Search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo are after ONE thing. The most relevant, useful content.

If you can build out your website in a way that is ready for SEO (as discussed in the last lesson) and create quality, relevant content, you are going to have a bright journey ahead of you within the online world.

The thing that most people stress about is being a "writer", you DO NOT have to be a writer to be successful online.

You simply need to communicate with your audience, the same way that you would with a friend or a family member. And if you put the emphasis on helping people, you are going to be able to build trust, which is going to lead to long term and sustainable success online.

SiteContent, a Writer's Dream Platform!

As both a Starter/Premium member, you have access to the SiteContent platform here at Wealthy Affiliate. This platform offers you some incredible features as a writer that will lead to more efficiency, accuracy, and speed with your content creation.

You can access the SiteContent platform through the Websites menu.

SiteContent offers you some unbelievable features that are going to make your life as a "blogger" much more efficient.

  • 100's of critical grammar and spelling checks
  • Duplicate content checker
  • Automated publishing directly to your website
  • Writing goals and accomplishments
  • SEO analysis and checks
  • Content structure analysis
  • Ability to template content
  • Vocabulary enhancement suggestions

This is where you are going to be creating all of your content moving forward. You will be setting writing goals and leveraging the "feature rich" platform for writing. If you are worried about your writing skills, the SiteContent interface is going to help you understand where you are making writing errors and help you correct them in a very efficient manner.

It is going to be your go to writing tool moving forward and it is exclusive to Wealthy Affiliate members only!

I have created a little walk-through video called "Creating Your Initial Website Content (Framework), showing you around the platform and how to best benefit from it. Watch the video below.

Task 1: Creating Your "About Me" POST

To establish a brand online in any niche, you need to build trust with your audience. The best way to initially do this is through an "about me" style page. Every successful website will have some information about their brand, who they are and why they want to help people.

Your first task today is going to be to create your About Me page and you are going to be doing this directly within the SiteContent platform.

Within your Templates tab, you are going to see that you already have the framework for your About Me page already outlined.

Simply click on the About Me template and it will take you into the SiteContent editor. This is where you will be creating your content for your About Me page.

The first thing you are going to want to do is choose a title that is appropriate for your about me page. There are several options that I suggest you choose from in terms of your naming convention.

  • About Me
  • About NAME (ex. About Kyle)
  • About SITE (ex. About Calorie Method)
  • About Us

The most natural and the option that I have always used because I feel it resonates and creates the most trust is "About Me" or "About Kyle", because it is the most direct. It feels like I am here for you and I am here to help (which is the case with every site I create).

Then you will want to populate the content. Do know that this is just a guideline, as you edit this post you can add new headings and of course you are in full control of the content and your story.

This is not a rigid exercise here, you are YOUR OWN brand and you can build out your content in any way you like, but this will give you a good guideline here.

After your are done doing this you will be click the Publish button in the right corner, just above your editor. This is going to allow you to publish directly to your website (see below).

Upon clicking Publish, you will get a pop-up that will allow you to choose how you want to publish the content. This is a 4 step process.

Step 1: You will want to choose your website that you want to Publish to, in this case it will be my "caloriemethod.siterubix.com" website.

Step 2: Choose "Post", not a "Page". The reason is all POSTS allow for comments on them and this is a page on my website where I am going to want to allow people to leave comments and feedback. Pretty much every article you publish moving forward will be done so as a "Post".

Step 3: Choose the user. If this is a new site, you will likely only have an Admin user. That is fine, choose that as your user.

Step 4: Choose the URL plug. Leave it "as is". You shouldn't need to change your URL plug, this is something that you can leave.

The Click Publish. Upon doing so, SiteContent is going to run a duplicate content check, and then publish the content to your website. Since you wrote your About Me page it will be 100% unique.

Task 2: Adding Your "Privacy Policy" PAGE

All major affiliate programs and all advertising platforms require that you have a "Privacy Policy" on your website. This is a formality more than anything and it is very much a standardized document.

You are going to want to load up the Privacy Policy Template from your templates.

Upon doing so, you will get a standardized Privacy Policy page. You are just going to need to make a few edits within the content to update this Privacy Policy and make it relevant to your website.

Change YOURSITE.com => Your Website URL

In the case of my website, I changed it to caloriemethod.siterubix.com. There about 10-11 instances of this that you will need to update within the Privacy Policy.

Then you will want to change:

Change [EMAIL ADDRESS] => Your Email Address

This could be any email you want, you could even create a free gmail account for the purpose of this. Or if you don't feel comfortable leaving your email at the moment, this can be something that you provide to people at a later date.

Upon updating the [YOURSITE.com] and [YOUR FIRST NAME] at [EMAIL ADDRESS] to your website details, you will want to Publish the Privacy Policy to your website.

Publish as a Page.

The reason you want to create this as a Page, is that you don't want your privacy policy being published to your "blog roll" which is on your homepage.

You are all set with your first few pages of content on your website. If you have any questions about the creation of your "about me" or "privacy policy" pages, leave them below.

Kudos to you for your hard work thus far, in the next lesson we are going to be covering navigation on your website and how to create custom menus. ;)

Tasks 0/3 completed
1. Watch the "Creating Your Initial Website Framework" Walk-through Video
2. Create & Publish Your "About Me" POST
3. Create & Publish Your Privacy Policy PAGE

I'm reading a lot of comments saying "it will take time to make any money" and "it's very unlikely to make enough money in the first month to pay for the second month" etc. which leads me to question does anybody actually make any money at all from the siterubix sites or do they all just run through the process, upgrade, port the site across to an owned domain and profit from there? That is a question that comes from fear (i guess) and what lies beneath it (but not far beneath) is another question. Does anyone learn enough from the starter membership to make money or does it just hook you into the potential of the possible existence of chance that you can do it and you upgrade and blow your budget learning and never quite have enough to make a go of it? I'm not sure these are real questions but I'm sure people have been where I am and been burned (gone away, recovered and come back to some similar effort to be burned again and again.) If the free stuff convinces me I need more but leaves me ultimately unsatisfied/unconvinced, does the paid stuff tell me I need more too? Sorry I'm reaching I know...

Absolutely. There's many folks here who make money.

Well if you are serious about building an online business, it is no brainer to upgrade to a premium.

You can learn loads absolutely. For the first seven days you can test drive the Wealthy Affiliate platform limited premium access to see if it fits with your business needs and objectives.

As ask as many questions as you like to get clarifications exactly like what you are doing right now.

Other options are available too, you could remain a Wealthy Affiliate starter indefinitely and your siterubix subdomain remains valid for six months from day signing up to the platform, giving you time to build content.

However the learning curve would be steeper as communications with the Wealthy Affiliate platform ceases up in 7 days from time signing up, you will not have access to coaching and sound advice.

As and when you decide to become a Wealthy Affiliate Premium, your first month would be $19 then $49 monthly afterwards

Or $49 first month then $99 monthly afterwards for premium plus +

Hello from Nottingham! Well, you have obviously read some of my responses to other members' questions. And I prefer to be honest.

If you have absolutely no knowledge of building a website, writing content that converts to sales, and affiliate marketing, then it is practically impossible to make any money from the free membership.

One of the biggest hindrances to success is the lack of ability to communicate after your first 7 days, to ask questions and you have no access to Technical Support either if you have a problem with your website. Basically, you are on your own and will have to research everything yourself.

And another drawback that is not often mentioned, is that the free website you are given is limited to 1,000 visitors per month. That is nowhere near enough to make a sustainable, decent income.

As a premium member, you have unlimited support, and access to hundreds of lessons and hundreds of webinars. However, that alone is not enough to guarantee success.

The business model as taught here is not a "set it and forget it" plan. You will have to be prepared to write as much original content as you can on your chosen niche subject, with nothing copied. Every single week, even in years to come. Eventually, you will have written hundreds of articles for your website.

Most people give up after 3 months, maybe 6 months, as even with the premium membership, you are unlikely to see any income before then. Google needs to see you are in this for the long term and that you have established yourself as an authority on your subject.

Sorry, I have rambled on a bit! But what it boils down to, is the question of are you prepared to write article after article for the foreseeable future?

Hi Trev,

Remember the definition of F.E.A.R. (False Evidence Appearing Real).

There’s really no need to fear. Though, there is a need to work hard at anything, if you want to succeed.

Do you know of any successful businesses that were built overnight, or in one month, or three months, or even in a year? On average it takes at least five years to build a solid business foundation. In other words, every business takes time to succeed. For success is not a destination, it’s a daily process. The more you proceed to build your business, the more successful you become. It’s when you allow negative thoughts to intervene and block your success, is when you fail.

Remember too, I can’t and you can’t and nobody I know can spell success without a “u.” So, decide to dedicate yourself to a daily successful busy by setting daily goals, plugging into the WA trainings daily, and writing posts daily and, I’ll meet you on the other side of success!

Blessings to you & yours,

Kathy🦋

Great questions here.
The real purpose for the Free Starter training is to let you try the Paid premium membership so you know what it offers without investing first. It also gives you an idea of who this works and if it is something you wish to pursue further.

How soon you earn money is dependent upon may factors. For someone starring with no experience it usually takes longer but then it also depends on how easily the training is understood and applied to your online business.

It takes work and doesn't happen magically.

Since you are still within your first 7 days, click on some of the menu tabs. see what's in them Do a search on some terms and see what comes up. There is both formal training and one weekly webinar by Jay, the WA training.

Until recently, now Premium Plus membership also exists with more training from those WA members who are Super Achievers, this is the learning system that we all have used. Many have made over one mullion already. Do a menu bar search "success stories" . There is no way to predict how you will, but the training, tools and support needed are here.

Hi Trev01.

I am new and cero experience within the affiliate marketing world. I understand your fear, I feel the same way some time.

This is the think, the $49 per month will be less than the monthly subscription of a gym membership. This will be like an investment for your future business.

If you don't expect unrealistic quick results you must likely won't be disappointed. I think we need to be patience. Realistically it will take time.

I wish you well and best of luck.

In choosing a niche, if I have a couple of great domain name ideas (and I already have a great short domain for dogs and a similar one that I see available for cats) does it work to build a niche around a great domain name even if it isn't researched for SEO, or is it better to find keywords first, then come up with a domain name? I guess I'm asking how important is the domain name.
Reply
DianeScorpio Premium
Hi - the domain name is not that important, although it should bear some relevance to your niche. People will be finding your site by the keywords in your content, not by searching for the domain name.

A domain name is not the secret for a successful online business. Writing niche related original helpful content is key to growing a website. That is what search engines crawl, index and rank. Choosing a domain name that you like and that is easy to remember is nice.

I would start with the free siterubix.com subdomain first because if you decide you don't like it you can delete it and start over. Many times people buy a dot com and change their mind but once a dot com is purchases you own it for a year at which time you can renew it,

When buying a dot com domain name .avoid dashes in it and brand names..

That's great and thank you for sharing!

Nowadays domains are not so affected by SEO vs writing quality rich content with good choice of keywords, latter of which would rank you in the search engines.

Naming it can be relevant and at the same time, not. For example Apple dot com doesn't sell apples vs tech gear.

You can use leandomainsearch dot com, you input a word and it gives you another

And a godaddy valuation tool to find a memorable name.

I'd also use this site namecheckr.com

I would always go for a dot com domain name vs dot net or dot org as people's perceptions when they start typing they would typically assume it is a dot com. And make sure it is spelled correctly as it cannot be edited once purchased.

I would not include dashes and check if the domain is copyrighted, trademarked and ' or registered to an established business.

Hi everyone,
I just came up with a new niche since my old one wasn't that efficient . This new one is about gym supplements and if they're good or bad for you and all the different sorts of it . I just want some opinions if this is a good niche topic .Thanks.
Reply
AbieAJ Premium Plus
Those are the products you would promote on your site vs a niche subject you would address to a qualified target audience (group of people)

Example
Gym workouts for beginners

In the first instance, I'd ask myself

Am I passionate and genuinely interested in my chosen niche, as I I'd be expected to write lots of content, it would motivate me to update blog with succinct original content worthy my visitors week in week out.

Would I be writing about it in a years time or two or more

Who would be my target audience, who would benefit most from what I have to offer.
Reply
jghwebbrand Premium
Okay so gym supplements for what? Who do you want to help and how do you want to help them? Build muscle? Or What.?

Do you have experience with this?

Some other questions you can ask yourself.
Do you have any hobbies? Sports? Problems you've solved? Problems you are looking to find solutions for? Products that are amazingly helpful? Something you talk a lot about? Something you wished you had learned earlier in life? Job skill?

You will be writing posts for people to read on your website - who would be the audience you wish to write for and help? You will be writing both informational posts and product reviews. What kind of questions would people be asking about your niche that you can help them with as well? Your informational posts are important to grow your traffic.
