Search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo are after ONE thing. The most relevant content.

If you can build out your website in a way that is ready for SEO (as discussed in the last lesson) and create quality, relevant content, you are going to have a bright journey ahead of you within the online world.

The thing that most people stress about is being a "writer", you DO NOT have to be a writer to be successful online.

You simply need to communicate with your audience, the same way that you would with a friend or a family member. And if you put the emphasis on helping people, you are going to be able to build trust, which is going to lead to long term and sustainable success online.

SiteContent, a Writer's Dream Platform

As both a Starter/Premium member, you have access to the SiteContent platform here at Wealthy Affiliate. This platform offers you some incredible features as a writer that will lead to more efficiency, accuracy, and speed with your content creation.

You can access the SiteContent platform through the SiteRubix menu.

SiteContent offers you some unbelievable features that are going to make your life as a "blogger" much more efficient.

  • 100's of critical grammar and spelling checks
  • Duplicate content checker
  • Automated publishing directly to your website
  • Writing goals and accomplishments
  • SEO analysis and checks
  • Content structure analysis
  • Ability to template content
  • Vocabulary enhancement suggestions

This is where you are going to be creating all of your content moving forward. You will be setting writing goals and leveraging the "feature rich" platform for writing. If you are worried about your writing skills, the SiteContent interface is going to help you understand where you are making writing errors and help you correct them in a very efficient manner.

It is going to be your go to writing tool moving forward and it is exclusive to Wealthy Affiliate members only!

I have created a little walk-through of SiteContent, showing you around the platform and how to best benefit from it.

DISCUSS VIDEO: Creating Your Initial Framework of Content

Task 1: Creating Your "About Me" POST

To establish a brand online in any niche, you need to build trust with your audience. The best way to initially do this is through an "about me" style page. Every successful website will have some information about their brand, who they are and why they want to help people.

Your first task today is going to be to create your About Me page and you are going to be doing this directly within the SiteContent platform.

Within your Templates tab, you are going to see that you already have the framework for your About Me page already outlined.

Simply click on the About Me template and it will take you into the SiteContent editor. This is where you will be creating your content for your About Me page.

The first thing you are going to want to do is choose a title that is appropriate for your about me page. There are several options that I suggest you choose from in terms of your naming convention.

  • About Me
  • About NAME (ex. About Kyle)
  • About SITE (ex. About Real Deal Affiliate, About RDA)
  • About Us

The most natural and the option that I have always used because I feel it resonates and creates the most trust is "About Me" or "About Kyle", because it is the most direct. It feels like I am here for you and I am here to help (which is the case with every site I create).

Then you will want to populate the content. Do know that this is just a guideline, as you edit this post you can add new headings and of course you are in full control of the content and your story.

This is not a rigid exercise here, you are YOUR OWN brand and you can build out your content in any way you like, but this will give you a good guideline here.

After your are done doing this you will be click the Publish button in the right corner, just above your editor. This is going to allow you to publish directly to your website (see below).

Upon clicking Publish, you will get a pop-up that will allow you to choose how you want to publish the content. This is a 4 step process.

Step 1: You will want to choose your website that you want to Publish to, in this case it will be my "basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com" website.

Step 2: Choose "Post", not a "Page". The reason is all POSTS allow for comments on them and this is a page on my website where I am going to want to allow people to leave comments and feedback. Pretty much every article you publish moving forward will be done so as a "Post".

Step 3: Choose the user. If this is a new site, you will likely only have an Admin user. That is fine, choose that as your user.

Step 4: Choose the URL plug. Leave it "as is". You shouldn't need to change your URL plug, this is something that you can leave.

The Click Publish. Upon doing so, SiteContent is going to run a duplicate content check, and then publish the content to your website. Since you wrote your About Me page it will be 100% unique.

Task 2: Adding Your "Privacy Policy" PAGE

All major affiliate programs and all advertising platforms require that you have a "Privacy Policy" on your website. This is a formality more than anything and it is very much a standardized document.

You are going to want to load up the Privacy Policy Template from your templates.

Upon doing so, you will get a standardized Privacy Policy page. You are just going to need to make a few edits within the content to update this Privacy Policy and make it relevant to your website.

Change YOURDOMAIN.com => Your Website URL

In the case of my website, I changed it to basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com. There about 10-11 instances of this that you will need to update within the Privacy Policy.

Then you will want to change:

Change YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com => Your Email Address

This could be any email you want, you could even create a free gmail account for the purpose of this. Or if you don't feel comfortable leaving your email at the moment, this can be something that you provide to people at a later date.

Upon updating the YOURDOMAIN.com and YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com to your website details, you will want to Publish the Privacy Policy to your website.

Publish as a Page.

The reason you want to create this as a Page, not a Post is because Pages don't allow for comments. You don't want people commenting on your Privacy Policy, whereas you are going to want to allow for comments and engagement on the rest of your website (as it is good for rankings).

**Note: Your Privacy Policy is duplicate content because it is a stand document. SiteContent is going to warn you about this when you attempt to publish, and that is completely fine. Publish anyways, we are going to be blocking the search engines from seeing this.

After you publish your Privacy Policy, you are going to want to log into the back office of your website (Wordpress Admin area) through the SiteManager or through SiteContent. When you are within the editor for this page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see the following settings.

Check off the Robots Meta NOINDEX and the Robots Meta NOFOLLOW. These will make sure this page (which is all duplicate content) does not get indexed in Google. The Privacy Policy is the ONLY page you want to do this for as it is duplicate content.

You are all set with your first few pages of content on your website. Kudos to you for your hard work thus far, in the next lesson we are going to be covering navigation on your website and how to create custom menus. ;)

I am done with level 8, "creating custom menus on your web" but on my site, the first I saw is my name instead of the name of my Niche as in the training. Immediately after this is the statement "Just another wordpress site". How can I dit the name issue and remove this statement?

I suppose I will ask my question and check back periodically.

Here goes, I have tried but failed to find the way to get to the page that has the two NOFOLLOW & NOINDEX icons in order to check them off. I have been using my Android phone for this and haven't had a problem with it so far.
I wonder if that's the problem.

I go to Site Manager, it says to get into my back office after I'm done with privacy page publish.

So I did go to Site mgr and it says when I am within the editor of this page I should scroll down the page.

That's the problem I can't find that page !

Thank you for any help you may give me
See ya!

Ok this is disappointing gents, went to JAAXY site join for free like you said, and whoa!!! Domains on key word search is block out unless I upgrade to Pro status for $49/mo. don't sound like free to me, I only get 15 keyword results and 3 of them are block out by a pop up that tell me to upgrade to unlock full access. And I only get 30 searches for keywords, I don't know what happens after that. This is very very miss leading guys realy!

You are a premium member and as such you have totally free and unlimited use of the WA Keyword Tool. There is absolutely no need for you to spend extra money on Jaaxy.

I have been a member here since 2013 and I have never used Jaaxy. I have used the WA Keyword Tool exclusively and have made it to Google page one dozens of times.

I highly recommend that you use it. Learn how at the links below.

I certainly think they could be clearer about what to expect for free, when we know what to expect then there is no disappointment, they do give a taste of it, and in that sense you are getting something free that you would not have otherwise but yes it is a surprise to see limitations when one is not expecting them

however Boomergp08/Robert has some really excellent training on the WA keyword tool, and Kyle and many people ranking on page 1 say it is excellent for keywords

The process of looking for a niche seems tougher than I thought only because it is a vast world out there and as a newbie, all I can think of is - "how am I going to figure out what most people are looking for?". I guess I am trying to bite off more than I can chew and wanting to do it quickly so I can generate income right away.

I am glad there is a section for those that are not so focused on their passions, it is comforting to know that I am not alone.

My last involvement with e-commerce mesmerized me when I signed on, from InventorySource.com, with a knife manufacturer (Moteng) to download their products and discover how into specialized knives many people are. The same experience I noticed with lamps.

So, my initial niche concepts will revolve around math tutoring ( I teach the subject in secondary schools), knives, lamps, then malls.

What have you dealt with in the past, Ronnie2786?

Don’t overthink the niche idea. It can be a hobby or a passion of yours. But if that doesn’t really fit, make it something you’re good at or something that you’d like to know more about.

I love running so that will be my first site, but I could easily do one on real estate investing, Pontiac Trans Ams, being a stay at home parent, cheap family meals...

If it’s not fun or interesting for you, you probably won’t want to do it.

For every niche I want to promote, do I create a website for each one of them? For instance I have multiple niche I'd like to get into and there all different that matches different audiences. Or, can I create one unique website that I can compile all my niches in it?
Reply
JasonLo Premium
This is why I don't like the idea of a Super mini blog name. You're too limited in content ideas sometimes when there is more opportunity expanding to another related niche. You don't want to compile a dating site, a money online site and a camping site that wouldn't make sense. You can have a wide niche name, allows you to scale moving forward.
Reply

So, what your telling me is to create a website for each niche I like to promote. Is that correct? So, a main website or webpage would be irrelevant as a landing page for any niche I choose. Right?

1st question u r correct.
2nd question I don't really understand... your home page is always important. Just don't build an article site that covers every single topic you won't have a readership that returns if u do so.

If I move my current domain and website onto the WA Site Rubix Platform, does the website stay as is, it is just now hosted on the new platform?
So the site user won't know the difference, everything happens in the back end.

It means that Google has found your website and what's on it. Everything and anything you have on your site will be indexed, even if it is not much. The content you put on from now on will also be indexed and you can help Google along by uploading URL and sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools (Covered in training).

Hi there WA-ers, I have a question about choosing a niche.

Can you get too niche?

As in, let's say I want to be in the 'Gardening' market; that's too broad, so we'll niche down to 'Growing Fruit Trees'; still not quite there (although it could be good as an 'umbrella' term).

Now, here's a good one: "How to grow fruit trees indoors"

Although it sounds good, is it too narrow? After all, once you've described the growing conditions for 1 fruit tree, won't you run into duplication issues for other tree species?

Do you see what I mean?
Reply
feigner Premium
I don't think it is too narrow - think about what you can help that niche with - pot size, nutrients, pruning, pests, diseases, climate - for all the different types of fruit trees - although i am struggling to see a 10ft apple tree in my house!! maybe bonsai.
but you get the point that is not too niche and would make a wonderful helpful site, marketing all of the products to produce successful growing trees.
As all of the trees come from different climates you can advise on things like fig trees, orange trees, apple trees fir trees, so you have all of the different climates and how to recreate them within the home environment.
Good luck with your niche selection.
Just remember to think outside the box, but even if it is a very narrow niche - if you are very knowledgable then it would be a very good learning curve for the business model.

When I was watching the niche video I caught myself thinking paintball. It is something I have done since I was 2004 and at one time I was completely engrained in the culture of it so it's one of the things I know the most about.

I am not sure if paintball itself is a narrow enough niche and Its been the only thing holding me back from building my first website. Its the one thing that has me sidelined right now.

It's fine! I don't like it because u can't expand into other topics. I like broad sites but focus on one topic first before I move on. If you name yourself something so niche you can never expand.

Hey Shane,

I can see a few strategies that might give you a few ideas. You could review paintball gear. Check this site out to get a few ideas about what there is to promote and then base your content around that.

http://www.criticalpaintball.com/affiliate_info.asp

The other thing that you could do, but it might be more of a long term thing, is create a product of your own talking about paintball strategies. I'd start with promoting the gear first so you can get a bit of income flowing, and then maybe think about selling strategies.

Another way you could do it is to give away paintball strategies, and then recommend the gear to use. Does that help?

A good trick to see what is out there to promote is to Google "paintball affiliate programs'. You can do it with any niche, so "niche + affiliate programs', and you'll see a whole lot of stuff come up that you can scan through to give you ideas.

Cheers,

Peter

Just make sure the little box is not checked off for comments and you can do that in pages and go to your privacy policy and then quick edit. It should be done as page so that is good, and then added to your menu so that part is good as well.

Here is the niche I am planning on. I am sixty-one years old. I love playing today's video games. I started playing video games when Pong first came out. We would be at parting and all of us would be anxiously waiting to play most of the night.
Today's games are amazing and some are so realistic.
You can be Superman, Batman, or Spiderman.
You can be football, baseball, basketball, or hockey player.
You can battle dragons, zombies, or be a medieval knight.
Race cars, boats, fly jets or fly planes from WWII.
You can exercise with most of the consoles.
Also, have posts about how they can help eye-hand coordination or how they can help keep our minds sharp. They are not just kids anymore, but for older adults as well.
And the best part for me is spending time playing with my granddaughter, Sierra. We playing fighting games together. She kicks my butt.
We have a lot of fun.
Any thoughts or comments or advice will be greatly appreciated

Hi Kyle
A little confusion regarding NICHES!
"When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby"
Is it not important that one is an authority on chosen niche?
a. To write content on the subject, otherwise are you not leaving yourself open to negative debate/ contradictions on your content.
b. To be able to answer questions if and when they arise on the niche
Timothy

Hello Timothy,

I believe you 'become' an authority within your niche in time as you research your chosen niche, connect with other bloggers within your niche, and check out other blogger's websites. You can learn a lot from others.

I began by setting up my Facebook group page, Barefoot Journaling Chronicles, in April 2015. I began with a membership of 5 including me. As of today I have 1,230 members. I began my blog when I started with WA here in February.

One of my BJC members is calling me "Obi-Wan-Evon"...how's that for authority?

Research and development is very important on a regular basis..."Inch by inch is a cinch...yard by yard is very hard" Take it one step at a time...one day at a time. How do you eat an elephant?

....one bite at a time. ;)

Blessings!

You need to write your content naturally placing your keywords within your content. Do not stuff your content with your keywords as Google will pick up on this and you may be penalised.

You can sign up to ANY affiliate program. In google type in the name of your niche and + 'Affiliate Program' So for example, if your niche was 'lose belly fat', you would type the following into Google
lose belly fat + 'Affiliate program'

Hi,
Content will be your words discussing, explaining a topic or reviewing a product... and within the text you write you make use of that keyword. For example if your keyword is "strongest iphone case" your text-content-post (your words) will be discussing your phone cover, or phone covers you have tried and this (link to product) is the toughest one everyone should buy to keep the phone safe.

Your content is text and images and maybe video talking about, showing, reviewing... and makes use of that keyword

To sign up as affiliate from other sites, e.g. Amazon or any other, you need to go those sites and register/sign up with them. After sign up you will have access to Affiliate links from those sites to sell their produts

I hope this helps

Reply

usually when you join affiliate programs, they will supply images and links for you to use. This way you know you are not using images without permission

on in cases like big shopping sites, for example Amazon.com, you can use images from those products...

in therms of other images, when you write your content with Site Content here in WA, it gives you access to over 1 million images that are safe to use (creative commons, no need for permission)

Yes, on your site you have to use your name/business... you cannot give the impression to be the Product Brand... it has to be clear that you are you, not the product maker (unless you are selling your own products)

Now, for the < $25.00 investment. I think that what you get just for that is more than grand! It is like doing the iggy sticky iggy and dancing from happiness. lol...
But that is just the start. If you budget $50.00 you will get more than that in return! At least that is what I am seeing so far.

Kamer,

The $13.99 that you would have paid here would have come with Security and a lot more extras that 1&1, GoDaddy, NameCheap etc.... charge for that you will need and in the long run the site will cost you more than $13.99 from them.

I do realize that is too late for you to change your path my Friend but it will be something to consider in the future.

Looking for help with host transfer from wix to WA. My pending transfer has an error that says that it's "unable to retrieve current domain contacts from UWhois.' When I look it up on google it suggests that only Wealthy Affiliate support can fix that error. How do I make it happen?

Yes try WA support first. But you can leave your domain with GoDaddy or whoever your hosting provider is and then point your name servers to WA. If you don't know how to do that just call your hosting provider and give them these Name Server settings...its in this link

Niche to choose. Well I'm passionate about overall Health, and Wellness, in Mind, Body, and Spirit. I have had cancer twice in my life. The first time, was with Thyroid Cancer. I actually visited an ENT specialist for a bad allergy I had. I needed surgery to remove my severe nasal congestion. However, at that time I was also diagnosed with early stage thyroid cancer. So, also, I had another surgery to remove my thyroid, and have radiation treatments to kill the cancer cells. That worked, and I'm grateful, however, I have to take a thyroid med daily for the rest of my life. I was also, diagnosed with 3 stage colon cancer 10 years later. I had surgery to remove a piece of my colon, and the oncologist wanted to start me on chemotherapy treatments ASAP. However, Since I had done my own research online. I decided against the conventional chemo treatments, and went on a all natural protocol treatment. This natural cancer fighting treatment was very effective in killing all the cancer cells, but, not my healthy cells, therefore, not killing my immune system. I'm here to say there is already cures for cancer, just about all cancers. I'm living proof. Since then I remain on a maintaining protocol (healthy lifestyle) that keeps me cancer free. Also, since I have been checked twice for cancer - prostate, and skin. No cancer. So the end result, twice diagnosed with cancer - not living a healthy lifestyle - But being on a low carb, high protein diet and a natural preventative protocol - twice cancer free!
I'm open to talking with anyone needing help...

that's the danger about a cookie cutter approach to health, it's an individual thing - I'm glad that worked for you but if you research this niche outside what worked for you then you will see there are other natural approaches, there are other natural cancer therapies, and there are many different views on whether protein should be high or low - eg Gerson cancer therapy has low protein and that works for many people

so while you are a great example of what can be done, personally coming from the health niche myself and having taken a lot of training in it, I think bloggers have a responsibility to do their research broader than themselves before talking to others - do you know that is one of the reasons the medical powers that be are trying to shut down bloggers on this subject?

also look at The Truth About Cancer, tons of different views there on many different natural solutions to cancer, it is also a big affiliate program, you could easily carve out a niche with your story - but having survived illness [medical error] against the odds myself, I'm going to encourage bloggers to think bigger than themselves

A site centered around 'alternative' medicine is a good idea in theory. However in practice unless you know what you're doing you get into a lot of trouble real fast.

The U.S. government does not take kindly to sites offering non FDA approved treatments for cancer or anything else.

It is technically illegal to 'advertise' any treatments outside of the BIG 3 (Chemo, Radiation, Surgery). That's been on the books since 1999.

it is considered 'advertising' if you set up a site and talk about cures, aids, etc & you're not a doctor. The Supreme Court ruled that in 2005, 2009, 2016.

Doctors can't set a site either unless they are in private practice and even then the government ties their hands.

However talking about 'natural remedies' and not mentioning 'cancer' or 'cure', 'cancer free' that is legal.

Hope this helps you. It could work you just need to know what you're doing or you may get 'served'.

Anyway feel free to seek out the advise of others in this matter. Please come to your own thoughts and conclusions.

Wow! First off congratulations on that decision that seemed to be more than the right one. You have the perfect niche with the natural preventative protocol. There have to be so many people that would benefit from this even if they have never had cancer but other serious health complications. Drs. are so quick to just pass out the pill, and when we are sick, we trust. I am still saying Wow in my head!!

I have just completed the lesson on "What is a Niche" next lesson is how to build a website, prior to building a website shouldn't i be using a niche research tool to determine if my niche is worth the effort before building a website around that niche... just asking.
Thanks for any help on this topic

No. You don't need a research tool. Just do the research yourself. If you are not sure what niche to choose. Then choose something that you enjoy doing and build a niche around that.

I'm still trying to fully understand what the numbers for keywords mean. I found a keyword on Jaaxy with an Avg. of 206 and a QSR of 66. Is that a good one to choose for content on my site. Also, if I were to use this keyword to write content on my site can I add words before or after the keyword when I post or will that cause the keyword not to get traffic?

Hi,
Yes those are pretty good numbers.
Jay (Live video instructor here) is recommending at least 100 searches and no more than 100 QSR (which is exact keyword phrase matches on other websites.)

The keyword phrase can have other words before or after it.

Don't worry, the using keywords gets covered well in both Kyle and Jay's classes. It will start to make sense and get easier to choose them after a while.

It may help to use the search bar top center on this page to look up all the keyword related lessons from Kyle (and others) and go over some of them until it starts to sound familiar. Same thing with searching and watching Live Video Classes related to the topic.

I say this because you also want to use keywords in a few ways. In the title, in the content, in the meta title and meta description and also as the name of one image on your page or post. (This is covered in the "21 minute ranking...in 7 steps" video for premium members as well as elsewhere.

You don't actually have to enter any information for this task. You simply have to choose your niche so that going forward after you build your website you will have a niche to talk/write/promote about.

yes, what Michydie says... picking your Niche is something you need to do, so you know what kind of a website you will be building. It's not necessary to write it in anywhere. Picking your Niche is the hardest part in the beginning. I am preparing to build a second website and picking a niche is proving to be a real challenge!

Reply

If you are totally new to Online Marketing/Business then yes you will feel much better after the Certification and Get Started training... that will give you a better idea of the possibility and options...

As a quick answer, you can promote/market any affiliate program you want, amazon or any other product owner or general shop that has an affiliate program...

You can market your own products and services...

Generally you will have an affiliate disclaimer page/text on your site which mention your site may present/link to products for which, if bought you will get a commission... that's a legal requirement... but you don't need to mention this on each artical you write..

You can talk about what you are passionate about and link to products that are of that same niche... you can do reviews of products in your niche.. if you link to products that are not related to your niche you will have hard time selling anything..

I hope this helps a bit

Reply
nathaniell Premium
Yes, you can promote anything you want on your website. It SHOULD match what you are writing about, so it's relevant to the customer. For example, people won't want to buy dog supplies from a bodybuilding website.

However, it's your business, and you can promote anything you want on it. From the example above, maybe a famous bodybuilder is selling branded dog collars, and in that case promoting dog supplies from a body building website would be relevant!

in the past having keywords in the domain name was a clear advantage but like other things, people/visitors got used to that and recently brand names are in most cases (I think) a better option. Also, Google supposedly is keen on brands and does not want to be tricked by spammy domain names... But it is also down to the goal of the site. For an extremely focused niche, have some keyword in the name may help but best case (I think) is if the domain name still sounds like an easy to remember brand even when it includes a keyword.

Using a short easy to remember name has many advantage, easy to spread through word of mouth, easy to type in... then do SEO on the site and content to support that name.

I would go for a brand name and if it sounds good maybe a brand name that includes a keyword especially if it helps the end user to quickly identify the topic of the site. This works best for service based names like names for SEO services for example where the word SEO before or after a brand-word can work well.

Hi,

What do you mean when you say
"can I be able to change my domain name right now?"

did you buy the domain name elsewhere and you want to point/redirect it to WA servers for hosting? Or you mean something else?
Reply

Your domain name is fine. You can't change your domain name, you can buy another one, but once you buy a domain, it's yours for a year.
Reply
RoopeKiuttu Premium
you can always get a new domain name afterwards if you want. I recommend starting with xxx.siterubix.com domain because then you can easily change it. Once you are sure what domain name you want, get your own xxxx.com domain name. Then you can still change it but I don't recommend because it would affect Google rankings and traffic to your website.

Hi Alwyn,
You can use the Keyword Tool in the left hand navigation. That will give you an idea of how often it is searched for. If you want an idea of how well it sells, and ratings, check out Amazon and see what customers there say about each of your niche products. if reviews and ratings are poor, steer clear. But if the reviews are good and there are plenty of them that's a pretty good indicator of a popular product. Of course, this relies on your product being sold on Amazon!

Hi Sean, I need to know how to interpret the data in the chart for the Keyword Tool. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Reply
SeanGreentre Premium
Sure. Searches is the number of monthly searches performed in Google. Traffic is the estimated monthly traffic you can expect if you're on page 1 of Google for search term. And QSR is the amount of competition out there for that term - the lower, the better here. Ideally under 100, though under 300 is OK. Dig is just a way to dig deeper for search terms related to the term in question. Does that help? There are tutorials here for keyword research in course 1 here -

If you can. Try and use keywords similar to the keywords you were using. Use the thesaurus, helps a bunch. Also, make sure when using Jaxxy or WA keyword tool , to follow the the rule. Traffic over a 100 and QSR under a 100. Hope this helps.

I published it as a "Page" so as to not allow comments like it's supposed to, but after posting it, I notice there's an option to comment on it. I double-checked by deleting my post & re-publishing it as a page again, but it still allows for comments, even after logging out as an admin.

Easiest to explain is go to "all pages" and mouseover that page. Choose "quick edit" and then untick the box by "allow comments" and save.

For some themes, the demo images don't follow the theme due to copyright restrictions. You have to put an image there yourself via the theme settings.
