of your naming convention.

  • About Me
  • About NAME (ex. About Kyle)
  • About SITE (ex. About Calorie Method)
  • About Us

The most natural and the option that I have always used because I feel it resonates and creates the most trust is "About Me" or "About Kyle", because it is the most direct. It feels like I am here for you and I am here to help (which is the case with every site I create).

Then you will want to populate the content. Do know that this is just a guideline, as you edit this post you can add new headings and of course you are in full control of the content and your story.

This is not a rigid exercise here, you are YOUR OWN brand and you can build out your content in any way you like, but this will give you a good guideline here.

After your are done doing this you will be click the Publish button in the right corner, just above your editor. This is going to allow you to publish directly to your website (see below).

Upon clicking Publish, you will get a pop-up that will allow you to choose how you want to publish the content. This is a 4 step process.

Step 1: You will want to choose your website that you want to Publish to, in this case it will be my "caloriemethod.siterubix.com" website.

Step 2: Choose "Post", not a "Page". The reason is all POSTS allow for comments on them and this is a page on my website where I am going to want to allow people to leave comments and feedback. Pretty much every article you publish moving forward will be done so as a "Post".

Step 3: Choose the user. If this is a new site, you will likely only have an Admin user. That is fine, choose that as your user.

Step 4: Choose the URL plug. Leave it "as is". You shouldn't need to change your URL plug, this is something that you can leave.

The Click Publish. Upon doing so, SiteContent is going to run a duplicate content check, and then publish the content to your website. Since you wrote your About Me page it will be 100% unique.

Task 2: Adding Your "Privacy Policy" PAGE

All major affiliate programs and all advertising platforms require that you have a "Privacy Policy" on your website. This is a formality more than anything and it is very much a standardized document.

You are going to want to load up the Privacy Policy Template from your templates.

Upon doing so, you will get a standardized Privacy Policy page. You are just going to need to make a few edits within the content to update this Privacy Policy and make it relevant to your website.

Change YOURSITE.com => Your Website URL

In the case of my website, I changed it to caloriemethod.siterubix.com. There about 10-11 instances of this that you will need to update within the Privacy Policy.

Then you will want to change:

Change [EMAIL ADDRESS] => Your Email Address

This could be any email you want, you could even create a free gmail account for the purpose of this. Or if you don't feel comfortable leaving your email at the moment, this can be something that you provide to people at a later date.

Upon updating the [YOURSITE.com] and [YOUR FIRST NAME] at [EMAIL ADDRESS] to your website details, you will want to Publish the Privacy Policy to your website.

Publish as a Page.

The reason you want to create this as a Page, is that you don't want your privacy policy being published to your "blog roll" which is on your homepage.

You are all set with your first few pages of content on your website. If you have any questions about the creation of your "about me" or "privacy policy" pages, leave them below.

Kudos to you for your hard work thus far, in the next lesson we are going to be covering navigation on your website and how to create custom menus. ;)

Tasks 0/3 completed
1. Watch the "Creating Your Initial Website Framework" Walk-through Video
2. Create & Publish Your "About Me" POST
3. Create & Publish Your Privacy Policy PAGE

Hi

You may need to empty the browser cache and try again. Try to publish in a different browser.

See if issue is resolved.

If not, you may have to delete site and start again. However, I'd save my work in site content.

To delete a siterubix subdomain, click details on subdomain in question in site manager, onward next page scroll all the way to the bottom and click delete.

Then you may go to Site Builder

Will it work if you start with a free website? I do have a domain name, but it's not related to a niche, or the niche I want to start with. It's more setup for a personal website about my digital art and the idea was to also start blogging where I wanted to integrate tips etc. and add affiliate links.
Reply
AbieAJ Premium Plus
Hi

Yes absolutely.

You may start with a siterubix subdomain around a focused niche and build up content and until you are satisfied with your niche and name, down the line have your own dot com, as some affiliate programs do not work with a subdomain. Cost of which is $15 yearly each privacy included. You can then move your siterubix to your dot com applying the move feature found within the site manager which is an easy process. However hosting is included in a premium subscription to the platform.

As and when you become a premium, you may also migrate your current website to WA servers.

From creating your blog you may also divert traffic to your personal website with your digital art and to merchants stores as well. It can absolutely serve two purposes

Hope this helps..

Here's more about WA and your membership.

As a free starter member you have a .siterubix.com website. Paid premium members can buy .com websites and use their websites as they want.

A .siterubix.com website is owned by WA but they let you use it as you do the training.

A .com domain name is one you can buy for $14.99 a year. You won it and are free to use it as fits your plans. Yes you most certainly can use it for appointments and customer feedback.

As a free starter member you have a free 7 day look at the Paid Premium features so you know what you get if you choose to become a Premium members.

If you want a longer look at Paid Premium you can extend that access for an additional 30 days for $19. At the end of that 30 day period access to Paid Premium is $49 per month or $495 per year. If you go yearly you get a free .com website.

Once you go Premium you cannot return back to Free Starter Membership.

You can learn more about the 3 membership types and compare them at https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/join/

You are a Free Starter member. You can remain that way forever; If you remain as a Starter Member, after 7 days your access to the Paid Premium program will become very limited. You will still have access to the free training You also get a free subdomain website which expires in 6 months. But access to this community and site support goes away.

For 7 days you have access to the Paid Premium program so you get a feel as to what WA has to offer. Please take a good look around. If you want an additional 30 day access to Paid Premium it costs $19 if you sign up for ii in the first 7 days. Once you sign up for Paid Premium you cannot go back to being a Free Member. Once you are a Paid Premium member it costs $49 per month or $495 a year.

AFTER 7 DAYS? You can proceed by using the search bar by clicking on the spyglass you will need to ask your questions in there to see if anyone else has asked them and how they solved them...
or use google to refine the searches...if you use
site:my.wealthyaffiliate.com [topic of question]
you will get all the results related to your question on this site but it will become more difficult but not impossible as others achieve success

I am going to say this simply: Your Niche should be something you Love and Feel Passionate about. You will be making about 3 posts per week. For a long time to come; so your Niche should be something you really want to make posts about.

I don't know if this helps? But, if it does? Great.

Yes having issues with my setting up my menus and my widgets. Trying to put my menus up on the right hand side like the tutorial and they keep going under the mail header every time? Along with the widgets I set up and update and they are not on my site? Also how do I make my home page a blog roll by default versus a static home page?

Here are some steps to create a blog for your home page.

Having a great home page and a blog roll page is not only possible, but easy when you know how. Here's the six steps to adding a blog to your website:

1. Add a New Page (not a post) Just log in to your WordPress Editor, and click on Pages and then Add New.

Don't add anything to this page, because it will always be a blank page in your editor.

2. Name Your Page Give the page any name you like. Probably most people name it Blog, but it's up to you.

3. Publish Your New Bog Roll Page You already know how to do this, Just click the Publish button in WordPress.

4. Go to Settings Now navigate to Settings > Reading in the editor dashboard. Once there, you will see an option to tick Static Page. Now in the drop down menu beside Post Page select the page name you just published. If you named it Blog, select it here.

Don't worry that you also have a page selected also selected for the home page.

5. How Many Post on the New Page? Directly under the drop down boxes is this: Blog pages show at most. Select the number of pages you want to show on your new blog-roll page.

Do not forget to click save changes and wait until it completes before leaving the page.

6. Navigate to Appearance > Menus Click on pages, find the page you designated for your Blog roll, tick the box and then Add To Menu. Do not forget to click on Save Menu.

Hi

You may need to empty the browser cache and try again. Try URL in a different browser or mobile device to see the changes.

You can go to Appearance > Menus, create and save

Tutorial For your widgets, you may install the classic widgets plugin and with the classic editor.

https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-sidebars/
https://wordpress.org/plugins/classic-widgets/

Initially you may download to your PC and then upload .zip files to your WordPress sites back office.

Or go to Plugins > Add new, input classic widgets, install and activate.

However in the standard view you may click the plus to add something or the three dots and choose to remove a block from the drop down menu.

However there was an update from Kyle regarding this, you may not have the option to choose the Classic editor in Settings > Writing and if so, you'd have to work with the Block editor instead. Hope this helps.

Hi All,
So I'm coming up with a new niche...I have some ideas to bounce off this great community:
So I have been a downhill skier for over 45 years and know skiing and the equipment very well. I also started really enjoying cooking and got into researching the best kitchen utensils so would I pick only one type of utensil for a niche? something like kitchen knives, because I believe strongly that having a good knife is one of if not the most important tool in your kitchen. The other kitchen item that interested me to have as a niche is stand mixers. Thoughts?

Hi

The question is WHO would be your target audience vs Not what you are selling to an audience.

You need aim for ONE focused niche with a specific group of people, I'd go with what's best resonates with me.

The recommendation is to focus on ONE site starting out as it takes lots of effort and work get it going, however once you know what you are doing, then the learning curve would be less steeper to scale up.

That's a great niche to be in however broad you may want to narrow it down to a subcategory starting out, otherwise you will find it very hard to get noticed by the search engines and to compete with big authority sites. Target audience is important too, who would you be writing to, once you are able to identify them, you are closer to finding a focused niche.

Once a site starts gaining traction, traffic and authority you can then scale to cover another subcategory.

See example blog post below A niche subject is something you are passionate and genuinely interested in could be a hobby or an interest, and know so well you can write plenty original content about.

ONE niche, a website. Products and programs can be varied however all must be relevant to the niche.

You may consult with https://answersocrates.com/ for further research into finding a subcategory starting out. You can search what real people are asking as in Questions, Prepositions, Comparisons, in the past, letters and query. It is also great if someone wants to write a thorough research based article.

For example if you are in skiing
https://blog.feedspot.com/ski_blog/

For kitchen utensils
https://blog.feedspot.com/cookware_blogs/

When deciding on a niche try narrow it down to a more specific niche, you can ask yourself the following question:

So I want to help people with ____________________ ?

Fill in the blank and you are going to get closer to a specific audience. Your niche research which you'd fine in site content > templates:-

Questions People are Asking
How to Solutions
Resources Within the Niche
Products You Can Promote/Review
Affiliate Programs
Products
Top Authority Sites/Competitors
Low Competition Keywords
Popular Magazines / Papers / Periodicals
Advertisement Ideas / Headline Ideas

Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

Hi - you have 2 million subscribers to your website? When sending emails, the recipients need to have specifically opted in to receive correspondence from you.

If for example, you have paid for email addresses, then send a bulk marketing message, your email provider could shut you down, as that's not legal.

It's great tp have multiple interests. Your interest in cooking would have a wider audience potential

The way to think of your interest ideas is who do you want to help and how. For example essential utensils for the beginner cook.

A niche is something you feel super excited to write about, a skill you have attained, something that resonates with you. You will want to be focused on one niche. What is it that you want to help a group of people with or what problem do you want to help them solve (group could be age, gender, location, experience level, degree or type of need, etc.)

A niche is not a product, it's a subject that you can help a target audience with. Remember, you are not setting up a shop (store), you will be writing lots of articles about your niche to help your targeted audience.

The importance of a targeted audience is that It's always better to target a specific niche with a specific solution to problems.

Kyles asks us to complete this statement.
'i want to help ____(group) with ______(problem)'

For example. I like camping.
Camping is a very broad topic with a lot of competition so to eliminate some competition in the beginning and to give my website has a chance to rank and grow in traffic, the focus needs to be a smaller scope.

For example my initial narrow scope could be: essential camping equipment for beginners. I can talk about camping, my experiences, what I have learned about camping, and how I have discovered what is really needed. Since I am quality focused, I have found good equipment which I believe is the very best. I will share my review of the equipment I use and why it is the best. Once the website is established and has a good volume of traffic, its scope can be expanded to include other things camping related.

So with my initial narrow scope, after visiting my website, a beginning camper will have a good idea of what camping is all about for a beginner and the equipment needed and the best brand products to buy. I will have many products on my niche website, but they will all relate to camping.

I am passionate about camping and want my readers to get excited about it too and feel comfortable when going for the first time that they have the necessary equipment..

So my niche is camping with an initial narrow scope. My targeted group is beginning campers wondering what equipment is needed and what the best is.

I have had some disappointing experiences so I want to help them avoid the same mistakes I have made. I will help campers buy the right equipment to make their camping experience more pleasant and safe.

I will write many content posts about camping (the how tos, what is, etc.). A beginner camper has no idea what kind of equipment is necessary. So I will write posts about the necessary equipment. I will choose products I can recommend. I will compare products and identify the best. So after visiting my website a beginning camper will have a good idea of what camping equipment is needed and the best brand products to buy. So I will have many products on my niche website, but they will all relate to camping equipment necessary for a pleasant and safe camping experience.

Have you chosen your niche yet? It is important to choose a niche first so that you can choose a domain name that may related to your niche ( a domain name related to your nche is not required, but it is a great way for visitors to remember you site - for its niche focus).
